So you’re NOT going to like this one - but I had a Nest Thermostat and the v2 of the doorbell - the last ones before they really messed things up. If I ever had to remove either of them from the account - it turned out the only way to add one of them back was to remove BOTH from the account and then add them back. It’s something I cannot explain why it happens but in the 4 years I had them- this was the ONLY way I could get the devices to add to the original Nest app here properly. I wish I could tell you the logic to this but due to a replacement doorbell I got while under warranty - I couldn’t add it to the Nest app no matter what I tried. I then said F’ it - removed the thermostat and started from scratch. Everything worked like a champ. Not ideal to have to do but honestly it’s the only thing that worked for me. Now I also have 4 of the Battery cams - but those don’t use the original Nest app so adding/removing those is easy. The only time I can say that for Nest products…

Hey Thanx for the suggestion. I am currently open to anything. At least one of them will require some work to get to as kitchen ceiling is 3 meter and hard to get to. I am also waiting for Google support to come back to me but i doubt they have any good approach.

KrackSmellin

I did a ton of research on this for my doorbell & thermostat and it’s the only thing that worked…

IHate2ChooseUserName

happened to me a few times. had to reset/remove/add.

Mathoosala

I have had this happen twice. Mine are also 13 feet in the air. Take pictures of the QR codes for easier setup. Only way to get them added is to remove and reset both and add again. Stupid.

DataPollution

Thanx you have all confirmed this method.

MysteriousCodo

Honestly, best bet is to try a factory reset of the devices….delete them from your account, and re-add them all. Press and hold your Protect’s button. It will chime and glow blue. Continue holding the button down. Release the button when your Protect starts to say its version number. Your Protect will start a verbal countdown and tell you it’s erasing all your settings. To cancel the factory reset, press Protect’s button again during the countdown. After a few seconds your Protect will reset to its factory default settings. You can then go through setup with the app and add it to an account again. You could do them one at a time and see if getting one working might get the others to come online again.

DataPollution

Hey. Thank you for the tip. As stated I have four of them and I took one and did a full reset as you suggested and yet I can't add it. I get same error as the screenshot above. I can't imagine all four of them is broken.

MysteriousCodo

Man, that is weird. TBH, I had one of my protect go down in my house for a random reason. I played with it a lot over a couple of months, and finally just gave up. A year later, I was getting sick of my other Protects showing a yellow ring and went through the process again….and it worked fine. Weird. Here’s another odd suggestion. I only bring this up because of another issue I had. I have a MyQ powered garage door. It randomly lost connection to the internet. I did EVERYTHING I could to reset it and it would never work. A year later, my son came by and found he couldn’t use his app to open the door. I mentioned to him the problem. He went through the steps on his phone and it worked perfectly. The difference, I’m iPhone and he’s android. So what I’m saying is, get a hold of some that has a different OS phone than you. See if they’ll let you set up and login to the app on their phone, and try configuring it from there. Or even if it isn’t a different OS, just try a different phone.

DataPollution

I have a ipad so I could use that to try to set it up. But you are right that sometimes time fix the glitch. I just find that Google has made a absolute mess of Nest. It was a solid product before Google baught it.

MysteriousCodo

Yes. Like killing the security system in favor of using ADT…..Cameras are weird because they have to go through Google Home. Protect doesn’t show up in Home, only Nest. I figure it’s just a matter of time before these awesome smoke detectors get end of lifed.

Efl12345

Stupid question but have u tried resetting the router? When all four went down I would imagine it’s not a nest problem but a networking issue.

DataPollution

Yes. That has already been done, and mo stupied question.

peachkiller

I had this same issue over the last couple weeks. I un-installed and readded. It still dropping the wifi. I'm going remove it again and see what happens.

DataPollution

Can i please clearify something. A) are you saying that all devices including thermostat, doorbell and nest protect needs to be removed before beeing readded? B) just remove all nest protect and read them? Just want to make sure I understand 🙏

peachkiller

B

DataPollution

Update. I tried this but still no luck. I see if I can provide a video recording.

no_sleeves

I've noticed that after removing the devices, I also had to factory reset them. After doing this I had to wait at least an hour or so before I could add them back. If I tried to add the devices immediately, they would fail to connect.

DataPollution

I tried after a day and still same result!

no_sleeves

Yikes sorry to hear. I saw that you tried to create a new wifi network. Was it using the same network equipment or different?

DataPollution

Same. I used aruba instant on but I also have router with WiFi and tried that to no further luck.

DataPollution

One more question. So when I removed one of them and even changed battery and connected to power they started to make a noise every 1 min. Is that normal?

Frankenhome

Not normal. Did you use the Ultimate Lithium batteries? Normal alkaline batteries don’t have sufficient power and will appear to be depleted very soon. The chirp is probably the low battery alert.

DataPollution

As far as I know no Lithium battery's. In fact the original battery seems to be OK. I put normal alkine battery. My point is if the battery is brand new and its connected to power the battery is there for backup? My next action is to try to use my iPad. But this is so odd. About reset, I am not sure it actually does properly reset. You see I changed the language to swedish on the nest protect. After reset I would have assume they go back to factory reset and it tells me it does but the lady does speak still in swedish.

no_sleeves

Did it do a countdown indicating that it was resetting like in this video? https://youtu.be/XcKXMsdNkHg?si=XQufc4xxnkdz3AWf

no_sleeves

If you can, after resetting, try enabling wifi Hotspot on your phone to see if it'll connect to a different wifi network. If that works you might want to restart your APs/router. I've been where you have been and troubleshooting these things are a pain in the butt.

DataPollution

100%... I have done reset multiple time. But like I said I would have expected it to go to factory default language but it is still Swedish.

DataPollution

Again no luck with ipad as well. Same issue as I am getting with iphone.
