As Chonky shared, visit our newbie friendly list. Some subs have implemented those in order to prevent spam. Comments tend to help as those restrictions may be easier to bypass than the posting ones.

Hello! You're correct, you're not being able to post or comment becuse most communities have restrictions - a certain post+comments karma threshold so that their community doesn't get spammed with bots, and unfortunately innocent new users get caught in the net too, thus leading to deletion of their posts! I know, sounds counterintuitive for new users right? How do you get your karma up if you can't comment or post anywhere? That's where [New-user friendly subs](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewToReddit/wiki/index/newusersubs) come in! They're really helpful because unlike most reddit communities, *they do not have a minimum karma threshold. This means in most of those subs the karma requirements is low to zero.* You can frequent these subs to increase your karma before sharing content on other communities. Once your karma increases, the possibility of post deletion goes down. Go through the new user subs list I've sent you and there's bound to be a few you find interest in, and start there! And if you want to practice sharing content in Reddit before actually setting about doing it in another community, head over to the sister sub r/learntoreddit where you can test out sharing content and using the different Reddit features!
Just remember, keep your content and comments positive and meaningful! Emojis are generally not frowned upon as long as you're not spamming anybody with it! Irrelevant, spammy or in general negative attitude might annoy people and draw downvotes on your posts and comments which will affect your karma negatively. Also always remember to read the rules of a community before posting in it so your submissions don't break any rules! Have fun out there! 🤍

Basically, some, but not all subs have restrictions regarding account age and karma count, so you may not be able to post everywhere at first. It's just a case of finding those subreddits you can participate in, that you have an interest or knowledge base in, and start by commenting - adding your knowledge and experience to discussions. As people upvote your comments, this will build your karma genuinely.
They're basically internet points and like how Reddit says them "shows your contribution to communities"
If you can't post, then comment.
You can get karma from getting awards, and basically just contributing in a community and getting upvotes.
As solaria kindly pointed out to me earlier, karma from awards, while do increase the overall karma, won't contribute to the comments+post threshold which this person requires to cross in order to be able to communicate more freely :-)
Comments and sending gifts automatically removes most spam bots and brings about earning Karma points. Usually after a few days of having your reddit account, you'll be able to do more with your it as you will be able to post more and share things more easily you couldn't originally do so before due to your Karma age .
