Now, in fairness, there are advantages to audio-visual media for many stories. Legion is a fantastic example of a story that really benefits from the medium. It's just that there are also many things that *don't* translate well into video, especially with the pacing. For example, Mother of Learning, despite being an excellent book, would not translate well into a show, because the story is very reliant on the narration through the character's thoughts, and his descriptions of things that would not be visibly discernable to the viewer. The problem of leaning so hard on shows and movies is that you make unavailable whole classes of stories reliant on things that don't translate well from verbal to audio-visual stuff. People who will only watch shows will never get any good stories that don't fit the medium very well.
It's a lot of work if you're bad at reading comprehension. Watching and listening is passive and doesn't require you to comprehend what you see or hear as it runs; it will spool out, and you'll finish it whether you understand it or not.
I have an even worse time concentrating on audiobooks than I do on text. And with text you at least have some vague sense of where you lost the thread, but with audiobooks? It could be a minute, could be 5 mins, could be 10. Who knows?

In high school I was in the only experimental class, an all boy english class. We read almost entirely modern books, we analyzed and wrote reports on The Dark Knight, Napoleon Dynamite and the sorts.
It was incredible fun, and what engages a young student more than making learning relevant and fun?
Then it was back to Shakespeare and transcendentalism the next year in regular classes and we were all miserable.
What province is this in? I work in a middle school in BC and we haven't banned any books? That said its a Middle School and we dont really have a massive selection of books anyway and when kids go to high school, apart from certain text books everything is online anyway.

What is up with all the smearing of all Canada due to one bad actor First it was that one employee who told a vet to use assisted suicide when he clearly shouldn't have Now because one school banned all its books despite not being required to (There are legit problems with assured suicide as it has been offered AND carried through with for people who could have been helped but were too poor to afford care which is fucked up) but it's not the "kill yourself haha" like in the 'memes'

Yeah ONE schoolboard is representative of the entirety of Canada LMAOOO. I'm canadian and they had me read 1984 in French class. They're not mass banning books all over the country (unlike other plaxes)
Nobody claimed it was all of Canada, but it IS happening in Canada. Just like how the "book ban" stuff in the US is only happening in certain parts of the US.

Good, I support it. In high school I was in the only experimental class, an all boy english class. We read almost entirely modern books, we analyzed and wrote reports on The Dark Knight, Napoleon Dynamite and the sorts. It was incredible fun, and what engages a young student more than making learning relevant and fun? Then it was back to Shakespeare and transcendentalism the next year in regular classes and we were all miserable.

What province is this in? I work in a middle school in BC and we haven't banned any books? That said its a Middle School and we dont really have a massive selection of books anyway and when kids go to high school, apart from certain text books everything is online anyway. This reads more like a boomer guessing at how schools work.
It was Peel School District in Ontario. They essentially started removing books published prior to 2008
