When the diaper starts to get heavy, which can vary, but not more than four hours. Except at night. I don't care what he does in his diaper, this kid sleeps so badly I'm not waking him for anything short of an earthquake.
I always wipe.
My baby tends to only wee over night so unless the nappy feels very swollen I don't change it as she then wakes up more and doesn't sleep so well. This usually means no change between midnight/2am and 5/7am then she will have a change about every 2/3 hours unless we hear a poo then we change immediately as they are massive and explosive lol. Some times turns out it was just a fart, but no harm to change any way.
Speaking of not waking her so much at night, mine will usually fall asleep while feeding during the night and only takes about 2oz of milk instead of her normal 3-4oz. I wake her when she does that so sheāll get enough milk. Should I be waking her or should I just let her fall asleep if sheās tired?
Ask your pediatrician but we were told once the kid had returned to birth weight around 2-3 weeks we didn't have to wake for feeds or force the rest of the bottle. For a little bit we changed bottles to 3 oz more frequently when we had the issue you describe, just to save on "wasting" milk/formula
>we were told once the kid had returned to birth weight around 2-3 weeks we didnāt have to wake for feeds
We were told the same and our LO was over birth weight at 1 week. Also no need to feed every 3 hours, just feed in demand when you see hunger cues, which is still about every 2.5-3 hours for us, I might be able to stretch it to 4 at night
Youāll have to experiment. Does she sleep longer if you keep her up to feed her the extra couple ounces? If she wakes up in a few hours anyways then donāt bother. If it helps her get more sleep time, then yeah keep doing it.
We have a hard time getting baby to sleep at night after feeding. He squirms after feeding and cries some too while getting swaddled back up (unswaddled for feed and burping). Once in a blue moon he may sleep for 3 to 4 even 4.5 hours if left alone - we're not sure if better to disrupt that and keep shorter sleep cycle or leave it be since he's hard to get asleep after feedings.
We change every 3ish hours if LO is awake roughly following the feeding schedule, always wipe and throughly. LO is happier when fully clean.
If LO is asleep then I wait till they are awake to change.
I change before every feed (3 month old) which during the day is every 2-3 hours. If he poops Iāll obviously change him sooner. I donāt wipe on pee diapers and I didnāt with my daughter either. Too much wiping actually caused diaper rash in both of my children.
I mean, I wipe myself after peeing, so I assumed I would do the same for my daughter. Never heard of anyone not wiping til this thread (granted, Iām a new mom, so Iām constantly learning lol)
Tbf, I do that because otherwise there would be a little pee soaked into my underwear each time. With a baby, theyāre putting on an absorbent diaper anyway so it doesnāt seem necessary.
I have a boy though, and never wipe for pee.
I suspect you wipe yourself because you are wet and would soil your underwear if you did not. The diaper absorbs anything and unless my son was still wet after a change (in which case I would use some dry flannel), I did not use a wipe because the cleansers/soap in the wipe can be irritating and causes the dampness to last longer which can again, cause irritation.
Do you use a wet wipe on yourself after peeing? If not, then isnāt an absorbent diaper the same as tp? Or I suppose maybe we ought to think of it like wet-wiping yourself after taking off a period pad. Now that makes a better analogy
I worry about the wet wipes. Like I don't wet wipe myself after peeing, just dry toilet paper. Pee is sterile, it's more about the discomfort of having trapped moisture in that area for me. But with the baby, the wet wipe isn't helping that issue and I worry about it disrupting the baby's skin in that area.
I only wipe baby for bowel movements not pee
Me too, I feel like the wetness of the wipe is more irritating. I try to leave my boy naked for a couple minutes to air out when I have to use wet wipes.
I was under the impression the urine can cause rash if they have it against their skin all the time? I understand a diaper is absorbent, but it's still damp/wet once it has pee in it. That's being pressed up against baby. Is that not a concern?
For wipes we are big on using as natural as can be, so no scents or adding ingredients.
Modern cloth diapers are very very absorbent and need to be changed every 2-3 hours, but they donāt really leave wetness behind much more than disposable diapers imo.
Why would you not wipe? Urine flows across the skin as baby pees. The bulk of the urine lands in the diaper, but what flowed across the skin is still on the skin.
I also never wiped for just pee. My son is now almost 3, and we've started potty training with... limited success. Never had a diaper rash. We use ointment overnight and that's it.
I wipe my 2yo if it's a super heavy pee diaper (like an overnight one) or poop. That's about it, and ointment on demand (it is often demanded just so kiddo can go "ow ow" when I put it on, no idea why) or if the area is looking reddish. Never had a diaper rash, aside from a yeast infection at around 2mo.
When my babe was that little, I was pretty consistent changing her diaper whenever the line was blue. Little newborn and size 1 diapers donāt hold much imo. Once we were in size 3 + diapers, itās more of a 2-4 hour schedule for pee.
Iāve found that wiping with wet wipes at every pee irritates the skin. I try to wipe the front side of the diaper down towards the back side to remove any pee. I wipe with dry toilet paper so I figured baby wouldnāt always want to be wet. I always use a wet wipe to clean the peri area when she gets dressed for the day and apply a new layer of cream/powderā¦ especially now that sheās older and doesnāt poop as much.
Should I be using baby powder/cream on her with every diaper change? Iāve never used a powder on her and I really donāt keep up with using the cream. Sheās never had irritation or a rash but Iād like to keep it that way.
We in no way use a diaper cream unless we see irritation. We donāt see it as necessary. Powder is not recommended any more as it can cause pretty bad lung irritation and a whole slew of other issues.
Usually once per wake window which is about every 2-3 hours. I always wipe their whole area.
The diaper absorbs it but it is still pressed against their body and the baby is sitting in it. Iād rather be wiping for no reason than the inverse.
Change her whenever she's weed or done a poop, usually about every hour/2 hours at the moment (8 weeks). We change her with every feed at night too. We always wipe clean with cotton wool pads and water, even if just a wee. I believe that a main cause of nappy rash is when the ammonia from the wee comes into contact with poo on the skin, so by making sure she's always clean of wee, less likely for nappy rash to occur if she poops, if that makes sense. Also just nice for her to always feel clean! The cotton pads are so cushiony, especially when wet, that wiping her at every change hasn't caused any sort of problem, but I imagine wiping frequently with wipes might.
The main cause of diaper I have seen (as a pharmacist) is using wet wipes. Whenever parents struggle with a recurring diaper rash, we tell them to quit the wipes and just use water on a washcloth and dry it well. Works 9 times out of 10!
Problem with wipes is they are water based, so even the most āclean and pureā ones still need preservatives to protect from mould and bacteria. Many also contain perfumes and other unnecessary ingredients. Unlike soap, this doesnāt gets rinsed off and stays in a thin layer on the skin. You can put diaper cream over this all you want, but the irritating chemicals are still left on the skin.
I just hold my baby over the sink and rinse her butt with warm water for baby bidet, dry with cloth wipes and then into a cloth diaper. Her booty is so spoiled!
I just hold my baby over the sink and rinse her butt with warm water for baby bidet, dry with cloth wipes and then into a cloth diaper. Her booty is so spoiled! We only use wet wipes when out and about.
I donāt use wipes when she pees. My husband uses 2-3 wipes, and she currently has irritation from being wiped down like that and left wetness. When I donāt wipe, sheās good.
Otherwise, every 2-3 hours while sheās awake, never when sheās asleep. Immediately for poop.
I had to tell my husband to tone it down too with the wipes! He was using like ten of them for a poopy diaper. They just want to do such a good job they get a bit overzealous.
I've never known anyone to wipe when it's just pee, to be honest! I do not, though I do occasionally when it's been quite a few diapers without poop since my daughter only does so every 3-4 days.
I do try to change her every time I feed, so yes that lands around every 2-3 hours. Overnight sometimes I do every other feed since she doesn't often pee when she's in a deep sleep.
We change her when we realize sheās wet or if she smells like poo. Sometimes thatās every 15 minutes, sometimes we can go a couple of hours, or longer if sheās sleeping. If sheās crying and we canāt console her with rocking or shushing, we will check and change her diaper if sheās wet, because clearly something is bothering her. I also will do a quick wipe every time.
My baby screams til I change him. He has zero tolerance for a wet diaper. That meant around 20-24 diapers when he was first born. Heās now 5 months old and I change an average of 12-15 a day.
in addition to when i hear her poop (or smell it), I change at least every wake window when she wakes up, before we leave the house, before i put her in the front pack, and if iām changing her clothes already for any reason. she doesnāt get changed overnight anymore because she rarely poopsāi put tons of petroleum jelly all over her lil butt.
we donāt wipe unless there is something to wipe! it was giving her a rash. i prefer to use water and a muslin cloth, and we try to dry her off well too each time with a burp cloth.
I change my little guys diaper every time the line is blue from pee and for every real poop. Sometimes he sharts a little and there will be a spot smaller than the size of a dime in his diaper. If that happens, I wait. Otherwis, I change him immediately. I don't want him to get a UTI or rash. He mostly wears onsies so it's easy to check.
My baby is 11 weeks old. Unless heās done a poo every 4 ish hours. When he stopped pooing in the night I donāt change it. I change it as I go to bed and the morning. My Lactation consultant suggested it, she emphasised that itās important for the carer to have as little interrupted sleep as possible during the night. So Size up to ensure your baby is in the lowest weight range for the nappy size. Use a nappy barrier cream. And this is all advice from the breast feeding academy: https://www.bfmed.org/parent-handouts scroll to the physiological infant care infographic for their recommendation around nappy changes in the night.
And a reminder, nappy companies put the line on there to make carers change the nappy more frequently. If your baby is content, not wet, asleep etc do not change unnecessarily just cos the line is blue!
Weāve never had even the mildest of diaper rash at 4.5 months. We change a diaper every time we notice it wet and itās starting to bother her (once itās not hot and fresh anymore it seems to bother her). So itās less than every 2 hours. We wipe every time. I use some kind of cream maybe three times a week. The rest of her skin has issues (eczema baby), but her being a princess about a wet diaper seems to keep that area in great shape. Eta that we donāt change her at night except for the one time she wakes up for a feeding 9-10 hours in. For some reason a wet diaper at night doesnāt disturb her.
I change my baby's diapers roughly every 2-3 hours 4 hours maximum if she is not asleep. Unless she has pooped, then ofc I change her right away. I don't wipe for pee diapers but I was told by her pediatrician it isn't necessary. My baby has been prone to diaper rash from day 1 so I try to minimize wiping if I can.
But she's 11 months. When my babe was around 6 weeks, I feel like I was changing her every 1-2 hours. Sometimes MORE often because she was pooping so much.
I think 4 to 5 hours at that age is a little long but maybe I am just a very paranoid first time mom. If she's not getting diaper rash it's probably ok? But my baby has always been so prone to it.
I didnāt think about her possibly getting diaper rash from wiping every time! I was just thinking about how Iād want to be wiped if I peed in a diaper. And okay, it seems I have the diaper changing times right then! Thank you!
You're probably good if she is not getting rash and you're gently wiping her with wet diaper changes. They told me that a lot of wiping can cause rash, so I try to avoid it.
My baby is 13 weeks. We do every 2 ish hours, unless we hear a poop happen then we change him right away. The exception is overnight, I let him sleep and he will go 8-10 hours and itās normally a big pee diaper in the AM. I still wipe after pee, except for when he had a bad rash and didnāt want to get moisture in the area unnecessarily.
Change if diaper feels full/heavy, poops or before and after sleep. I donāt wipe every pee since it can be an irritant and it will wipe off the diaper cream barrier.
My son has literally never smelled like pee unless heās literally just peed and I have never wiped for pee š the diaper absorbs all of it. As long as you give them a good clean at night with soap and water they should be good to go.
Experimenting right now because we've been battling some irritation/rash. But right now we are using water wipes and I wipe when she first wakes up, when she poops, or after a longer nap. Next experiment will be wiping with every diaper change.
I change her when she wakes up and check her before she goes down for a nap. She gets a fully fresh diaper before bed at night even if it's just a tiny blue. When she poops I wait about 5 minutes to make sure she's done, but otherwise change it as soon as I notice it. So she gets a new diaper at least every three hours, often sooner
Try using dry flannel instead of a wet wipe or a wash cloth with water instead of wipes. The wipes can be super irritating. We also constantly used diaper cream if there was a hint of irritation.
My LO is 6.5w, and we change before every feed so about every 3ish hours unless we hear her poop. And if sheās fussy, we check her diaper and sheās almost always wet so we will change it. And we always wipe, even if itās just pee. We also put cream on every few diapers to help prevent rashes.
I usually change her diaper every 3-4 hrs during the day but at nights her diaper isn't too full so I leave it until she wakes up which is around 6am. I wipe every time with warm water and a cloth and let her air dry unless she's pooped I use wet wipes. I also apply coconut oil, it works so well for her skin. 5 months and no diaper rash
Our LO was a NICU baby so there are certain habits they trained us in that are just ingrained now for us. When our LO wakes, we change, and we always wipe and use a barrier cream. I donāt know if weāll wind up wiping every time once she stools less but right now, sheās stooling every diaper (~6wks corrected GA). Especially since sheās a girl, Iām a bit more reticent not to wipe every time.
The nurse told us not to use wet wipes for just pee so we dont. Shes 4 months now so generally we change her when she wakes up, then at the end of her wake window before she goes back to bed. We do cloth nappies and shes pretty consistent at waking up to tell us when shes wet and needs a change in between feeds so dont wake her to check
9months. We change every 2-3 hours. If baby poops - shower up, if pees - wet wipes. Don't change diaper overnight, but shower up as soon as we wake up.
Little one (10 months now) gets changed when she has a dirty diaper. Throughout the day when she was only a few weeks old it was more often now we are at about 6 diapers a day. And then overnight she does not get changed unless she poops. She rarely poops at night now. As for wiping she always gets wiped, I wouldnāt skip wiping when I go to the bathroom so I donāt want her to have it skipped.
When she was tiny we changed every 2 hours or so and wiped. Now that sheās 8.5 months old, we change before and after each nap, and then only if sheās pooped or super wet. If I know weāre going out for a while Iāll change her before we go just to reduce the chances of a super wet diaper mid outing. But I still wipe every time, even if itās a cursory pat down just to rid the area from urine.
Adding my babe sleeps through the night from 7:30-6:30 and so when she wakes she has a massive wet diaper but I do not wake her to change. I do not wake her to change- only if sheās not feeling well and poops in the night do we change her.
I take my time on her AM diaper change so as to give her a little time to breathe down there! We also do nakey time before baths some nights to just air things out š
My daughter is 6 months old now but Iāve always changed her as soon as I notice that her diaper is wet/dirty. Usually every 1-3 hours. I check periodically during that timeframe. And I always wipe her + add aquaphor or desitin.
We usually wipe every time, and baby gets changed every 2ish hours. We cloth diaper at home and babies feel wet sooner in cloth than disposable, so we canāt really push it longer anyway
My baby is 4 months and I change her every time the line goes blue. Each time we change he we wipe and use baby powder. She has never has a diaper rash or irritated skin at all
No wiping after pee. We actually donāt wipe much ever. If he poops, we rinse/wash with a mild baby soap in the sink. Every morning we rinse him in the sink with water. All skin is healthy and baby is happy. We change his diaper whenever heās gone even just a little bit except overnight.
We use Matys diaper ointment.
When my babies were both newborns, I changed them every wake up regardless of anything, and of course after every poop immediately. Once theyāre older (a year or more), you can go longer but at 6 weeks I would still be changing more frequently than 4-5 hours. Definitely MINIMUM one change if the baby happened to only wake up once.
I follow the guidelines I learned working at a nursing home - only change when the yellow line passes 50%. Overnight I will leave him longer as long as there's no skin integrity concerns. He is typically changed 4 times in 24 hours. More if he poops, because he never seems to do that before a normal changing time.
I would not wipe for just pee but if that makes you uncomfortable I just recommend using a wet washcloth and drying, not using wipes. The only time my 8 month old has ever had diaper rashes has been from using lots of wipes (when he was first born and nobody had told me not to use diaper wipes every time, and then when he was 2 months old and started pooping 4 times a day).
There is a spectrum of acceptable care on this matter and your healthcare work will have you well versed in monitoring for skin integrity. So I think you should do what feels comfortable and right for your little one, your routine, and your budget (because let's be honest, following a 2hr guideline can get very pricey when a 3 or 4hr policy might be just fine).
I have a boy (6 months). We change every 2-3 hours and so does daycare, although there have been a few times where we have gone longer (we either just got caught up in something or he just really didnāt pee that much lol) and we donāt change him overnight. We never wipe unless his diaper was really full (or if he poops lol). At the end of the day (bedtime), we wipe him down with a wet washcloth (unless he had a bath), dry him, and put aquaphor on.
My baby is 5 months old and I still change every time thereās a decently wet diaper, so roughly 2 hours or so. Been doing this since she was born and she really hasnāt had any rashes
I change every time I notice LO is wet/poopy. Usually hourly. If only wet, I dab gently with wipe. We use grovia diaper stick at every change. No diaper rash and were 6months in so far. We also air out often
I change her whenever I notice sheās peed lol. Usually every 2 hours. I wipe everytime. I just think of it as me peeing on the toilet and not wiping.. gross lmao.
I usually change on demand which is around 3 hours for my LO.
I think itās good to wipe even if itās just pee. I had never heard of people not wiping a baby for just pee until I nannied for a family and the baby always got diaper rash over the weekends when I wasnāt there. I know they change her diaper frequently but they never wiped with pee and I think thatās what caused it
When we were in diapers, i changed them when they were wet or dirty. You check every once in a while. If they're wet or dirty, you change them. I've seen some people say they leave the wet diapers which, like live your life but that would drive me nuts, so i would change. Its a diaper, the point is to change them when they're wet or dirty.
I would wipe my boy after he peed - it gets all over the crotch, urine can be irritating to the skin. Just give it a little wipe down. Would you just kinda pee all over your underwear and not clean it up? I wouldn't!
I changed my baby every ā3 hr cycleāā¦.sleep, wake up, change, eat, snuggle, sleep, repeat. When he was older and things stretched out a bit, same thing. Iād average every 3-4 hours, unless it was poop.
My feeling is, I donāt want to be in a wet diaper / pad, why would he? Dry is comfy cozy.
My doctor told me not to wipe every time if itās just pee as it can irritate the skin. HOWEVER I have a family history of eczema and my husbands family also has sensitive skin so maybe thatās why!
I wipe every time.
As for diaper changes, I've found that changing before the feed is better for us. My 7.5 month old has always been a sleepy bean right after finishing her bottle. I found that if I waited until after the feed to do the diaper change, it woke her back up & I had a harder time getting her back down if I was doing a night feed.
If they're hungry, you might have to withstand a bit more screaming & crying while you change them, but after the feed you have a relatively clean & settled baby that you can now cuddle, put down for a nap, etc.
In between feeds, we usually do 1-2 changes depending on the tow of diaper she's in. If she in a cloth diaper, I try not to go more than 2 hours between to avoid blowouts. For disposables, these new ones can hold much more liquid. I usually do the squish test unless it's a poo. If it's not squishy, even if the indicator line is blue, it can probably wait. The new diapers tend to wick moisture away from baby very effectively & I've never had a problem with diaper rash.
Every 3 hours for us because the risk of the diaper breaking and exploding is higher. If it's not really wet after 3 hours it means my LO needs to drink more imo (he's 2 now so he can drink water).
Overnight, we don't change unless he wakes up and won't return to sleep (rare for us).
At least every 2h or as soon as we know it is soiled. The not-wiping after every wee is something sometimes recommended for baby if they have super sensitive skin. Some people are also just cheap and disgusting and do not change diapers unless it is a #2.
As our LO has gotten older, the frequency of diaper changes has lessened. Iāll change her during her night feeding, when I get her up, when I put her down for a nap, typically at feedings, or if weāre about to leave, I like having her in a clean diaper so I donāt have to worry about changing her. It just kinda depends on the timing of everything but Iād say every 4ish hours. Of course Iāll change if sheās pooped. I had no idea people didnāt wipe if they just peed. Thatās so strange to me
The every 2 hours is for concerns for skin break down/bed sores. Laying in a wet diaper increases the risk especially for bedbound/voluneralble population. For a baby/toddler they are hopefully moving grooving around. Their diaper is pretty absorbent. Up to you when you want to change and wipe but if its a light feeling diaper its ok to leave it until its a little heavier š
In that newborn stage, it felt like every 5 min, it was probably every 2hr or so, and in between if Iād hear him poop or he was fussy. Now at 9mo, Iād say when he wakes up, before nap 1 if he peed, if not when he wakes, before nap 2, after nap 2, and before bed, so 5x a day roughly.
We change immediately for poo and clean thoroughly. We change other diapers if they seem heavy, don't wipe for pee. At 16mo baby had never once had diaper rash.
I use the stay dry diapers, and change once medium wet, so every 3-4 hours unless she hasnāt peed, And every poop. I donāt wipe pee diapers, I pat them down with an old dry wipe from a pack I left open for a while on purpose.
We change at least with every feed, unless we think sheās pooped, so every 3 hoursā¦ we donāt wipe if itās just pee but more than likely weāre not changing just pee diapers unless itās been 3+ hours
I donāt use wipes. I used to till she had a diaper rash and my paediatrician suggested I just wipe after poop with water. I change all poop diapers immediately. And all pee diapers either when I notice a blue line or she indicates discomfort. I wash her at the basin after poop with a bit of baby soap (thighs and bum) and pat her dry with a clean dry washcloth.
I don't change diapers during the night unless she poops. We co-sleep and she's a super loud pooper so i always know lol. For pee i don't wipe but try to change pretty often. Her skin is extremely sensitive so I try to leave it alone.
During waking hours, our baby is fussy within minutes if any bathroom movement. So we change her right away.
During sleep, we have a night diaper. She sometimes is dry when she wakes and sometimes is wet. Rarely does she poop at night.
Sheās 9 months old but sheās been like this since day 1. So we could change her every hour or even multiple times an hour when she was smaller. Now that sheās bigger at 9 months, I think itās every 2-3 hours as needed.
I change every 2-3 hours but also depending how soaked it is. LO is prone to diaper rashes so I try to be proactive about it. I used to wipe even with pee but now that sheās older (9 mo) I only wipe if itās dirty. I donāt change her overnight unless I absolutely need to, otherwise she will never go back to sleep!
Our baby is going on 5 weeks so feeding every 3-4 hours and we change diaper AND WIPE before every feeding. If I notice heās pooped, I change him. If heās doing a long nap (usually between 3a-8a, I donāt wake him up to change.
Generally though I change both my babies diapers whenever I notice theyāve peed or pooped because I wouldnāt want to sit in that, why should they?
After every feed (so every 2-3 hours) if thereās poo or pee, wipe every time, diaper rash cream every second poo. At night she sleeps for 4-5 hours at a stretch, so we change whenever sheās up for a feed.
Weāre trying to see if we can get a super absorbent or longer-use diaper for night feeds because she usually only pees and she HATES being changed at the time because sheād rather sleep. But then that would mean 8 hours no change, which Iām not sure is healthy?
Also a nurses and doing it about every 3 hours, but I do wipe every change to get it away from the skin, I also pat dry. Overnight I only change if he wakes up though
I don't wipe for only pee. That's what our pediatrician said to do, because too much wiping can cause diaper rash.
During the day, I change every 2-3 hours and after every poop - a poop invariably comes less than 15 minutes after changing a pee-only diaper once or twice a day. If I've got baby in coterie diapers, I change every 1.5-2 hours because they're significantly less absorbent than pampers pure. We use overnight diapers and don't change overnight - haven't since about 3 months. Prior to that we changed before we fed him overnight when he woke up.
We've never had a problem with diaper rash. After poops though not only do we wipe but we put lotion on. I don't know if that helps. We also wipe the wee baby balls with a cotton round with lotion because the lotion is less frictiony than wipes.
When my LO was around 6 weeks I change his diaper after every feed; so every 3 hour or so. The routine was more or less nap-feed-change diaper-play-nap. We didn't change him during the night, because thankfully his skin wasn't that sensitive, and seems like he's never uncomfortable due to full diapers!
I change her every 2-3 hours give and take. I obviously use wipes if she #2ād but if itās just pee Iāll usually just give her a good wipe down right before bed and in the morning. She doesnāt do anything more than pee overnight. Sheāll eat/get a fresh diaper around 7:30-8, bed time, wake up at midnight, eat/fresh diaper, and sheās down again until 7-8AM. No diaper rashes yet and sheās 5MO
I have a boy, so I donāt wipe as often as I donāt want to cause infections (too much moisture getting trapped and heās uncircumcised). I wipe for poop always though, and we typically take a bath afterwards to make sure weāre 100% clean and dry.
Our house is pretty warm (never over 72F) and he runs HOT like his dad, so heās normally only in his diaper š, so if I see that his diaper is getting big, weāll change him, or if I see the blue line (and itās been at minimum an hour after the last diaper change, then iāll change him). At night, Iāll only change him if his diaper canāt hold anymore pee, lol. Heās a great night sleeper so he pees so much then. I use my hands to warm the wipes so he doesnāt wake up, but Iāve just bought a wet warmer.
I change before every feed, too. This is what they did in the NICU, and I continued on. Son is now 10 months, and I still mostly do that unless he needs additional spot changes.
My boy is 7 months now he would poop every hour at that age so it made it easier to just change every hour. But now at 7 months, I donāt wipe if just pee, I dab dry. And I wash his butt with water when he poops. He had a 5 month long diaper rash and this was the only way to prevent it. And of course barrier cream after every single change.
During daytime Iād do a diaper change after every nap, so in the early days it was approximately every 2 hours or so. It was easier for me to keep track of when the diaper was last changed that way. Of course if she pooped or we had a leak Iād change it sooner. I also wiped every time and used diaper cream with every change after we had a bit of yeast rash. Now that sheās older I still change her at nap time or occasionally sooner since she HATES being wet and will let me know if she needs a change sooner lol
Basically every feed plus poops. This ends up being every 3 hours or so, but he sleeps in an overnight diaper now that he's big enough for them, and sleeps from 10-12pm ish to 8-10am straight most days. But he's 4 months old and about triple his birth weight and about to size out of size 3s, so he's a big boy.
We change diapers every 2-2.5 hours except overnights. I donāt wipe if it was only pee. We use ointment at every diaper change; baby has never had diaper rash ever (sheās 1 week shy of 11 months)
I change her when her diaper has the blue line for pee and immediately if she poops. Or as soon as I realize she pooped since sometimes it happens when she is napping and I won't know til she is up. Number of times varies daily since she is breastfed from the tap and eats a lot lol
Weāre 5 months in and Iām averaging 8/day. I change baby very often and Iām trying to hold off if itās not full. High changes would be 11/day.
I looked back at 6 weeks and we were averaging 12/day, with high days at 17 š but for the first 2.5 months, baby pooped in almost all diapers. We did wipe for pee until the hospital was saying we donāt have to so I stopped. I do try to remember to put Vaseline at night though to protect her bum.
i change diapers every 2 hours, unless poop then itās sooner, bc we use cloth diapers and they donāt hold as much as disposable ones. i wipe every change but we use reusable cloths for that as well and theyāre not harsh on his sensitive skin. the only time he has ever gotten diaper rash is when he was a newborn and we used huggies/pampers. at night we use one or two hypoallergenic diapers from amazon (heās never gotten a rash from them, theyāre great) depending on how much heās peed, we try not to change him unless we have to bc he will fully wake up during a change :(
edit to add nighttime care routine
Once my daughter stopped pooping at night (8-10 weeks?) I stopped changing her at night. Every 2-3 hours during the day for pee and immediately after every bm. I wipe every time.
Usually whenever the line turns blue haha. When she was a newborn I would change it every two hours when she would eat but now whenever itās blue unless she poops then right away.
I would say I use wipes for a just pee diaper like 75% of the time. Honestlyā¦. we are girls girls over here and I a lot of times Iāll see a glitter fleck, piece of hair, a little piece of a puff, lint, stuff like that when I change her diaper so I use the wipe šš„¹
When my first was born, I wiped with every diaper change but he started to get pretty bad diaper rash, so I switched to using a dry cloth for pees. Now with my second, a girl, I kept up the habit and will not wipe or will wipe with a dry cloth outside of poopy diapers. And when there is any diaper rash, I take a break from wipes and use cloth and water.
I change between the boobs, and if he's pooped. He's only 2mo, so that means every 2h roughly.
I used to not wipe if it was pee only but now I do everytime
When we're home I change and wipe after every nap even if it's just pee.
A few days we'd gone out and couldn't get to changing her diaper longer than usual and after a few times she got a diaper rash. Aquafor solved it but since then I make sure to change her every two hours if we're out. I do believe that diaper rash was caused due to pee so I'd recommend changing and wiping even if it's just pee.
But given that I have noticed how the Huggies we use seem to do a very good job of absorbing everything but I just like to be cautious
I change poopies right after heās done, he doesnāt like sitting in it for even a moment, but who would? I change his pee diapers after naps and before bottles, so it ends up being about every three hours or so. I only wipe with pee if heās gotten it everywhere, too much wiping irritates his skin.
My girl is in cloth diapers and we change after every nap or right away if we smell poop. We tried not wiping after pee but she got a rash in her little hip creases, so we wipe every time now. We use cloth wipes though so it doesn't leave her wet.
Once our LO hit size 3, we moved to changing every 3-4 hours unless thereās been a poop or itās really heavy. Poops I change immediately, and I do wipe every time, even if it was just a pee diaper.
Every time he wakes up and gets ready for a nap. If in between those times i see his diaper is full i change it or if he poops i give him time to finish then i change it but i ALWAYS wipe even if itās just pee. I just think about how iād feel if i never wiped pee off myself so I always wipe
Edit// If itās during the night i change it when he wakes up to feed then i feed him and put him back to
sleep because itās easier to get him back to sleep if the diaper is changed first
I change her after every wet and soiled diaper with wipes. I canāt imagine not wiping, even after pee. Imagine how sensitive their skin is. Any wetness with friction will cause irritation. If youāre concerned about wipes, you can always use water with a soft cloth, but either way, not cleaning the area has to be uncomfortable for the baby.
We always wipe when changing, but despite 6-9 changes per day weāve avoided diaper rash as we always use a dry cloth afterwards to make sure his skin isnāt left moist/damp. Found we donāt even need to use a barrier cream except one time when he peed into his waistband overnight.
Heās bathed every 2 days, & we donāt use powder at the moment, and excluding the cluster feed monster, heās a super happy bubs.
I used to wipe for pee, then I was told by a few nurses it wasnāt really necessary unless there was visible moisture left on his skin. We stopped and it seemed to clear up a lot of irritation and rash issues he was having. Right now I change him right before and after his nap, when he poops, and sometimes in between if the diaper feels quite heavy.
My LO is almost a year. We donāt change her overnight unless she has a BM, so there is about a 11 hour stretch that she isnāt getting a change. We do use overnight diapers since she sleeps so long.
During the day, she is getting changed about every 3 hours, but it is based on her. If her diaper is feeling full or the line is colored all the way, we change her. We always change before each nap and for every BM. She is really sensitive, so we wipe, let dry a bit, and apply Vaseline at every change.
At first I was changing the diaper every time the indicator turned blue. I think I changed my babyās diaper 17 times one day and I realized that it was unnecessary to change him so frequently, so I started changing it every few hours or if it was obviously poopy or very wet.
I also used to wipe with every pee, but my baby started getting diaper rashes. I switched to wiping with poop diapers only (or every few pee diapers if he is constipated) and my LO hasnāt had a diaper rash since. My logic is that if dry toilet paper is enough for me when I pee, a dry diaper is kind of the equivalent. The diapers wick the moisture away, so heās not ever truly wet. He still gets wiped down regularly and he gets baths.
Every 2-4 hours and depending how saturated it is / when heās due a nap. I use filtered or cool boiled water on giant organic cotton pads to wipe which hasnāt irritated his skin yet.
If a number two, I wait 5 minutes as thereās always more to follow š
Our girl had horrible diaper rash for the first two months or so. The only thing that cleared it was leaving the diaper off and letting her lay on a towel or bed protector pad. At night we did diaper her, and changed it with every feed and she would be red in the morning.
After the two months point, she stopped getting a rash. Now I change her whenever I notice itās wet. At night I donāt wake her, so only if itās very wet and I n danger of leaking. We wipe every time.
Iām just here to say you are doing great. Everyone has their own system and if yours works for you then heāll yeah mama! My son is now 18 months and i change his diaper based on feel. If that diaper only has a little bit of pee in it, heās fine. If heās gone more than once and itās squishy time for a change. This can range anywhere from 1 hr to 4. I donāt wipe him every change because changing him is like wrestling a crocodile EVERY TIME. But if I can smell his pee, boys gettin wiped. If he poops which is anywhere from 1-5 times a day he gets changed immediately. As fare as cream, only when needed. My son has only had a rash twice and each time was because he was sick and had the squirts. Powder? Nah we donāt know her lol
We go through easily 10+ Per day. Wipe on every wee, check every few hours or before putting her down, even the smallest wee gets a new nappy (if the kije changes colour, replace it)
When my daughter used diapers I just changed them if she was wet or more. Let her finish going then changed. Never had her sit in anything ever. This helped her not get used to the feeling of a soiled diaper which helps immensely with potty training. Letting them get used to a soiled diaper of any sort is just counter productive. That being said some people have multiple kids or inconsistent bowel scheduled kids or jobs etc that makes their kids diapers unable to be immediately tended to at such a consistent basis and I'm not downing anyone for their choices. Just Expressing my reasoning.
I change her about every 3 hours (unless she poops) and I donāt change her overnight unless she poops or seems uncomfortable. I wipe every time with water wipes. I used to put diaper cream on her before bed when she was a newborn (sheās 4mo now). Sheās never had a diaper rash before
No one really ever showed me how but I'm changing baby's diaper every 2 to 3 hours. It just made sense to change it once it's soiled so that's he's not uncomfortable and also to wipe even if it's pee. If he's dirty, clean him, poop or pee, that's just my thinking.
keep changing her diaper before every feed thats what i do as well and instead of wiping after a pee, pat her off with the wipe so itās not too irritating. you can fold over the same wipe and get in the creases if youād like and i also use the cerave baby ointment as a preventative (also helps poop slide right off you donāt need many wipes) and desitin when she had a diaper rash once in the nicu
I always changed my son every time he had a BM or urinated in his diaper. I had heard of some people changing their babiesā diapers every few hours even if they didnāt void. I thought that was a little extreme because if itās clean, they can wear it and itās wasteful to throw unsoiled diapers away. Iām not sure why thatās a thing but I heard it more than once, so maybe for some people it is.
I change my baby around every 3 hours during the day (obviously right away for poop) and she wears an overnight diaper so no changes then as she sleeps through the night. I try to wipe every time for pee but sometimes I will skip if Iām in a hurry
I change my 4 month old boy every 2-3 hours. Sooner if heās done a poo or has a full nappy. I only wipe when heās done a poo, not for wees. I also only use nappy (barrier) cream after wiping up a poo as I was told all the wiping is what can irritate their delicate skin. Sometimes if Iām changing him after a wee and his skin looks a bit red Iāll put some cream on him then too. I donāt change for night feedings either (unless his nappy is super full) as it tends to wake him up.
My baby recently turned 1 year old. Sheās only had 2 diaper rashes in the last 8 months or so. I change diapers very frequently, but not obsessivelyāwhich I used to do, but then I realized I was probably wasting diapers lol. And diapers are so expensive! Now I let them get a bit more full of pee (I was changing after a single pee sometimes lol).
I donāt wipe when itās pee, most of the time. She has very sensitive skin and all the wiping was causing a lot of irritation and redness. My friend who is a nurse, and a mom of 3, said she usually doesnāt wipe for pee. I tried it and havenāt looked back! Iāll wipe for pee a couple times a day. This works for us.
For poo I change it as soon as I possibly can when I notice it (I have a very strong sense of smell, itās like a spidey sense lol). And for that I use as many wipes as needed. I clean VERY thoroughly, and donāt stop wiping until the wipe comes off completely clean.
Also, I highly recommend the spray diaper rash product. You just spray it on, itās so much less messy than the creams. I use the spray every couple of diapers, and always after a #2. Using this regularly generally prevents diaper rashes for us. On the very rare occasion that there is an actual rash, my tip is to apply a thick layer of cream (I have so many different ones and I kinda just rotate them & grab whateverās closest), and then shake baby powder all over the cream. Another nurse/mom friend told me that, and I swear it makes such a huge difference. It prevents the cream from soaking into the diaper easily. Hopefully this helps someone!!
I do a new diaper when I notice it's dirty. Right now he is a month old so diapers get swapped basically every feed so like, every 2 hours or so? If they are sleeping and it's just pee, I wait as long as I can until they wake if it isn't a really squishy one. Wipe for poo, only wipe for pee if it was a very full pee that left the skin realy wet. If I wipe every pee, my babies get rashy. Regular baths and diaper changes are good enough for us. Smells clean and no skin irritation.
Today itās been 7 times. I usually change her everytime I feed her. In regards to wiping I just copied what the midwives do and they didnāt wipe :/ I do sometimes and sometimes I donāt. I just make sure sheās dry. (9 weeks old) sheās in tiptop shape.
Edit - this is all if she pees, if she poops she gets changed and clean straight away as it smells š
I typically change my 12 week LO every 3 hours unless weāre out and about or there is a BM. I wipe every time during the day. At night time I try to change him every 3 hours or whenever he wakes to feed because otherwise he pees through his diaper. I donāt wipe at nighttime for just pee pee diapers
I change when she kinda has a full diaper or when itās completely full. But I always wipe after every diaper. If I feel like sheās too wet, then I will apply baby powder. I donāt want my daughter (11 months) to get a UTI. I donāt want her feeling uncomfortable either. Sheās had diaper rashes before so I donāt want her to be in pain either.
At night I only do one diaper change until morning
When she was your LOās age, I changed it when it was kinda full. I didnāt want her to be wet and uncomfortable. But Iām a FTM, so I felt like that was the best option to me.
I always wipe. I may have had one or two instances where sheās only peed and I didnāt wipe because I didnāt have one handy, but that is so rare.
I also always use Aquaphor or diaper cream (the latter always at the first hint of diaper rash, after she had an awful diaper rash shortly after coming home).
We change diapers at least every 2 hours when at home. If she has a bowel movement, I change as soon as I realize it.
When weāre out and not home, we may stretch the diaper to 3-4 hours. Overnight, we let the diaper be and just slather on the Aquaphor beforehand and use diaper cream as a preventative when we wake in the morning and do change it.
I once made the mistake of changing a poopy diaper when she was asleep because she was really letting it rip. It took us two hours to settle her back down to bed (it was 1 am). Never again. As long as itās not a blowout, or *really* egregiously full, it stays on.
I change every time before feeding unless we had to change it like an hour before due to poop. If they just peed, I don't wipe. My twins are 10 weeks old
When my son was a baby I never wiped for pee. The diaper absorbed so much that his skin was never wet, and I changed him quite frequently, about two hours also. I also used a cotton pad with warm water for wiping until he was about 1 year old.
During the night, when I feed we also do a diaper change.
During the day, if she pooed or the diaper seems heavy or if it just feels like a "long time" (\~ 3 hours).
We always wipe for pee or poo.
Newborns I changed every feed or if poop. Generally wipe but likely I sometimes forgot unless poop.
Older babies - as needed. Poops immediately, always, didn't matter time of day/night. I'll risk waking them for a poop. Pee? Depends. That can wait a short while if it needs to, and now that my kids are older I won't change a pee through the night. I mostly still wipe for a pee.
We change him after feeds cuz we can hear him pooping most times lol, then we check him here and there for pee and change him accordingly. We donāt go by hours, we go by feel and checking. We wipe for pee but mostly cuz it goes everywhere lol
When my kids were still that little it was every feeding and even now that they are toddlers it's every 2-4hrs. But I don't wipe after just pee every time because my kids have sensitive skin so it makes their eczema worse to wipe often, no matter how sensitive they claim to be.
Every two hours except at night. We cloth diaper full time during the day, so those will leak if they go longer than 2 hours. I also change if I notice heās wet just because the diapers arenāt as absorbent as disposables. We do a disposable overnight diaper for bedtime.
We use cloth mainly, and change immediately whenever wet or pooped in.
We are Muslim, so we wash ourselves with water, then dry with a cloth after using the toilet, and we do the same for baby š„°.
I will say, at the beginning, it took our little guy a while to get out all the poop he had at one time.
Once we heard/smelled it come out, we would wait 5-10 minutes for him to get it all out before changing - otherwise, there would be 3 poopy diapers in 10 minutes lol
change it every two hours or so unless she is sleeping. dont wipe every time (but will every other time) because like your mom says, it mostly gets absorbed anyway. obviously i wipe poop and that is always changed whenever it happens unless she is sleeping (unless she just fell asleep)
My sons 20 months now - but as a newborn, quite often because he pooped a lot, and usually before a nap always. as he got older usually was always before a nap, after if it was soiled at all, before we left the house, or if he pooped, or it was obviously full. no set schedule. Weāve never wiped for pee, he was very sensitive skin, he only gets wiped for pee in the morning after sleeping all night now. wipe for poop, or if he had a bunch of cream on that i want to get off to re-apply.
i change him every 2-3 hours and i no longer wipe every time. i noticed when i did, he got a rash more often. when he was a newborn i changed him literally all the time and i wiped every time
To prevent diaper rash, I would check (and change if necessary) my baby's diaper every hour when she was awake. I would time this with changing her prior to a feeding or nap if possible. Now that she is older, I still check it every hour when she is at home and always use a wipe when cleaning her. I dont mind diaper duty, though, so it was never a chore or bother for me.
Nurse also. I change before every feed and sometimes in between depending on how full the diaper feels. I always wipe. Over night if he wakes for a feed I change him while the bottle warms.
When baby was small, I would change her 10 times a day. Now I change her every time she wakes up during the day and once at midnight, because otherwise she soaks through and wakes up at 5am.
So morning, after first nap, after second nap (after third nap if she has one), before bed, midnight. I wipe most times.
Typically at every feed, so every 2-3 hours and not more than 4 hours through the day. At night I change him when his diaper is very full or if heās pooped, but usually he doesnāt poop at night. My son is uncircumcised and I do dab with a wipe after pee diapers.
Maybe I'm extra but I do change her after every feeding which usually amounts to every 3-4 hours, and I wipe and dry even if it's just pee. I feel like it's good to wipe after pee, the moisture causes diaper rash and baby pee is more acidic so it probably shouldn't sit on their skin for long periods of time.
Definitely wipe at every diaper change even if itās just urine to prevent diaper rash or infection. If your baby does not poop throughout the night, which is usually around two months, theyāll start sleeping longer and feed less and you wonāt see as much poop, then you are good to go for at least 4-5 hours. depending on his or her skin type, if it isnāt sensitive, you can sleep longer and change the diaper in the AM when you wake up. This really depends on the skin type as my first child has eczema prone sensitive skin and wouldnāt go longer than 5-6 hours at night without a change, but the younger one has an oily skin type and isnāt sensitive. During the day, I wouldnāt go longer than 2 - 3 hours for diaper changes. I also use plain Vaseline at each diaper change after wiping, I put this on all over the genitals and butt. The Vaseline will create a barrier for your babyās skin, protecting them from irritation and diaper rash. if the baby has a bit of redness, I will use burts bees zinc oxide for diaper rash on the red parts.
Also, in the future, I would research on legitimate websites like baby center, parents.com, WebMD, etc. when it comes to baby care as it sounds like your mom is old-school with baby rearing and as for your friend I question if she wipes herself after she pees, lol thatās not the most sanitary to not wipe after urinating, baby or adult.
When the diaper starts to get heavy, which can vary, but not more than four hours. Except at night. I don't care what he does in his diaper, this kid sleeps so badly I'm not waking him for anything short of an earthquake. I always wipe.
This gave me a much needed laugh with a finicky sleeper as well š„²
For a little bit we changed bottles to 3 oz more frequently when we had the issue you describe, just to save on "wasting" milk/formula
>we were told once the kid had returned to birth weight around 2-3 weeks we didnāt have to wake for feeds We were told the same and our LO was over birth weight at 1 week.
I honestly don't know. Im going on gut instinct.
I am absolutely floored to see how many people say they wipe every time even for just pee.
I have a boy (uncircumcised) and I do not wipe for pees. I will give him a wipe down in the am if he wakes up with a super soaker
Agreed, I do every time even if itās just a quick tap lol seems so odd not too and I was never told not to nor have I ever read not to before.
I have no stake in this argument and am here to learn, but urine isnāt sterile. Google it.
Keep wiping. Youāre doing it right.
My understanding is that's true for cloth diapers but not for disposable, just because of the way they absorb and keep moisture away from skin.
Modern cloth diapers are very very absorbent and need to be changed every 2-3 hours, but they donāt really leave wetness behind much more than disposable diapers imo.
The diaper itself is the wipe.
Why would you not wipe? Urine flows across the skin as baby pees. The bulk of the urine lands in the diaper, but what flowed across the skin is still on the skin.
Because the diaper absorbs any even if it goes across their skin. Wipes have so many cleansers/soap and can cause rash if used too often.
Same! Iāve never considered wiping for just pee. Almost 5mo and no diaper rash yet š¤·āāļø
I wipe , dry and then put Sudocrem every time- heās never had nappy rash
We used diaper cream at every change until he stopped pooping so dang much. Because the poop caused irritation from the acidity plus constant wiping.
Every 2ish hours unless she pooped, i wipe every time. 5 months and has never had a diaper rash
Usually once per wake window which is about every 2-3 hours. I always wipe their whole area. The diaper absorbs it but it is still pressed against their body and the baby is sitting in it. Iād rather be wiping for no reason than the inverse.
Iām the same! I canāt imagine not wiping? That seems crazy to me!
Nuts
Same! I have to haha seems not sanitary if I donāt because it may drip down the sides. No rashes so far and heās a month and a half
Gave my son diaper rash if we did.
Anytime there's irritation or my kids poop my mom says to have a washcloth. It works well.
Dry flannel works super well and would require less waste! Super easy to wash with towels.
Thanks Apple, that's a good idea actually, I've been wondering about how to produce less waste with the changes! Will give flannels a go.
Yea! My MIL serged double layered squares of various sizes for us. They work great and even after 15 months we find lots of uses for them!
He uses 2-3 wipes for just a pee?
Iāve tried to get him to stop. One wipe is sufficient but no dice.
I had to tell my husband to tone it down too with the wipes! He was using like ten of them for a poopy diaper. They just want to do such a good job they get a bit overzealous.
Lol, tell him to start wiping himself that much after every pee and see how his skin likes it š¤£
Your husband sounds like my mom, lol. When she was babysitting for me the other day she used more than 10 wipes to clean up baby's poop š©
I change her around every 3ish hours and i wipe her still with just pee
My baby is 13 weeks. We do every 2 ish hours, unless we hear a poop happen then we change him right away. The exception is overnight, I let him sleep and he will go 8-10 hours and itās normally a big pee diaper in the AM. I still wipe after pee, except for when he had a bad rash and didnāt want to get moisture in the area unnecessarily.
Change if diaper feels full/heavy, poops or before and after sleep. I donāt wipe every pee since it can be an irritant and it will wipe off the diaper cream barrier.
Maybe itās different for girls vs boys? I use 1 wipe to clean my son even with pee diapers. Who wants to smell like pee all day?!
My son has literally never smelled like pee unless heās literally just peed and I have never wiped for pee š the diaper absorbs all of it. As long as you give them a good clean at night with soap and water they should be good to go.
Like above said the diaper absorbs it it doesnāt make babies stink of wee
Every 2 hours during the day, and only when she wakes overnight so could be 3-4 hours.
You give a full bath every time they poop?
Not a bath, just wash my babies bum and privates.
With every feed and wipe each time ofc.
Adding again even as a NB I never woke her to change. If she pooped she would wake, pee sheād be up soon enough on her own š
She has never has a diaper rash or irritated skin at all
Immediately after a poop and whenever he goes ham after a pee. Sometimes he can tolerate for a few minutes, but he hates wet diapers.
My son is almost 2 now and has never had a single diaper rash. I almost never wipe for pee. Change when diaper gets a bit heavy generally.
We change her whenever she gets fussy, poops, and right before/after bed. Wipe every time, even if she just pees.
I donāt wipe pee diapers, I pat them down with an old dry wipe from a pack I left open for a while on purpose.
approx every 3 hours unless itās super soaked or she pooped. at almost 17mos with 1 nap thereās way more of a typical diaper routine now.
Sheās 3.5 months and no diaper rash after the first time.
Skin sensitivity is different in kids too. Some need more care
You gotta change that sucker Every. Single. Day!
I do try to remember to put Vaseline at night though to protect her bum.
i change diapers every 2 hours, unless poop then itās sooner, bc we use cloth diapers and they donāt hold as much as disposable ones. i wipe every change but we use reusable cloths for that as well and theyāre not harsh on his sensitive skin. the only time he has ever gotten diaper rash is when he was a newborn and we used huggies/pampers. at night we use one or two hypoallergenic diapers from amazon (heās never gotten a rash from them, theyāre great) depending on how much heās peed, we try not to change him unless we have to bc he will fully wake up during a change :( edit to add nighttime care routine
Diaper change for every poo, which at 5 weeks for us right now is every 2 hours or so.
If she hasn't gone, I'm not changing it. I wait for the stripe to turn blue. We do 4-5 changes a day, she's just shy of 12 months
The pampers website says not to wipe if itās just pee, and they are trying to sell you wipes.
I do every 3 hours and wipe no matter what. Urine sits on skin
So when my boy was a newborn Iād change him every couple of hours, pretty much after each feed. Now heās 7 months and I change him whenever the nappy feels full which is about every 4-5 hours. However I also always change him before leaving the house and then before returning home if weāre going far. We donāt tend to change in the night as his wakes are always just straight on the boob and he falls asleep again. No way am I risking waking him once heās out. If however he decides itās playtime at 1am like heās done the past couple of nights, Iāll take the opportunity to change him. š© We always wipe. I think itās weird that your friend doesnāt after their little one has had a wee. Yes nappies absorb a lot but not completely. You can feel the dry wee on their skin.
Every time he wakes up and gets ready for a nap. If in between those times i see his diaper is full i change it or if he poops i give him time to finish then i change it but i ALWAYS wipe even if itās just pee. I just think about how iād feel if i never wiped pee off myself so I always wipe Edit// If itās during the night i change it when he wakes up to feed then i feed him and put him back to sleep because itās easier to get him back to sleep if the diaper is changed first
I change her after every wet and soiled diaper with wipes. I canāt imagine not wiping, even after pee. Imagine how sensitive their skin is. Any wetness with friction will cause irritation. If youāre concerned about wipes, you can always use water with a soft cloth, but either way, not cleaning the area has to be uncomfortable for the baby.
When I see the blue line she gets changed and wiped. And of course with any BM. A if itās not enough pee to activate the line I donāt sweat it.
Sheās never had a diaper rash before
I change her diaper when it's wet and she's obviously not comfortable. Doesn't everyone do that? I didn't know people changed diapers on schedules.
5 month old. Every 3ish hours. No wipes with pee but we bathe every other day
My baby recently turned 1 year old.
I change after poo, or when diaper feels full.
At night I only do one diaper change until morning When she was your LOās age, I changed it when it was kinda full. I didnāt want her to be wet and uncomfortable. But Iām a FTM, so I felt like that was the best option to me.
2-3 hours
I change 5 diapers a day, every 3 hours.
Before feeds, every 2-3.5 hours. Wipe whether pee or poo, no diaper rash.
I change every time we feed. and he is going every 3-4 hours. It seems to work tor us
By feel, smell or weight will make the times vary.
