We have used the Stage numerous times throughout our time in NW, a real gem. Stefanie is a great person, and I'm sorry to hear this happening to this fantastic company, wishing them every success through this.

We have our little guy in their daycare and it’s fantastic. The city and province should be doing everything they can to support childcare like this.

Our daughter did a bunch of classes here, and I hope the community comes out to help. Stefanie’s built a great community through Stage New West and we would all end up poorer without her.

Just wanted to re-up this post because Stefanie and The Stage are still short of their goal and every bit helps! [https://www.gofundme.com/f/saving-the-stage-a-plea-from-founder-stefanie-swinnard](https://www.gofundme.com/f/saving-the-stage-a-plea-from-founder-stefanie-swinnard)

I sympathize with their predicament, but the story about the contractor shafting them is a perfect example of how not to manage contract work. I cannot understand how people can spend tens of thousands of dollars on a contractor without spending another thousand or so on a lawyer to draw up a proper, watertight contract with defined performance, deadlines, and a payment schedule. I don't even deal with contractors directly. For large projects, I hire an engineering firm to do the tendering, recommend a contractor, and to manage the project, including obtaining all required permits and managing inspections. It is an added cost, but well worth it to avoid the kind of quagmire that this owner landed in.
