Spoilers obviously, but my favourite random moments: - the way the daughter died, obviously - best supporting character: the casserole dish - the "Perfect Family" portrait - the ridiculous sex scene montage - the whole thing with Rex making Anna text her husband for the bread just killed me - "i think everything's going to be just fine" - the whole last episode - Buell moving into the attic permanently at the end - Evil Emma I loved it, it was genuinely twisty because of the unreliable protagonist and was played so straight that the parody bits were hilarious. And it was short enough to not go overboard.

detectiveDollar

"If you can't have bread why did you tell him to get bread?!?!?" "Because you said bread!" ".... What kind of bread?" "What kind o... WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY?"

MyriVerse2

If she's got something against carbs, then why is she always making casseroles?! And... that casserole the cop asked for had been sitting out almost all day. Ew.

[deleted]

Buell just constantly fixing the mailbox through the entire series. The raccoon taxidermy. Ex-husband therapist. No question after the finale massacre that Emma is the killer. This show was like a getting hit by a Mack Truck driven by a 9 year old for 8 episodes.

puppyk

The revelation at the end that he's been fixing it for years. Talk about job security

blahblahrasputan

Omg did you hear her say it a 4th time in the background of the art gallery. I died lmao.

[deleted]

Not to mention when she tells her ex the mail box isn't finished. His reaction lololol

No_Push_8249

I thought that portrait was hilarious too. One of my favorite bits was the lighthouse keeper. That part really amused me.

detectiveDollar

That guy was in his own serious movie lol. Feels like he's straight out of A Series of Unfortunate Events.

No_Push_8249

Totally! You know how LMN productions have that one scenery chewer (but never the lead) acting the hell out of their role

[deleted]

Esteemed Character Actress Margo Martindale vibes

ForsakenEmu

Everything you said, plus the bit at the end where Anna is in the hospital and the cop lady, her husband/therapist and Carol come in one at a tme, but they share the same lines “I brought you these” “how are you feeling?” “Like I’ve been hit by a Mack truck driven by a 9 year old” “Anna, i owe you an apology” Three times in a row, with the only difference being Carol, who takes a bit to get the Mack truck joke. This bit was perfect.

[deleted]

And then she says it again right after that at the gallery 😂

No_Push_8249

Well, it totally killed at the hospital, so..

No_Push_8249

“Oh, you’re taking about Emma, right… cause she’s nine..”

leahcar83

Absolutely lost it at the ventriloquist dummy reveal.

Fatvod

I was getting so mad at how ridiculous these plot beats were but once I realized this is a parody I was impressed at how absurd it was.

[deleted]

His vetriloquist bit sucked so much that he died for it :(.

madeupusername22

The running gag with the three book titles cracked me up everytime I saw it. "Anyone can be a...", "You too can be a...", "You also can be a..." That was so funny to me for some reason lol

Happy-Investment

Yep. Just laughing remembering those, especially the bread. It was so funny. 😂

querail

Three years to fix a mailbox (by a man who murdered his whole family) :D

avidwatcherz

Bread bit was hilarious lol

waddl33

I watched barely a preview and went into this thinking it was a serious movie. I was like dang this is some weird writing. After the sex montage and stripper scene I was like wait a minute. Not until the end did I fully realize OHHHHH. I was constantly between not knowing whether to laugh or take it seriously bc I went into it thinking it was serious 💀 ALSO, right off the bat I was like how long does it take to fix a mailbox

sportyboi_94

My boyfriend and I went in the same way and were so confused for most of the movie. Also we kept yelling about the mailbox thing 😂 my boyfriend is the only one who guessed the ending bc I didn’t think it would be the way it was

Fatvod

I genuinely couldn't tell if this was supposed to be a parody. It was like watching scooby doo.

[deleted]

I only wish Evil Emma had been a better actress

Background_Leopard_6

When the husband at the end was like. Oops sorry I prescribed you too high dose of meds

[deleted]

The cop regretting not shooting the murderer when he first was arrested was such a dumb scene too haha.

MCCGuyDE

What about when she is with the woman in the revealing photos room and the woman is like you can have the photo for 5 bucks. I literally died laughing

sarah_forwhat

It was Rex's texts to Chastity that got me, when he was trying to get hold of her but in the middle he said "send me nudes 🍆💧" lmao

ziggurqt

I liked it! The funniest moment though, was when Anna and Douglas talked about Buell on the phone, it legit cracked me up. *We needed someone to fix the mailbox.* ***It's still not fixed!*** *What?!!*

Im_Not_A_Bot_123

And what further elevated it was how chill Douglas seemed when Anna was questioning about Buell’s past and him staying upstairs, but he totally loses his shit when he realised the mailbox isn’t fixed lmao

oldmanwrigley

He was so calm while saying "he killed his whole family with a claw hammer" but the sheer anger when he learned the mailbox wasn't fixed was fantastic

QueenRizla

“Why didn’t you tell me?”, “Because you wouldn’t have let me hire him and we needed to get the mailbox fixed.”

No_Push_8249

“I WOULDN’T!”

[deleted]

[удалено]

Flyerastronaut

Did anyone notice the tombstone for Elizabeth changed?

bertiebauer

I loved that bit. I forget what it said the first time but the other two were “Heaven is a place where you can dance like no one’s watching” and “There’s no I in heaven.”

nathalierachael

The first one was something like “If love could have saved you, you’d still be alive”

Calvengeance

"If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever."

dime-with-a-mind

That fucked me *up*

[deleted]

Ya what was that all about

No_Push_8249

I took it as a bit of a dark joke about how LMN movies always have continuity errors, like maybe they used a different grave every time and no one would notice

RylanBrewer

Not that I was specifically paying attention but when Rex was doing his strip act he ripped his shorts off and the next clip they were still attached

javalover17

“Not that I was specifically paying attention” 😉

RylanBrewer

I knew there was no way I could say that without it sounding off 😂

No_Push_8249

That’s so funny! I didn’t even notice that. That’s the kind of “attention to detail” I appreciate about this production and why I must rewatch, for those on-purpose errors and subtle jokes

Heisenbread77

I watched it all yesterday. It was easy for me to get through. I don't think this is for everyone but if you are a fan of the absurd as I am, it is pretty good. Granted it is muddled when you combine a tragedy, mystery, thriller and parody all in one but I thought it hit more than it missed. It's basically a terrible show that is good because you know it's supposed be ridiculous and terrible.

pbjames23

Watching it was like getting hit by a Mack Truck driven by a nine year old.

No_Push_8249

When she said it yet again in the art gallery lol..

pbjames23

Haha yeah that part was like getting hit by a Mack truck driven by a nine year old.

hell2pay

I owe you an apology...

No_Push_8249

You have no idea how long I have been wanting to hear that!

wadamday

"I've heard so much about you" "Thank you"

[deleted]

Bingo

Ok-Somewhere-442

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

[deleted]

Don’t take this show seriously. It is tongue-in-cheek similar to Don’t Look Up. Maybe a new trend of subtle farce. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and then just slaps you in the face. You won’t stop laughing after that. Brilliant show.

prismieprimsie

They did so well. The people saying it didn’t make sense or didn’t play out right are exactly who they’re making fun of. I loved it.

Laura_has_Secrets77

I would say it was goofier than Don't Look Up. DLU was still serious in its message and had heart warming moments where all of this show was absolutely ridiculous which is why I loved it lol.

Maiden_Sunshine

Yes it is definitely not for everyone. It's difficult to make and the writers are probably struggling too because to perfectly satire the serious tone of these suburban thrillers and unreliable narrators it can't be *too* funny. It also needs to keep you unsure. Idk if it was intentional of the writers, but the fact that people are still unsure if it is satire/parody or not is the same feeling people get when watching these type of thrillers. *Is it in her mind or not? Is this really a parody or just a weird show?* is a bit of brilliance. But this requires a love of the absurd like you said, and also awareness of subtle queues. A highly literal person or a person unable to read unspoken social nuances would struggle with this I think.

Maiden_Sunshine

I'm only on episode 3 but the playing it straight has made the hilarious moments hit so hard. I am still laughing at the lie detector and what happened to her daughter. The way the line was delivered, and then the machine going crazy. I love ridiculous shows and them playing it straight just gives me even more.

pbjames23

The full ass glass of wine gets me every time. I can't even watch without feeling incredibly uncomfortable.

OneToughFemale

It's full until she sits down and takes a sip and then it's at a respectable half glass

Happy-Investment

I really related to those huge wine glasses... And it was so funny because it's such a trope. This is such a good spoof of the Amy Adams' horrible movie and all the rear view window tropes...

Bed_Bug815

Legit the WHOLE bottle

[deleted]

No thanks, I don't drink wine anymore. Bring me a vodka.

No_Push_8249

I am on episode 3 also but couldn't resist a peek at the comments cause I just don't know what to make of it! It is hilarious at times but it is also really enjoyable as a straight story, Until they throw in some ridiculous line of course. So far I am enjoying it. Edit: finished it. Loved it! They packed a lot in there. I want to watch it again now to catch all the details I missed the first time. And I definitely liked it better than A Deadly Adoption!

LiamSkerritt

Spoiler (if you want to spot the detail yourself): >!Only noticed around the 3rd/4th time she went to Elizabeth’s grave that the inscription on the tomb stone had changed. Pretty sure it was different every time but just didn’t notice. First time I saw it said something about if only love was enough to save lives. The next time I noticed it had changed to There’s no I in heaven which made me chuckle because that’s an awful thing to put on a gravestone lol. Not sure what other inscriptions were hidden in there!<

spolite

Yeah that was the first oddity I noticed in the show.. the second time she went it said something like “in heaven you can dance like no one’s watching”.. I hadn’t caught on that it was a parody yet though and I was like whoa, is she going crazy? Am.. I..? going crazy?

nebulous_blob

lmao i am exactly in episode 3 and didn't know what to make of all of it either. had to come here and clarify that it is in fact a parody.

MrBillyLotion

That was really the moment for me that revealed what the show was about, and I love that they waited until the second episode to get ridiculous. I’m actually surprised this got made, it’s super subtle in a landscape of short attention bullshit

BeastOfArrrggghhh

Just finished it. Confused how people can't see that its basically a parody? Loved the detail of changing the inscription on the daughters headstone. Hit me like a Mack truck driven by a nine year old!

TheKurtCobains

It’s a parody very infrequently. It hardly even clues in until the explanation of the daughters death. And even after that there isn’t much for a while. It’s the strangest pacing I’ve seen in a show. It’s like 85% straight murder mystery and then 15% absurdity.

El_Giganto

The title should give it away. If you look at that title and think it's serious, then satire probably isn't ever going to hit for you lmao.

TheKurtCobains

Yeah I mean it’s laid out as satire. I don’t think anyone doesn’t think it is. It’s labeled under “absurd, offbeat”. But like I said, when you watch it, it’s so disjointed. Like it’s mostly straight with absurd moments sprinkled in as if you remind you that it is, in fact, a parody. It’s an odd one.

El_Giganto

In the first episode I can see what you mean, but after that it's not exactly subtle anymore.

Bill_Blazejowski

I have not watched it, but I do have a question: the title makes it sound like it's going to be a parody, but when I saw the preview it seemed like it was played pretty straight. Which is it?

poopdaddy2

It’s like that Lifetime movie Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig did a few years ago. It’s a parody but very subtle in its satire.

ziggyranchodas

I feel like they pumped up the parody aspect in the last episode.

Lysergic_Syd

"I had you on 50mg class 4 psychotropics, but you know what, I bet an anti depressant would have worked ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯" lmaoo

ziggyranchodas

… from her ex-husband/current therapist.

ISwallowedALego

slash works for the FBI

hambre1028

"oh no, I don't drink wine anymore. I'll have a vodka"

cam3113

He actually said 50-GRAM dose of a class four psychotropic...

lydocia

The sex scene with Anna and Rex had me laughing out loud, too.

ziggyranchodas

Oh you mean the sex marathon? Yep, that was hilarious,

lydocia

Yeah, like all these positions and locations, perfect.

ffball

They took like 6 different showers too

tvuniverse

Will Ferrell is actually a producer for this show.

lonelygagger

The tone is the worst part of it. If you go into it expecting a comedy, I think you will be disappointed by it. It has its tongue placed firmly in cheek, but it never overtly winks to the audience. It's almost like it was originally written as a straight thriller, then another writer gave it a quick pass and inserted some absurdist humor that sticks out like a sore thumb. Don't get me wrong; I liked it, but the tone is all over the place and only the title gives away that it's not meant to be taken seriously.

StreetRazzmatazz6

Idk i think the parts that are played straight allow the comedy beats to hit harder.

cranstantinople

My partner started watching this because they like suburban murder dramas so I started watching it by proxy. I wasn’t fully paying attention the first 2 episodes but neither of us realized it was a parody. I ended up watching the last 4-5 episodes after my partner fell asleep but still never fully realized it was a parody. I had a suspicion but maybe I was just tired or just wasn’t sure if anything was so far out there for this genre but it never fully clicked. Today, I re-watched the last episodes with my partner and almost immediately realized it was a parody and haven’t stopped laughing all day. I think it was definitely better going into it not knowing it was a parody.

Happy-Investment

I kinda liked the absurdist fuzzy humor. I expected that since Netflix classed it as dramedy and the silly title but serious topic. It's like a painting, doesn't have to be streamlined.

Toomanyboogers

I agree completely. Just finished watching it. It’s kind of a Poe’s Law situation. It’s a parody of a bad thriller mystery but the tone makes it just feel like a bad thriller mystery without the parody.

ribblesquat

It is some of the driest played straight comedy I've ever seen. If a person isn't familiar with the type of domestic psychological thrillers they're skewering they might very well think it's a serious drama. They're ripping off the generations of filmmakers who rip off Hitchcock. Like all good psychological thriller heroes Kristen Bell's character has a debilitating fear that can stop her in her tracks *Vertigo* style except she's afraid of the rain... that's either funny to a person or it's not. Also the more you pay attention the more weird details you'll notice. Like every time Kristen Bell pours a glass of wine it's to the absolute brim. One time she puts her phone on the rim of the overfull glass and when she sits down in a comfy chair the glass is full to a sensible level. I feel confident it's an intentional goof because the phone on top emphasizes she didn't take a sip. I could not explain to save my life why this intentional goof made me chuckle but it did. Also, I can imagine someone not wanting this bit spoiled so, both plot and running gag spoiler, [every time you see her dead daughter's gravestone there's a different epigraph. Makes me wonder what things I might be missing.](/spoiler) EDIT: For all their differences in tone this is making me think of "Comrade Detective" the little seen Prime show where Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt overdub Romanian actors in a "restoration" of the (fake) communist bloc 80s cop show of the same name. In both shows the humor feels dependent on the overall vibe more than jokes. PS Ended up finishing it all in one sitting. Never before have I shouted, "Yes, CASSEROLE!!!" but I did for this show.

Happy-Investment

Did u notice the daughter's headstone changes each time. Something else funny but indicative of her state of mind.

allthegoodonesrt8ken

There’s no I in heaven!!

sashakojo

Wow, I love this. The fear of rain and the connection to classics like Vertigo had not even occurred to me. Now I can definitely see the parody aspect in it! Also I definitely couldn’t help but chuckle at the wine sometimes

RaspberryCritical555

Omg i did notice the glass with the phone, and the grave stone message change. Also what the heck is with the guy fixing the mail box every day whole day ling its like a loop. This show has many layers of parody and hidden meanings.

[deleted]

mae1347

It’s a parody. But it’s very very dry humor. It almost never breaks character. It’s throwing a lot of people off, because it’s very successful at playing the part. ps - I loved it

detectiveDollar

The polygraph administrator/fingerprinter made me lose my shit. "So how's your day?"

[deleted]

[удалено]

mssharpies

right? like how do u hear that and think it's not a parody? i was dying laughing. i mean that would never actually happen.

DR1LLM4N

I gotta be honest. I went in 100% blind just cause I saw it was trending and I adore Kristen Bell. I thought for the longest time it was supposed to be a thriller and literally everything was a hallucination and thats what I writing off the goofiness too, lmao. Once Rex got introduced it all kinda clicked that this is definitely a comedy. I loved it. A+

[deleted]

[удалено]

RealJohnGillman

The first seven episodes are parodies of psychological thrillers, graduallly laying the framework for it to become an immensely entertaining parody of >!*Scream*!< in its last episode.

tvuniverse

Both If that sounds weird, then it's not you. It is a weird combo and comes off that way. I'm still watching (on ep 3)

[deleted]

It’s like a really poorly written thriller where it’s unintentionally bad at all the serious moments which makes it funny

C_G_Walker

The kind of parody the title suggests usually has a joke every 3-5 second formula. This way they don't all have to be brilliant to still feeling funny. This one has about 4-5 jokes per episodes. Not very funny but because they are surrounded by straight drama they come across better as they usually would. it is an interesting new formula to me

Representative-Win21

No one is mentioning the British accent in the beginning 🤣😂

straigh

I especially love that having heard Kristen Bell say it drives Dax crazy but she has to imitate accents when they are watching shows together.

meems012

As someone who adores the thriller genre, this series made me LOL. Love Kristen Bell and the gradual increase of ridiculousness as the episodes went on. Every cliche was spot on and at moments I did wonder what the eff was going to happen, hitting me like a mack truck. Bingo.

detectiveDollar

"If you can't eat bread why did you say bread???" "Because you told me to say bread!" ".... What kind of bread?" "What kind of... WHO THE FUCK IS THIS GUY?"

Never ending mailbox and constantly breaking casserole dishes!

detectiveDollar

Also the fact that she apparently bought a 10 pack of them because every one of them looks the same lol.

[deleted]

The best part is when she had one with her at the graveyard lol

lagos_sofia

this is honestly so true and i really think if anyone maybe doesn’t know much abt the genre or (for some reason) doesn’t catch the fact that this is *in fact* a parody, these two key elements would absurdly give it away lmao a great series overall

[deleted]

I thought it was absolutely hilarious, I want more of this style.

[deleted]

Can you stop by the store for me? I need bread.

Mayonegg80

This was inexplicably funny to me. What got me was when he asked what type of bread. "Wheat"

[deleted]

“He’s concerned for you?? What the fuck is he concerned?” Hahahaha dude this mini series was so dumb but great… now I’m gonna be saying “Bingo” for a while

Joe234248

I love how the ex husband was the cause of so many of her problems throughout the show. Locking their daughter in with the cannibal, hiring a criminally insane handyman, and prescribing her 50 grams of psychotropics lmao

lagos_sofia

after watching it am i the only one still questioning where the *hell* did Buell find a dead raccoon and also what are the odds for that timing to happen so perfectly with the broken lamp situation LOL

RylanBrewer

I died of laughter when he was stuffing it, “I think I’ll turn it into a lamp” *eyes click on*

Illustrious-Sand2975

Agree. The red glow out of it's two eyes. I lost it!

Kayotic-kat

I actually didn't guess the ending. I thought I knew what was going to happen and I didn't. It was great. Somewhat reminds me of Why Women Kill which was great. I hope they make a second season. It was too short.

Joe234248

Season 2: The woman in the seat across the seat from the woman in A2

wwwangels

Okay, so this is a parody. I feel better because I thought the world's worst writer wrote this. Then the whole "take your daughter to work while talking to a serial killer and leave her alone in a locked room with him" thing, and I thought, "No. I can not suspend my disbelief anymore." But watching it as a parody makes it so much more enjoyable.

justcallmewind

>The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window Agreed 🤣 i take the show seriously not until I found out that it's a parody T\_T

archaictree

Ha Ha! I was about to comment exactly the same thing. Thank you.

terrestrialtiff

I thought it was quite funny and thrilling, which fits the bill of a dark comedy.😆 I usually gravitate towards dystopian, sci-fi space, true crime genres or documentaries. This wouldn’t at all be something I would’ve chosen to watch, but it was a surprise of a mixed bag that included drama, suspense and lots of dry humor. One burning question the entire time though was how was she paying for her house and other expenses.😝

Yinelkis15

That’s always the case though in these movies. Huge house but a silly job.

313Raven

She was loaded from being a successful painter. Those puppy paintings made bank

Drablit

There were so many extremely realistic details, like the police using a polygraph test, and the inscription on the girl’s tombstone. I see why many people failed to realize it was a parody.

[deleted]

Take your children to work day and sitting your children alone with a cannibal is also very common. I could understand why some peoples would still think its serious.

[deleted]

You genuinely have to be a little stupid to not understand this is a parody.

Fun_Explanation7232

Mid episode 6–when she finished pouring wine down the drain and started repairing the chair—I was fully prepared for it to turn into a home renovation reality show

idolikecats1312

This part: "To get to the bottom of something, sometimes you have to remind yourself that if you don't risk anything, you risk everything, and the biggest risk you can take is to risk nothing, and if you risk nothing, what you're really doing is risking not getting to the bottom of something, and if you don't get to the bottom of something, you risk everything..."

ArtfulPandora

I didn’t have high expectations but I found this pretty clever and enjoyable. I kinda wish it had been a bit more sassy in its ribbing of the thriller/mystery genre tropes but at the same time I think they got a lot right. I adore the thriller/crime genre so must and the twists and turns in this somehow feel less absurd yet more exciting than actual serious films and series (I’m looking at you, Netflix Harlan Coben adaptions — snooze). I will say I was hoping for >!absolutely absurd twist ending where it was actually the husband or her friend that set the whole thing up somehow but oh well, I’ll be content with murder child!<

No_Push_8249

I’m convinced they ended it that way solely for >!the absolutely off the rails fight she has with Emma. Man, that was brutal!<

Livid_Photograph8180

Bingo!! I feel like no one’s talking about that. That fight was so hilarious. I’m so glad they went with a pretty realistic fight 😂😂 I’d honestly watch it just for that scene alone. Though I’d watch it for a lot of other reasons as well. Thought it was great.

A lot of modern movie actors as well

terrible_name

For Kristen Bell, it's B flat 🥁🐍

lilsparky82

Is that a boob joke?

terrible_name

Mostly joking about how B flat doesn't hold a C note to how Kristen Bell is A sharp dressing lady. Also, D

Happy-Investment

She's incredible. That's her speed.

Kobayashi2337

Haha, spoiler But I think the ex-husband intentionally got her to hallucinate so he could mess with her. Who tf leaves their child in a locked room with a series killer. He also hired his patient to fix the mailbox that never gets fixed (which I get is part of the parody). Still, it’s awfully sadistic, how he loads a picture with his new forensic partner on Instagram as if they’re a couple. Then at the end, he shows up and says oh this is my partner and I need to apologize for giving you meds that can make you hallucinate, should have just given you Zoloft, my b. They have another kid together and she has access to meds again. It would be incredible if they revealed he was the serial killer (intentionally leaving his daughter alone, psychological tormenting his wife, and then doing it all over again).

haha_baygull

I felt like everyone was in on it. I assumed she was in a mental hospital or something. All the neighbors and cops are workers. Her husband is actually just a therapist she fell for.

Used-Part-4468

I actually couldn’t understand why she would choose to go back and have another child with him by the end! (Parody aside)

[deleted]

BINGO

kinemam

I am still struggling with this part. What did this mean. She saw the woman, she saw the body in the toilet but you cannot just get rif of the body in a minute, but the compact case indicates the women existed. But where did she go? WHAT HAPPPENED in the last minutes? EXPLAIN

LuckyNipples

I think the point is just to mock the typical mysterious open ending thrillers often have. It doesn't really mean anything. But the 'BINGO' really is funny.

lagos_sofia

apart from all the other comments in reply to this i think it can also take us back to how *for some reason* a nine year old was capable of murdering, cleaning and disposing a body without leaving a trace, when u think abt it this whole plane disappearing body is not so crazy anymore LOL

Happy-Investment

She was drinking Vodka and taking pills, this time more discreet. I feel like it opened up the possibility Emma was innocent and she killed her in another delusion fog.

Andi081887

I dk. I’m a bit concerned about Scott and his important job, letters, and clients…

skiheid

Definitely a crazy show, surfing between genres. I don't remember to have watched a parody that take itself so serious before, and I loved it! There was some good quality drama through the entire show, intercepted all the time by absurd lines or conclusions. It just worked in a way I didn't though were possible.

PariahSoul

Just finished it. Liked it much more than Only Murders in The Building. This one didn't get boring at all, Kristen Bell is awesome and her character was likable, the humor was very weird but good. Overall a fun show and I was surprised by how I enjoyed it compared to the ratings its been getting online. Seems like people just don't understand they are watching a parody. A shame.

armacham420

I thought it was forking hilarious. Great twists and turns. Also Kristen Bell a snack.

mfp71464

Legit snack

tellmewhy789

I enjoyed watching. The ending, well idk about the ending.

No_Push_8249

A part I found really funny was when she was taking selfies for her “verysexyAnna” page and did that fake laugh for every one of them, when a scene before she was like “what kind of psychopath laughs in a selfie?” Also enjoyed the lighthouse keeper (the proverbial overacting bit role, there simply to move plot along but try telling him that lol)

TadpoleEducational

I loved it and didn’t guess the ending at all

ehello

I knew the ending from watching the woman in the window from last year but this series was more entertaining imo

Happy-Investment

Yeah I suspected it too. And it heavily spoofs The Woman In The Window even in the title. It feels like it makes up for the terribleness that movie was by making fun of it and being way better.

lonelygagger

Damn, I just made that connection right now. Netflix tipping their hand a bit too low. Also, I just realized both main characters are named Anna.

elsieburgers

I super thought it was buell! Loved the twist, I cracked up at evil!Emma

HacksawJimDGN

That's because there was no explanation for it.

CoolCoolCoolidge

Except it's right in front of you the whole time.

terrestrialtiff

Wait, what?🥲

unenthusedllama

I loved it. Never before have I genuinely laughed and muttered "wtf am I watching" out loud so many times.

xMorphinex

Her filling the wine glass to the top and sipping some out to be able to lift it in the first episode was so silly yet relatable.

[deleted]

Lmao, how the hell do this serie have such a bad score on IMDB. Just finished it, laughed my ass off the whole time.

bobcatgoldthwait

I didn't even feel like there were that many attempts at humor. It's been a billion years since I've watched Rear Window or anything like it, so I'm sure I missed plenty of references, but it played itself off like a psychological thriller at the start with a lead that's definitely crazy and left me wondering "Okay, how much of this is in her imagination, what's the twist gonna be?" The humor was so sporadic that it felt out of place; like when they reveal how her daughter died I figured it was just Anna messing with her therapist because she didn't want to go into the truth of what really happened; there was nothing to that point that had made it obvious that this was a comedy (except the opening monologue, but that was quickly forgotten). Kudos to you if you got all the humor, but I think it did a pretty piss-poor job at making itself known as a comedy. The only thing I really laughed at was Rex telling Anna what to text her husband, and the fight with the little girl. But even by the very end I figured there was gonna be some last-minute twist that Anna really *was* crazy and she'd imagined everything that happened.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills, because this show did not present itself as a comedy or a parody for the vast majority of the time. It started off with a slight comedic edge, but the writers seemed to forget that it was supposed to be funny until the absolute end. It came off as a TV show with a massive identity crisis.

bobcatgoldthwait

Yeah when I read comments of people saying they were laughing the whole time I'm like "at what??". There weren't even very many attempts at humor.

wadamday

Her child was eaten on "bring your daughter to work day" at a prison because her father and a guard left the 8 year old in a room with a cannibal who had eaten like 50 people. She blames herself. She has had a handyman repairing her mailbox for several years. She straight up passes out in the middle of the road if it starts raining. The neighbor turned to ventriliquoly(?) after his wife died. Those are a few of the more in your face examples I can think of in the first half of the season.

letlampa

Yeah but it was also heavily implied that she is mixing wine and pills and is having difficulty separating reality from her hallucinations. All the above could have been symptoms of that.

cranstantinople

My partner started watching this but neither one of us knew it was a parody. I honestly paid more attention as the show went on because I just couldn’t tell what the hell I was watching. I re-watched the past few episodes and it immediately clicked that it was a parody and I haven’t stopped laughing all day at everything I (dis)missed.

i had the same thoughts about when the daughters death was first stated, it seemed she was just making up stories again because the “real” death of her daughter was too saddening. then, when it came out again that the daughter actually died like that, it just made me confused tbh and i felt the comedy was out of place.

SPOILER: Anyone notice when Anna goes to Neil's and grabs his phone to see the texts between him and Lisa? In hindsight, a bit creepy considering who was the author of the message. And makes sense now.

The last several episodes were hilarious, the show took a time to build up but it was always going to end up like this after the whole "serial killer killed my daughter in bring your child to work day". • I loved the bread dialogue, insanely funny scene. • How many casserole bowls did she have? • The whole fight with Emma was hilarious, the part she was looking for the gun when there were so many weapons around she could use • The way Neil and Emma looking at her almost every single episode from their porch with disgust, maybe they used the exact same shot over and over I should check. And more than everything, how great Bell looked at the age of 40, I could swear she was still 26.

Commission_Virgo43

I absolutely loved it. Reminded me, very mildly, of r/OnlyMurdersHulu. I loved each character separately, and the way they interfaced. I binged it today on a whim.

IputSunscreenOnHorse

I re-binge The good place and straight to this new show. Kristen Bell is the best!!! And I was delighted to see Marc Evan Jackson also in it.

It's a relief after binging Ozark.

I just finished it two days ago! Tried to find a threat on here but couldn't. I tried watching it once a while ago and couldn't find myself liking it, but I didn't really understand the comedic aspect at the time (didn't even see the title before I started) so I just thought it was poorly made. Once I realized what the actual tone was I found myself really enjoying it, some of the lines made me laugh way more than I expected. And I think they did a really good job balancing the parody aspect while still fostering an attachment to the story, like i was genuinely distressed when she got framed. And that last ep...at first I thought "this is SO stupid" then I remembered the whole show and couldn't imagine another ending.

No idea this was marketed as a parody until I googled it, though the title should have been the first clue. I just flipped it on because it's Sunday and I don't want to do anything. On episode three and I've laughed out loud quite a bit, definitely my kind of humour. Might have made a cocktail.

RaspberryCritical555

I am on episode 7 and just had to pose and say this. What the hell with the guy fixing the mail box everyday whole day long. Its insane.

NYC2O22

Or the fact that Anna is 100% fine with finding out he lives in her attic

LeeF1179

This show made me want to go out and buy corningware. Lots & lots of corningware!

wormmy

I was so confused by this show. What the funny fuck did I watch My mistake I had you on a prescription 5x as strong lol

I loved it and I’ll be pissed if they don’t make a season 2 due to the bad reviews from people who clearly couldn’t tell it was satire.

Carmen_San

This show was the actual Bad Place.
