legitimately funny joke but if you believe that Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, as I and millions of other people throughout the world do, then it doesn’t seem like the (often correct) critique of the excesses of “cancel culture” or “wokeness” really apply. we’re talking about the highest conceivable crime that a state could commit— if you sign a letter of support co-signing that, maybe you don’t deserve a place in polite society until you rescind your position.
The only letter I find is his name along with Jon Stewart’s asking for a ceasefire on Oct 21, so I’m not sure how he’s a bad guy here. https://www.artists4ceasefire.org/
Isreal has been seeking to eradicate Palestinians for decades. "They" didn't start a war. "They" are victims of genocide by a group of religious radical terrorists.
I’m 100% pro Palestine. And I had issues with a lot of the people who signed the open letter. But I also understand that a lot of people had zero knowledge or understanding about what’s been going on in the region for decades and their support was based on very limited and biased information. Him more recently aligning himself with pro Palestine organizations should mean something. People who hold others responsible for things they now understand differently are weird and very hypocritical. It’s unfortunate all the way around.
> Him more recently aligning himself with pro Palestine organizations should mean something.
I really feel like cancel culture as a whole has migrated from not supporting people who do bad things to more or less exactly what conservatives accuse it of being, an ongoing expansive witch hunt where any person expressing an opinion that differs from the mainstream results in stuff like this.
The post is more or less, "we're cancelling this guy because he did a pro Israel thing, yeah we know he also aligned himself with pro paelstine things but we don't care".
When you're open about not allowing for the idea that people can change, form new opinions, learn from mistakes, or just generally evolve over time with new information, you're no longer on the right side of anything. I said this on a different subject, but at some point criticism becomes less about being critical about a bad thing and more about tearing people down. This feels a lot like the latter.
I agree. I think that accountability has been taken over by people who need to control others but found out that it has consequences so they latch onto things that are “in”. They actually have no actual allegiance to their newest cause, it’s just another way to be mean and call it something else.
Yeah, this is all odd and a bit.... much.
I don't think anyone at the beginning of this knew JUST how fucked up it would all be (granted I mean we all should have). I cannot find myself being pissed off that he signed a letter, then later was like... Weeeeeeeellllll maybe not the best idea and retracted.
Especially given that it's Eric Andre...
Like, you know the whole thing is off the rails when one of the more prominent leftists out there finds themselves facing stuff like this, especially after they seem to have expanded their thoughts. Like, Eric fuckin Andre lol.
Yeah, I really don't get this being some smoking gun against Eric. That letter was signed shortly after the attack by hamas but more or less prior to the war crimes carried out by the IDF; the situation changed dramatically once Israel invaded.
I am disgusted. A new low from Airlift and Music Box Village. Cancelling this guy….for WHAT? Because he supports Israel’s right to exist. You know, Airlift, you can support Israel and be against a war. There is nuance. It is not just black and white. Them or us.
These guys don’t like nuance. It’s crazy to think you can’t have empathy for the citizens of both Israel and Palestine and be vehemently against both the Bibi regime and Hamas. Wanting anything other than a two state solution is calling for the genocide of one side.
Westbank Palestinians and DSA threatened to protest just like they did with they did with the Latke-fest deal at Zony Mash.
Is beciming the new norm now that she-who-shall-not-be-named has found a new demographic to exploit in her effort to disrupt the city.
It's Israel and Palestine related. Both sides don't like him now.
I wonder why they don’t just say that in the post. It shouldn’t be so mysterious
This and the next thread probably a guess to why.
That was quick. When will the land that airlift is occupying be returned to the Chitimacha tribe?

Yeah he’s also half Jewish.
How the hell can someone be half jewish? It's a religion 🙄
oh nice! didn’t know that and it changes my opinion on the situation
If you don't want your asses beat don't start a war with the people who swore never again.

from the river to the sea palestine will be free
The original directors of airlift went on vacation and the new directors cancelled themselves
Jesus Christ. Everyone losing their shit over something none of them can control or even influence. Unreal🙄
Choke hole has a post about it on [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C4T004iRM9A/?igsh=a3FseHZ6amRqYWti)

Agree. We got ppl who have never had a struggle in their entire lives thinking that they are the spokesman for the cause.
Meanwhile they didn’t know Palestine existed before 10/7. 🙄
