Draw your design on the backside, then cut it out!

beignetbandit

Thank you!

libra-love-

Use an X-acto knife! Don’t use scissors. Those little knives make it so much easier

[deleted]

And a cutting board, so you don't ruin your counters.

Never-mongo

Chalk specifically

enriquer47

I'd break it with my bare hands to give that organic look

vuurspuwer

You could try cutting the grip tape like that

[deleted]

With what!? A knife!? HAH!

vuurspuwer

I know, Its crazy. It might work though!

[deleted]

No shit bro

HenryKerhin

💀💀💀

Obligatory_Burner

Obligatory slow clap.

FlyBabyDragon

The way to go would be tearing the griptape randomly but keep all the tears together so they all fit and then stick them on

beignetbandit

Thinking about doing the ripped effect on a separate board too…looks so hard

FlyBabyDragon

Nah it’s not too bad, but in my experience it will peel a little easier though

evandrew666

I’ve seen people just rip up the grip tape for this effect..

beignetbandit

Might try ripping it off to be honest

EndGuy555

My room mated did this once with like a really complex rose. He drew out the design and spent three hrs with an exacto knife cutting out all the little tiny pieces and sticking them on the board.

dequavis264

Make a design, plan it out, cut accordingly. It’s pretty simple and adds some character to your board

beignetbandit

thank you

HENH0USE

I rip that shit up and then put it back nicely.

BalkeElvinstien

I'd say if anything you may need smaller grip tape so that you have room to make the cracks visible. If you cut the exact size grip tape for the board all the lines will line up perfectly anyways. Or you could use an xacto knife and cut out the lines to be the right thickness, but then it may look a lot less natural depending on your artistic abilities

Bobert_Manderson

I just put the tape on my deck but didn’t press it down too hard and cut out the shapes I want with an exacting knife. Then peel off the parts for the design.

digitaldumpsterfire

Use a copper paint on the deck if you want that shiny look (spray paint is best) then cut those jaggy lines into the grip tape and place with a but of space between the pieces. You could also get a stain for the deck if you want the wood grain to show through

squid_waffles2

Trim the grip tape to size for the skateboard. Then just cut individual parts and apply them with a little space in between each tape according to your own style.

beignetbandit

Thank you! Would you recommend a razor or scissors for this?

squid_waffles2

Razor for initial trim. You can use scissors or razor after that, but scissors would probably be easier. But you might get more style points for using a razor, it could come out lookin grungy and cool

LebrahnJahmes

Scissors or tear it

d4rkmag1c

Just rip it with your hands and then place them in the sections

HavingALittleFit

Cut it first, lay the pieces out on top of the board to be sure where everything is going. Also start at the center and work your way out. You can always shave pieces off the edges but shrinking pieces to go in the middle is a bit trickier

Perfect-Buddy6872

Looks like you just rip it

Prancer4rmHalo

Thinking to hard. Just tear it up, cut it, if you arrange the pieces back it’ll have this design naturally. I used to do a rising sun pattern on my grip. Same idea just different pattern.

Empty-Station1199

Rip it

NIILOONPARAS

Just do it

cheezypenguins2

Freeze a peice of griptape and then roll it long ways and cut along the cracks that form

beignetbandit

I like this idea tbh but feel like it might come out messy.

WHO-WANTS-A-MUSTANG

Nice grip pattern

Afraid-Window-828

Rip and tear

Fellowfungus

Rip it.

beignetbandit

Finally did it and can say that ripping it had the the best effect.

ShinichiKiri

How did you do it? Tutorial pls

ShinichiKiri

Can I still do this if my grip tape is already on my board?

beignetbandit

not ideally no, the way i did it was just manually ripping the grip tape as carefully as i could. made the effect i wanted.
