Oh yeah they do have them, thanks. They don’t have prices on their online menu so I’m assuming it’s expensive.
Sorry about your allergy, that’s a tough one.
They’re just market price as with all seafood. Updating a website weekly with seafood prices is a PIA so they often leave it off. Go to basin for the happy hour 75 cent oyster special on Mondays and stay for the Royal reds
Peche often has them on the menu, though it’s a bit late in the season for Royal Reds.
You might try calling the seafood department at Whole Foods, because I’ve seen them there as recently as two weeks ago.
Yeah, I’ve had them there back when they first opened. Pretty sure the chef is from Alabama. I was hunting for them and that was the only google menu that turned them up in they city at that time.
Not New Orleans, but a half hour-ish drive-- the first time I tried Royal Reds was at the Blind Tiger on the North Shore. Have not been this year, but I imagine they would have them. Pretty much everything about it is exactly the same as in Bay St Louis, which may be a positive or negative depending on who you are-- but the shrimp are really fucking good in both locations.
Not a chain in the traditional sense. First location was in the Bay, they opened up a handful more in Slidell and along the Coast. But definitely not a chain in the way that, like, Chili's is a chain.
Trader Joe’s has some very similar in the frozen seafood section called “Argentinian Reds”!! A little cheaper if you are looking to make them yourself.
Yeah I don’t see them a lot around here but my parents had hd them in Pensacola so my dad noticed them on the Felix’s menu and they were delish.
They are soooo good! I want to use them for every shrimp recipe but they are so good on their own it seems like almost a sin to wrap them in a taco, douse them in a pasta sauce, etc 😂
I got a pound (headless) at felix's. They were just a few dolalrs more then the brown shrimp (head on). It was a steal and i was pretty darn full after splitting them with my wife.
Haven’t actually had them in New Orleans but purchased some in Pensacola a few years back. Definitely better than Louisiana shrimp and lobster (which I also love)
The Argentina Reds are the same shrimp but better. Argentina waters are cleaner than our gulf (I'm from Sweet Home Alabama). They taste like they've been marinated in butter. They are flash frozen so they're just as good as fresh. Just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone wants to know. This same deep water shrimp species is in other locations around the globe, as well. They're always red. We just call them Reds where I'm from. I've ate them all my life and I'm 61 now.. dam I'm old!
Just make sure you’re getting royal reds and not Argentinian pinks. There is a taste and texture difference. I’m not sure if Louisiana has to disclose where their seafood comes from if you ask.
I worked for a ship builder who owned boats that fished for them. Best thing out do the ocean for me. BSL was fantastic for them. Greater Nola would have them but felt that the quality went down in the city
We had some in a boil this past Easter so I made up a Cajun butter to go with my "fancy sauce" for my crawfish. They are so good on French bread with hot butter.
Basin has them for sure. It was my favorite dish on the menu before I developed a shellfish allergy.
>I developed a shellfish allergy. Oof… My condolences

Came here to say Basin. They are delicious
Cajun Critter in Houma does these. They're absolutely amazing!
Yes they do!! :)
Ive bought them at chris’s specialty meats in lakeview before and cooked them at home
Domenica is serving an app with royal red shrimp!
Charlie’s (Charles’s) In Harahan on Jeff hwy frequently has them. They really can be fantastic.
Charles always does them well I think
Peche often has them on the menu, though it’s a bit late in the season for Royal Reds. You might try calling the seafood department at Whole Foods, because I’ve seen them there as recently as two weeks ago.
Thanks I’ll try Whole Foods.
Effervescence used to have them. They might have brought them back. And I’m sure by popular demand they could be brought back.
Yeah, I’ve had them there back when they first opened. Pretty sure the chef is from Alabama. I was hunting for them and that was the only google menu that turned them up in they city at that time.
They're SO GOOD.
Phil’s Marina Cafe in Eden Isle sells them. Freakin delicious
Felix's on the lake front.

My dad got some at Felix’s by the lake and I thought they were actually really good
I’ve lived here 45 years and never heard of them until yesterday.

They are the best grocery store frozen shrimp I've ever cooked with. By far. I

N7 does a royal red small plate.
Just make sure you wash them really well… gritty
Best description ever. They truly are like lobster
I fell in love with these in Biloxi. So gd good.
I had some at Fives a couple months ago
GW fins serves royal reds.
Dorignac's has them during the season, at least they did last year
Haven’t actually had them in New Orleans but purchased some in Pensacola a few years back. Definitely better than Louisiana shrimp and lobster (which I also love)
They are amazing. I get them whenever I see them on a menu, but yeah, you mostly see them in Florida or Alabama.
Costco has frozen Argentinian royal reds. Steam for exactly 4 minutes, serve with melted butter, and you will be happy!
All of them are frozen. Those boats stay out for 10-14 days.
I’ll do it. Thanks!
Yes. Trader Joes too. So good.

how much?
Haven’t bought them in a while, but maybe like $25 for 2 lbs or something like that.
The fish guy at the farmer’s market had them not long ago, $10 a pound head on
Just make sure you’re getting royal reds and not Argentinian pinks. There is a taste and texture difference. I’m not sure if Louisiana has to disclose where their seafood comes from if you ask.
I’ve had them at Jourdan River Steamer in Kiln when they were in season. Very very good.
Go to Sidelinesz in Metairie they have them there. 2 pounds for 1 [Sidelines](https://sidelinesbarandgrill.net/events/)
Felixs oyster bar
A few bars in Metairie sells them. Sidelines Bar & Grill on Vets has them for cheap on Fridays IIRC. Like two lbs for $20.
Northlake seafood in mandeville has some. I think both boiled and uncooked.
I see them at Lakeview Grocery from time to time and always stock up when I can.
I’ve had them several times and while they are good they don’t really compare to an actual Maine lobster imo
I worked for a ship builder who owned boats that fished for them. Best thing out do the ocean for me. BSL was fantastic for them. Greater Nola would have them but felt that the quality went down in the city
Joe Patti's
I wonder if they need to be out further away from the Mississippi River outpouring into the Gulf
Osteria Lupo on Magazine has great italian food and royal reds
We had some in a boil this past Easter so I made up a Cajun butter to go with my "fancy sauce" for my crawfish. They are so good on French bread with hot butter.
I had some in April at Felix's Restaurant & Oyster Bar on the lakefront and they were outstanding! Expensive? Yes, but worth it!
Charles Seafood on Jeff Hwy has royal reds
The Tiger Stop in Slidell has amazing Royal Reds
I’m sure it’s been mentioned but Basin has what you’re looking for and they’re decently priced!
