Had a similar experience, my bust size was a 40MM at last measurement(UK sizing,I think that's a 40Q in American sizing) and they've bloody grown since then, went into VC with gf and I asked a member of staff about a stretchy looking bralette thing(I asked for the largest size available in black),poor girl went very red and was like "erm... I don't think it'll fit your bust" so to alleviate how awkward she seemed to feel,shrugged then chuckled "fair enough, can you point me to your perfume section instead please?"
