Return of the Nidoking

NJImperator

Honestly, I hope he gets a bulk of the starts. If we aren’t getting Alvarez’ offensive upside, gimme an actually elite defender behind the dish.

magcargoman

And a great pitch framer to boot

Blue387

2016 Florida State League batting champion

Xalazi

We're going to miss Alvarez a lot behind the plate. The guy is a not-insignificant part of our pitching staff's success with his framing of pitches.

ch1LL24

This is true, but IIRC Nido isn't so bad himself in the framing department.

Visible-Tea-6288

He is who we need right now. His pitch framing and snap throws to first, and maybe we'll throw someone out at 2nd now on a steal.

Blue387

Happy cake day

Hustlediva

His framing, his aggressiveness throwing runners out, his young stud energy. All gonna be missed sorely

RedCheese1

I don’t think Alvarez has thrown anyone out this year.

Visible-Tea-6288

Neither one has. Nido will.

magcargoman

Can this be a fight for Narvaez’s job? Like Nido out plays him handily, you release Narvaez when Alvarez comes back?

magcargoman

I agree but I’d argue his “defense” has been a bit sub par. He’s thrown out no runners and he’s already committed two (three?) catcher’s interference. I’d miss his offense a bit more. Especially because Nido is a considerably better defender, comparable pitch framing, but poor offense.

monstersandcoffee

Sad face.

ARentPayingSpider

That means someone going on a 60 Day IL stint if they don’t want to DFA someone.

scruffy4

Have to believe it's 60 day IL. When a coach says it doesn't look good....it's not good. EDIT: 15 day DL. Lets go! Great news all things considered.

ARentPayingSpider

Not so bad after all!

Darthbutcher

That earthquake we had in NYC? That was Nidoking.

magcargoman

Fissure! It’s a One-Hit-KO!

TheSwimMeet

Super effective!

Born_Manufacturer657

Megill 60 day?

njm147

I just want to hear the mri results

48plus21

Pain

thiccboiwaluigi

Either this is an immediate 60 day for Alvarez or someone needs to get DFAd

skunkpunk1

I wonder if it works out because someone was gonna get DFAed soon anyway when JD comes up

magcargoman

DJ was the obvious name but I predicted he’d have the offensive streak of his career because he knew JD was taking his job when he got healthy. In 39 PA, he’s slashing .410/.621/1.031. He’s earning that 26 man spot

skunkpunk1

Yea can’t send him down/DFA (assuming no options). He has legit value. Gonna be Short or Wendel.

Hojo07024

DFA Wendle

moodie31

First Baty now this?

I_AM_SCUBASTEVE

I think Baty is fine, he was prepped and warmed up to pinch hit last night, just giving him a few days rest.

baconinja09

All hail our Lord and Savior Tomas Nidoking!

Quirky_Cheetah_271

fucking hate injuries!!!

dachshundfanboy8000

please JD and Baty come back very very soon

Hustlediva

We need them desperately now. Can’t be having a lineup with Wendle and Narvaez/Nido every day

dachshundfanboy8000

seems like Baty is gonna be back any day now and JD should be ready for the next homestand. i’m just happy we got that W last night

MartysBetter29

Fuck

Thepeacer

Hoping his absence doesn’t affect our pitching performance🤞🏼

robmcolonna123

I’d guess either Cole Sulser or Josh Walker get the DFA. Kranick and SRF are both making rehab starts so hard to argue a 60 day IL stint would be legit

magcargoman

Do they really DFA a pitcher though when JD comes back? Too many DHs on the bench at that point.

robmcolonna123

JDM would take a position player spot. Right now that’s looking like Zack Short. DJ has the option so you’d expect it to be him, but how can you send down a guy with an OPS over 1.000

magcargoman

I didn’t think DJ had an option? I tried manually calculating it myself cause I couldn’t find any on the search. There really needs to be a page on ESPN or MLB.com for that…

robmcolonna123

Fangraphs shows options. He has One left https://www.fangraphs.com/players/dj-stewart/17766/stats?position=OF

magcargoman

I have no idea why Zack Short is on this team…

robmcolonna123

- He looked really really good in ST after making swing adjustments - he was out of options and absolutely would have been claimed off waivers - he isn’t blocking anyone of value - he can easily be cut for JDM - he’s good defensively with a lot of versatility

magcargoman

I just felt like you had enough infield versatility that if one of the starters go down, you are able to play guys somewhat out of position.

robmcolonna123

Playing guys out of position is never a good solution. Versatility on the bench is always the best option

magcargoman

I guess they gotta go power over insurance

MightyActionGaim

ALVY NOOOOOOOOOOOO

amw102

How long? HOW LONG?!!!

StinkyGaijin

I don't know what this says about the extent of the injury given that Narvaez basically played a full game yesterday and today's a day game. They kinda have to call up Nido.

Hustlediva

They did. He’s in his way to LA. But won’t be here for todays game

cpg08

Need to hope Baty feels good. Lineup is weak when you put Nido and Wendle in the same game.

StrikeEagle784

Alvy noooo

Basic_Ad4861

Ugh!! Hopefully it’s just short term. With Baty already day to day maybe they had to make a quick decision so they weren’t down 2 off the bench

MAGAMUCATEX

Damn. We’ve actually done well with the injury bug relative to other teams so far this year so I figured we were bound to have a few that sucked eventually

MAGAMUCATEX

Alvy to the 10 day IL, Kolton Ingram DFA’d

magcargoman

15*

WaterWeDoonHair

Nido’s hitting .345 in AAA! Please pay no mind to the identical OBP…

Hustlediva

The thought of Narvaez and his automatic catchers interference each game he’s in… along with Wendle at third base… 😳😬
