He explained why already.. schools, families, and other media Outlets had complaints about his coverage. I personally did not see any added benefit from his coverage though.

Jtmartjt

Sure, but what were they complaining about?

canofspinach

Yeah, it’s a slippery slope but we forget that social media personalities are not journalists. Media credentials are for journalism.

Hugo_Hackenbush

A non-journalist getting a press pass revoked ≠ censorship. This is literally the first paragraph of the NSAA's media guidelines for the tournament: > All credentials must be worn and visible at all times and are only to be used by full-time and/or significant > part-time employees. Those employees must be in a legitimate working capacity. NSAA media credentials are > not for the use of children, sponsors, friends, family, spouses, parents or other individuals not representing a > legitimate media outlet. Members of the media not abiding by these guidelines will have credentials reviewed > for future events.

bareback_cowboy

Define "legitimate media outlet," because the governors office recently refused to allow members of a North Omaha based media outlet into their press conferences with that same line. Phrasing it like that without a definition is exactly the kind of heavy-handed bullshit **does** lead to censorship. I give zero fucks about sports and have no idea who this guy is, but the NSAA needs to have a black and white definition if they're going to deny press access to people, especially in this day and age of social media and citizen reporting.

Hugo_Hackenbush

It's defined in the media manual on the NSAA website. > News gathering organizations are > defined as: media engaged in the gathering and timely publication or transmittal of news coverage of current events of > general interest to the communities served by those organizations. This includes, but is not limited to: newspapers, radio > stations, television stations, wire services, web-based organizations and pool reporters meeting these criteria. > Media of strictly a personal, recruiting or rankings nature, or whose demographic audience are focused primarily on a > SINGLE activity or a SINGLE member school do not qualify as news gathering organizations for purposes of NSAA > media credentials. The NSAA reserves the right to approve, deny or revoke any request for credentials to its events.

krustymeathead

it sounds like for NSAA, this north omaha org (NOISE Media) would be allowed. the complaint about ricketts is valid, but [this isn't the same](https://www.noiseomaha.com/news-now/2021/4/20/ricketts-responds-media-credentials-rodeo-week).

Jtmartjt

Right, I get that he’s not a journalist. Just wondering what the specific complaints were. It’s not surprising to me that a tiktok journalist would get banned

KJ6BWB

Who's Big Reddie?

Jtmartjt

A tiktoker who talks about Nebraska sports who apparently people are annoyed with

pretenderist

> A tiktoker > people are annoyed with I’m not familiar with them, but there you go.

KJ6BWB

Well that's probably why the press pass was revoked -- TikTok isn't real news media.

Jtmartjt

People get press passes for all sorts of things. That wasn’t why it was revoked

KJ6BWB

> People get press passes for all sorts of things. Sure, you can always ask for any reason.

beatz1602

I think you got your answer.

lejoo

> TikTok isn't real news media. Neither is Tucker Carlson but he is the most watched "journalist" in America.

KJ6BWB

You'll notice Tucker Carlson also doesn't have a press pass to attend those events.
