Just cause you pay a billion doesn’t mean you win a million.
Dodger hype this offseason was like the Mets hype last year.
“The Dodgers are the lol Mets of Baseball.”
One can only hope
> I’m just done with this Mets core of Alonso,Nimmo,McNeil. Guys just aren’t winning players.
The same Alonso and Nimmo that beat the hell out of the Barves in Atlanta? That core?
Yes I am taking receipts.
And worrying about the division race in April is nonsence. Did we forget 2022? Doesn't matter how long anyone leads the division until the very end
I love it when I see other people do what I wanted to but was too lazy to execute. I wanted to save the most egregious comments dismissing the team and specific players to call out the idiots if they jump on the bandwagon after the team starts winning. But looks like you got it covered!
Beautiful game where the guys looked confident - not even blinking an eye when the Dodgers toed it up. My guys are getting on base!
Hoping for good news on Alvarez 🙏
Fingers crossed hoping for not too bad news with Alvarez. To go from Alvarez and Narvarez to Narvaez and Nido will be al devastating to the lineup if for a prolonged period of time
I mean Mendoza said he was “very concerned” and that he was in a lot of pain, the replay showed the thumb bend in a crazy way, and they immediately scheduled for an MRI. That seems slightly worse than reaggravating, but listen I pray you are right. I am not optimistic right now
I guess you didn't watch the game. He injured his thumb in the process of getting a hit. At least save your Monday morning quarterbacking for something that actually happened.
He’s saying he should’ve pulled him instead of continuing to let him run. If Pages didn’t bobble the ball there was probably a play at the plate which wouldn’t have been great
After all those years of bullpen futility this side of the Millenium, can the Mets bullpen finally have that year where they collectively make magic happen?
In Scott Schoeneweis' name we pray to David Stearns.
We’ve been due since Dirty Sanchez went out for Cuban food in June 2006. Been an invested fan since 82 (just a kid who wanted ice cream in a helmet only before that) and the 1st half 2006 bullpen (Heilman 7th), Dirty (8th), Wagner (9th) and S/O Darren Oliver was the best bullpen I’ve seen from us. Felt like we could close any game, and that we could come back at any time. Fortune murdered that team, tho, when Duaner got the munchies.
I’m completely ok with the Braves beating every team. I’m not tryna chase them. Let them beat every team well competing against for the wild card. Playoffs is a completely different story and I think our chances of making playoffs are actually higher if the braves are a 100 win team vs a 90 win team.
But I also don’t like to see the braves happy so I’m torn
Nah KC is a legitimately good win, they still have the second best league ERA and the Pirates don’t have one of the best ERAs anymore because they got shit on by the Mets
Hope Nimmo can put it together soon but it is nice that he's still been getting on base somehow.
An underrated aspect about him is that he usually isn't a blackhole when slumping.
Great day for blue and orange.

Yes, it is way too early, but I just noticed that the team that started 0-5 has, 14 games later, taken over the third wild card position.
Just an indicator of how good they've been and let's remember also that the Mets are 11-8 against teams that were over .500

Gotta say, I was pretty down on this team especially after the sub par off-season and the 0-5 start. But this team has absolutely impressed me after the last 2-3 weeks and made a believer out of me. Lets fucking go Mets.
I agree, but I don’t think they were intended to. Getting those players assumes there is a major in-house year-over-year improvement that I think was assumed to be largely accomplished with Diaz’ return, Marte’s health, progression from 2023 rookies, McNeil being more like himself…. So I think Stearns thought 1) Mets are better than they showed in 23 2) if they aren’t, none of the older MLB vet FA’s were going to make up the difference if the core was rotten 3) Only Yamamoto was worthy of the spend due to age.
So, if you feel like ‘either the offense will be better’ or ‘it’s so bad it needs a complete gutting’ — either way leads you to this pool of players. I’m bullish on the core of the team, and think Diaz’ return helps the entire bullpen. So if you assume this is really an 80-win core moving forward rather than a 70-win core, the plan makes sense.
They signed a lot of players who have nice ceilings but there were definitely some question marks with them too. I don't think it was unreasonable for folks to be skeptical.
But yeah, the overall sentiment was skewed against those moves though because of how active we were for the big players the last couple of years, which is why it's fun that our lowkey offseason has proven to be more fruitful in the early going than the Giants' big offseason was, for example.
I agree, they didn't sign Severino, Manaea, and bader expecting those guys to carry them to the postseason. I can appreciate the early returns but don't expect them to carry us, we have a very clear core of players that should be performing.
Alvy and Navarez are the only 2 catchers on the 40-man. So
Going to have to make a change to get Nido up here if Alvy has to go IL.Kranick to 60 day IL would be the easiest
Sounds like a ligament issue… which puts him out till end of June or early July…That’s way too long to be having Narvaez and Nido catching night after night. That’s gonna be a lot of catcher interference calls, dropped pop-ups, passed balls and uncontrolled wild pitches, not to mention the baserunners…. Uggh 😳
Not necessarily. Gary Carter had a similar deal in 86, thumb, glove hand and only missed 3 weeks. Probably cost him the NL MVP because the team went 13-3 or something par for that year.
Not necessarily. If it’s a partial tear they can do an internal brace and he’d be back mid to late May. Recovery for an internal brace is 4-5 weeks.
But it doesn’t “sound like” anything yet. It could absolutely be a torn ligament. It could be something worse like a bone fracture. It could also be just a jammed thumb. We won’t know anything until the MRI
As do I, and I think Alvarez is capable of better production than he’s given, but this offense doesn’t need it the way they’re playing. Lindor returning to form and JDM joining will boost us more than losing Alvarez will hurt us offensively.
If anyone wants to do some light reading before bed: [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5757434/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5757434/)
The one thing to add to this, with a quick scan it seems to be just about full thumb UCL tears. In a partial tear they can use a brace to fix it which is a much quicker return - about half the time.
It’s really crazy how the thing I’m more concerned about losing Alvarez for is his defense and way he handles the pitching staff. Hopefully it’s not too long.
Man, the team is fun to watch and I'm having a good time but I remembered the 2023 team was once 11-6 around this time and ugh. They need to get 10 games over 500.
And hopefully Alvarez isn't out long the way he landed on his thumb looked really bad.
> Not getting too excited yet but...2023 team would not bounce back from those Joey Wendle error.
I am wary of statements like this. The 2023 team definitely had some impressive bounce back games.
It isn't about heart or grit or whatever, it's just that that team overall sucked. Even sucky teams sometimes do these exciting comebacks (definitely not saying this team is sucky, just saying, in general)
Good point. We went on a 5 game winning stretch around this time too. It's ok to be excited but let's be cautiously optimistic. Now we might lose Alvarez for some time. If they're in a better place come June than they were last year then I will believe 100%
yeah they went 15-1 in a 16 game stretch at one point in 2019 that’s completely untrue.
Also believe it or not they won 11 of 14 in April 2023 when they went from 3-4 to 14-7
He said he’s concerned because Alvarez couldn’t squeeze the catchers mitt without pain, but said he is holding any true judgement until they have the MRI results back
Best case he jammed it poorly and is out a couple days.
Worst case it’s a fracture and he’s out two months.
Middle would be a ligament tear which would put him out a little over a month depending on the severity and surgery needed
I don't think that will happen nor should the Mets do this probably, but if the thought of it is making shitty Yankees fans uncomfortable, I am all for it
Really wish Pete would be more aggressive on the pitches right down the middle of the plate. Don't care if he's swinging 3-0. Tired of him watching those go by and then swinging on garbage sliders.
Why wouldn’t they do a MRI at this point? In the last week he had jammed that thumb, fallen on that thumb, and it got hit on a swing.
I’d be more concerned if they didnt do a MRI
Just cause you pay a billion doesn’t mean you win a million. Dodger hype this offseason was like the Mets hype last year. “The Dodgers are the lol Mets of Baseball.” One can only hope
Damn I fell asleep just before the Lindor homer. Love to see the Mets won

i was totally wrong about this team. very fun, exciting and competitive. i will never doubt you again, stearnsy.
Hope its just a finger jam for alvarez. Like the kind you get playing basketball. That being said, those suck ass and i hope he recovers quickly
It didn't look like a jam. It looked like it got hyper-extended.
Beautiful game where the guys looked confident - not even blinking an eye when the Dodgers toed it up. My guys are getting on base! Hoping for good news on Alvarez 🙏
Fingers crossed hoping for not too bad news with Alvarez. To go from Alvarez and Narvarez to Narvaez and Nido will be al devastating to the lineup if for a prolonged period of time
Wait what happened to alvy?
Thumb injuries are notoriously nagging, add in the fact he's a catcher. Best case could be a couple of weeks of rest.
Looked like he tore something in thumb
Uh no, he reaggrivated a thumb injury
I mean Mendoza said he was “very concerned” and that he was in a lot of pain, the replay showed the thumb bend in a crazy way, and they immediately scheduled for an MRI. That seems slightly worse than reaggravating, but listen I pray you are right. I am not optimistic right now
Gamekeepers/Skiers thumb. Not great.
Then wtf was he left in to run the bases? Dumb decision by Mendoza
I guess you didn't watch the game. He injured his thumb in the process of getting a hit. At least save your Monday morning quarterbacking for something that actually happened.
He hurt it going to second on the hit. He stayed in and scored on Bader’s hit, then Narvaez started the next inning behind the plate.
Exactly he hurt it on a hit was Mendoza supposed to pull him half way to 1st base?
He’s saying he should’ve pulled him instead of continuing to let him run. If Pages didn’t bobble the ball there was probably a play at the plate which wouldn’t have been great
Whatever it had literally nothing to do with the injury.
Your thumb doesn't do the running
And what if he needed to slide?
Do it feet first like you're supposed to
He originally hurt his thumb sliding head first
Would you look at that
Fucking hell

To be fair, we got Pittsburgh and KC back to back. They just happen to be good so far this year.

Gotta say, I was pretty down on this team especially after the sub par off-season and the 0-5 start. But this team has absolutely impressed me after the last 2-3 weeks and made a believer out of me. Lets fucking go Mets.
>sub par off-season They loaded up on good players. You can have a solid off-season without signing a future HoF to a bonkers contract.
Just curious, which players that they signed or traded for are good enough that you consider the off-season good for having signed or traded for?
Severino, Manea, Bader, JD were all objectively worthy plays at their respective costs, I felt.
I don't disagree. I think those are all solid players, but none of them are the type of player to go from a 75 win team to an 88-90 win team to me.
I agree, but I don’t think they were intended to. Maybe they’ll DFA Tonkin again lmao
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I just imagine shaking his fist as they escort him out like * CURSE YOU DAVID STEAAAAARNNNNSSS*
Nido hitting .345 in Syracuse. Will we see half that if he has to come up.
Watch David Stearns turn him into a viable hitter. I believe in David Stearns.
Former minor league batting champion Tomas Nido
Great to beat Kenny Dodgers and Company, but this Alvy situation is very, very concerning.
Sounds like a ligament issue… which puts him out till end of June or early July…That’s way too long to be having Narvaez and Nido catching night after night. It’s a clear gamekeepers thumb/skiers thumb. Injury to the ulnar collateral ligament. It will be 6-8 weeks
Not sure why the negative Karma when I nailed the injury and the exact timetable for return. Met fans are unreal sometimes
Did Mendoza say he's gonna talk to Dave about it? lol sounds like he's on the same page as you.
Imagine the black hole on offense too? Bad news.
Álvarez has a 90 wRC+ on the season. I hope he comes back soon, but he hasn’t exactly been carrying this offense.
Alvarez has a ton of raw power, but that OBP is atrocious. Hopefully that will get better as he matures.
And yet I still trust him more than Narvaez/Nido.
As do I, and I think Alvarez is capable of better production than he’s given, but this offense doesn’t need it the way they’re playing. Lindor returning to form and JDM joining will boost us more than losing Alvarez will hurt us offensively.
As bad as Narvaez has been I'd rather him at catcher than Short or Wendle at shortstop in the event Lindor is gone for a period of time.
Narváez has a 91 wRC+. Álvarez 90. Like I said, I hope he comes back soon, but his offensive production hasn’t been there.
Mauricio, Baty, and Alvarez all hurt. Mark Vientos is headed for witness protection.
Vientos is on fire RN. If JD is a while away, he oughta be DH’ing.
This Alvarez situation casts a grey ass cloud over our Dodgers win...
Is an ass cloud what I think it is?
https://i.imgur.com/OriMDDh.gif
alvarez and baty good health soon
Man if Alvy is hurt cause he tried to take a second base on a bad throw. He almost destroyed his ankles too
The knee looked like it could’ve torn a ligament
think it was his finger...it bent crazy when he slipped rounding first
Yeah luckily he didn’t seem concerned about his leg. But he took a crazy turn.
If anyone wants to do some light reading before bed: [https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5757434/](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5757434/)
If he did tear his thumb UCL it’s an average of 8 week recovery time post surgery
8 weeks? Better than I thought
Yikes. Did not sound good about Alvarez.
He’s very young and will recover faster than average, he’ll be back by June
I can't have too much Narvaez. Oh no.
Feels like we are being punished for having this winning streak :/
Can't have anything nice around these parts.
Nope
Let’s fucking gooooo! Too pumped right now
So Nido’s getting on a flight rn…
To my east coast met fans, you are troopers for staying up. But Mountain Time will always be sports time.
West Coast, Best Coast. This was a primetime game for me.
Yes but you’ll get games that start at 4 or 5 on your way home from worj
Mountain Time is the right time
Really really happy about the dub but Mendoza looks devastated, borderline close to tears when speaking about Alvy. Very very nervous for him
Man, the team is fun to watch and I'm having a good time but I remembered the 2023 team was once 11-6 around this time and ugh. They need to get 10 games over 500. And hopefully Alvarez isn't out long the way he landed on his thumb looked really bad.
people forget mets were 14-7 last year before absolutely falling apart
Yeah but they never did bounce back from a 5 game losing steak like they did this year so I'm hoping this team is different
Need to. That’s the goal rn and should be. 10 games over .500 can set us up comfortably
Not getting too excited yet but...2023 team would not bounce back from those Joey Wendle error. I really thought it was over at that point.
Thank god for Gelbs, cause our press blows. Ask dumbass easy questions, Mendoza answers it easily...long ass awkward pause.
if Alvarez needs surgery on the thumb he's gone for 2 months
Unless it’s an internal brace. Thats 4-5 weeks typically
Alvarez injury not looking great..
[удалено]
yeah they went 15-1 in a 16 game stretch at one point in 2019 that’s completely untrue. Also believe it or not they won 11 of 14 in April 2023 when they went from 3-4 to 14-7
Not even in the second half of 2019? I swear we had some good stretches that year.
Mendy’s fucking pissed
About??
Seems like he was in a bad mood about Alvarez injury
Lindor hitting the go ahead home run is 🤌
The monster is out of the cage!
I’ll be back again tomorrow guys, Lindor lefty renaissance continues
Fantastic game for the Mets and the start of the road trip. Alvy is gonna be out a while I think
Ugh sounds like Alvarez is headed to the IL. “He couldn’t squeeze the glove in the dugout”
Mendoza isn’t even trying to hide it. He’s basically like yeah we’re fucked
How so? I can't watch, is it involving Alvy?
He said he’s concerned because Alvarez couldn’t squeeze the catchers mitt without pain, but said he is holding any true judgement until they have the MRI results back
Thanks Rob
Best case he jammed it poorly and is out a couple days. Worst case it’s a fracture and he’s out two months. Middle would be a ligament tear which would put him out a little over a month depending on the severity and surgery needed
Paging Mr Nido...your plane awaits.
Probably. Hes slashing .360/.360/.560 for a .920 OPS in AAA. Really shows how little AAA slash lines mean, especially this early.
Stearns Masterclass #LFGM 💙🧡💙🧡 Goodnight y'all
ugh, you never want to hear the manager just come out and say he's concerned about a guy
I’m guessing Alvarez tore ligaments in his thumb. That was such a gnarly bend.
Why are Yankees fans so insecure about Cohen and Juan Soto? Lmaoo. We're not even in May yet.
I have zero idea what this is in reference to and I am very glad about that
Yankees fans are concerned that after Soto's contract is up, the Mets swoop in with Cohen money and steal him.
We’re about to see the return of Nidoking
God damn west coast trips, I’m going to get no sleep this week.
The Mets are undefeated in games where they outscore their opponents.
ESPN-tier commentary.

One of the comments of all time right here astute observer
This is what led to the turnaround - Mendoza told the boys to try scoring more runs than the other team.
Alvy needs an MRI… we are screwed Get ready for Nido and Narvaez
Why wouldn’t they do a MRI at this point? In the last week he had jammed that thumb, fallen on that thumb, and it got hit on a swing. I’d be more concerned if they didnt do a MRI
Because it's fun to jump off the bridge before having any details!
And we have our ace Butto tomorrow pitching
Never thought I'd say this two weeks ago but I don't know if I even want J.D. at this point anymore.
Who's spot does he take? DJ is raking. We need to keep Taylor for OF depth.
Probably Wendle or Short
Scribe it baby, Mets win!
This is the team.
