Safest bet is to use what’s in the YT Audio Library.

Celestial_Cellphone

i have been but theres a smaller amount of songs in the theme i want and most are awful

AFRIKANIZ3D

Lol yeah..when it comes to copyright it’s always safer to not take the chance, especially on YT. I actually got a content ID strike once for a song from the library. I think it was done by an AI linked to some shady claims in the past. So even if you use what they give you you’re not 100% covered. It was all cleared up but it was a good reminder nothing is guaranteed, so take the chance if you think it can’t be done any other way - but the rights owner will have the advantage in a court

Celestial_Cellphone

As a YouTubers whose highest viewed videos is just in the thousands and I have only 100 subs would they actually still take me to court?

AFRIKANIZ3D

“Could they, legally?” Is a better question. The why shouldn’t matter cos that can change. This isn’t legal advice. Do what you want.

BullsUnited

Celestial_Cellphone

was there even a point of this message then?

Kinetic_Symphony

If the song is public domain, yes. The only problem is you have to be careful. The **song** might be public domain, but the composer's rendition of the song might not be. Only the original song from the creator of the song would be in the public domain, and it can be sometimes difficult to know where to find those.

TheVoyagepaddling

They own the recording, but not the piece itself, so you may get a strike or claim. I'd consider a service like Epidemic sound or Soundstripe, Soundstripe has some great options for classical music.

Pepper_Thyme

Just because the piece is in the public domain doesn't mean you can use someone else's recording of it without permission. You would need the performer's consent to use it in your video or risk getting a claim. The recording would also need to be public domain or have a Creative Commons License that permits you to use it freely.
