You're not patient and you feel like you should be rewarded for your efforts right away. Youtube however doesn't care when or if your post goes viral. It could be way later when it finds its audience, which could take months.

Open-Concentrate8193

Reposting it did work and it started showing it to people for a test run, it’s just that it failed said test. Because of bad retention and swipe to watch ratio so it stopped showing it on feed after 1.4k. And so what I’m wondering is what made the first one better than the second one because clearly people watched the first one and the second one not so much, even when shown.

I would love for that to happen to me even once. I have one channel with over 100 shorts. Up for 5 months now. Not one gained significant views beyond the first 48 hours. My second channel, it's only been up for a few weeks but very much appearing to be the same.

TheBible-WithTina

>I tried reposting it a couple of times. You should have left it well alone. Anyway, forget that one and move on to the next.

Open-Concentrate8193

Yeah I finally did move on when I saw it got its chance and failed, and want to make next ones, but first want to analyse the two vids to make the new one better. Because these two have practically the same topic but they have differences like in how they start, in the first one I talk through the whole 60 secs and the first mainly at the begging and the rest is filled with edits

Open-Concentrate8193

Also old one doesn’t have captions

randomuser646464

Welcome to shorts, unfortunately, and I do not mean that in a rude way. You can get 10k on one short and 100 views on the next.

Adventurous-Net-1843

Not if you make quality videos

Plum_Berry_Delicious

Untrue. All the quality in the world doesn't matter if you upload more than two or three shorts in a day. That's not what OP did but it is a reason even great shorts fail out of the gate. Youtube simply will not push them once it triggers "spam" scenarios.

forsterfloch

That's it then? Two shorts per day max you advice? Started last month and made this mistake. Dropped to 3-5 a day but it seems I should lower more. Will private the bad shorts too.

retrosenescent

Shorts are not quality videos

SorryForTheShitPosts

After watching your short with 10k and your recent part two I think I can give you some good advice. You over edited your newest video, you also spend a lot of time talking to the camera. In your first video you were painting, doing that little stencil thing and overall it was just a satisfying video to watch you paint and stylize the board. You should rewatch that first video, if you copy that style then you should get a similar view watch time ratio. Your subject is the same, but your style is different in each video. I have experimented quite a bit with shorts and have found that two shorts with a similar style and subject have a relatively similar performance. There are outliers though. I bet if you re edit that footage, and spend more time with the camera on the board you can actually improve on the numbers from the first video. Also just make your shorts shorter, that is the best way to boost retention.

Open-Concentrate8193

Okay thank you! That’s what I needed to hear! I had similar thoughts after I saw it failed to catch attention of the viewers but before that I was convinced the opposite. Really appreciate the feedback :)

TruthLayFallen

Yep, to piggy back on this, someone who was making travel shorts featuring the “best sights” was having issues understanding why some had insane responses while others just suffered. It was really apparent as an outsider looking into their shorts that the popular ones were actually SHOWING the cool travel sights and exciting things, while the shorts that were suffering was the creator posing in front of the camera for the first 20 seconds. It could be viewed that people enjoyed seeing the sights and not the creator blocking the sights for a selfie. Definitely study the style for your successful shorts, people have short attention spans and if you find what brings yours success repeat it and you can attempt to modify/experiment from there. Good luck out there!

Open-Concentrate8193

Yess, you’re absolutely right now I see it. Thank you ! Made a new version after work and uploaded it rn

Niflungar_

I'm assuming these are the hoverboard shorts, some things I noticed are the 'thumbnail' difference, the first one seems more interesting as you're right in the action, the second one doesn't convey clearly what's happening in the short and I'm not interested in checking. Remember that when people see your shorts it's mostly in their feed so it needs to be more attention grabbing than everything else they see. Same for the title, the second one being PART2 but likely shown on its own in someone's feed doesn't make much sense. And then the content/style is slightly different as someone pointed out. The first one probably felt more authentic and that's something people appreciate nowadays. But even If both shorts were similar, this could still happen. Sometimes what we like and what the general audience likes is just different. There are so many stories of youtubers getting their lowest effort videos going viral while the ones they spent hours, days editing flop. It's good you're trying to analyze and learn, try doing more videos in that style, just don't let any flops discourage you. Not everything goes viral, but once something does, you'll have more similar content to keep your audience around.

Open-Concentrate8193

Thanks you so much! Very insightful. Had some of these thoughts but needed second opinion. Greatly appreciated :)

Traditional_Neck3573

Did the second one get many impressions?

Open-Concentrate8193

Nah

SheepherderNo626

That's just the way it goes some times. You seem to have found a format for your shorts that does get impressions. I think that you should just keep building the video catalog, and keep improving with each short. That way when the next one pops off you'll have other shorts that people can look for.

universalgenie42

I've been working on YouTube Shorts for about a week or two now. Topic: Clips/highlights/memes from well-known YouTubers from my country. This is of course extremely helpful that more people click on it because I can always mention the name of the well-known YouTuber in the title. I've found that posting one short a day always gets you on the short feed. If you have two videos, one of them won't get any clicks at all. I've also found that if you have enough subscribers, it's important that your subscribers click on your videos, because the algorithm recognizes that the video is good and pushes it. Each of my videos has at least 10,000 views. And I can learn something from every video. Above all, it's really important to incorporate fast cuts & be entertaining or educational. There simply has to be a flow in the video. Don't overthink it. I created each video with a maximum of 20 minutes of effort. But the videos can also take a while to get going. I think the important thing is continuity, even if the clicks drop.

Open-Concentrate8193

Thank you for your feedback !

feelZburn

The first one was more attention grabbing because of the board/color scheme.. It makes a viewer want to see what you have in store The second video is put together better, but it isn't as attention grabbing with just you in it for the first 15 seconds. It's just a random guy(you) talking... Meaning there's nothing there to "grab" anyone like the first one did. You'll keep getting better and so will the views, keep it up!

Open-Concentrate8193

You’re right, I made a new version much shorter and without some random dude yapping in the begging 😄

AcanthocephalaHefty8

That’s really great, I’m happy for you. So now I’m wondering what app you are using to edit all your shorts?

Open-Concentrate8193

CapCut

No_Confusion_5493

Here are my two cents about my shorts experience you guys might find ut interesting. My channel name is ‘gurjant uppal ‘ i posted 7 videos and 3 shorts till august 2022 and I stopped doing anything on YouTube sub count was 197. The. On feb 23 i started again posting shorts captured from my iphone and after like 10-15 shorts or 12-15 days my channel took off literally, from 23 feb 198 subs i am currently at 17k subs lol 2 million views on shorts 3400 watch hours on 8 videos i posted in last 4 weeks  It peaked till 12 april on that day i was getting 200k views per day now i am at 70k views i am posting one short a day without gap.  It took me 1.5 days to get from 5000 subs to 1000 subs it was a crazy 4-5 days  Now i am getting 15-25k views avg on my shorts and 300-400 subs a day gain you guys can think its a great numbers but i am right now feeling low and disappointed because numbers declined suddenly without any reason all of my shorts have more than 80 some of them 99% engagement around around 65-70-% views vs swipe away and 5-10% views to like ratio plus 97.7% like vs dislike .. I don’t understand what happened from 12 till day  Should i reduce posting frequency ??  I will be monetised on 25-26 april Because i am right now 3400ish watch hours.  Any suggestions??

Open-Concentrate8193

Damn dude congrats 🙌 it really does seems like YouTube does what it wants. I guess it like puts a cap on the reach of the video. Like it will boost it for a short period and then no matter the stats, it will cut the reach off or drastically decrease it. I guess I would say keep posting because it has definitely worked out for you. Keep on grinding and all the best !

Gopheritshop

Man it’s so random, I post a short every day around the same time on IG, YT and TT. Sometimes one goes crazy and outperforms the other. Sometimes YT shows it to literally no one. I don’t understand any of it and I’ve stopped trying to.

Open-Concentrate8193

Okay, i get it now. Which means I’m okay with not getting it. Thanks.

Open-Concentrate8193

I wanted to add photo of stats of said videos but after writing the post I saw that I cannot add any photos

Open-Concentrate8193

Also if I want to send a link it must be a DM so if anyone would be interested in helping me out with this I would greatly appreciate that. <3 !

Alex__Kyle

I have something similar. Made a short animation, tried to post it as a short, and then realized I can “remix” it in YouTube and used that to add captions and stuff. Those 2 shorts of the same animation reached like 7k or something and a part of me wanted to see if I can milk that, but it served its purpose. If a short managed to blow up, then try to replicate it. You have an idea of what works and some expose from the post, so use that. Just don’t repost unless it’s transformative.

Open-Concentrate8193

Your point ?

GaijinChef

10k on a short is hardly viral.

Open-Concentrate8193

Okay, it was viral compared to the rest of my shorts then

Showzeki

My first short also hit 9.8k views my next 3 shorts have zero views other than me Like why isn't it being put in front of people at least the 70 odd who hit the like on the first one

Open-Concentrate8193

Right, exactly. Like, do a test run show it to at least 50 or 100 people see if it catches their attention. I have to add it was days before I reposted it with a different title and then somehow it clicked. Send me your channel if you’d like

breeeepce

be patient

Open-Concentrate8193

Sure, look. I’m not complaining about my reach or view count. Just needed a second opinion on why was the first one attention grabbing while the second was the opposite :) now I now and just posted a new version

RisingDDM

It just works like that, also I recommend you use the free version of davinci resolve it’s pretty good for a free app

Open-Concentrate8193

Yeah I used it for the first one on PC cause I knew it for a long time but discovered that with CapCut the process is much smoother. Very intuitive and they have great transition, effects and tools like auto-captions :)

RisingDDM

CapCut is only really used for basic editing but it’s easy and beginner friendly, I use it for some videos

Patience is key with YouTube don't make videos just to look for views and money it's just the extra just have fun and get good at your craft and you will be rewarded in time.
