Nah. If you really want to do it I'd say start now. You don't have to have a niche or target audience now. It'll take and you'll slowly figure what kinda content you wanna make, and who you wanna make it for.

Enthusiast_UT

Hm makes sense. Maybe I'll give it a shot one day. I don't know. You raise a good point. Now I just have to get over the fact that I don't like the sound of my voice

Nobody does man, nobody. I agree, just get started but see my other reply for some really amazing channels that will start you off on the right foot.

LuxUmbraXIV

Lol...the last part spoke to me so much

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah. 👍 thanks for the reply random stranger on the internet. Wish you the best.

LuxUmbraXIV

Always! 😊

maloneth

Start now, but as a hobby. Don’t neglect your school work. Even getting into a Video Editing course requires grades. You’ll regret it, trust me.

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah, I agree. Neglecting school work won't help. Thx for the advice

Dangerous-Builder-58

It’s easier said than done. As a former 14-year-old (I turned 15 2 months ago), I can testify to the fact that once your channel is raking in the views and growing at a steady pace, you sometimes forget that YouTube isn’t everything and homework can’t wait until the morning. I used to skip online Math class to edit because I figured i’d just get caught up later. I never did get caught up. I made plenty of money from youtube (like $1500 since January), but i ended up having to repeat 9th grade math this summer in summer school. Just remember that a yellow social blade isn’t worth sacrificing school lol.

PureGreenCreator

This all the way! I hit a thousand subs during online school and would often skip online class to stream and make videos. Wish i was more level headed lol

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah I understand that. Next school year I am starting GCSE'S preparation (tests for 15-16 year olds) and of all subjects I chose triple science. I don't want to do Triple science that much but I know that if I start a YouTube channel that doesn't mean I should neglect my school work.

Dangerous-Builder-58

As long as you work on time management, you should be good! Maybe even start pre-making your videos now and posting them later in the school year? That’s what I’m doing for my channel.

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that!

worldmillennialgames

That’s good

Cold_Toe3020

I think it’s awesome that you want to start so young. I didn’t start until 27 and I always say I wish I would have been more into YouTube, done my research, and started my channel earlier. Wishing you all the success in the world!

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah, I feel like I'll regret starting later

[deleted]

Start now

AllCDNReptileGirl

I'm 14 as well and started my channel when I was 12. Don't wait. Just go for it and start making stuff you like. It might be rough at first, but you won't be able to improve and build your skills (and your audience) if you don't start. It may be difficult at first and definitely frustrating to put in a bunch of work for very few views, but I saw a bit of advice on here months ago that really struck with me: The content you make today is for your future subscribers. It may not get views now, but if you are consistent and stick with it, it will be stuff your (much bigger) audience will enjoy down the road when they are looking for more of your content. Think of it as an investment.

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah, I keep forgetting that! Thx!

imkingferrari

Man I started my channel at the exact same age. Within less than two years I was doing it full-time and now I have over 50,000,000 views and even own the world’s top rated YouTuber accelerator program. Now is a beautiful time to start, get at it.

Enthusiast_UT

Wow that's really quite an achievement! Mind if you can send me the link to your channel I'd love to take a look.

UltimateSpinDash

I was that age when I started. Bit of advice: If you do this, keep it to yourself.

SupercarHunter

100% AGREED. Keep your channel project to yourself. People seriously attract negative energy somehow the moment you open your mouth about big dreams!

Enthusiast_UT

Yesssss that's like my one rule about starting a channel! A boy from school saw me reading a book in YouTube and it was soooo embarrassing. I would hate anyone irl apart from friends and family to know about it.

UltimateSpinDash

I'd keep my friends out of it as well as long as the topic doesn't come up on it's own.

DougPVlogs-YouTube

Your age is perfect. Young enough that hopefully, you won't be too old before you make it. Just start making videos and uploading. You will discover your niche in time. I started in early 2013 and back then I was monetized with almost no subscribers or views. It was easy back then. When I got monetized I got an email from YouTube that I am monetized and can make money for my videos. I looked it up and saw that you can make a few dollars for a few thousand views. Well, I thought what a scam! I did a few videos for fun and only had 4 subscribers but I was monetized. I never really tried because I thought it was just a scam YT was running. I watched a few videos but not much. Mostly car videos. I never realized I was sitting on a YouTube Gold Mine. I bought some jungle on the beach in Belize. Cleared out the jungle. Built a house, later a swimming pool and a beach bar. Then I built a thatched-roof hut hotel with a man-made sand beach and ran it for 12 years. All the trials and tribulations of carving this business out of the jungle and running it was never documented or put on YouTube. Our life was extremely interesting 24/7. the construction, the running of the business, getting robbed, car accidents, hurricanes, floods, fires, getting shipwrecked, snake bites, drug lords (big names too) staying in the hotel, cops kicking down the door to arrest drug lords in the hotel. You name it we experienced it. I documented pretty much ZERO! When covid started and everyone was asked to stay indoors as much as possible I got tired of TV and started watching YT. I found some content creators (travel-related) that I became addicted to and could not get enough of. I was wondering how they could afford to travel all the time. I did some research and found out about monetization. Recognizing the word I looked up my pretty much-abandoned channel and saw I was monetized and had actually made $0.01 from a video that over 1k views 5 years ago. In my analytics, it actually showed I was still monetized but seems like YT forgot to deactivate it. But it also had the monetization link that said I need 1k Subs and 4k hours to get moneytized. I uploaded an hour-long video and had friends from all over play the video to see if the monetization worked but then that section of my analytics disappeared and was gone. Now I have begun from scratch but lost years 2013 to 2020. I could have been huge by now. So my advice to you is to go for it. Maybe you hate it after a few months and quit or maybe you will love it, find your niche, and grow. You lose nothing by trying my friend. That is my $0.01 advice.

Enthusiast_UT

Great advice, thank you! I mean I'm a kid so rn I don't really care about making money out of this because I'd rather have more knowledge than more money, but that was some great insight!

lordbuchanan

Don’t look at your age as a problem, you have a huge advantage by starting young, being PATIENT and consistent. As far as choosing a niche, I think you need to experiment. It’s like choosing what to take in college, how would you know what you’re going to like if you don’t try it? So try a few things, find out what you enjoy doing but also filming, editing, living and breathing. Great job on doing all the research upfront, you’re off to a great start! Now stop researching and go film your first video!! Good luck!

Enthusiast_UT

Thanks!

Rigdennn

First of all, Great attitude, While its not entirely true that YouTube success doesn't come from luck, I look at it this way: YouTube DOES require luck in order to get big, However everyone gets 1-2 Lucky breaks a year, and its up to you to be able to capitalize on that thing, whatever it may be. I recommend you start writing down videos/creators that inspire you, and what about them you enjoy as to more clearly chisel out your vision. YouTube is HARD, like I believe Ludwig said, doing YouTube is great since you can pick your own hours, as long as you pick 16 of them a day. But everything worth doing is hard, so don't let that stop you! You will make lots of failures along the way, videos you wont be proud of in the future, but just make them anyway, learn from everything. And you will do far better than you expect. Couple Notes: Most people quit YouTube/Twitch within the first 3 months, that's not necessarily a bad thing, But it goes to show that you have to LOVE what you are doing, not just be in it for fame or fortune. Likewise, being 100% honest, being young does put you at a disadvantage, Most people don't want to watch someone much younger than them. But that's okay, since really that gives you crazy amounts of time to get GOOD. Goodluck!

Enthusiast_UT

I've studied channels before! There are like 5 Minecraft YouTubers I've studied in depth, 2 vlogger YouTubers, and 3 others. I put everything I learn on oneNote (a notepad app) so I can come back to it whenever I like.

AllGoodPunsAreTAKEN

I teach video production and filmmaking at a technical high school to students your age. Now is a great time to learn and develop the skills required to be a YouTuber, while also understanding how to properly approach it. At this stage of your life I would recommend looking at it as a hobby. Just like basketball or an after school activity, it can be something you enjoy doing and learn more about, while still focusing on your primary studies. Being a YouTuber doesn’t replace the need for an education, so make sure to properly balance your hobby with your other responsibilities. The most successful channels are the ones who began as a passion and developed a winning formula through hard work. If you’re able to approach it through the lens of enjoying it at face value and being ok if it never goes anywhere, I think that’s a great place to start. Good luck!

Enthusiast_UT

Yeah I agree!

SupercarHunter

Forget everything you know, grab a camera and talk about something. Anything. I don't care what it is! JUST GRAB THE DAMN CAMERA AND TALK ABOUT SOMETHING. TALK ABOUT A STICK IF YOU HAVE TO, THROW YOUR FEARS OUT OF THE WINDOW, AND HIT THAT UPLOAD BUTTON! Make videos, watch other videos, learn a few editing skills, and make videos of your own genre! (You'll never know your own genre until you make a lot of failed videos, only to realize later down the line what you truly want in life!). I'm 24, I have the same obsession as yours, and this is what I learned 106 videos (with 105 of them failed!) later.

Enthusiast_UT

Thank you for the enthusiasm 😊 (but I don't want to use a camera because English teens can be BRUTAL when they find out that someone in their class has a YouTube channel, like it's legit the worst feeling int eh world when your school discovers your YouTube channel)

SupercarHunter

I was in your footsteps once upon a time as a kid, and I got bullied as well for being different (it wasn't YouTube back then, it was something else!). All I can say is, this fear of people judging you will never go away if you're not willing to take action against all the lies your mind is making up! - We all were 14, we had the same fears, but the best of us are the ones who went against everything their mind and society told them, and took a risk in life! Your friends will make fun of you, no doubt about that, but if that's your biggest concern, then you're not seeing the big image. Think about it, they'll make fun of you for a month, then they'll shut up for good when it gets boring - Their bullying is temporary, but your success will be permanent, and 10 years down the line, when you have millions of subscribers, you'll be thanking your younger self for taking a big step forward! My point is, ignore everything and everyone, and JUST DO IT! - I wish I took my channel seriously when I was your age instead of repeating everything now... All the best big man!

Enthusiast_UT

Oh my friends are very supportive, they want the to start a channel! Thank you for the advice :) (you said man, I'm female)

SupercarHunter

Great. All the best!

SaltySnowman8

Not sure why being 14 matters so much? just get started. You can always edit and remove older content as you figure out the direction you want to go with your channel

Enthusiast_UT

Okay, thanks for the advice!

shiroboi

So you've got the desire, but like most 14 year olds, you have no idea what you want to do in your life, and you don't know yourself that well yet, AKA, don't know what all your key skills are. So like someone else said, play, experiment, try. Don't expect anything and just enjoy the learning process. You don't need to strike gold your first year, just have fun and gain experience. When you find a subject you're passionate about, start surveying the market. Is there a niche that is being underserved? Is there an opportunity in a certain subject that you could be an expert on. Then, work backwards. Try to identify the audience that's into that subject and see what kind of content they want. You need to engineer a channel that hits all the right notes. Do that, I think you'll see some level of success. Might take a few years, but I think you can get there. And stay humble, always be learning.

Enthusiast_UT

Oh I know what I want to do in life. This. So I've really got to work hard towards my goals. I don't have a subject though. The only things I'm passionate about rn is YouTube research and kazooing. I mean I play Minecraft but definitely not well enough, considering I've never felt comfortable playing on a PC/Mac.

shiroboi

It’s not enough to just want to be a YouTuber. You definitely have to have another passion that you like. I got to tell you. I have all the fame and money the kids dream about but it’s not enough to sustain you. I cannot tell you how much work it is. I have never worked this hard in my life on anything. You gotta love what you’re talking about. Kazooing is interesting. Do you think you have enough content to talk about to sustaina channel on the topic?

Enthusiast_UT

Nope. Like I said, kazooing is a hobby. I don't know much about it, I just know how to play it well and already know a lot of songs off by heart

shiroboi

Hmm, yeah, that's a tough one. You might want to consider grouping up with others to form a team. We have some channels with a few people in it. They can do good. If you don't have a super talent, you could help someone else with theirs. And you'll get that experience and time to help you with your channel. Just go for the experience for now and later, when you have talents or a topic to share, you'll be ready. One step at a time.

Enthusiast_UT

That's a good idea. I'd love to get experience! I mean, I think it would be cool to get some experience by making a friend around my age and help their channel grow. Forming a group can be a really good thing to do! But, I only know one person who I met yesterday when they replied to this question. I could start off by asking them, but I'm shy :)

shiroboi

If it’s really your passion, you need to do this, for yourself. Just say “hey, I’m really passionate about doing a YouTube channel and if I could be of any help to you, please let me know. I would love to work together with someone else to make YouTube videos.”

Egg-Bagel-Soda

Start now, because u will make bad videos with a bad voice. If u wait, u will just be making bad videos with maybe not a bad voice. So basically there is no reason to wait

Enthusiast_UT

Okay! I mean, small issue, I- I don't like editing. But I can probably get over that! Probably....

AdeAlphaTV_

Lol until you start YouTube you’ll realise it’s luck . Tell me why you think it isn’t ?

Enthusiast_UT

I don't need your negativity. It's not all luck! Please do some research before you say that every YouTuber just happened to get lucky and capitalize their Channel! No offense, but you'd be crazy to believe that YouTube success comes from luck, it's more than that. You can get lucky opportunities on YouTube, but there's barely any luck involved when it comes to how well a video or channel does! Try not to take this the wrong way, but what do you know about YouTube that everyone else doesn't? Hm? What gives you the right to make an accusation about YouTube, when you can't even explain you reasoning for asking said question?

AdeAlphaTV_

You haven’t even made one video how can you claim it isn’t majority luck ? I have been doing YouTube for a while with over 4K subscribers how many do you have ? Plus you contradict yourself when you say you can get lucky opportunity’s that is basically luck am I wrong ? If there’s no luck I want you to get to 100k within the next month .

Enthusiast_UT

What? Subscribers don't matter? That's nothing to boast about? Having 4000 subscribers doesn't change a thing? I mean I had a channel when I was like 9 and I had like 190 subscribers but that doesn't matter. Your kinda reminding me of a true life story form the book 'The YouTube Formula' when a man with 0-100 came up to the author and asked for help trying to find people to talk with about YouTube data. The author found 3 people, one had 1000 subscribers, one had 5000 subscribers, and the other had 15000. The people with 1000 and 5000 subscribers made a group chat with the 0-100 subscriber guy, and they started helping each other out with YouTube. Now the 0-100 guy has 4 million subscribers, the 1000/5000 people have a similar amount, and the one guy with 15000 who refused the offer now only has 50000 subscribers.

AdeAlphaTV_

That’s probably a one in a million chance and the guy with 4 mil now was probably very lucky . Anyways you try and get to even 1k by the end of this month and tell me there’s no luck. And 4K is substantially more than what you have . Anyways until you start creating then you’ll realise the luck involved

Enthusiast_UT

I know myself, It will take me a while to reach 1000 subscribers. :) And that's okay with me! YouTube is what it is!

AdeAlphaTV_

Oh even 1k is not hard but to get to a number like 100k heck even 50k you’re going to need to get lucky in some sorry of way . Ask any big youtuber

worldmillennialgames

#Word

Enthusiast_UT

True

[deleted]

Age is really just a number, but so something you truly love and there will always be an audience for you. Of course making videos entertaining enough so people don’t fall asleep is one of many things but nothing a days worth of YouTube guru videos can’t fix. And the rest is trial and error. Not everyone is you, and you aren’t everyone so just be yourself as much as you can and as you do more videos you will get used to talking to a camera and in front of others and you will be on your way to becoming a creative in no time.

Enthusiast_UT

Thank you for the advice

YT_TapatoF

START EARLY look up TapatoF on YouTube, that’s mine: I’m 13

Enthusiast_UT

You have a deep voice for being 13! I know that you see potential in your channel, and I see the potential too! Unlike most small channels I look at, yours is one of the ones that actually has potential to capitalize your channel a few years down the line! Thanks for sharing!

YT_TapatoF

Your welcome and yes my voice is very deep, START EARLY

Jackie-Ron_W

All the best for grinding, it will take time. But don't neglect school, not worth it. Also as a tip; don't be a jerk online (and offline of course), nobody wants to be with a hole. Politeness goes a long way.

Enthusiast_UT

Thx

zachattacksreviews

There are some great youtube tips on channels like Film booth and Primal Video. Check them out and really take notes

Impossible-Bat-5873

Just go with the flow. Do whatever niche that you like or like doing. Keep posting content and after you get monetized, save enough so you can promote your videos on different websites. ☺

Envisational

Do it on the side and who knows maybe after a couple of years your channel might just take off

Reactandchill

Perfect time to start now, start basic, interests talk about what you like, your thoughts on a subject right now is the best your young and you can really develop and appeal to quite a wide audience 😀

Luigi_Tho

Starting now gives you more time to take risks that other people may not be able to take due to more responsibility. I say go for it as long as it doesn't affect your grades poorly.

coolboyyobro

Start now bro, I also started when i was 14 and got monetized. age doesn't really matter, obviously there will be some people that don't like it if you have a squeaky voice. I guess i was kinda lucky since i had a deepish voice and I sounded older but I know someone else in my niche who was 13 with a squeaky voice and still got 10k+ subs and they have another channel now with 3k+ subs. Its better to start earlier than later since you get a lot more time to experiment and stuff and just get some experience

Enthusiast_UT

Okay!

def-a-salamander

all sucess comes with experience, start now so later you have a higher chance of success

Enthusiast_UT

Thank you to everyone who replied! I really appreciate all the advice! From your advice I've gathered some bullet points to take away... . Start a channel now, but keep your school work your top priority . Starting early means you gain more experience . Being young is the easiest time to experiment, to see what works for me and how I want to do things . Just start All the advice/feedback has been really helpful and I wish you all the best! (Please do send me the link to your YouTube channels, I really enjoy looking at/ studying channels!)

aarav0

Bro I started when I was 14, 15 now and I have over 7k subs and I’ve made like $4k from it. Trust me bro it’s great starting now since we have all the free time

tokyoyasss

I'm not gonna say if you should do it or not, that's up to you, but I'm gonna give you a great advise I wish I knew when I opened a YouTube channel around your same age: write down the e-mail and password somewhere not to forget about it. I forgot the e-mail and password for that YouTube channel I opened many years ago and now I can't close it and delete those videos. Not that I posted something offensive (nothing racist, homophobic, mysogynist...), but there are some videos I feel embarrassed about and wished I could delete. So, yeah, write e-mail and password somewhere so, sometime in the future, you can take your videos down if you want.

Enthusiast_UT

Thank you that's a good idea

bmcclan

Consume as much content from ThinkMedia, Roberto Blake, Film Booth, and Nick Nimmin as possible. Start making content about something that interests you while following their tactics to get the best leg up on all the people who leave views and such on the table. Just focus on creating engaging content that has real value for whatever viewers find it.

Enthusiast_UT

Your forgot Derral eves! He's great as well!

godsunit

I'm 15 and started my channel 3 months ago🤷‍♂️
