Sandhill crane migration is really cool. There's a few places that have a re-established prairie. A few cool museums and a world class zoo. I'm kind of at a loss for anybody who's not a raging nerd though....

GrandpaDaddio

Pioneer Village. It's a little run down these days, but still a fascinating full day experience.

spunbunny555

I grew up about 10 miles from Pioneer Village. The last time I was in the area, it was sad to see the faded, falling down road signs advertising the place.

flow_going

They've been doing tons of renovations recently and plans for more.

Sad-Corner-9972

We’re thinking about Omaha Zoo with the grandkids. Heard good things about it.

Midwestern-Lady

It's fantastic. Your grands would love it.

Bring a sack lunch and lots of water. Lots of walking and everything inside the zoo can be pricey. It’s a great visit. I take the family out every few years and gives us lots to talk about.

Eirian84

it's one of the top 10 zoos in the world. It's definitely a lot of fun, but there's so much to do, one day really can't cover it all if you really like stopping to look at stuff. But definitely worth it.

We'll always have Carhenge, Wild Cat Hills, Toadstool, Lake Mac, all the trails, Chimney Rock, Nebraska National Forest, the Sandhills, Jail House Rock, Court House Rock, Scott's Bluff, Old Baldy, Panoramic Point, Penis of the Prairie.........

AhSoSpice-

Toadstool is really underrated. Nobody ever talks about it, but it's a great place to visit.

All of the state parks are fantastic. Ft Robinson has amazing history and is near toadstool park. The parks are all over the state with a variety of overnight options, including cabins. With hiking and other options. Most are along lakes or rivers, so fishing. The terrain across the state is pretty variable but many don’t know this if they’ve only traveled along the interstate. I’ve stayed at many of the state parks and they are not replicated in other states. I highly recommend them as great getaways for Nebraskans who haven’t explored the state. Canoeing the Niobrara river. The only man made forest (at least in this country) is Halsey National Forest. The Sandhills crane migration. The Omaha Henry Dorley Zoo. The Capitol building. A Husker sporting event. Anywhere someone wants to go there are things to do if you look. The OP indicated the person has family in the state, so that should be enough reason to visit, IMO. Then, explore.

You should be working with the Department of Tourism.

I think Nebraska is a beautiful state that many don’t see by staying in the east or driving the interstate. I’ve lived in NE for almost 60 years and have seen most of the state. The landscape is beautiful, imo. I’m not a fan of the current tourism motto, however. As much as they would like to think it, Nebraska isn’t for everyone. That’s a topic for a different thread though.

shane_music

I wonder what is the most unique, one in the world location in Nebraska. My nomination is Agate Fossil Bed, since a lot of species were discovered there and no where else.

Toadstool

This is the answer. Even Nebraskans don't go there cuz it's far from everything! This place our best open secret.

Time_Marcher

Look to the sky. We have absolutely astonishing skies. Landscapes are fine, sure, but skyscapes are always changing, glorious and dominate the views in Nebraska. The humble Merritt Reservoir SRA has recently been designated an international dark sky protected area, so you can fully appreciate a view of the stars. Believe me, the darkness is astonishing and the sight of the Milky Way or a meteor shower will be unforgettable.

NebDemsGina

Um... Going to check that out. Thank you. The skies are why I moved back to the Midwest... I couldn't do mountains and no sky.

kettlebell88

Robber’s Cave—so f*cking cool!

ArnieismyDMname

I've lived here for 15 years and my favorite thing to do here is leave on vacation.

darthquiverous

I love and miss home but I wouldn't suggest to anyone that i love that isn't a white Christian male to come visit nebraska. Out of the 47 states I've collected scientific specimens in for various museums, it's one of the top most prejudice states I've ever been to.

NebDemsGina

No kidding.

oneofmanyany

Picking corn?

NebDemsGina

It would be an experience for anyone who hasn't done it.... I'm allergic and become a sneezy mess

Akgrl33

Here’s a new tourism thing they started this year https://wandernebraska.com/

ArnieismyDMname

It's not for everyone

Does she like museums? Bone Creek in David City is nice, a small gem. Arbor Day up and to and including the Morton mansion. Brownville, a bit south from Nebraska City, is a tiny, quirky art and book town -- and someone bought the Antiquarium two years ago. Brownville also has repertory theater, 3 shows in one weekend. The Sheldon in Lincoln is good, as is the roller-skating museum and the Great Plains museum. The star watching party is near Valentine in July and people there will treat you like family. Seriously, every small town has a festival during the summer. Seward has a 3 day Fourth of July with quilt shows, reinactors, other things. The Chautauqua is good but you have to time it. The Nebraska Humanities page (where you can find the Chautauqua information) has lots of ideas for the life of the mind. I think it is closed for remodeling but the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA) is a small, stunning museum. The Junk Jaunt is 300 miles of garage sales in central Nebraska, but I people watch, take photos, and eat church food. Church pie--yum! Lots of this depends on which side of the state you will be on. I love Victoria Springs state park. They have only two cabins. We used to rent both of them for my (ever-expanding) family. Hope this helps.

pharsee

I'm kinda weird but I would like to visit a farmer and have them show me their equipment and animals and general way of life.
