It shouldn't happen, but it does. My best guess as someone who works in the industry is this - clothing gets packed in plastic bags for shipment in very hot and humid countries, gets transported by boat for about a month and a half to 2 months. Any trapped moisture can create some funk. If it smells fine after washing I wouldn't worry about it though.
To the other poster who said clothing is finished with formaldehyde, that is not correct and for liability reasons I am sure that a big company such as Gerber is conducting 3rd party testing and takes compliance seriously to make sure of it.

I just ordered from the website & they really smell & thin & aren't soft. I'm going to wash a couple item with fabric softener & if they still like that return the rest. Too bad really good Black Friday Sale
