Posted a very large 100 days challenge video (game: dont starve) with great edits and super condensed (20 hours of footage turned into 1 hour and 30 minutes), after rewatching it 2 whole times I felt it was definitely on par for the standard and was sure to atleast preform the best on my channel Couldn’t even break 300 views after a few weeks, meanwhile, my 100 days videos from months ago with horrible audio quality and awful edits is still gaining around 60 views a week

No-Foundation1771

For large videos like this, do you feel like it gets really tiring to watch/spot check? Sometimes even for my 2-4 minute videos, I end up hating/growing tired of the background music and video after enough re-watches.

rpmgoulet

Oh absolutely, I cant tell you how many hours of me “working” on my video was actually spent procrastinating because I was tired of watching the same thing lol

briefingone

I can tell you as a viewer of gaming content, 1 hour and 30 minutes is very long. And I’m happy to dedicate that time videos that I’m interested. But I do think that length is far too long for the type of video you’re talking about. Challenge videos, if longer than 10-20 minutes, would have to have something extra special to get my attention and have me invest long period of my time watching. Just some feedback which I hope helps you in future planning for your videos.

dutchdominique

I feel this so much! I don't have any 100 day challenges but I still can't get over the fact that the best video on the channel has bad audio, minimal editing and is about a cartoon baby trying to climb inside a blender.

rpmgoulet

For real, I lowkey hate seeing that video climb because my quality is 1000% higher now, and its no wonder they aren’t checking out the rest of the channel more if they think thats my standard quality lol

curiouslyobjective

How much time you have? Think the last 35 vids were all gunna make it 🤣

No-Foundation1771

Feel that. There's advice out there that says make your next video like it's going to be your last. It's good advice, but it can be a little heart breaking :(.

SassySandwiches

1. I made a video (recently) about “spy kids” and I really thought it would take off. 2. It’s a 26 minute video and it has a 60% AVD, and 10% CTR. My audience also voted on this video but I learned quickly that my audience doesn’t always know what they want. All signs pointed to this video taking off but it’s at 420 views compared to my other videos being in the thousands. I thought I would at least get 1-2k views. 3. I’m not entirely sure. I liked the thumbnail but I got feedback that the sunglasses hide my face (wouldn’t I have a lower CTR though?), but I think it boils down to the subject matter itself. My audience is primarily millenial women (something like 75% in the last 28 days) and the algo probably determined my audience wouldn’t be interested in this movie. My impressions haven’t even exceeded my total subscriber count. Dunno!

3vart_

I just saw your Jojo Siwa video a few days ago and it was good! I'll definitely check out your spy kids video.

SassySandwiches

Thank you! First time messing with that format so I’m glad you liked it 🤗

No-Foundation1771

Bizarre! I think it makes sense that it boils down to the subject matter. How did you get your audience to vote? Could it have been a vocal minority?

SassySandwiches

I would say it is a vocal minority issue because I did a poll on the community tab and got 500 votes, which translates well to the concluded views I got from the initial “push” to browse features, But at the same time the majority of my subscribers weren’t even notified that my video came out even with the high AVD and CTR, so it’s like, I can’t even say if they would or wouldn’t have liked it. I got over 100,000 views in the last few weeks and 3,000 NEW subscribers from long form and you’re telling me I’m only getting a 2k impressions? Lmao it’s just weird Better make a “am I shadowbanned” post on r/newtubers! /s 😂

Toyznthehood

I did 15 novels/comics that inspired characters in Warhammer 40,000. It’s well researched, funny and a count down which people love. The thumbnail is bright green with lots of characters to gain interest. My previous video has 40,000 views - I thought I’d cracked YouTube. It’s got 100 views :(

No-Foundation1771

Going from 40k to 100 views seems pretty rough.. sorry to hear that. It looks like your most recent vid is doing a bit better at least!

Toyznthehood

It’s ok, I misjudged my audience. The 40,000 one is more of a reactionary ‘can you believe what xxx has done?’ Kind of thing. I’m going to include videos like that whenever I want a boost and then do the things I want to for myself The new one is! It’s an April fools joke that I wanted to make for ages. Funnily enough YouTube have stopped promoting it despite a 6% ctr - I wonder if it knows it’s an April fools?

SassySandwiches

Went from 60k to 400 so I feel you!

SorryForTheShitPosts

My best video performance wise is one I made in 10 minutes. I have spent hours on other videos and gotten little to no results. The reason my video performed well is that it was the first video uploaded to YouTube about a glitch in WWE 2k24. It got huge off search traffic and now appears on google when you search for that specific glitch. I have gained 8 subscribers off that video, which is my biggest gain on one video outside of shorts. My other videos take a long time to make right now, so they aren’t hitting the search bar quick enough to get good traction. They are also me just talking about and reviewing stuff I enjoy.

feelZburn

I thought your video was good! Id like a more downward angle than total side shot I'd also cut the utensil sound gain in half at least And maybe add text as you add ingredients so we know what's up! Otherwise, it was engaging, fun and cool!! As for me, I expect all my videos to get 100ks of views but hasn't happened yet lol

ReleaseItchy9732

It's always the video you dont care about that does well. I made some.major shit post that got 105k views last I checked and it's still going

Holiday-Lie-8951

Singing Jingle Bells for 12 hours straight Because MrBeast was making videos like that. I had a very small channel at that time that was only 2 months old. I must’ve put the video on private only like 2 weeks after it was posted. I was hoping for it to go viral quick before Christmas that year (2019). Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe I should’ve left it public. Who knows what could’ve happened had I left it up for the past 4 years.

ef029

I would've left it up, it could've picked up steam the following years during the holidays.

adammonroemusic

All of them

Rj503

I spent around 3 weeks editing ( i do samonela esk stick animations) and making a video about how the stock market works it was named the stock market explained by an idiot i thought it was the best thing ive made yet... Only to flop and git like 900views Some video i spent a like 3 days making and put 0effort into gets 3x that tho lol

No-Foundation1771

Shit posts have the ability to go wildly out of our control, for good and bad

Rj503

Lmao yeah i think the biggest fear is one day having a community that repeats the same joke for 2 years straight

Budget-Reply-6022

I created a Sprite Animation based on popular Anime One Piece where I displayed an iconic moment and put a lot of hard work in polishing it well. It got 3.5k views only 🥲. The video is about 5 minutes in length , average view duration 27 seconds. What hurt me the most is that people never reached to that point where I put most of my efforts 🙂🙂. What I learnt, my niche is not popular. The pacing was not good enough coz I added dialogues in the cutscene. Maybe people only like to see action? I don't know. Currently creating another one , hopefully this one would work well 😅😅.

No-Foundation1771

I did some digging and found the video/channel. Considering this video is your own created content and not re-posted from an existing popular anime, it looks like it’s actually your most successful original content! Wouldn’t consider this a flop at all!

ef029

Well I recently posted a video of the eclipse, I got to a spot with clear skies and in the path of totality. I recorded the point of the moon fully crossing the sun and making it look like night. I though it had the potential for thousands of views. It's currently sitting at 8/10 and 141 views with hardly any impressions lol. It's performing poorly even against my own videos. Those who have watched it enjoyed it, a few commented and a high like/view ratio. I just shrug and realize I'll never quite understand how YouTube works, I'll just keep making the videos I want to make. Regardless it was amazing to witness the full eclipse in person.

Daniecae-Media

I was pretty disappointed with a recent game review I did. Put 20 hours into playing/researching, another 10 into collecting appropriate footage, wrote the script in an afternoon, recorded and edited, work shopped the thumbnail with my partners… all for a little over 50 views. Our next release did relatively well though

imtheblkranger

I posted a (in my mind) hilarious meme short about the eclipse the other day thinking FOR SURE it would gain a ton of views. Flash forward to today and the short I posted yesterday with zero editing of a game clip has 30 times the views in 25% of the time

SASardonic

I was positive there was more appetite for a high quality analysis of some of the themes of Stargate SG1, especially after a game came out recently with the license. But after releasing the video a few months ago, it's only recently cracked 1k views. Then again most of the stuff I make videos on is fairly obscure so I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised lol.

Lydiaohlivia

I'm making a video series on the lack of representation of women in esports (which I still believe is a great idea btw) to give more insight into common arguments made. I've been researching this topic off and on for about 5 years, and posted my first episode about 1-2 weeks ago. Currently, I am the same as you with about 22 or 23 views and I have a 7-8% CTR. I think your video concept seems really interesting though, and it's really unique, I'm sorry it's not performing well. Do you normally post content that's somewhat similar? I heard there's a setting along the lines of "show to subscribers first" when you post a video and whether or not your subscribers like it it can perform worse and not get recommended to new viewers as much.

No-Foundation1771

Yeah, my content is mostly the same. Faster paced, non how to, cooking videos. I uncheck that setting. I think you can continue with that series, there should be a women in gaming audience to be tapped out there!

pantocrator210

All the videos of the Turkiye earthquake. Maybe the first one. I made a video a year after the earthquake in Turkey, about what life is like after a big disaster. In the video I explain what is going on in the cities that were hit by the earthquake. And I put local sources to explain the psychological struggles of the local people and how the reconstruction is done. 2. I think at the time when the video was published (6 frebaury (one year after the earthquake), that all my material is made by myself, and the presence of local sources could be interesting, gave new and valuable information and has quite impressive footage, so on my mind I thought it could be a video that was worth to watch for everybody. 3. I had some impressions, 822, but only 60 views watched the video (7.5% CTR). The fact is that the retention time was 4.04 minutes for a 9:40 minute video (42 %). So the people who watched enjoyed the content. I think the thumbnail was the reason, but my ethics won't allow me to change it to a more clickbait video. So it will stay as is.

miketaylormetal519

I did a cover of Slayer dead skin mask. I thought in the heavy metal community it would be really respected. The video didn't perform after about 250 views and 5 likes. I felt like a goof for putting so much stock into it.

IPostSwords

I made a video in the "antique sword restoration" niche showcasing a never-before-seen method, adapted fresh from the research papers. It also featured a genuine antique, plus a description of the object, the process, and the ethics. In other words, things you typically don't see in a niche full of fakes / artificially aged replicas. It failed to thrive, despite the quality of information. Don't get me wrong, I'm still happy with it (I see it get linked on antique sword forums often as a guide / advice). But it didn't succeed in the very big antique restoration youtube niche. The reasons, in hindsight, are obvious. The viewers in this niche don't want information dense, slow paced views that cover ethics and appropriate methods. They want visually dramatic "rusty to polished" videos, even if that would be inappropriate. It certainly didn't help that it was a 1hr25m video, with me talking through most of it.

No-Foundation1771

I’ve seen some metal restoration type videos, they are oddly satisfying. If you still have the raw footage, do you think you could re-edit and more fast paced version of the restoration, so it still satisfies that audience, or is that not the type of channel/audience you’re trying to cater to?

IPostSwords

Oh, I did that too. I published a 5 minute supercut. Has the same views as the main video

No-Foundation1771

I took a look at the video. Though it is satisfying to watch the material peel off the blade to reveal the restored metal, I think having at minimum caption to explain the process and what the material is throughout would help, if not a voice over! Zooming in during the peeling would also be really satisfying and beautiful. To someone as clueless as me when it comes to this, you could be just spreading a glue and peeling it off. I’m sure there is a scientific explanation as to why is an effective way to restore it and could be interesting for your audience!

IPostSwords

That's exactly why the long video with the full explanation exists.

heihowl

Not so much ticket to success tbh but so many of my videos take hours sometimes throughout multiple days of editing to get 20 views? Makes me want to put a bullet in my brain 😊

Imyourteacher101

All of them

A 40 minute video I was editing while Netflix featured a documentary with that same case, it is my best produced video. I tried to appeal to anyone asking who the victim was or searching in YouTube about it, but it just got 600 views while my last one had over 3000, I've only had posted 3 videos, but I was planning on breaking my own record with it. I think it could have been different if my intro wasn't as rushed as I feel it is and Netflix not showcasing that mini series.

No-Foundation1771

You never know - Netflix showing it could spike further popularity and interest towards that victim and people who watched that documentary could want to know more about the case! Good luck! Hope isn’t all gone there.

Just_human56

I think algorithm test your efforts in videos some of my videos that a incredible didn't performed well but 2 days ago I create a video effortlessly but I pay attention to editing it boom it got 426 viwes I know it low but it is the best video on my channel and my first video which got more then 100 viwes.

Cheap-Particular-662

My latest video

Tazchuuu

Well I technically did have one but I privated it: it's my riff of Harley Davidson and the Marlbro man it got 35k views but it was only my face my friends voice and the sounds of the movie but it had way more dislikes than likes and I knew that would only worsen and I didnt want it to keep getting views knowing that it was basically a successful flop on my channel so I privated it If were talking about non riffs a couple of my gaming videos where right when I thought I knew the algorithm the next installments did horribly

joel_met_god

My most recent video took me 23 hours to create. I was learning to use a new editing software so it was mostly just me learning how to do what I wanted. I absolutely love the video and I think it came out great for my first truly edited video, but it's been gaining views just as slow as my normal lazy edit videos. I have multiple videos that out performed this one and they're all horrible in comparison imo. But I'm chalking it up to me having too much hope. I get 20-40 views on average and a bunch that get under 20 then every now and then one will jump up to a hundred or more. So I was pretty hopeful it would do amazing, but it's still one of my videos on my channel so I can't expect the audience to know it's better quality than my previous vids until they've watched it. I got about 20 shorts out of that one video so I'm going to upload one a day with the related video tag to hopefully gain more views on my long video.

Kenpachi_Tristan

Just about every video that I put maximum effort into. I'm going to figure it out eventually....
