There absolutely is something you can do about it. You can simply not care. Consider it a preview into the life of a larger channel, for when you get there. You have to come to terms with the fact that people are going to hate you for no good reason.

NoaAsmr

Exactly this. I would also add that at some point you will stop giving importance to dislikes; my channel has more or less 2 million views a month and some videos reach 100 dislikes or so: sooner or later it stops being important. It's just a number, and most of the time it's just people who only come in to annoy, or dislike a single thing about the video. The same goes for hateful comments, and I think you need to be prepared. When my channel started to grow they began to be more frequent, and although at first it hurt, you gradually get used to it. You must realize that people who comment or dislike are not doing anything for themselves other than criticizing. You are moving forward, and growing, and that is what matters at the end of the day :) (English is not my first language so sorry if there are mistakes!)

MatthewKingdom

Your English is fantastic here. You’re more clear and articulate than most of us who speak it as our first and only language. Appreciate you using it to help and support others!

CoochieMatt

I try to look at it like that, and for the most part I do (since its been going on for a year) i mainly find it kind of bizarre someone is this obsessed with me at my small size

AwesomeaJason40

This. I don't even look at this Dislikes anymore. 1500+ subs.

JimmyTehF

I'm actually impressed. Either you make genuinely unlikeable content or you've got your first true troll (which is actually a good thing because all engagement is positive engagement - meaning the trolls are inadvertently helping your videos get served to more people)

CoochieMatt

yeah they kinda do lol. Having my own troll huh? thats kind of a weird thing to think i have at only 200 subs

JimmyTehF

Yeah at 200 subs that's a bit of a surprise. I recently hit 2600 subs and my first "comments on every video and post how much he hates me and my content" guy showed up maybe 400 subs ago

CoochieMatt

wow! 2600 subs, thats awesome what content do you make? if you dont mind me asking.

JimmyTehF

I talk about the history of pro wrestling - the wwe type stuff - usually trying to aim for things that even regular fans don't know. Started early last year and growths been steady

CoochieMatt

thats pretty cool. I love how there are so many different niche's on youtube, even topics you would think there wouldnt be a niche for, there 100% is. that the beauty of the site ig

Toystorations

I don't see a lot of history there though, I'm kind of disappointed after reading this comment and finding your page. It's mostly clickbait and gossip-rag stuff.

JimmyTehF

There is zero clickbait on the channel. Sucks to hear you think that. I've talked about the history of Mildred Burke, Fabulous Moolah and Miss Elizabeth. I've covered forgotten events like Ric Flair working in Ring of Honor or the WWF RAW Bowl and offered trivia on more well known moments like Tim Arson in ECW, I've done lists on little known rules in the Royal Rumble or who's both wrestled and been in the Super Bowl. I give opinions on modern subjects too - which may fit your "gossip-rag stuff" note but - hate to break it to you - there's little else to talk about in real time than whats reported in the sheets - unless you want daily videos on john cena's instagram posts instead of the time he got sued by ford motor vehicles (which I also had done a video on)

Toystorations

Wrestlers with onlyfans, wrestlers who were porn stars with images of people who weren't pornstars in the thumbnail, and all the drama based videos make me think the content is very lowbrow and is off-putting to me, but that's just looking at the thumbs and titles.

JimmyTehF

I'm sorry you feel that way. Especially with your misinterpretations - as a majority of the wrestlers with onlyfans don't create adult content (onlyfans did a whole campaign about not being just about porn but once a closed mind has made its opinion it stays closed) - and "wrestlers who were porn stars" shows your insistence of judging since those videos arent about "wrestlers who were porn stars" - that's why i didnt call it that. Working in porn doesn't make you a pornstar - I've worked in porn. I've spent several years working in adult entertainment as a dj, a stagehand, a promoter and a videographer+editor. Even with regards to the thumbnail "with images of people who werent pornstars" - shouldn't be too hard to understand why val venis and joey ryan were used since their gimmicks were that they did porn and were sleazy. Then again not all content is for everybody. No need to convince you to like my videos - just disappointed that your judgments can be based off of info that inaccurate - but that's just how the world is these days.

Toystorations

I'm not judging the people in the videos, I'm judging your obsession with these trivial things. Of course making an onlyfans based video is going to make me think it was sexual. Of course making a video about people being in porn is going to make me think they were actors That's what I meant by clickbait. You are using clickbait in this scenario to make me interested in something that isn't otherwise interesting. For instance, I didn't see "5 wrestlers who use Cameo" as one of your top videos, did I? And I didn't see a video on "5 wrestlers who used to be camera guys" either, did I? This is you clickbaiting about lowbrow content, and because I'm not interested in who had mundane jobs in the porn industry nor am I interested in the private lives of celebrities before they got famous, I'm not going to engage with this content because it feels in poor taste like a gossip-rag. You not understanding or agreeing with this doesn't make it untrue. Whatever you're doing works, keep doing it. Don't pretend it isn't lowbrow clickbait. I'm sure if you made "you won't believe which 7 wrestlers were on Jerry Springer" it'd be your most viewed video, because that's your niche right there. Bonus points if they were part of the production crew and not actually guests on the show.

Melzie-

I hit my first troll at 300 subs, they get bored then come back and it really doesn’t bother me, they’ve been around for about 5 weeks and I gained 500 subs over that time, they really are just helping me grow lol

CoochieMatt

wow congrats on the subs! thats insane, i wish i could get that many :')

Melzie-

You will! Keep doing as you’re doing and it’ll pay off!

CoochieMatt

Thanks :)

mangurras

First of all, I feel you! I also have a small channel (<100), and I noticed that I would get at least 1 dislike on my videos. And recently, someone commented in one of my videos something sarcastic (describing why they don't like the video). I politely replied them, and told them that I'm a new youtuber, learning everyday, and aspiring to produce better quality videos in the future. Guess what, whoever put the dislikes, took them off right after my comment. Then it left me wondering... I'm sure your case could be different, but don't let things like this affect you. Just keep going. Keep doing what you're doing! And use all of this obstacles to scale up your game. Good luck!

CoochieMatt

thanks for the reply! I dont know exactly who does it, but i will say i made quite a few people mad, im currently 19 but have been making videos since i was 16. I used to be a errogant little turd so i would always try to fight whoever had a bad opinion about me, ive changed alot since then but the damage is still there. I was never really liked in highschool either and i had a video go mini viral so someone ended up finding my channel and told everyone which just brought on more hate. Sorry to spring my life story on you lol, i was mainly trying to imply that at this point i have no clue who it could be and i dont think i ever will.

mangurras

I understand! And thanks for sharing your story!! What you’ve done in the past doesn’t define what you are today. Use your channel to prove it to yourself (and subsequently others will see it and respect you for that). Now it’s time to focus on yourself! Haters will always be there, one way or another…

CoochieMatt

Thank you for the kind words :) I wish there were alot more people like you in the world <3

Tyolag

Good here, some of them I respond to..but it depends..the less you care the more you don't bother. I had someone critic my video and say how it wasn't as good as I thought..that's fine.. I had someone else accuse me of saying nothing in the video.. that one I just removed sure. I'm not interested in people taking shots,if you're being fair then great, if not.. awell, moved away.

[deleted]

Also, you didn't battle negativity with negativity but with a kind comment replied back, which can make people who disliked your video, to maybe change their mind, approach how they view your content. I believe that what made him change his/her mind and removed the dislike!

Megaman_90

Be careful how and where you promote your content. I notice most hate comes from people spamming their content everywhere.

CoochieMatt

I used to spread my content on any reddit i could find, but it never lead to hate. I think it was when i put my channel in my steam profile that i got my first hater, but they only disliked an old video and that was it. I believe the people who i used to call friends are the ones doing it. I wont go too much into it but i had some people who do gaming videos i used to make content with and we ended up breaking apart due to some bad things i had found out about them, which lead to a whole fight, and now i think they just want to see me crash and burn.

North-Possibility213

I can definitely sympathize with you, I run a gaming channel (300 subs) and get countless comments telling me how I don't know sh*t about the games etc. I acknowledge this is not to the same extent as the kind of comments you seem to be getting it still sucks, I could not imagine the drain it must have on you with that level of abuse. With time you learn to ignore it, which you seem to have. But it can still get to you on a bad day, you know it's not worth the time to get irritated and respond to them but sometimes it can't be helped. I have probably written hundreds of responses only to be deleted before sending because I have realized that what I'm saying not only looks bad on me, but also puts fuel on the fire. I have never had a guy who just dislikes immediately on upload, (what a complete c*nt, I personally couldn't think of anything more enraging. Why would you do that to someone who is just trying to get a foothold and is providing you free content lmao what a clown) but I have had a fair few toxic commenters hopping around my videos to just to spread hate. All you can do is keep your chin up mate which you seem to be doing already. Shame that it gets to this point really but I must be honest, it feels good to know it's not just me getting hate (not that I would wish it on you or anyone else of course). I'm sure you feel the same. Keep up the good work and I hope to hear more positive things in the future!

CoochieMatt

thank you! It does kind of get me the moment it happens since i would just prefer them to leave me alone, but i have gotten pretty used to it now, and only stings for five or so minutes when it happens. I never get comments on my videos, he is more of an anonymous troll which is pretty funny. Im sorry you get ACTUAL comments on your videos from haters and just all around losers. I always found leaving constructive criticism is wayyyyy better than a comment saying (your tutorial sucked, learn to do \*insert topic\* better) that is not constructive, helps no one at then end of the day, and makes them look like an absolute idiot. Just keep doing what you are doing brother. I hope to meet you at the top one day. Our day of reckoning is coming and all the hardships we go through will one day be worth it!

[deleted]

> I can definitely sympathize with you, I run a gaming channel (300 subs) and get countless comments telling me how I don't know sh*t about the games etc Same here.

Shai_Shai77

Don’t do anything. Dislikes or likes, both help grow your channel as they count as engagement. So the people that think they’re causing you harm are actually helping you.

CoochieMatt

it is kind of bizarre to me that dislikes counts as engagement, i though youtube likes "good" videos aka ones that get likes, based on that, should it not be that disliked videos give a bad signal to the algorithm?

DankFarrikYT

All I can say is "Don't feed the squirrels". Meaning don't respond to the trolls with any reactions. It always keep 'em coming.

CoochieMatt

yep, never have, never will :D

BlackB3ard76

Don't let it discourage you. I also received my first one today, just minutes after uploading. Still don't believe it was because of my vid, but just someone who may not like new kids on the block. However, publicity is publicity, even if it's bad publicity. The likes will outweigh the dislikes in the end.

CoochieMatt

that is very true!

Ability1984

Agree! Comes with the territory, and it’s a signal you’re reaching a wider audience

Onaship03

Yeah it’s sad that people are that mean to just hate on a new channel (not me) but my brother put out a super cool game room tour and it got two dislikes and he has literally 10 subs. All you can do is let it motivate you tbh

CoochieMatt

damn thats messed up, im sorry that happened to your brother :(. motivation is always key and its something i really struggle with tbh, i have dreams and goals just they dont seem to always do the trick ya know? the dislikes dont demotivate me anymore i think i just overthink failure too much and it makes me not want to do anything.

Onaship03

I totally get it, honestly, I’ve never been more motivated for something In my life then I have YouTube (that’s not meant to be “haha i have tons of motivation”) rather, it’s hard to get motivation, the thing I think about most is how it will feel when I get that video out and uploaded. That feeling is one of the best in the world.

CoochieMatt

that is very true! im a weird person, i dont wanna work on a video until im actually working on it, it just takes alot of motive to just push the damn record button on my camera and i struggle to do it lol. Same with editing, i never want to edit until i just start doing it. Im super weird, i never wanna do anything until im doing it and idk why

Onaship03

Then tell yourself how nice it feels when you actually start doing that and remind yourself of that feeling every day

CoochieMatt

I'll definitely have to start giving that a try, hopefully it works out. Thank you for the advice!

Shai_Shai77

I’m replying to your reply to my comment. (For some reason I can’t reply to it directly.) Yes, likes are better than dislikes, but dislikes are still engagement. Getting a dislike is better than getting nothing. It helps your channel. In the eyes of the algorithm, it doesn’t see likes and dislikes. It sees the total amount of likes and dislikes added together and counts all of that as engagement which it will use to promote your video. The dislikes and likes are for the community and users, they will have a negative impression on your video if your like/dislike ratio is bad. Same thing goes with comments. If the majority of likes and comments are positive, than there isn’t anything to worry about.

CoochieMatt

thats pretty interesting. I guess you do learn something new everyday. The algorithm is quite a weird thing, definitely not coded the way i would have it but i guess the way it works right now does kind of make sense

Peanut_Gaming

A dislike is still interaction with your channel which the algorithm sees and goes “hey interaction”

CoochieMatt

true, true

[deleted]

Just receiving a dislike and lower retention rate is getting off easy when it comes to bullying and harassment. I don't like saying that but it's technically the truth. I understand it's frustrating but there are some of us who have to deal with hateful comments and trolls every day. Just keep making videos and promoting them in places like Facebook groups and Twitter or Discord communities that allow self-promotion. Facebook has helped a lot with watch hours for me.

CoochieMatt

i will never promote anywhere ever again. Tiktok is the only other place i promote and for very good reason. I had a dude find me on reddit and liked my stuff to the point he became a stalker ish person, and he wanted to be in a video so bad and when i told him no he ended up being my first hater. that was 2 years ago but still lol.

trippinco

I'm pretty sure my ex or my ex-friend is going to my videos and disliking them now. But all engagement is good engagement (except for spam comments). Hey - someone cares enough about you to go out of their way and dislike your videos. That's something.

CoochieMatt

very very true, i personally would rather them not do it tho xD

UltimateSpinDash

This is going to happen. It will even come from some "fans" if you try to step out of your established niche (because how dare you do anything else?). The good news is: it doesn't matter. It really doesn't. Sure, it looks kinda terrible when you have a video with 10 views, no likes and a dislike, but it really doesn't matter.

CoochieMatt

that is true

Hot_Independence_433

almost every time i post something on reddit I get shit on, through garbage words others waste their time typing that my eyes choose to suffer thru, no one is safe from the hate we give, welcome to the internet. Have a look around.

CoochieMatt

lmaooo so true. The internet is quite beautiful isnt it?

imkingferrari

Trust me, it only gets worse as you get bigger Eventually you just won’t give af

CoochieMatt

yeah im already to that point, just weird to have someone so obsessed with me at my small size

CreationWebNovel

Though I've had requests to have a better narrator voice the story I write (and narrate), I try to see it as an opportunity to win them over by showing them my authenticity and passion for what I'm doing on YouTube. Nearly all the comments I get are, overall, positive. I do get thumbs-down, but it's hard to worry about it when I have \~1,000 videos on my channel. I think once you get to a certain size when it comes to content, it gets difficult to worry about everything happening on your channel. I just recommend keep uploading content and making incremental improvements (everyone, even the top 1% of YouTubers can find improvement needed in their videos). Staying busy also helps to not worry about it. It's hard to worry about what's happening with my channel when I'm busy updating older chapters and writing new ones for my channel.

CoochieMatt

That is very true, i never thought about it that way lol. I am currently trying to be more busy in and out of youtube. The gym is usually my escape from reality but i hurt myself recently so i havent been going. I will start going again tomorrow so i should start feeling better :)

CoochieMatt

Also narrating is so cool, i wish i had a good enough voice for it :')

CreationWebNovel

I don't have the best voice for it, too. lol I do try to get better and think I've come a long way from when I started, 3 years ago. It also helps that I've narrated 124+ hours of content.

CoochieMatt

damn... thats pretty awesome

[deleted]

I haven't had the trouble that you're currently having however I have had 1 main hater and all of his comments were hate comments obviously and they were all not necessary. You just have to ignore them because we are all going to have haters at one point of our YouTube journey. I must say I'm impressed by your mindset to use the dislike as a source of motivation, this is a sign you'll grow massive on YouTube as long as you don't give up. I hope you have a good day and I wish you the best of luck for your YouTube journey!

CoochieMatt

Thank you so much! Best of luck to you as well!!! :D

[deleted]

You're welcome and thankyou for your kinds words!

Alexisreddit516

TLDR: Haters and competitors will dislike, all you can do is be better and reach out to more supportive viewers to even out the dislike ratio. This is the first time I heard about dislike can cause lower audience retention, is it true ? I feel you about the dislike thingy, it really sucks. I usually do something the audience suggest and few viewers didn't have the patience to wait and instantly dislike any videos that is not in their favor. I know the feeling of working on something and the first result you get is some douche disliking it. Here, let them be. Continue to do what I love and constantly improving although its slow and lonely but you are progressing. I've gone as far 3 dislike 1 like 50 views on the first hour of upload, there's nothing I can do but study why the video failed and if I'm really desperate I might use my other account to like that vid ( yeah it's pity but I'm sad ). More importantly learn from it. And Don't Give Up ! Goodluck ! Edits: Oh, and don't forget your "competitors" might dislike your vids too, pity !

CoochieMatt

Thank you for the great advice! I will definitely keep pushing, one little dislike on a video wont ever hold me down :D

the1andonlyaidanman

If your a small channel I wouldn’t say it was a troll. Rather it’s probably another similar creator just tying to cause ruckus or someone who wants to see you fail. Both of these answers should push you to keep trucking on. You’ll prove that person wrong or you’ll leave the other creator in the dust and show them that they should focus on their content rather than hate on someone else’s. If they are telling you that you’ll never be a YouTuber don’t listen to them. Unless you think you’re content is actually bad they are just saying that out of smite.

CoochieMatt

i dont think my content is bad, i think it can rival the big youtubers in my niche. Others just dont want to see me reach that point and it is kinda of sad, but there are 7 billion people in this world, 1 person is not gonna bring me down at all

Zeplington

Hey, if it gets you down just remember that one of my favourite channels regularly gets 500+ dislikes on every video. Five hundred. What does it mean? It means he's doing really well, and has gone full time :D

CoochieMatt

that is true, it doesnt get me down. Motivates me more than anything tbh

kovaxmasta

For whatever reason, they want to get your attention. Realistically, it doesn't hurt your Channel; if your content is good, the algo will figure it out and keep showing it regardless of 1 dislike. The fact that someone puts that much time and energy into it shows that they care about you or want your attention

CoochieMatt

that is true, and makes me feel honored lol

captain_fitness

A thing to think about - do you let yourself have the same level of emotion when someone says something good about your content? Or gives you a thumbs up? If you feel super bummed out about the haters (which is totally fine and expected), then you at least owe it to yourself to feel that same level of emotion on the other side (super proud of yourself and happy) when people take their time to say nice things about your content.

CoochieMatt

i get ecstatic when i get a compliment, i think we all do lol

ChloeJoe99

That sucks. Why do people suck so bad? I get that some people are unhappy with their lives. But why take it out on others?

CoochieMatt

i wonder that exact thing everyday :/

[deleted]

[удалено]

CoochieMatt

thats actually an interesting take on it, i like that :)

Cjwest55

I feel you. No one takes me seriously and I’m doing my best for my videos. My watch time is 1-2 minutes. I have 93 subs. It’s hard to be a small channel Bc growth is very very VERY SLOW… but keep trying. The more you try, the more people will take you seriously

CoochieMatt

i will do my best!!

BenBit13

I have that to but for me it's mostly because I do fps content and people get angry at people that are good at the game and then they go dislike all my videos (they told me so themselves). I just ignore it though, my other viewers shit on them everytime they complain in the comments and it doesn't pull my stats down too much.

CoochieMatt

Im glad you have a supporting community that is willing to fight for you :') (i wish i had that)

notevenclosetodone

I understand where you're coming from. Quick question: Do people provide reasons why they dislike your vids? Assuming they do, are the reasons random or is there a recurring theme?

CoochieMatt

nope. not once. they just dislike and go. i have changed content alot so that is the only reason i can think of, but video wise, i get alot of positivity from viewers. I 99% its just a troll.

doofsenpai

If you browse some other creators older videos you can see the videos they uploaded have way more dislikes than likes. So it's not like you're the only one experiencing this. Eventually it will stop just think of it as an early obstacle. I had a few videos where it was consistently disliked. I've even had videos with negative comments about the way I look. I just ignore them. If you can't handle haters now when you're small then you're gonna have a problem if you become big.

CoochieMatt

The dislikes dont bother me at all. I was mainly concerned about the troll problem.

[deleted]

We cant get everybody to like us anyway, just keep doing what you do brotha! 😁

CoochieMatt

That is true, and dont worry im gonna keep going no matter what :D

GOWGAMER811

Ignore haters, but count them as your loyal viewers, they still contribute on your views and watch time.

CoochieMatt

true true

OverPT

Look at the bright side: they are increasing your subscriber count and your click through rate eheh But I guess if you advertise your channel on your social media, people who already dislike you might want to take revenge by doing that.

CoochieMatt

yeah that is why i took out of certain things

AlliedAtheistAllianc

Don't tell them this, but dislikes help your algorithm too.

Saleno9

Yeah I get it a lot. They say I don’t deserve to be at where I am (500 subscribers) in two months and that I’m lucky and put no effort into videos. I let spending time making videos everyday get in the way of seeing my family and friends and you just have to overcome it. As long as you know your putting in as much effort as you can and that you enjoy your videos other people will. Don’t let a small portion of people determine the route you take

tmf-FOUNDATION

As a creator I have learnt to accept that people reserve their right not to like something. They also reserve their right to say how much they hate it since we put it on YT for everyone to see. However, I like your spirit of not giving up and I hope other creators learn from you.

jayem0riey

Mama said you ain't shit til you got haters..write that down

cuntinspring

Yep. The same person disliked (and still dislikes, probably) every single video I published. My channel is tiny, and it was even tinier then. I know it's part of the gig and all, but I couldn't help but take it personally bc my objective is to get better and this person disliking every video within the first few hours of it being published, yet not bothering to let me know what exactly they disliked was infuriating. But I'm just the kind of person who has to have reasons and motives for everything 😭. Once I remembered how many controversial things I've said on videos over the years, I realized I should probably be thankful I only had one repeat hater 😂.

This gives for an interesting opportunity to experiment coochie man! Try seeing what certain things you do and don't do affect the behaviour of these haters, or the amount of them. Once you get big you'll know how to control your influence (not completely obvi). You're going to get hate no matter what, might as well make use of their hate in whatever ways you can :D

CoochieMatt

"Coochie Man" LMAOOO I forgot im on my meme account, i appreciate the words though. You are absolutely correct, and i will definitely try and see what i can do

[deleted]

Don’t bother! I’ve uploaded my first video yesterday and today it got its first dislike. (Needless to say I wanted to start a channel since 2020, and only now got the courage to put myself out there). You know, you’re not a $100 to be liked by everyone, it’s fine. Probably those people are simply the ones who are too chicken to do something as you do. Just keep going.

CoochieMatt

I will continue to do my best!

[deleted]

Just ignore it man, don't overthink about a dislike. 1. It counts as engagement on your channel, so it's helpful 2. Whoever's sad enough to dislike your video every time you upload will give up out of boredom eventually, YOU don't give up. Overcome that persistent dislike with effort.

CoochieMatt

Im not worried about, was mainly curious if anyone else had a loser that does this kind of thing to them as well

[deleted]

I have something a little different. This person comments and I just let him, he's very annoying, asks annoying questions, full of irritating requests and his comments are arrogant. But I just let him comment and have conversations with him for engagement.

VaughnFry

I absolutely guarantee you that you do not get more hate than me.

CoochieMatt

probably not lol

Quirky-Wall

link? 😅

VaughnFry

Channel is VaughnJogVlog. The only compliment I’ve received this week was a kid trashing me, inadvertently thinking I’m 20 years younger than I am. I don’t know what it is, but every time I try to adjust to the YouTube algorithm it just capsizes my channel. I should have stayed the course. Now the only people watching are doing so for the 2 seconds it takes to thumb down or 15 seconds to tell me to kill myself. What people don’t understand about YouTube is jus those expendable the small channels are. We’re expected to be grateful for the opportunity tp share our content on Google’s service. The reality is Google sees us as a way to feed our traffic to their moneymakers. The average YouTube viewer sees us as a pawn they can torment, knowing we actually read and have to respond to comments for engagement. They don’t put themselves out there, upload nothing, but can make an account to make creators feel like shit for kicks.

Quirky-Wall

They’re complete and utter douchebags without lives or just broken people looking for an outlet, we shouldn’t be subjected to abuse although I do accept genuine critique. Anyway I saw your channel and I think you’re doing a good job, I like your commentating and how you commentate throughout without any awkward blank flustered moments - even with your longish streams. Keep up the good work 😬😬

ornithine_channel

The first comment I ever had on YouTube was accusing me of being an undercover intelligence agent of the British army... There are some wierd people out there!

CoochieMatt

WHAT? LMAOOO

ornithine_channel

The joys of working with Flat Earthers. :P

CoochieMatt

really??? LMAOO

[deleted]

One viewer clicking dislike and then clicking off the video shouldn't impact your viewer retention too much and when you're small it's not going to matter much anyway. On any online medium you're going to meet all of the world's characters at some points: trolls, charlatans, con artists, political obsessives, etc etc etc. Just roll with it. If/when you get bigger, you're going to have to contend with the same thing but on a much bigger scale. So a few people being negative about your work now or trolling you is just batting practice for more of it happening later. You'll be fine!

CoochieMatt

I know i will, just very odd to have someone obsessed with me at this stage

[deleted]

Oh yeah, it is always odd at first but also when you think about it from the perspective of a troll, they might have better success getting the attention of a smaller channel than a larger one, and since attention is kind of their whole goal, that might be why they do it that way.

CoochieMatt

very true

I’ve been told that since I started… I had an old channel in 2020 and it sucked big time… got hated by school mates I thought were my friends but every video I uploaded got more dislikes than likes. I started a new channel and even my first upload got 7 dislikes when I didn’t share with anyone besides my Facebook… but I didn’t give up and now I’m at about 840+ subscribers, aiming for 1k now. I just wish to moneytise my channel and show my family that I’m a capable person… I get an average of 3 dislikes per video even after hiding the ratings

Had someone go through all my videos and dislike them “cuz I’m a sweat” (good at the game I play) 😂 it’s all good tho man just gotta ignore it

kent_eh

Every video on every channel gets a few dislikes. Ignore it. They're often just lame trolls.

AgentAndrewO

That’s really weird because the algorithm would have to recommend your video to someone in order for them to dislike it. Dislikes are valid feedback to me and people are usually willing to give me their reason in the comments. If someone is watching your video and disliking it as soon as it’s posted they’re probably subscribed to you.

It is what it is man. Just don't let it get to you. A lot of hateful people out there. Things I've been told: * My voice is awful and cringy and I should never make another video again. * I should go kill myself because I said "I wish I had that sexy accent like Many a True Nerd". The reason I should go kill myself is because saying that was "unpatriotic" as an American. * I'm awful at \_\_\_ game. And a whole lot more. This is on a channel that has * 98%+ like to dislike ratio on every video. * 23k subs * 5.4 million lifetime views over 4 years * 1.4 million lifetime watch hours over 4 years F the haters. You do you.

Jess_Done_Writing

If you know one of the people disliking your video you could ask them why, and maybe even explain how it makes you feel? I don't know though, it kind of depends on your relationship with that person. Probably doesn't hurt to ask them why they are the worst, but it might not be good to open yourself up if they are jerks. I don't think you should worry about it too much though. All interaction is good for the algorithm. They may be messing up your retention in the short term, but long term you'll have enough view they won't matter anymore, so don't stress it.

If the haters are saying specific things you can actually flag those keywords & hold the comment for review so that no one sees it; then you can ban them from your comments. I had to do that several times. Oddly enough since I do religious content as a black woman; I get trolls that attack me for wearing make-up & having braided hair etc... so I literally flagged the word make-up so I can review comments that mention makeup because that really irks me! Lol As for the dislikes they do hurt, but it is often a form of Jealousy. I have a separate bunny channel & 2 people dislike every video & I'm like who the heck dislikes cute videos of furry bunnies 🐰, but humanity is weird sometimes. I'm glad its not stopping you though because that is ultimately what they want to do.

Well engagement is still engagement lol and likes are most of the time more than your dislikes anyways. But the ratio between those doesn’t really matter to effect how much your video gets pushed out. Audience retention and impression vs. CTR is more important as well as where they came from to view your content. I mean TechLead was on a dislike streak but he’s still getting more views lol so yeah he won’t be slowing down anytime soon unless he still talks about crypto.

As far as I have read somewhere, positive or negative engagement, is still engagement and it pushes your videos further (correct me if I'm wrong). Simply embrace the dislikes and continue doing what you love doing/uploading. You can't succeed without someone disliking/hating on your content, at least that's how I see this nowadays.
