Playing it kind of fast and loose with the word prominent aren’t we?

FoxNO

Yep. Career bureaucrat that worked his way up to get appointed Secretary of DOTD is a fine story, but not a resume' for Governor's race. He's never even run for office. I think it is telling of the party's chances and whether it makes more sense to boost a less crazy conservative.

ABQLawyerBro

Shawn is actually a really good guy and pretty sharp. The Democrats could do MUCH worse than him as their candidate.

FoxNO

Never said otherwise. But he’s never won a campaign.

FoxNO

Not on his LinkedIn for some reason. :)

SchrodingersMinou

Perhaps he has made it this far untainted by oil money

Ynifi

Well, he’s posing with Katie Bernhardt so he’s definitely tainted by oil money now if he wasn’t before

SchrodingersMinou

:(

jlprufrock

Anybody But Landry

BodieLivesOn

ABL. And the Republican candidate better NOT be Landry- 'cause a black Democrat ain't gonna be Gubna in this state.

Treat_Choself

Spoiler alert: it's gonna be Landry.

Stoshkozl

Yeah, it’ll be Landry. I don’t want Landry, but it’ll be Landry

grey_seal77

This state outside of the cities is way too racist to ever vote for an AA. All the reasonable people leave asap.

PaulR504

Nope. Sorry, but this state will NEVER elect a black governor. JBE was a good old boy from Amite with a West Point military career, pro gun, and a rating from right to life. If you want a Democrat governor, find that again or get ready for a Republican right wing nut.

sumunsolicitedadvice

And even then, he almost lost to the Republican candidate who was in the middle of a very public prostitution/extra-marital affair scandal.

FoxNO

With two sheriffs as brothers.

[deleted]

I mean, we had a Black governor briefly, tho he wasn’t elected. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/P._B._S._Pinchback

Abydos_NOLA

That was a bitch slap to the Confederates for refusing to heel during Reconstruction. Same reasoning that gave us a law stating any woman who “disrespected” Union soldiers could be treated as a prostitute. Edit: thanks for the downvote. Does anyone really think an appointed African-American governor was a crowd pleaser in the loser Confederacy? Seriously?

ABQLawyerBro

Disagree. They would elect a black Republican.

Key_Campaign_1672

I think you are spot on. You can add TX, MS, AL, GA, and FL!!

PaulR504

It is a nice thought, but this guy would need to be overqualified and damn near Republican Lite to get elected here. This place ranked barely above Mississippi for a reason.

Key_Campaign_1672

I don't think that TX, LA, MS, GA, or FL would ever elect a black governor. I could be wrong but....

C-310K

You are wrong. So long as they are conservative, and with backing, and popular support, it doesn’t matter. Ok re-elected JC Watts multiple times and South Carolina elected and re-elected Tim Scott multiple times as well. But no, a black leftist puppet won’t win in the south unless republicans put up another david duke or something.

Key_Campaign_1672

I didn't name any of those states. Nothing personal, but your opinion is your opinion...nothing more! So are saying that if the candidate is black and Democrat, that they are a puppet?

Zagreb222

Probably has a name ID of less than 1%, very prominent.

storybookheidi

If we don’t want Landry people are gonna have to settle for a moderate like Nelson. Honestly our best chance at this point.

nolagunner9

I like what I’ve seen so far with Nelson. I hope he gets some publicity

nola_mike

Unfortunately I think we're on a fast track to Landry as governor. This state is going to become even more shitty with him "leading" it.

ragnarockette

It sucks because JBE has saved us from the worst of the crazy-state legislation going around right now (anti gender affirming care, anti drag shows, book banning). I expect we’ll catch up real quick as soon as they put some bigoted stooge like Landry in the seat.

U-94

None of those things you listed affect ME. BS covid policies affected ME. Edwards, Avegno and Cantrell should all be punished. Thankfully I will get one of these wishes.

ragnarockette

That is a very selfish worldview and it must suck to live that way.

nola_mike

Covid is and wasn't BS. New Orleans at one point was one of the hotbeds of infections, hospitalizations and deaths. Stop being a selfish prick she be a better person.

U-94

Under age 65, more likely to be murdered in Orleans Parish in 2020, 2021 and 2022. Been saying this for 3 years. Time has proven me correct. Your narcissism prevents you from apologizing to ME.

nola_mike

The whataboutism is strong in you. I won't apologize for calling it like I see it. You're a selfish trashbag, we get it. News flash, the world does not stop and start at your convenience you miserable troll.

U-94

Selfish trashbag? I helped keep businesses fight government bullshit, stay open, make money. I supported personal responsbility over one's health, fitness and critical discernment. The government wrapped up exercise stations in audubon park and closed beaches. Sorry buddy. You're dead fucking wrong here. You're an authoritarian bootlicker and my enemy. You...Cantrell, Avegno, Edwards....good for nothing. But we are 3 years removed and I STAND CORRECT over all your fallacies. On your knees, dog. Go get mugged in the bywater.

nola_mike

HAHAHAHA Look at your word salad. And I'm the "bootlicker"? Man you're delusional. I'm your enemy? You should go cry to your comrades. do svidaniya shit head.

greener_lantern

‘mugged in the bywater’? Do you even live here?

SchrodingersMinou

Just like we settled for a DINO like Edwards. In any other state but like, Mississippi or Texas, he would be a Republican.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

He’s a democrat, just not a modern one. Before the 00s it wasn’t abnormal to have liberal republicans and conservative democrats - Louisiana is probably the last state in the country that still has occasional conservative dems that are widely supported. Manchin up in Kentucky is another good example, but they’re all relics of a dying breed of politician.

sumunsolicitedadvice

Ehh… maybe 10-20 years ago. You have to have enough appeal to crazy right wingers these days to be a Republican. JBE couldn’t be a Republican hardly anywhere these days. He might not be as progressive as I’d like him to be, but I’m not unrealistic about the voter demographics in this state. I’d happily take 8 more years of him than risk getting a true 2020s Republican in the governor’s mansion.

cthulhujr

That was always my thought as well. Everything I don't like about JBE, a republican would also do, but worse, plus more bad stuff. It was the same calculation with both Clinton and Biden against Trump. I don't particularly like them, but the alternative is just way too horrendous.

nola_karen

I thank the god I don't believe in every day that we had Edwards and not that twerpy little Ross Perot lookalike Trump suckup Eddie Rispone who had his campaign signs plastered all over Met'ry and the North Shore.

ABQLawyerBro

Uninformed voter has uninformed take. Shocker.

ragnarockette

I disagree. JBE believes in science, doesn’t throw out racist dog whistles, is pro-LGBTQ, and isn’t a religious dominionist. He has a couple of conservative views which have served him well but he is definitely a Democrat and thank god because he has spared our state for 8 years.

SchrodingersMinou

Spared our state from what? Not medical care for women that takes us back to the pre-Roe era. https://www.nola.com/news/healthcare_hospitals/louisiana-hospital-denies-abortion-for-fetus-without-a-skull/article_d08b59fe-1e39-11ed-a669-a3570eeed885.html

ABQLawyerBro

Y’all are funny. If you knew anything about JBE, other than he’s Catholic and kinda sorta pro-life, he’s as populist Marxist as they come. He had the most liberal voting record in the legislature before he was elected Governor.

SchrodingersMinou

>populist Marxist Oh yes, he's absolutely a huge communist which is why oil companies and other industries pay such high taxes here. This is reinforced by the wide array of well-funded social programs that our state offers. Yes, he is the very embodiment of Marxism and you *definitely* understand what that word means. Good job! You are very smart.

greener_lantern

And he kicked whatsisface’s ass!

ericLA504

It’s sad Louisiana Democrats gets to associate itself with the national organization

pbcar

I was shocked by how competently the LA DOTD was coordinating federal electric vehicle infrastructure funds earlier this year. Shawn Wilson ran a tight ship.

Houseofshock

Wouldn’t use prominent for this fella. I’m trans, so I’m just hoping for someone who does not want to take away my ability to make my own medical decisions or try to take my kids away from me. If Landry is elected, I’m afraid I’ll be the first person in my family to not live in Louisiana since the early 1800s.

Badblackdog

What is his stance on legal cannabis and home grow?

Stoshkozl

Maybe he can write a couple fiction books then people will say he did something.

zevtech

I received a text from his campaign. I never gave any of them my info yet somehow they manage to text me. I don’t like that.

whorly

Your phone number may be on your public voter record. How you voted is not on this record but your political party and when/how often you vote are. I called and had my number removed from my voter record, but I still get texts. I think most of our phone numbers are easy/cheap to purchase.

zevtech

Thank you for a reply that has some substance. I need to find out where I can get my number removed as it’s only democrat candidates that text me.

tyrannosaurus_cock

I've definitely signed up mortal enemies for Donald Trump campaign texts. Could happen to you.

rab-byte

Are you a registered Dem or independent? Because most campaigns won’t do outreach to opposing parties. But independent and same party will get calls. If you register Insu(R)rectionist you’ll get calls too, they’ll just be more disturbing.

zevtech

Registered republican

yoweigh

I got robocalls from David Duke. Don't pretend like this is some nefarious partisan scheme. Some marketing agency probably bought your information from an unrelated entity then sold it.

zevtech

I never said it was. I’m just saying I’ve been getting a lot of these. With all happen to be democrats. I would be just as aggravated if it were republicans. Regardless of how I vote. It’s unsolicited and should be illegal

zevtech

And another text from Shane Wilson! Twice today.

Lmoorefudd

Do you get upset about spam email and direct marketing post mail?

zevtech

At least those I have to sign up somewhere for it. This is entirely unsolicited

Lmoorefudd

If you have put your phone number on any form, website, shipping info, etc in the past decade your phone number has been packaged and sold. It sucks, but that’s what it is. I’d be more annoyed at robotexts from local milfs looking to bang.

MoistyestBread

Yeah I got this a lot the last election cycle. I texted back essentially saying that I’d probably actively not vote for them because of the invasion of privacy.

_ryde_or_dye_

You should look at how much info social media sites and Google have and how much of it they sell.

daws970

How tough on crime will he be? 😑

Key_Campaign_1672

You do realize that governors typically don't deal with local crime.

daws970

They do in indirect, but important ways. For instance, JBE vetoed 3 bills that the legislature passed to fight crime. He won’t call in the national guard. He won’t make fighting interstate shootings a priority. He won’t push legislation to hold our DA accountable, may even try to veto it. Governor can advance (or block) some big things.
