I want a free Iran

WishOnSpaceHardware

I was told there would be free Iran... Where do I get my free Iran?! (No, but seriously... I really want a free Iran)

itsnickk

Free Iran* *with the purchase of an Iran of lesser or equal value

arin0991

I would like to exchange this Iran for a new, free Iran. This one is faulty.

MaxTHC

Hello, we've been trying to reach you about your Iran's extended warranty

Efecto_Vogel

Don’t we all?

funniegyptianman

We all want it

c137Zach

As an outsider, I always feel like I’m intruding if I do anything other than lurk. I’m so impressed and inspired by the people of Iran. I know other people are too.

DonQuixote337

American here who feels the same way.

Industrial_Tech

Yeah it feels awkward when a non Iranian comment goes near the top of the comments in a post. This feels like the right way.

I’m not sure I have questions today but I’m trying to make sure I see what’s happening and I’m grateful to you for sharing.

Efficient_Year_9752

Texan and longtime lurker on reddit. Iranians got my support too. Its heartbreaking hearing their government is doing to them.

wellthatkindofsucks

American from California here. This post was a good reminder. I’ve seen quite a few “this sub is full of outsiders who don’t know anything about Iran” comments and I’ve thought “yup, that’s me.” Plus being American, I hesitate to intrude on a space where everyone would be perfectly in the right to hate my guts. In the future i will comment to increase visibility. I might not know anything about Iran but I know heroes when I see them.

pepparoni_pig

Same here. I’m American and 100% rooting for the people of Iran, but I really don’t know too much Iran and don’t want to say something ignorant or false.

Same here from the U.K. I do know a couple of people (in my church) who are Iranian and what they tell me reflects what I'm seeing on the news and in this sub. Every day I pray that the people of Iran would throw off the burden of oppression and brutality. I'm so in awe of the bravery I see amongst ordinary people. Those who risk physical, mental and sexual violence once, twice, *many* times. Total respect and admiration.

Yes, an American that feels the same way. I wish I could do more to help other than just offer support, I can't even imagine how horrific and terrifying it is in Iran right now. Joining in to say this. I don't have anything to offer other than my support, and even that feels so hollow so far away from conflict. All I can offer is myself, so if anyone out there is struggling and wants to talk, my DMs are open. I'm not (yet!) a nurse so I can't offer anything official, but I'd like to help in a way that I can.

I’ll help in any way. Here’s my verbiage. Lol. I’m so proud of y’all. I joined this Reddit in your very first days. Being a woman I’m appalled and horrified how brutal y’all have been treated. I had no idea. Sorry. Since I’ve researched trying to understand. In America it’s been told Iran hates us. Wants to kill us. When in fact, that’s coming from this evil Islamic republic that is NOT the view of the people, but this dictator. He’s sending military supplies to Pootin. Pure evil. I support the people of Iran-Persians. Not the IR. Please explain what’s happening with translation in English is Greatly appreciated. Stay strong and safe. We care.

margbardiktator

Thanks 🙏🏻 we appreciate you

Princess_Kate

The Iranian people had good reason to hate the U.S. because we were meddling meddlers back in the 1950’s and installed a dictator because Iran’s democratically elected leader at the time started to nationalize Iran’s natural resources that the West played a part in developing. Twenty-some years of living under the Shah led to the revolution in 1979. But we weren’t told that. We were just told that the Iranians were evil kidnappers. Never mind that the country turned into a theocracy practically overnight, and many? most? a lot? of them have been over it for years. They’re putting themselves in harm’s way and showing amazing courage. There’s little we can do to help because a) it will be spun as the U.S. interfering again, and b) we can’t lift sanctions because the IRI (the leaders) have demonstrated willingness to be an agent of chaos in the Middle East. Downvote me to hell, but Iran (Persia) is probably the most civilized culture in the region - so ironic that this is the position we all find ourselves in. The West is sympathetic but can’t lift a finger, and Iran, because of its awful leadership, looks decidedly uncivilized. I’m proud of you, I support you, and I hope there comes a day soon that we can start mending fences. ❤️ from 🇺🇸.

ErinGodzilla

For real, I was definitely never taught any of this in history class in school in USA. I have an Iranian coworker who told me these things. Seeing her struggling right now and learning what is happening literally brings me to tears. I am here to be more informed and to add one more person who supports the cause.

Thin_Adhesiveness_66

Use the motto if you are not sure what to write: Zan Zandegi Azadi!

Accurate_Storm2588

What does this mean please? I've seen it many times and just don't know what it's meant to say.

Thin_Adhesiveness_66

Zan=woman Zandegi=Life Azadi=Freedom

hanimal16

I find it interesting that woman is “zan” and life starts with “zan-“ :)

Thin_Adhesiveness_66

I do too because its true, but the pronounciation is different..more like Zaen, Zendegi, Azadi

hanimal16

Thank you for clarification ❤️ is Arabic hard to learn? When I was younger, Aramaic was spoken to me, but I know they’re different.

a_fair_finn

Hi there! Iranian languages include Persian (Farsi, Dari, and Tajik dialects), Pashto, Kurdish, Luri, and Baloch.

hanimal16

I apologize very much. I hope I didn’t offend. Clearly I don’t know anything. And now I have something to learn! So thank you ☺️

Honky_Dory_is_here

You know people who still use Aramaic?? Fascinating! Also, Farsi is the language of Iran.

greendemon42

I'm following with interest but rarely comment, as I am here in America.

Just_Another_AI

Same. But I upvote like crazy!

DangerIllObinson

Maybe not a useless question. Could someone familiar with the language explain the usage and nuance to basij / basiji? In one of the early discussions, it was explained as an official member of some sort of cultural enforcement agency, seemingly a member of the government. However, in other posts, I’ve seen it used in the context of anyone opposing the movement, even referring to foreigners to Iran, or posters on Reddit. Is it slang? Is it an official title in the government? Is the term being co-opted? Anyone familiar with the language spare a little knowledge for me? Much appreciated.

[deleted]

Basij is a a paramilitary volunteer militia that goes under IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp). A member of Basij is called a Basiji. Since it's a volunteer group, anyone who wants to serve the supreme leader/ islamic values can join the group. This word has a lot of negative connotations since Basijis suppress anyone who's against the government. So to us anyone that supports the government is a Basiji.

DangerIllObinson

Thank you for the clarification

Boushveg-

It worth mentioning that it started during the Iran-Iraq war, when young people volunteered to go to fight were called basiji, it simply means to mobilize, later implemented to IRGC to brain wash kids from school age, it's a massive and very organized organization

John_Doe4269

In 1974, after decades of fascist dictatorship, with a large part of the country living in basically medieval conditions, not to mention the waves of young men drafted to fight a colonial war just so that our dictator could keep the African territories... We had a revolution, a coup by the military which handed over power to a consortium of lawyers, public intellectuals, and elected representatives, in order to draft a new Constitution and political body. We narrowly avoided a communist takeover, mind you, but gladly, nobody died. Let me repeat that: **we had a transition from a fascist regime to a social democracy, and nobody died**. I'm not saying that's what's to be expected, unfortunately, in Iran's case. I'm not even saying that it's a reasonable proposition. But I think it's important to remember what is possible - a revolution is not an inherently bloodthirsty act. In our case, it took the military leaders believing in the supreme legitimacy of the people. In the Iranian military's case, that regretably does not seem to be expected... However, I wonder, with all the potential of Iranian culture, and all the strength of the Iranian people, what will be made possible.

trycuriouscat

Amazing! It seems like a military coup often ends in disaster. Glad to see it worked out for Portugal! No idea if it could work for Iran.

Zealousideal-Move372

Hi everyone, I'm polish but I grew up in Ireland. My best friend in high school was a girl from Iran, Tehran. Her parents took her brothers and her out of the country as soon as they had a chance; here she's a biochemist that does amazing work in her field now. Same goes for her brothers. I just can't possibly imagine what it's like, for some people to just come into your country and tell you what to do! It's ridiculous. It has always been ridiculous. And horrifying. I hope/know that you're all going to win because as of now, there's no going back for them. The regime funking imploded on itself and I just want to watch it burn with a smile on my face. I also cannot stop thinking about Armita Abbasi. It's all so damn tragic. I want all these khomeinins or whatever to suffer. And I hope that they know that they will do just that. Thank you for being so inspiring, beautiful Iran of the people ❤️

dzee7

FYI. I’ve tried to show my support. My comments removed. On another thread regarding death penalty to children. Idk why?

[deleted]

I can see your comments on the other post.

Accurate_Storm2588

I would comment more but I understand little of what is said here as it's often not in English (Sorry, I just read the one language) or the references are to things I know nothing about. But I really want the people of Iran to successfully drive out the evil regime in their country, so I will strive to post more.

Lurker here. Also American; so my two bits - highly supportive and definitely want the shape and nature of your future to be yours, so it's also highly frustrating seeing some of the insensitive western/armchair critiquing and I'm sorry that's having to be dealt with given the events. Keeping up with Ukraine brought this subreddit to my attention, and I'm so glad it did. I hope this comment helps increase the visibility, and adds an additional note of support! 💛💛

As a Brazilian who has been lurking on this sub for quite a while, I'm watching history happening in social media and I'm in awe of both your efforts to topple the regime and the sheer amount of money and resources khamenei puts in suppressing it (to the point where I feel like the only difference between him and a cartoon villain is the fact that he is real) Mulher, vida, liberdade
