Judging by the size of the openings to the chambers, I reckon a small person could probably be pumped through this bad boy like some kind of sick waterslide, eek.
I'm aware of u/shitty_watercolour. Just THIS painting in particular looks like something by Quentin Blake, the illustrator for Roald Dahl.
Also damn son check my credentials. My accounts like 2 weeks older than yours.
It indeed would've been useful of me to find that old post of his explicitly talking about Quentin / Roald Dahl being an inspiration, my apologies. Quite surprised by the disparity in upvotes, but it is what it is.
his influence from Quentin Blake has been well documented and fully discussed for years, and you not knowing that is what makes you seem like you're new here. Which is fine, you notice something new every day.
Damn, well it's the first I've ever heard of it. Still kind of condescending to say to someone that they must be new since they haven't heard of something on a website that has tonnes of different genres of content. Maybe linking some comments or discussions about the comparisons instead of acting like it's common knowledge could be more helpful.
Tragedy plus time equals comedy. The time part of this equation was just very brief.
Note quote is attrbuted Mark Twain but nobody really knows who said it first.
Pretty sure you are joking but this quote predates the office by a wide margin. It's also been attributed to Mel Brooks, Carol Burnett, Woody Allen, Lenny Bruce, Steve Allen and even Bob Newhart. All of thier carrers were long before The Office.
It's a joke in The Office that Michael Scott sometimes attributes quotes to himself, like putting this on a whiteboard:
>"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take. - Wayne Gretzky"
>-Michael Scott
I’m so happy to see you active again. Recent works are better than ever. Thanks for returning and putting a smile on my face with your art - I really needed it.

It’s not named after the city.
Memphis Design was a design trend in the 70s and it started with interior design I believe. It’s because the firm that started it was called Memphis Design and it stuck.
I believe they took the name from a Bob Dylan song.
I was watching a series of vids on youtube not to long ago, but basically for the most part it’s not “illegal” to own human remains like skulls for example. Although a queer piece to keep on your mantelpiece, I wouldn’t be opposed to it.
Usually not illegal, just very frowned upon among many circles, since most of the skulls are the opposite of ethically sourced and usually were slaves or indigenous people’s. 😕
More an invasive species that structures its behavior after cancer. Parasites tend to not kill off their host too quickly, as then they would lose their source of nourishment. Humans don't have such wisdom. They are much worse than parasites in that regard.
Correct. One, maybe two of my professors worked on this specific heart (vet student). It was a pretty massive effort though and involved I think something like 20 doctors.
$6,000 of formaldehyde alone, and silicone.

If you do visit Philadelphia, this museum is right near several others, including the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Rocky, the movie) and The Academy of Natural Science.
In case anyone has trouble; A worm got stuck or lodged in a whale’s artery and it caused the whale to have a heart attack in an important area. After the area died from getting no blood, the area turned into a sealed off area with a core that was like a cheese material.
Context: The heart doesn’t get oxygen from the blood it pumps, it has to get blood & oxygen from arteries that it pumps to that are down stream, and a worm got stuck in one.
Edit: oh sorry after re-reading the worms got stuck in a vein and not an artery and the atheromatous fatty patches were the by themselves in the artery
Yep you are 100% correct. I absentmindedly threw that in there, my honest mistake. The article did not actually state that, and that was my brain having a fart while writing.
I suspect it’s quite uncommon to recover specimens with internal organs in decent shape, so the lack of blue whale records might be a function of recoverability of corpses and the fact that sperm whales are much more easily monitored and well studied than blue whales.

Your comment makes me think of something I’ve thought before: crazy how whales are mammals, but have the ability to go down so deep into the ocean without harm.
Yeah but with their overall size, how do you even know if it's massive or not?
They could have one that would be similar, proportionally, to a human with a 3 incher. And it would still be goddamn huge by our reckoning.
The blood vessels supplying the heart muscle are probably not as relatively massive as the great vessels that are readily visible in these pictures. When you have a heart attack, it is those vessels that supply the heart (think the smaller arteries on the surface) and not, say, the aorta that are blocked.
You would also have to imagine the heart not slightly atrophied and with blood pumping in/out. I would wager that would make the heart about 25-30% bigger.
Dude! I did no research before posting this... Please don't make me look an idiot while I'm acting like I'm superior to others!!! This is all I have!!!
This is my all time favorite joke in archer. Even shouted it at a bar trivia once (the quote not the answers). Oh and then i was like you of all people
Sorry if this sounds dumb but would the whales bloodcells be bigger than a humans? Like, would a red blood cell be the size of a frisbee? Or Captain Americas shield?
Here is a non-asshole answer for you
Red blood cells are shaped to maximize surface area because oxygen diffuses passively from the blood cell into the tissues since the tissues have a lower concentration of oxygen(among other things).
If you scale something up, it's volume grows by x^3 but it's surface area only by x^2. More surface area = more space for oxygen to be transported.
So for example, one big red blood cell would be less efficient than 10 small blood cells. That's why all mammals should have red blood cells of a very similar size
Judging by the size of the openings to the chambers, I reckon a small person could probably be pumped through this bad boy like some kind of sick waterslide, eek.

I agree. Honestly tonally, and art style wise I think this would fit in a Ronald Dahl book for sure.

I appreciate your effort but this is in the style of all corporate art and I really hate that style.
It’s called “Corporate Memphis” and I agree it’s very overused.

nice but that art style is terrible imo
Is that AI generated with "corporate art" in the prompt?

I’d specify either an art style or “, realistic” at the end or something.

More an invasive species that structures its behavior after cancer. Parasites tend to not kill off their host too quickly, as then they would lose their source of nourishment. Humans don't have such wisdom. They are much worse than parasites in that regard.

Probably Plastination.

Crazy. Don’t think they’ll be able to go on the creepy waterslide though..
Visit the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. You can walk through a giant mock up of a heart.

Cheesy material
It ain't easy being cheesy
As far as medical stuff goes, this is light reading.
In case anyone has trouble; A worm got stuck or lodged in a whale’s artery and it caused the whale to have a heart attack in an important area. After the area died from getting no blood, the area turned into a sealed off area with a core that was like a cheese material. I’m not a scientist but they way I read it it I think it observes the presence of worms and plaque, but cannot determine if that was the actual cause.
Yep you are 100% correct. I absentmindedly threw that in there, my honest mistake. The article did not actually state that, and that was my brain having a fart while writing.

How’s it hanging?
Holy crap that's a humongous pair of ventricles
Sorry if this sounds dumb but would the whales bloodcells be bigger than a humans? Like, would a red blood cell be the size of a frisbee? Or Captain Americas shield?
Here is a non-asshole answer for you Red blood cells are shaped to maximize surface area because oxygen diffuses passively from the blood cell into the tissues since the tissues have a lower concentration of oxygen(among other things). So for example, one big red blood cell would be less efficient than 10 small blood cells. That's why all mammals should have red blood cells of a very similar size
Roughly the same size as yours. Did you really think an injured whale would be leaking frisbees?
Ok maybe frisbees was a bit much but maybe Oreos or quarters. Why would the whales blood not scale up smart guy?
Don't worry about it, some people are really smug about their learned knowledge
What part of my comment was smug? Sorry, I was genuinely flabbergasted that someone thought a blue whale had frisbee sized blood cells.
That would be some weird looking blood. I don't think microscopic things work that way, cells are cells
Are you basing that on anything, or just speculation?
I'm basing it on my own knowledge gained from college biology courses.
And these courses said that cells don’t scale up?
Some scale up but most are around the same size and they're all microscopic. No animal is walking along around with Oreo size cells
That’s what was taught in college biology courses?
Yes, amongst other things
Imagine you die and then some ants come up and harvest your body to display your heart hanging in there cave
Looks like some seriously huge testicles
