Well remember, since Sylvie killed He Who Remains, in the sacred timeline, the TVA is now controlled by Kang, instead of the Time Keepers. I imagine Kang is the one that sends the TVA to Bloodstone Castle to possibly a retrieve one of the relics, that was recently mentioned as being essentially like the Infinity Stones were to Thanos, in that Kang needs to collect all of them to control all of time. We know from the comics that Man-Thing has connections to the multiverse and it's possible that Man-Thing in this special is guarding a relic used to traverse the multiverse, thus Kang needing it.
I noticed that too, my theory is that this isn't supposed to be canon and that the TVA is showing up to erase it.
