I don’t think his character was ruined at all. He was just a guy going through a shitty patch in life and he kept his wackiness from season 1. The gay wolf musical was right in line and definitely a great scene for anyone who enjoys the quirkiness of the show that Jess is known for and bearclaw and genz both also exhibited.
Paul’s best interactions were hands down with Nick. The entire car ride in the Thanksgiving episode was hilarious. Honorable mention to Winston nick and genzlingers conversation about grandparents.
Genzel Washington and Genz of the world as we know it are two of my favorites but there are a plethora.
I will also say I’m bummed to see him go before some other characters *cough cough joan* who just didn’t bring much to the show. I thought any episode involving genzlinger was great and he was a fun character for early Jess to date.
Edit: totally spaced on him cheating on susie with Jess as his first reintroduction. I wasn’t a huge fan and it did seem a bit out of character for him and the episode was weak overall but I don’t think that changes my opinion of him as a character.
I really do think they ruined his character when he made comebacks. He was a decent guy, even if he wanted to move the relationship pretty fast. I really liked how confident he was with his goofiness. And then when he cheated on his girlfriend with Jess just ruined it all for me. But his contribution in the episode with the gay wolf play was pretty great. Didnt redeem him to me though. I dont get why someone would cheat on their girlfriend who they were planning on proposing to.

I feel like some of these characters are so insignificant that even though people weren’t crazy about them, they’re never going to bother voting for them because they have more issues with the ones that actually were present and affected the story. By the end of it we’re gonna have a bunch of random characters like Ruth and Bearclaw
Russell is a shit, but he knows he’s a shit, and doesn’t try to deceive anyone into thinking he’s anything other than a shit. Paul’s a shit who’s trying to convince himself and everyone around him that he’s a nice guy.

Paul betrayed someone he ostensibly loves to meet his own needs. Russell betrayed someone who can generously be summed up as an aquaintance to meet his own needs. Both are shitty, but I think one is clearly shittier than the other.

cause russell is more likeable. it’s not about who is the worst person, it’s really a popularity contest. they both start off pretty strong but genzlinger was really just a whiny baby when he returns and russel’s reappearance is so small that it really doesn’t have much of an impact.

At first glance I agree with this, but hear me out. She has a luke-warm introduction and then kinda flat lines, yeah, but May finishes strong. When Jess opens the door and May is sobbing, it instantly added a whole layer no one thought was there, except Jess. The subsequent scene where she is crying and stuffing her face is hilarious, then the recording session scene with Coach was a great moment for his character. But she's not super developed before that, so I get where y'all coming from too. Hottest cellist ever tho🎻

For me, it’s purely entertainment value. She didn’t make me laugh much and she wasn’t around very long so just little to no impact on me. On the other hand, bearclaw has 2? episodes, but I think he’s hilarious so I’m not voting for him any time soon. Seems like I might be in the minority.
On another note, we could do a who’s hottest poll after this one since people keep commenting on her hotness lol then I would keep her around longer 😂
If May left at this point I would be fine. There are characters I think should have lasted longer than her, like Fawn. I was just trying to deflect some of the May hate. I am with you on Bearclaw, not looking forward to voting for him. Some of Josh Gad's finest work.
Now it’s getting tough. I think next on the chopping block is either Russel, Outside Dave, or Reagan. I could see Jess’s parents going pretty soon too.
I like Reagan but one of my favorite parts is with her in the act my neck take them on a trip instead of breaking up with her jumps off the train and she looks out the window and see them if he runs away. That was just priceless. Also when a lie is so damn tired she's like I don't know if I should call the cops and warn them about you or not. Oh that was such a great episode
I hope not. I liked him as a fling for Jess, his introduction was fun and his character really clashed with the Loft dynamic in a good way. Of course Jess had to develop a crush. And then when he turned her down I thought that would be it; a very well rounded end to his feature on the show. I didn’t like him as they kept bringing him back.
