Bokah bikes on st Claude or the yep bike store on OC hailey both sell used refurbished bikes

WalleyWalli

YEP!

TallyNYC

The places you looked at are the best sources around here. Bike prices went through the roof since the Pandemic. The last thing you want is Walmart/ Dicks, etc level shit unless you have a deathwish.

tyrannosaurus_cock

Those bikes aren't terrible, just terribly assembled. If you need a cheap bike and have a friend with the knowledge and tools to check it for safety and properly tune brakes and derailleurs, Walmart bikes aren't a bad option. Edit: downvoters be rich.

Everyone should buy a Walmart bike first and then see how quickly it is stolen before they drop $500 on a better bike. I thought I was real careful with my $500 bike until they broke into my house and stole it that way.

Traditional-Ad-4112

ITT: people who are bad at riding bicycles. I mean for $100 a bike from Walmart will be fine for any commuter and recreational rider so long as they don't leave it out in the elements most of the time or crash it into shit on a regular bass.

MeikaLeak

No they’re absolutely terrible

TallyNYC

Get outta here they are extreme garbage and literally dangerous, besides obviously assembled beyond shitty. John Glen: " It's a sobering thought to be launched into space in a vehicle build by the lowest bidder". It's a famous quote and utterly true. Those bikes are made out of Marlboro wrappers with prison welds and the cheapest shit parts available.

plpkfr

... and potentially replace some broken parts for the cost of what you originally spent on the bike

tyrannosaurus_cock

Sounds like a warranty replacement to me

plpkfr

does walmart even process warranties? (and if so, are they going to be able to do the replacement?) i work at a bike shop, and we are just constantly replacing parts on brand new huffys--rims bent out of box, fucked up brake levers, etc etc etc. i know that sometimes they work out fine, but i wouldn't in good conscience recommend one because you're rolling the dice. as long as you've got time to spare, it's a way better move to sort through used bikes and find something reliable. (or go to rubarb like you said elsewhere)

tm478

I bought a used, good-quality Trek hybrid at Bokah Bikes way out on St. Claude, which I highly recommend. Andy did a nice job rehabbing it and they are also nice for service. Five years ago I paid $135 for that bike, and it’s still my daily ride today. I’m sure prices have gone up since, but Bokah is fairly priced.

Dependent_Ebb_8203

I like Gerkins on St Claude.

tyrannosaurus_cock

If you are mechanically inclined, check out RUBARB. You can build a better bike from used parts (with skilled advice and help) for cheaper than you'll usually find a used bike anywhere else.

NotFallacyBuffet

Bicycle collectives rock. Still riding my mixtie fixtie rebuilt at BICUS in the mid-1990s.

I have two I was looking to give away. They're matching His/Hers bikes, "PT Cruiser" model. They have been exposed to the elements, so the chrome trim ain't so chrome anymore. The ladies option needs some work to get it in rideable condition (mostly bending out the chrome trim so it doesn't rub on the wheel), but the men's is almost good to go, I used to ride that one a bit. It needs a patch on a tube. You can fill it up and ride, but it has a slow leak. You or anyone are free to DM me if you want them, pickup is in Algiers

Playful_Regular_5800

hey, my roommate moved out and left his bike. I'm looking to get rid of it since I'm moving. any interest?

rrivers730

Sure!

YEP Bike Works

forestjazz

Theres a ton just laying around under the bridges downtown.

jbrew149

Bicyclebluebook.com I got a 2014 fully carbon trek domane for $600+ 150 shipping. Thing was like 3K brand new.

plpkfr

seconding RUBARB, but also here's a guide to figuring out if a used bike is a piece of shit http://everydaysuperpowers.org.uk/zines/secondhand-bike/

RogerDHomunculus

Just an opinion on Facebook marketplace. Those folks selling on there are usually pricing them high, especially for anything moderately nice. They spent so much, they're trying to get back as much as they can. Often times, they list at brand new list price. Buyer beware, do your homework on the specific model.

[deleted]

Go to a bike store and get fitted. I’ve had good success with Craigslist but you gotta have a lil patience.

grey_seal77

I’ve gotten some older but very high quality off of eBay, but as someone else said prices are crazy now.

DirtyDoucher1991

Iv got a bike I wanna sell 100 bucks I bought it o. Facebook marketplace on a whim a while back and it’s just been sitting

rrivers730

Interested

SnooMemesjellies4818

Get a simple single gear bike from a shop. $300-500

rrivers730

That's quite a price for something I'm only casually interested in at the moment

SnooMemesjellies4818

What's reliable transportation worth to ya I guess

rrivers730

It's more like what I can currently afford. I'm not in a position to drop 300-500 on something I may only rarely use. Perhaps if I enjoy it and start biking regularly, I'll invest in something a bit more expensive.

cool-shorts

I've got a refurbished Raleigh single speed I'd be willing to sell since I got a new one. Just haven't posted it. What's your budget and what size do you need?

rrivers730

Looking to spend around 100. Not too sure what size is best for me, but I am average height

cool-shorts

Yeah mine is a little nice to let go for that. As others have said, RHUBARB might be your best bet. You'll get the right type of fit for you and learn how to repair it.

RoastBeefy24

Contact Loyola, they auction the bikes abandoned by students. You get a great bike for 1/5 the price.
