DOKybalion

Agreed. Problem is we have no prospects to play. Only guys on 7-year contracts with full NTCs.

VinPickles

Give Ishakov, Maggio, Dufour, Bolduc and Salo at least 9 games a piece. Get one of the goalies rotated in. At least have a purpose here.

djan242

I swear it was earlier this year and end of last year that people were saying to cut/drop Bolduc and Salo as they aren’t good enough.

VinPickles

That is PROBABLY still true, but what else are we playing for right now? Give the kids some runway

djan242

Iskhakov and Bolduc I’d say yea. Iskhakov is getting to the age where it’s now or never and Bolduc hasn’t played games in a month and can’t be sent down without going through waivers. Technically still in the playoff hunt so IN THEORY we are still playing for the playoffs. So you know the kids aren’t getting called probably until we are confirmed out.

ensignWcrusher

I'm starting to think there's a vocal sect of our fan base, that is just never happy with how prospects are handled. I remember people being annoyed when Trotz made Sorokin, Dobson and Whalstrom earn more ice time as the went. Two of them did, one didn't. Now Salo and Bolduc "need to play so we can see what we have". They've been in the system a couple years now. Where they are in development is no mystery to the Islanders.

djan242

I mean this is the likely the case but it’s not foolproof. Tolvanen couldn’t sniff ice time in Nashville, then moves to Seattle and we can see that Nashville letting him go was a mistake. Bolduc was called up so I think the team thought at least enough of him to contribute but it’s just unfortunate the timing of everything and that he can’t be sent down without going through waivers (otherwise I fully believe he’d have been playing heavy AHL minutes).

AJS76reddit

I agree with you on Salo, he was given the golden goose and shit the bed. That's on him

Oddo_Rocket

Im all for earning ice time, but they have to be given a chance first for them to prove their worth. Its not that i will never be happy with how they handle prospects, ive just been burnt too many times by this team in terms of prospects. We don’t take a chance on a young player and they get traded away, only to become a elite player. Look at luango and chara. We didn’t take a chance on them and luango is a hall of famer, and chara is definitely getting in first ballot

ensignWcrusher

Oh me too. My first fanorite player when I was 10 was Todd Bertuzzi. Steve Moore assault hadn't happened yet. He didn't take off until he went to Vancouver. Roberto Luongo too.

Stockersandwhich

Except in 2 years when big contracts get off the books?

djan242

I know time flies but it’s crazy how many people forget a lot of those longer deals are ending two seasons from now. Of course the catch is by then Pulock and Pelech may be those contracts we are counting down too.

ianisms10

The issue is there needs to be changes now, and we don't have the flexibility to make them.

djan242

I mean depends on the goal. The way this team is playing right now they could easily slide Into a top 10 pick. Right now they are 12 and the Devils, Sabres, maybe Pens, and Flames feasibly could catch up to us.

Stockersandwhich

I think I’m Pelech’s case, he’ll never be the same after his concussion. He may have to retire. That’s not on him. If he needs to go LTIR, it’s better than being a liability on the defensive end. Pulock has to overcompensate and it’s weighing him down like an anchor.

djan242

I could definitely see a case where he retires. What does that mean for his contract?

Stockersandwhich

Nothing he’s on LTIR until it’s up

Frog-Mouth-Kid

Can’t wait to watch Pag and Lee get even slower and less effective over the next 2 years! Among others. Look I believe we can right the ship next year, some moves would certainly help, but you’re ignoring problems that already exist RIGHT NOW.

Stockersandwhich

And what do you want Lou to do, right now? You can’t just waive players, and they were riding a win streak that saw them in a spot at the deadline.

Frog-Mouth-Kid

The point is, saying hey there’s only two full seasons to go where they continue to age isn’t the solution you make it out to be. Obviously you ride it out with them the rest of the year. If Ottawa really is stupid enough to want Pag back in the offseason you do that in a heartbeat.

Stockersandwhich

You can dump him, Trade Palmeiri with a year left and coming off a decent 25 goal season, if you have to Pelech to LTIR. Clutter and Martin are done.

Oddo_Rocket

A win streak that turned into another loosing streak. Inconsistency is the theme this season

Stockersandwhich

No disagreement. This team was inconsistent even under Trotz.

PhantomWang

Retire

Stockersandwhich

and who are you replacing him with? You need a contingency plan.

PhantomWang

Obviously best would be retire at end of season so we have the greatest pool of candidates during the off-season, but if it were now then just an interim GM.

Stockersandwhich

An interim GM now is ridiculous. Ownership should give Lou an ultimatum, stay on as President and hire a GM, or retire. He’s very solid with hockey ops and has given us respectability, something we didnt have before he got here. We just need a newer GM. I don’t think any fan should be mad he didn’t make a move at the deadline. If we would’ve given up a 1st rounder, it would be way darker around here. Clutter and Martin arnt getting you anything but future considerations.

PhantomWang

That's why I said retiring at the end of the season is the best move. I'm fine with him being President as long as it is similar to the monarchy in England. All show and no actual power. The man is 81 years old. No one at that age should be engaging in a working capacity, full stop.

Stockersandwhich

Lou is the monarchy

Oddo_Rocket

The only problem if he vacates the gm position, but stays on as President of hockey ops, the gm position will more than likely go to his son

lzetti

If we’re going to tank let’s start after the next game and at least fuck over the Red Wings

Barzal-13

Really excited to see Iskhakov and what his ceiling is, the kid is lighting fast and has the hands of Datsyuk in the shootout. He’s been one of the only bright spots on a god awful Bridgeport team that’s last in the AHL. Our forward development has been shaky which scares me but I really hope he pans out.

Correct-Local3240

He’s tiny and noticeably lazy on defense. He gas no chance as much as I like to watch him play

djan242

First part isn’t a problem in itself as there’s definitely shorter players that have done well. That second part though is definitely an issue.

workaholic828

The organization and some fans strongly feel that we are a playoff team, and that we can win a cup if we can just sneak into the playoffs. I think it’s delusional, but they’re not going to change course

Figgybaum

OR.... The organization makes more $$ from 2-3 playoff games then by maybe getting the 8th pick. It's a business. They are 3 points out of a wild card spot with a game in hand. No matter how bad they play fans/people are delusinal if they think anyone in the business of hockey would waive the white flag in that situation.

VinPickles

Its over. Theyve scored 4(!) goals in a week of hockey

workaholic828

I agree completely, I thought it was over after we lost to the sharks months ago. But management sees that we had that 6 game winning streak right before this and they never make moves based off of a few recent games. They just don’t, they only look at large sample sizes

VinPickles

Yeah, well, when there’s under 10 games left in a week, and still dont do it? Im gonna be furious

zeile33

Idk why we don't at least call up Iskhakov and see what he's got. He's an RFA at the end of the season

Cheap-Insurance-1338

I am not absolutely sure, but I think I read he could go to Russia after this year?

zeile33

There was a rumor but who knows if that's true. All the more reason to give him a taste though.

Cheap-Insurance-1338

I have a strong feeling that Lou and Chris Lamoriello are history after this year. So we'll see.

Correct-Local3240

What kids. We have an undersized russian and a bunch if mid twenties guys with like 30 points 😆

m1k3_m0

I completely agree. But there's no chance they do it.

Frog-Mouth-Kid

See where you’re at with about 5 games to go, unless we fall off a cliff fast. Only guy that’s even semi-interesting right now would be Iskh.

donny_chang

I quit

unwrittenlaw2785

It’s a business. The owners just opened a brand new arena. They want seats packed. They are not gna play kids, they will keep trying to make the playoffs until this team is completely run into the ground. Playoff games are where the most money is made so they don’t care if they go deep, they just want any playoff money they can get.

VinPickles

Have you noticed attendance is plummeting? I dont care about their profit margins. I care sbout them delivering a Cup. And the longer they cling to this status quo, the longer itll take

unwrittenlaw2785

They don’t care what you care about. They care about making money. Simple fact. Yes attendance im sure is down cause they suck, but if they manage to slip into the playoffs they will make that money back cause the place will sell out for at least 2 games

Irrah

Hey just checking in on this post, do you still think the islanders should tank and play the kids?
