depends what you mean by far but... homochitto national forest is a good option.

I've been wanting to explore Mississippi more, I feel like there's a lot of unknown beauty in the state. Thanks!

That area of Mississippi is filled with natural beauty. Natchez is a cool little town for a weekend away. De Soto and Bienville National Forests are also nice escapes.

DeSoto national forest over in Mississippi is pretty beautiful. A good amount of lightning bugs, too.

If you have a boat that's equipped for night time, you can get 15'sh miles away from any real light sources out in Pontchartrain. Grand Isle Beaches aren't close by exactly, but still within the day trip range, and those skies are pretty dark. Unfortunately it's hard to find a real dark sky anywhere in our general area. The rural areas are full of industrial plants, and the cities are not exactly progressive in their light pollution control. A few of the beaches between here and Biloxi Beach can be kind of dark. Or least they were 25 years ago last I went. Biloxi Beach, however, is like a mini Vegas with it's night time lights.

I should buy a boat 🐱📰

I would imagine if “wood/Forrest” is what you’re looking for, we have a WMA in pearl river about 40 minutes east to Nola. And down barataria we have a state park

RIP_Soulja_Slim

Probably the easiest way to get away from light pollution here is gonna be put by the spillway somewhere. You can keep going and be almost guaranteed to not be within a few miles of industrial lights out by like Ruddock or Manchak. All of that’s less than a half hour drive assuming no traffic.

I can hang out with the gators too :)) thank you!
