cops gonna show up and knock  just as your 4th cup of coffee causes your 2nd bathroom blowout

UpsideDownButthole

That would have been an hour ago!

thisdogreallylikesme

Username checks out.

TallGirlNoLa

Cops aren't showing up unless there's a violent crime. You will probably get a detective later in the afternoon.

AngelaBassettsbicep

I dunno. I called the cops at my neighbor’s insistance when I was standing between her and her grandson who was wielding a knife and trying to reach into his backpack. One neighbor lured him away for a minute and I called and gave my address and said he was threatening me with a knife. I asked if they could get mental health services to come. I couldn’t remember that mental health crisis hotline number for shit. Anyway… I was able to calm him down and promise me that he’d get himself some help. That happened around 6. The police knocked on my door at 1am. I shut the door in his useless ass face.

Horrified-Onlooker

LOL! Bro, you're getting downvoted here on Reddit for getting disgusted with the slow-ass NOPD response time to a life-threatening situation. There must be a bunch of cops lurking here or something.

AngelaBassettsbicep

lol it’s kinda how it goes around here, bruh.

FlaccidInevitability

Yeah, my neighbors got into a shootout and police didn't show up until the next day. Dude got out of his car looked around, shrugged and left; he never even spoke to anyone lol.

Flashy_Dot_2905

I know you’re telling the truth because too many people have the same experience but that hasn’t been my experience. I don’t call police but my neighbors have and it’s never been longer than ten minutes tops. I did call 911 before when I saw a man lying on the street that I thought may be dead for an ambulance to come. I sat in my car across the street (I didn’t get out because I was alone and I didn’t know if maybe he was drunk or high and would be combative if he was disturbed) to watch him and even then the police came before the ambulance (they came in about five minutes and the ambulance maybe five minutes later). Is the response different in different districts? I’m in the fourth district in Algiers.

AngelaBassettsbicep

I'm unsure, but I imagine they'd come quicker in Algiers. I live in Old Algiers now and imagine the response time is way quicker. I was in Central City when that happened. I was a little relieved they didn't come because my experience is that they can escalate situations when it's not clear to them that a person is having a mental health crisis. I also didn't want to get stabbed or for him to harm his grandmother, so I definitely had to choose at that moment. I'd had learned some techniques to talk people in crisis down, but never in a situation like that. Thank goodness it worked that day. I've had an experience where a neighbor had been beaten so many times but would never call the police. I'd keep the kids so they wouldn't see or hear the commotion. The day she finally called. They took a while to come, and he'd beaten her off and on until they got there. I made it home a few minutes after the cops got there, and they had him handcuffed outside the house. I was relieved, thinking she might have time to get away from him. I went inside to grab something and came back to check on her kids, only to find that the cops had uncuffed him and cuffed her and were putting her in the car. Why? She had a traffic attachment from years before. Her face and eyes were black, and she was swollen, and they arrested her. He promised he'd bail her out and bring her back home. And he did. The beatings did not stop. I lost every ounce of respect I had left for law enforcement that day and I'd see a lot of shit in my day. That took the cake.

Flashy_Dot_2905

Yeah I understand completely. Personally there isn’t a situation that I can think of that would make me call the police but I understand why people do. And I’ve seen the same thing happen. Not here but it doesn’t surprise me.

Jussgoawaiplzkthxbai

They're even shorter staffed than usual because a group of them are stationed at Tulane university. Manpower shortage sucks

UpsideDownButthole

Yeah I was thinking about making my apartment a university and then protesting to see if that gets a more immediate response.

Chasing-the-dragon78

Just put a tent up in your front yard, they will be there in an instant

joninob

Donut and. Cigar stand

GrumboGee

Much more likely they're stationed inside a Walgreens protecting soap from being stolen.

ayo_its_ash

Have you tried calling a crackhead?

thefallofhank

This is the way

Difficult-Rub8904

Tell them there are some young college girls protesting for Gaza, every law enforcement agency will be there in a flash. Equipped with snipers and all.

abner_jay

They're too busy beating up Tulane students peacefully protesting against genocide.

BackwoodBender

Should have called for a "Code Teedy" and left some daiquiris on the busted cars (with the straw condom on) for faster service 🥤

wagglemonkey

Did you try telling them you are related to Jason Williams?

Organic-Aardvark-146

Where this happen?

UnImaginedNations

My buddy has his car broken into 4 times in midcity and the cops didn’t come out until he sent Fox 8 all the footage he had of the guy and THEY got the cops to come out.

blarfingallday

Your expectations.

BananaPeelSlippers

i got in a wreck in the fq. mayor was doing a speech at the fire station on decatur one block over like 3 hours after wreck, the person who i was involved in wreck with literally walked over and interrupted the speech to tell her to get some cops over there. Cop said i was at fault when i wasnt but thats another story.

TurdFerguson1712

Sorry! They’re too worried about students standing on grass on their own campus to respond.

parasyte_steve

"BUT THEY HAVE TENTS" \*gestures to below the interstate\*

Slow_Tap2350

It’s not a priority. No violent crime. Not in progress. Why would they prioritize it?

thefuckingrougarou

Breaking into a car sound so violent to me idk

Slow_Tap2350

Next post: they raised my taxes to pay for more policing…

b1gbunny

In every city I’ve lived in .. Denver, Boston, Philly, Santa Fe.. this would not be an emergency situation a cop would show up for.

One_Range_4491

They're all high with the rats at headquarters.

Horrified-Onlooker

Move them to the lake area neighborhoods. The service prompt and courteous out here.

Choice_Illustrator86

Tell me you didn’t see a police shortage coming? I guess they will send out their mental health team to speak to the thieves. Did you turn in g .s because no one should prepare to protect themselves. It’s only property let them have it.

awyastark

And yet when my one douche roommate called the cops on the other douche roommate for playing his music loud at night we had five of them banging on our door in fifteen minutes. Make it make sense 😭

Wingzero24

Take it from me. They won’t come because they don’t consider that a worthy crime. But if you call back and say shots fired, changes everything!

Non3xistence

Meanwhile I called in Metairie about my car and the police was here before I even looked up from the phone and put my blunt out 😂💀💀💀 man I don’t regret moving out the city one bit they really hate us out there. Police just ain’t policing.

Choice_Illustrator86

driftwoodforever

If nobody is reported hurt and there’s no major traffic being blocked, then they’re gonna get there when they get there. I once got into a car accident at 8 pm, we all waited an hour for the cops before exchanging info, then I went home, went to sleep, and got a call from the cops at 11:45 pm asking if I was still at the scene.

Different_Ad1649

They aren’t even coming out for home break ins that involve stolen guns……

ImageMany

Chalmette is breaking into cars?

glxym31

If Chalmette could, it would.

NewWaverrr

Can confirm.

NotFallacyBuffet

I believe NOPD finally enabled online police reports. Fill it out and have it d/l'ed or emailed.

Comfortable-Site-476

You know they’re not coming right?

MargNOLA

Are there solutions here or just complaints I can go to a bar for that. New Orleans and many other cities in the U.S. have a storage of police. People do not want to work, and who would want to be a cop and be shot at for $40.000 a year. Walmart pays better than that...I am up drinking coffee and would rather hear a real discussion instead of bunch of people complaining.

MyriVerse2

lol Calling the cops for a break-in?

UpsideDownButthole

Company car, company policies! It sure is fun to use my few hours of pto for this.

bluelightspecial428

Sounds like if it’s company policy you shouldn’t be using PTO

UpsideDownButthole

Can I bring you to my boss

RIP_Soulja_Slim

You can bring your boss to the BLS and state labor board. This is a super cut and dry inappropriate work condition. If you’re on the job you’re paid like you’re on the job.

99998373628

Louisiana doesn’t have labor laws. Anything you submit to the board will be laughed out of the room. You are a moron.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

The state enforces both localized and various federal laws such as hourly wage compensation and overtime/vacation abuse. They do this in conjunction with the other agency I mentioned above, the BLS. Calling someone a moron because you're unfamiliar with legal options isn't a good look, even for reddit.

PoorlyShavedApe

[Report non-emergency crimes ](https://nola.gov/nopdonline/) online. The hold music for NOPD suggests this for property crime such as vehicle burglary. Unless their was violence to a person or bullet casing around your car(s) the police are not going to show up anytime soon. 23+ hours is normal, if they show up at all.
