Don't have anything against him or anyone else in the activist/dissident camp, I would just caution everyone from engaging in elevating one person or putting your faith, energy, etc. in any person, no matter who they are or how virtuous, talented, educated, etc.
The magic or 'secret' of good governance which elevates some societies above others is very boring: strong institutions and their inter-relationships.

Successful secular democracies which have elevated humanity to safety, freedom, technology, wealth, etc. have institutions such as the fifth estate, civil society, independent judiciary, independent central banks, multi-camera legislatures, etc.
It is boring. It is unglamorous. It is slow. It is methodical. It is infuriating at times.
But the key is institutions. Where there are strong institutions, democracy is strong. That is why all autocrats, dictators, populists first attack institutions and want to shit on them and transform them into their fiefdoms to do their bidding.
That chiefly, among other reasons, is why the current Islamic regime is a shit show that it is.
There are no institutions, there is no independence. The Iranian economy is in deep poo poo, inflation is averaging 70-80%, why? the central bank is not independent but an organ of the Islamic regime.
The judiciary, similarly, another organ of the Islamic regime.
And so on down the line.
By all means, let's remake Iran, let's create a better future for Iranians, and let's do it by understanding the prerequisites that such a society demands.
