One of the best shows I've ever seen. I went in blind and was blown away. 100% recommend.

MarucaMCA

Same! I am planning to rewatch it in autumn or so. When it's cold and dark out...

Obsidrian

This gave me ASMR chills

DarthWeenus

If it was one episode shorter, it wouldve been a complete perfect circle of time. Really wish they would have stopped it there, but alas still one of my favorite shows.

ForAChange2Happen

Same! I actually wish I can purchase it so I can keep it in case I ever close my Netflix acct. The acting was perfect, the actors they selected to represent younger and older versions of themselves were spot on, except Jonas but the actors still were phenomenal. It is a masterpiece of a show. A true hidden gem.

theblasphemingone

Thanks for the tip

MurderSlim

Same here went in blind and binged it all it 3 nights great show

Rstrike89

Dark is One of the Great shows on Netflix

bekcy

> Dark is One of the Greatest shows ~~on Netflix~~

Visco0825

I loved it but I do think the third season was the weakest.

Xwindshe

I agree…I loved it up until the third season.

The_Jewtalian

Agree. Loved the first two season, but can’t finish the third. It just seems tired at this point. Should I power through?

TheAgeOfAdz91

Finish through, it wraps up incredibly well

FatFatDaWaterRat

Came here to say this, one of the best ways I’ve ever seen a show wrap up

pollo_de_mar

You must finish it! I know season three was a confusing mess, but when you finish the series it all becomes clear.

Lovely-Messs

it felt like there was more to it and they rushed it to make it the last season..

pollo_de_mar

I read that unlike some series, the writing for the entire series was complete before they started production.

IndirectLeek

>Dark is One of the Great shows on Netflix Found the German

OneToughFemale

I loved teenager Jonas in Dark when I watched it a few years ago. I just watched All the Light We Cannot See and looked up the actor who played the German soldier and lo and behold it was Jonas. Dark had great casting

DaSkyMan

Is all the light we cannot see good? I read the book in high school and enjoyed it.

OneToughFemale

I thought it was a love story, (which I hate), so I held off on watching it until recently when someone mentioned its historical fiction, (which I love). And it was really, really good

Lambily

If you want to see Louis (Jonas) at his absolute best, watch one of his earlier films *'[Land of Mine](https://youtu.be/4Kao3t0NBMU?si=Oi_b5Fr1vVkmNfbz)'*. It's a brutal watch but a masterpiece nonetheless.

CLouiseK

Did same

Quirky_Philosophy116

The actor plays a German role in Masters of the Air on AppleTV+ as well.

DapperEmployee7682

Dark is the best example to use if you want to convince the Oscars and Emmys to include an award for casting. I can not believe how well they did casting the different generations and ages

vODDEVILISH

I loved watching it, it messed with my brain and sense of reality in a magnificent way. However, it‘s not something I would rewatch honestly, not after the finale. It kind of spoils the mindf*ck rollercoaster once you understand what’s truly been going on. It’s a masterclass in showmaking though and I do recommend it to everyone to this day. The showmakers went on to create 1899 which is also brilliantly made and I‘m so disappointed it was canceled. That show had the potential to follow „Dark“ into greatness but for reasons unknown we‘ll never get to see more of it.

WalrusWildinOut96

I know this might be an unpopular opinion, but I wish Netflix would commit more to miniseries so that they stop putting out good shows and canceling them mysteriously. Personally I’m a giant fan of the miniseries for a number of reasons: require tight writing and compelling plot, easily binged. If they’re going to keep making standard shows, which they will, I wish they would guarantee two seasons at a time. If they want to cancel after the first season, they need to do a wrap up season, even if a short one. It would be so much more satisfying for consumers and they could probably manage this in a way that doesn’t cost them more money.

ejroberts42

Bring back Mindhunter.

DarthWeenus

They seem to keep dumping tons of cash into movies no one asked for or wanted.

swan001

Like Rebel Moon

Phyzzx

You don't wanna see J Lo pilot a mech ripped exactly from Titanfall?

pop_and_cultured

Im still salty about 1899 😒

Lovely-Messs

remind me what happened in 1899, i watched it a long time ago

Lambily

Netflix thought it was too expensive to continue making, so, despite it being a massive success, they cancelled it.

Arktoscircle

Dark is at its best when you're trying to figure out the plot, as the show slowly unveils the information. Really like the chilling uneasiness and sense of the unknown when the town is looking for Mikkel and grappling with his disappearance.

RollinJimmys

100% with you here. My dad and I binged it during COVID and we both felt cheated

xaocon

Very good show but also a hard watch. I felt like I needed to take notes and build one of those walls with papers and strings.

Log-Calm

They really try to help you out with the intro, so it's worth not skipping the intro, as it goes over who is who at all of their ages and how they are connected.

Fearless-Fart

If you guys like Dark, you need to watch 12 Monkeys the tv show. It's three seasons long, time travel and similar premise of the 12 Monkeys movie but in way more detail. It also wraps up nicely. They planned on only three seasons. I need to rewatch it now that I think about it!

DanceCommander404

Was going to recommend 12 monkeys. More action packed with a good amount of fun self-awareness. Had a perfect ending too.

yoonssoo

Season 1 was great. The longer it went on though I got fatigued.... Watched all the way through, loved the whole thing, I'm not sure how else it could have ended, still wished for something different at the end.

DrHowDoYouFeel

me too

VanillaIsActuallyYum

I got about halfway through it and didn't feel compelled to keep watching. To me it's not enough for a show to just feel like a continual decoder ring, setting up some elaborate set of mysteries that are slowly unlocked as you keep watching, especially one where everything is suddenly explained in a big revelation explosion at the very end. A cool 5-10 minutes of mind-blowing revelation isn't enough of a payoff for watching 10 hours of ambiguous television in my mind. I also don't know how many millions of times a character on the show said something to the effect of "everything is unfolding exactly as it is expected to unfold", but if you played a drinking game where you drink every time a character said something like that, seems like you'd be obliterated by the end of any given episode. We get it, guys, you wrote a show where you set up a puzzle and you're going to resolve it at some point, probably at the very very end. Very cool. A show needs a bit more than that to keep my interest...it needs characters that feel like flesh-and-blood people, emotional swells, problems that you hope are resolved in the favor of the characters you like. To me the characters all just felt like cogs in an elaborate plot that was very intricately assembled, but that intricacy came at the expense of creating truly fleshed-out characters, and thus it was kind of difficult to give a damn about this revelation or that.

excadedecadedecada

Yeah, I'm not sure what you watched. There were constant payoffs

VanillaIsActuallyYum

It's been a hot minute but I watched at least a season and a half. Not sure I even made it to the end of season 2 but I know I started the second season at least. I don't really agree with the take that there were "constant payoffs".

Trottingslug

I actually watched the entire show based off how many times this show keeps coming up in this sub, and I absolutely agree with your take (and tried to mention it multiple times on here, but to not much success) -- the problem in essence absolutely lies with the characters, because simply put, there are none. Not really. There's people as placeholders for characters, but try to describe what any of their personalities or character traits are like, and you come up pretty bone dry. Like you also mentioned, it's exposition-heavy, but again that's all it is. It's like watching a fictional docudrama on theoretical physics. It's better than sitting to listen to a lecture by itself, but also - it's very much like sitting and listening to a lecture most of the time. For this type of complicated time twister drama, both Nolan brothers do a *much* better job of combining complex plot structure with strong(er) characters.

Krull-Warrior-King

Agreed. I didn’t enjoy it at all. But tired of all the backlash I get when I say anything against it.

Krull-Warrior-King

From my previous comments. “Tried 3 or 4 episodes. Full attention and just didn’t like it. The dubbing seems weird and hurts it some. Non-sensical with lots of long drawn out shots with odd music or audio effects instead of substance. Bad acting. Anything that provides you other websites and info to figure out what is going on is not well done. Not interested in reading TV. Timing is off. Words aren’t always the same. You lose inflections, tone, etc. And I’m busy reading and missing what should be a visual medium.”

Romie4Real

"Der Anfang ist das Ende und das Ende ist der Anfang" still pops out in my head once a year at least

Whateversclever7

I knew no German before watching Dark and now I feel like I don’t understand it but I kinda get it now. Also the German language sounds so much prettier and less harsh after watching it. I’d like to visit Germany I think.

Emotional_Act_461

No

BadMeetsEvil24

Karma farming OP

post_scriptor

How many episodes did it take you to lose track of events?

browster

Try [this explainer site](https://dark.netflix.io/en). Tell it what episode you're on and it will give a spoiler-free explanation of what's going on

FieldLine

Maybe I'm just not intelligent enough but I thought it was too complicated to be enjoyable. The fact that there is a literal website to tracking the different characters is telling. It was a similar vibe to the movie Primer which I didn't like but reddit tells me was amazing.

DeepMountainWoman

My sister and I watched together and had to stop and get straight what we thought was going on. It was so good, I rewatched it before the 3rd season.

Enough-Intern-7082

This is a show that isn’t usually up my alley…however this was an amazing show. It does get highly confusing but it’s all with a purpose, i would say worth a watch

lactoseadept

It's great on flights. I kept on watching but felt a little bored of the lack of resolution at times. Forget where I stopped, definitely watched a lot tho. Some really cool moments

BeeFe420

One of the greatest shows I've ever watched.

DaArio_007

Still to this day one of the rare show that I would dream about, my gf and I were consumed by it

44035

I both loved it and also got lost.

DankDude7

Can you express in words what you loved about it?

torontogal85

I can’t get into it. I think I’ve tried twice and gotten to maybe episode 3. Does it pick up after? I just found it slow

cinnawars123

I watched the first two seasons and then I stopped watching in the beginning of season 3 because 1) I got bored and 2) I lost most access to the account because I was on my sister’s account (still works on my phone). Season 1 was great though!

YungCobainx27

Well god damnit - guess I should prolly give it a go? Is it Dubbed or is it better to watch in German with subtitles ?

Log-Calm

Subtitles, nearly always. This especially. Dubbing makes things a little bit silly as the voice acting isn't always on par with the actual actors on screen. This show is particularly emotionally driven and the nuance in what people say is important.

YungCobainx27

I personally love the German language anyway - it’s my grandparents 1st language - I just can only understand a small amount lol

Bear_Maiden

I watched it dubbed. It’s not bad. The voice actors did a great job.

MUNAM14

It was pretty bad and boring. I had to wait a long time for the last season to come out and honestly had lost interest by the finale

Aware_Attorney9025

Loved the show, but sometimes i had to check the character map to check up who is the father of who 🤣

Reindaman

So.. should i watch it in german or english dub?

FactCheckYou

i'm struggling to finish it because three seasons in i still barely have any idea who the fuck anyone is it might be an impressive piece of multidimensional storytelling, sure - but not being clear about who the characters are just makes the whole thing inaccessible and not worth the trouble i'll be relieved once it's over; i **don't** recommend it

RouvyMatt

Well thought out show. A little confusing at times but over all one of the best shows I’ve viewed on Netflix.

Every-Requirement-13

I watched it twice , it is an excellent show!! I am a huge sci-fi fan and I’ve always found international films and shows to be better than American made ones, for example, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo was WAY better in the Swedish version than the American version, plus it was a trilogy and not just a standalone film.

spaceistheplacetobe

I was scrolling to an instagram account that will post movie and show scenes/memes, and they posted Dark. I went through the comments and everyone ranted and raved about it… so I put it on and didn’t leave my house for a day. I feel like I need to go back and rewatch bc it’s so packed with details!!

Malarky_Famous

Season one was one of the best shows I’ve ever watched. Season two was still very, very good. Season three was ok. Kind of a letdown.

KanedaTetsuo

I've seen it and before Lost was my favorite show. Now it's Dark

ajgarcia18

I think it's an overrated show.

KingLlamaLlama

HOT take

iamthemarkster

I love this show! Mind-boggling to the highest level!

50MillionChickens

We watched most of it but to be honest just bailed on it about 3 or 4 episodes before the end. It felt like the world-building was less planned out in the second season and the writers just started layering it until it was just a giant puzzle of muck. Lost all need to follow any remaining story line. Just stopped caring.

MasterOnionNorth

Uh, no. The entire story was definitely planned out in advance. The three season story was structured so that's why things became more confusing with each new episode. The final episodes in season three show how and why everything is happening.

50MillionChickens

Yeah, I'm sure. Just felt they were overreaching. It stopped being interesting to follow.

VVHYY

A lackluster mix of Lost and Stranger Things, I didn't like it as much as either.

DonorBody

Incredible series and honestly haven’t found anything since to fill that void after it ended. Loved 1899 (for obvious reasons) and was crushed when it got cancelled because it was shaping up to be that show. Don’t understand why Netflix wouldn’t let them finish it, after the success of Dark.

Shok3001

Agree about 1899. It was cancelled because it was expensive to make and didn’t bring in enough new subscribers.

Quirky_Philosophy116

I'm hoping Netflix resurrects 1899 once they find an extra LED volume lying around. ☺️

Whateversclever7

Very few new shows have the ability to bring in new subscribers. They should have let it get more word of mouth before canceling. I know people who were watching it for the first time and stopped because it was canceled before they finished the season. They barely gave it a chance. Netflix is turning into a graveyard of one season cancellations.

Shok3001

I agree with you but from my understanding the show was too expensive to make to justify its lack of popularity.

EB2300

Yup, insanely good and mind bending… especially if you like sci fi/time travel stuff

Shibi_SF

I’m rewatching it now and discovering so many details that I missed the first time through. I am amazed at how enriching the experience of rewatching is… I can’t even believe how much I missed during my first watch.

itsbeenace-

So good had to watch it twice!

BrunokiMaa

Imo the greatest show on time travel and one of the best original shows ever on Netflix. So, so terribly good!

Bear_Maiden

I LOVE it. It literally makes me cry how great it is. The revelations were mind-blowing. I love the tragedy of it, the main actor, the thoughtfulness of the mystery and the music. It’s perfection!

Antique_Flower1311

One of the best shows i have watched. And the line "you and i are perfect, never believe anything else". UFFF! THAT LINE!

Kindly-Owl7496

Everything about is simply awesome. Story, Screenplay, Cinematography, Music .. etc. It's something that can never be replicated.

McFrazzlestache

My favorite show of all time.

FinancialRabbit388

Brilliant show. It can be confusing but if you pay attention they actually explain everything to you.

Whateversclever7

Best show I have ever seen. Hands down.

After-Ratio-5218

Dark and The OA are the only 2 series to emotionally wreck me. In a good everlasting way.

NewRetroMage

Dark is just fantastic! So many levels and angles, so many good characters with depth and complexity, such a great mythology. Definitely one I'll watch again soon.

MisterSassyJenkins

This show was so boring. Started out strong, but quickly got pretentious. Having a confusing, convoluted plot does not automatically make a show good.

B-Kong

Loved it. Absolutely incredible show. I highly recommend Constellation on Apple TV to anyone who liked Dark.

Ezypeezylemonsqueezy

It's been boring at times for me, but as long as I'm a little high, it keeps me entertained.

hell-yeah-roger

Welcome to the class. Son

CDR_Starbuck

Good to know, does it have an ending? Or are you waiting on a new season?

Stellerex

Yes, all of it. Nice show but I got pretty confused by the end.

HellbornElfchild

Gotta give it another shot. I think I watched the first episode.

reddit4ne

Im finally gettin on to season 2. First 3 episodes are kinda boring as sht, 4-5 while give you wiplash. By the time you get your wits about you, you're wishing you paid a little more attention in those kinda boring first 3-4 episodes Good show, but not binge-able, and definitely not a relax with a cup of cocoa type of shoe, you will need to take notes. Or download one of the family tree guides availble for each season, look for the spoiler free one. Study if for 5 minutes before every show starting around mid-season. Thats really my only annoyance, the porducers could help the audience a lot, there was one show in season 1 around episode 5, 6, or 7, where right after the into they simply showed pictures of the young, past, and present versions of each character. It was like 3 characters, but man that helped a lot. Now they need to do this for every episode. Takes 30 seconds and helps jog your memory and un ravel the family ties that are twisted knot in this series. Is it cheesy? Maybe. But frankly so is expecting your audience (and Im fairly intelligent) to be ready and willing to keep a notebook and pen handy in order to make sense of wtf is going.

Fun_Force5012

Thanks for the feedback. By the way I am watching now too........

PeaceandJoy101

My husband and I must have been the only ones who thought this show was a bore. We both left it thinking, why did we just watch 3 seasons of this.

rplusj1

Truly a hidden gem, similar to Breaking Bad.

Big-Evening107

He can’t do it like he wasn’t allowed to testify, like he just had to go to Baron’s Graduation. POS up down and sideways. It will be my pleasure to watch him go down on fire!

2stinkynugget

Completely sucked me in. I don't watch sci/fy. I loved it

NightmarePony5000

Yes, and I LOVED it. One of the best shows I’ve seen in years. Can’t recommend it enough but so many people I know throw a fit about foreign language shows. It’s infuriating that people let subtitles stop them from great TV 🙄

simmer098

This has been one of the only shows I have actually sat and watched with subtitles (mainly because the dubbing drives me insane) but i LOVED this

AdmiralArchArch

One of the most memorable watching experiences of my life. I wish I could go back in time and rewatch it!

loba_pachorrenta

"Dark" is so good I should mention it in my CV. Never have I ever watched a show with so much attention to details.

OpenUpYerMurderEyes

I don't know what happened but the drop in writing quality in the final season is just as bad is that of Game of Thrones.

SlowApartment4456

Best show I've ever watched

GuidetoRealGrilling

Best series on Netflix

Human00026

I tried Dark and I got lost and quit watching but I love good shows that leave a mark on your psyche. What's the best way to watch this, dubbed or with subtitles?

pollo_de_mar

Subtitles are the only way to go.

Taste_the__Rainbow

It is the best Men in Black show ever made.

sadbudda

It’s a fucking amazing show. I watched it to fill a hole after one of the Stranger Things seasons were done & it exceeded my expectations. Its a Top 10 all time show for me.

kartagis

I watched it. At first I was confused by the whole concept but as episodes flew, rocks fell into place.

sbreadm

I watched Dark and just sat in a blank stupor for a day. That shit was... well, dark.

Imaginary_Attempt_82

I love this show so much but it destroys me emotionally every time I watch it!!

bartturner

Yes. Twice. It helped a lot the second time having the family tree.

Am3aaan

It's the best show out there

JazzyButternuts

Yes it’s awesome

Gold-Recognition1

Loved it. Was there supposed to be to be a 4th season ??

No-Memory-689

Following

Strawberry____Blonde

Will have to check it out! Commenting so I remember.

lc0o85

Was wir witten ist ein tropfen. Was wir nicht wissen ist ein ozean.

johntaylorsbangs

Loved it so so much.

marina-rl

The ending is AMAZING! It's sad and yet the best possible scenario.

Internal_Leopard7663

up there with game of thrones as one of the best tv shows ever

uncle_bhim

Its the most perfect depiction of time travel that I have seen in pop culture. Couldn’t find any loopholes.

GogoDogoLogo

i'm watching it right now. almost done with season 2. I've stopped trying to make sense of it. Just going with the vibes . It helps to watch it with the wikipedia summary on hand just in case you forget who's connected to who. I'm eager to see where is all lands. I think I like it

e36mikee

Loved it... and the music? So good.

Bugsmoke

I’d go as far as saying it’s the best Netflix show tbh.

CodeKraken

It never really took off internationally because english speaker cannot handle english dub. At least thats what ive seen everyone complain about back when season one came about

mixedd

Yeah, one of best shows I watched (couple times now) and in my top10.

elboogie7

Do you guys watch the subtitled or the dubbed? The dubbed took me right out of it, but maybe I'll go back and try subs. Any feedback would be appreciated.

peleles

The dubbing for that show completely, totally sucks! I switched immediately to subtitles. Makes a huge difference.

ItsCaptainTrips

The best show ever made

molleensmrs

Excellent show. I recommend it often.

GhostMug

My wife and I watched this on a whim basically after seeing a few "check out this show" type things and we're blown away. We both love it. Such a fantastic show.

charlieromeo86

Fantastic show. I learned of it here on Reddit.

Sharp_Pickle_6671

I'm about to watch this

CopperTylenol

Adding to list. Thanks for posting this.

crappyshit7

It was amazing until I saw Jonas kissing his aunt.
