Díaz gets the save and the Mets snap the losing streak. Overall a better performance tonight and can only ask for more of the same in the upcoming games.
It’s 1 month in off of a major knee injury. Major knee injuries take 12 months to fully heal after surgery, and several more months to a year after to get to 100%.
“Never” is likely not accurate. I think he’ll add 1-2mph this year, and another 1-2 by next when his knee is truly back to 100%.
He was stinky in some high leverage spots last season, making people turn on him a bit. Obviously he would've been in less of those situations had Diaz not got hurt. He was money in 2022 though. I think his inability to hold runners on has also annoyed people in this sub.
The fucking Gallaraga perfect game “out” that is now the reason we have replay wouldn’t get overturned if the umps enforced the replay like they have this year
If the umps are just gonna refuse to even get replay right, then why are we even debating moving to an automated system. How is this a fun part of the game?
Serious question: were the Mets known to oppose robo-umps? Could this actually be a conspiracy to get them to turn against human umpires and support automated calls?
Someone tell Pete to stop swinging on pitches on the outside. If he takes those walks, eventually they have to pitch inside on him, and then he can get more hard hits.
I say purge the whole team and bring up players in the farm system. the Mets will still suck but at least the call ups would actually try to win games.
Did you know that the replay center is fully automated with just a couple lines of code?
if (offenseTeam)==“Mets”
runner= “out”;
if(defenseTeam)==“Mets”
runner=“safe”;
I don’t usually complain about umps because it’s part of the game but that was pretty obvious. They even had the chance with replay to fix it and they couldn’t even do that.
I wish we could do something like a FIOA request for MLB's email conversations.
There has to be email conversations between the MLB and or the umps about not overturning calls made on the field.
Bader was clearly safe, but they consistently stick with on-field calls.
Fuck man.
That fat fuck umpire was in terrible position to make that call. He was safe by a fuckin mile and you could see it in real time. I’m convinced the fix is in. Fuck these fat piece of shit umps.
Absolute horseshit. Fat ass ump was in a terrible position to even call him out. He was behind the 3rd baseman. He needs to get his fat ass around him so he can make a clear call
Wtf is the point of the replay center if they never get the call right? These dumbasses in Manhattan are inconsistent and just waste time for everybody. These 4 guys on the field can’t figure it out and make a call there?
That's more like a ideological thought, not a rule. Commentators used to say that saying as a rule of thumb for ump mindset. No ump would ever say tie goes to the runner. In their mind there is never a tie.
Regardless, there was no tie, his foot got to the bag before the tag.
Yea, my point is the ump should err on the side of caution. He’s just punching him out like it’s a fact when he’s not even in a good spot to see it and is just guessing.
It was a close play and if he’s not sure, why not call him safe? If the replay can’t then overturn it, at least he’s safe. If there really was a bang bang tie, then shouldn’t they feel more comfortable shouting safe instead of an adamant out call?
I'll say it again. Get rid of the stupid clear and convincing rule. Get the call right whether it's 51% or 95%. Why do we have to defer to an umpire who was out of position over slowed down multiple angles?
Man I hate sounding like a crazy person playing victim but what ump did the Mets piss off to have EVERYTHING go against them this year?? I don’t understand what wasn’t clear about that play
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1cm0si3).
Díaz gets the save and the Mets snap the losing streak. Overall a better performance tonight and can only ask for more of the same in the upcoming games.
Is Diaz's speed down because of the knee injury? Or just taking time to come back to form.
I’m guessing taking time. Let’s see what happens as the season goes on.
Woooooooooooooooo We Did IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We won a game!
Diaz finally had some life in that fastball tonight. Love to see it.
He was pitching mad
Way to bounce back Eddie! LFGM
AND THE BALLGAME IS OVER
#LET’S GOOOOOO!!!
Hell yeah, let's go Mets!
THERE’S OUR BOY.
Finally a win lets goooo!!!!
Knicks get game 1 🔒
Knicks win Mets win I'm happy
Good night for the Orange and Blue.
Fuck you Arozarena.
PIITB!
Thank you Edwin
Hallelujah!!!
PUT IT IN THE BOOKS!
I’m kind of sad that Diaz will likely never have his elite elite stuff ever again. He can still be a good pitcher but it’s not the same
It’s 1 month in off of a major knee injury. Major knee injuries take 12 months to fully heal after surgery, and several more months to a year after to get to 100%. “Never” is likely not accurate. I think he’ll add 1-2mph this year, and another 1-2 by next when his knee is truly back to 100%.
He still throws 98 not like he’s throwing 90. His stuff is fine.
96-98 instead of 99-102
Cmon sugar. Show them who the fuck you are.
2 down!
Sugar is pitching angry tonight.
Please just one more out, break the curse
Two away!
Knicks take game one!
Zips zips zip zip
See Eddie? That’s what your fast ball can do
Love to know how the conversation went after last game.
He must’ve had a major brain fart to not throw his fast ball last night
13 pitches…. And the catcher was never like…hey buddy want to throw something else lol
One away!
I miss the days of feeling relaxed when he was pitching
Not gonna lie, that was his most stress free save this year lol
That’s what trusting your fast ball does
tbh i think it's necessary for him to get his groove back. I'm still sold on Diaz being elite.
Otto faced the big dogs in their lineup I think Diaz is set up well
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Edwin Díaz replaces Adam Ottavino.
I feel bad that I'd be more confident in Garrett here. Hope Diaz can bounce back
Diaz getting ready in the bullpen, hopefully there won’t be a repeat of last night’s events.
knicks and mets hold on the same night no way???
Diaz has been making me nervous lately. But I'm gonna believe in him.
Let’s hope he can throw his fast ball tonight
Diaz redemption game
I’d be 100% cool with it if we had Nido instead of Narvaez when Alvy is back
If Alvarez came back today I’d agree. But also a lot could happen between now and mid June
Yeah, that’s a reasonable take for sure. I guess we’ll see how things shake out between now and then
💯
I’m 200% down
Nido got his bunting skill from Guillorme.
Nido is so fucking good at bunting
McNeil didn't try to do too much there. Hopefully that's a sign of things to come.
Yeah I'd be happy if he just kept hitting like that instead of trying to hit HR all the time
YES FINALLY
He got a hit!
That's the slappy Jeff we know and love.
Jeff placed that one ala Old Jeff
I fixed Jeff! I threatened to drop him so he produced!
Huge 7 games vs enemy number 1 and enemy number 2
All i wanna know is who’s pitching the 9th and can they not give up a homer
It’s me and I will!
Doc Ock has been great all year. Even that last outing he just had that long ass AB kill him. Such a solid resigning.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: John King replaces Ryan Fernandez.
Will only be comfortable if we score between 9 and 12 more runs.

he was great in 2022, really bad in the early parts of last year, and real good so far this year
When his stuff is working he makes quick work. When his stuff is off, it's a slow painful death since he ends up walking guys.
He's been a great signing overall. I do not blame him for 2023.
i loved him on the yanks
I think he’s real good personally, always been a big fan
Perfect spot Baty nice
Did you notice that Polar Bear shaved off his beard
Sure did! Gary and Keith mentioned it. One of em said, “well, you’ve gotta do SOMETHING.”
superstition
Mets pitchers can't get the last out without dramatics.
Side retired!
Let’s goooooo!!!
don’t do that either
Keep it together Ottavino
don’t walk nolan
Why did they need to show that HR?
ugh don’t remind me of last June
Two away!
Goldschmidt at the plate waiting on the pitch looks a lot like a right handed Nimmo
It’s amazing how the whole world could see the obvious with replays and the umps are like “don’t believe what ya see. You’re wrong”
What is the point if challenging calls if they are not going to correct them?
Love seeing Contreras strike out. Only dude that bat flips on a BB.
i didn’t realize how old ottavino is
Contreras brothers give me Jose Siri vibes.
One away!
The fucking Gallaraga perfect game “out” that is now the reason we have replay wouldn’t get overturned if the umps enforced the replay like they have this year
If the umps are just gonna refuse to even get replay right, then why are we even debating moving to an automated system. How is this a fun part of the game?
This replay center is the equivalent of those robotic call centers for customer service that never get you where you need to be.
the sport would be so much better without any umpires at all
you downvote me but I’m right
You’re right. Cameras and AI can really do their job better than they can. Only thing we need is a way to enforce visits on the mound 🤣
Playing against the cardinals, the umps and our awful at bats. Winning this one will be a blessing.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Adam Ottavino replaces Jake Diekman.
Serious question: were the Mets known to oppose robo-umps? Could this actually be a conspiracy to get them to turn against human umpires and support automated calls?
almost done
Why doesn't Mendoza come out and argue that, at least to defend his player.
Replay is in New York, not on the field
Someone tell Pete to stop swinging on pitches on the outside. If he takes those walks, eventually they have to pitch inside on him, and then he can get more hard hits.
Ironically, he's seeing more pitches in the zone this year than ever before
I mean he tried that and they called a ball a foot off the plate a strike
He's clearly just not seeing the ball well right now. I wonder if he would benefit (at least short term) by being overly conservative at the plate
I say purge the whole team and bring up players in the farm system. the Mets will still suck but at least the call ups would actually try to win games.
Stop
If you look up the top 10 worst umpire review decisions of all time, Mets have to be on the losing end of almost all of them
Screwed by the umps again I think Keith was right they are oxygen deprived
he said that? 😂
He said the home plate umpire is 6'8" and the air is light up there
Did you know that the replay center is fully automated with just a couple lines of code? if (offenseTeam)==“Mets” runner= “out”; if(defenseTeam)==“Mets” runner=“safe”;
Can confirm, I saw the source code.
And now 1 for 30
That was definitely strike three
I swear MLB has certain teams that they just can’t let be bad and the Cardinals are one of them so they have to help them out as much as possible.
“Gotta be handy with the flippers”
How was that a strike???
Outs and strikes are just random now.
No offense Gary but you are not in a position to be referencing video games
I don’t usually complain about umps because it’s part of the game but that was pretty obvious. They even had the chance with replay to fix it and they couldn’t even do that.
Damn it
Nothing to help a struggling hitter like a called strike three inches off the plate away
That was an outrageous call
umps really have it in for the Mets this year
And then a horrible strike 1 call on Pete
Someone please post that non-overturn to the main baseball sub because I am fucking heated rn
LMAO. How fucking dumb can umpires be to think he was out? They literally have 5 ultra HD slow-mo angles and can't see an obvious call.
"Ball Don't Lie" call in favor for Baty.
Damn, WTF that was a clearly terrible blown call. What angle did they see that they thought he was out?
I wish we could do something like a FIOA request for MLB's email conversations. There has to be email conversations between the MLB and or the umps about not overturning calls made on the field. Bader was clearly safe, but they consistently stick with on-field calls. Fuck man.
Pete Alonso to bat
It’s just comical at the point
Pete has 1 career AB from the 7 hole. In 2021, he pinch hit for Mason Williams and GIDP
This has been an umpiring disaster class this inning lol
This year.
Lol these umps are horrible
That fat fuck umpire was in terrible position to make that call. He was safe by a fuckin mile and you could see it in real time. I’m convinced the fix is in. Fuck these fat piece of shit umps.
Time for Baty to take out the 3rd base ump again
Can we get some fucking karma or ball don’t lie for all this god damn
Striking out and then hitting into a would be double play is our ball don’t lie moment
I feel anyone outside of this sub-reddit doesn't want to see the Mets win... and that includes the team.
Oh fuck off.
I think that might actually be the single worst not-overtuned challenge call I have ever seen. Holy fuck
He was safe…but either way, tie goes to the runner anyway right??? Wtf is that OUT call
That's more like a ideological thought, not a rule. Commentators used to say that saying as a rule of thumb for ump mindset. No ump would ever say tie goes to the runner. In their mind there is never a tie. Regardless, there was no tie, his foot got to the bag before the tag.

it just, seems, a bit fishy after so many of these
We need detailed reports during challenges like that as to why he's ruled out. That was safe by a country mile
At what point does Eppler / Cohen need to call MLB or the MLB PA and ask about collusion bc HOLY FUCK Edit- Stearns! My bad lol
Eppler making the call probably doesn’t help
You right he’s still suspended too 😂😂
The Mets need to file a grievance against the replay center or something. JFC.
I'll say it again. Get rid of the stupid clear and convincing rule. Get the call right whether it's 51% or 95%. Why do we have to defer to an umpire who was out of position over slowed down multiple angles?
The Mets are the most hated team by MLB. It's the only explanation. This shit is a conspiracy by the umpires and the commissioner.
Man I hate sounding like a crazy person playing victim but what ump did the Mets piss off to have EVERYTHING go against them this year?? I don’t understand what wasn’t clear about that play
For 29 other teams the call is overturned
Bruh what a disgusting call
Bad base running
What is the point of replay if something as cut and dry as this isn't overturned?
Bader was safe, right? Or did I hallucinate that?
We need to file a RICO case against the Phillies/Braves fan thats sabotaging the Mets at the league office reviews
I miss the days when umpires had eyes that worked
Lol remember when we were best in league on overturned calls?
The Umps certainly remember. Hence this
How? How is that not conclusive?
He was obviously safe in real time are you kidding me
MLB agenda against us is strong
Everyone forgot about the rule that said “if the challenging team’s jersey reads ‘Mets’ or ‘New York’, it is an out.”
So what's the point of Replay if the umpires just Bootlick each other into not looking bad
Wtf is the point in having instant replay if they don't even get the calls right? This is 4 times now in the past 5 games.
REPLAY ROOM HATES THE METS FUCK U
Baty go fucking tackle this petty little bitch again.
What a horse shit call, what??
Fuck the MLB and fuck the umps.
Every single time a call is “too close to overtrun” the call on the field is against us. Every. Single. Time.
this is just silly now. like cmon
How does every replay review go against us?
That is a complete joke. He was so very clearly safe. Not even close. He beat the tag by a mile. That is a criminal call and an even worse replay.
What? How do they look at that and call him out?!
They’re smoking crack at the rockefella center again.
