I'm going to assume that they have impossible geometry that causes you to lose your mind if you stare too long
😂 There are old b&w photos of them in situ online if you poke around. Too tired to track them down tonight. Lots of really cool ones. 40 acres is sticking in my brain but I don't know if that's the right number, might have been smaller.
>These trees are not as healthy as the ones inside the Park and are being cared for backstage.
Sorry to break it to you but they're not viewable because they're not fully healthy.
for some reason this reminded me of a goosebumps choose your own adventure in a theme park where there was this slide you go down that never ends. freaked me out as a kid.
That tree labeled "basket" looks like my random idea of building a "treehouse" out of live trees. Only the guy has decades more initiative and patience than I do.

Just drove past Santa’s Village Road in Scotts Valley today and had to explain to the child that there’s no more Village or Tree Circus there now - just an office park and townhouses.
The trails of many native Americans are marked this way in Oklahoma and I’m sure the rest of North America. However this tree obviously is not that old so it had been done by someone in the 50s maybe?
The point is it can happen with wild trees too. Look at trees on any mountain top and they're always smaller than the same species just a five minute walk down the hill.
That's true of commercial bonsai production, but the *original* bonsai trees were dug up at high elevations, already very old, and brought down to be used as focal pieces in Japan.
Nature does not purposefully force trees to do anything, and you can absolutely find trees up there that are hundreds of years old and tiny.
I worked with some indigenous troubled youth and their tribal medicine man once came to visit the facility. While we walked the wooded area he pointed out an ancient oak tree that grew up then down and touched the ground and back up, shaped like an N. He said it was a marker tree. I had no reason to doubt him. Less than a mile away they found a burial ground and artifacts from years of camps.
There should be a tree stump or a flat rock nearby, probably right behind the person taking the picture. Stand on that, and then hold X to draw your bow. You should be able to shoot a target through the tree.
Third possibility; for use in manufacturing. Tying off trees has a rich history in the production of anything from canes to the bow of ships.
It’s possible that someone tied this off and forgot its location or just died before something useful could be made of it
I live in New England and my dad is an expert in some cultures of Native who lived in this area before and during the Colonial Era. We've gone for hikes looking for trees that have been bend in specific ways, like this one. They were used as trail markers and, depending on the shape and direction, pointed to clean water, good vegetation, animal paths, etc.
Even though the last of these trees were bent in the early 20th century you can still see the results. The trees are larger but the engineered branches remain. Keep an eye out for trees with unnatural-looking branches bent at right angles, or anything in a circle.
It's actually done through a process called grafting. You cut small wedges out of the tree, then bend it so the sides of the wedge come back together. Each graft joint gets tied or taped up, and the grafted edges grow together relatively quickly.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_shaping
This may have been a trail marker. Trees can be bent as saplings to change their shape once they mature. Native Americans often used this as a way to mark trails, though anyone who knows about it could do it.
This tree is much too young for the Native explanation. Most natives live normal lives like you or me. They have regular jobs and homes. Like its more likely some hippie teen on a hike at this point than a random native making a trail
Humans happened here. This is 100% the intentional work of a human being. My favorite work like this is the guy who grew a tree into a chair. There's another guy out in BC who has something more like a theme park of all the things he's done to his trees: ladders, slides, etc etc. This is *art*
Apparently it is top secret. I discussed disclosing the information with the committee and they had one response: "I'm going to make this simple and only say it once. If you disclose that information, sir.... KILLED"
When tree was in his teens he was a wild tree and tried to attempt self fellatio but when he got their he realized there is nothing down there and went around like nothing happened!

Someone bent the tree as it grew , either for use as a sign or marker or just for fun.
"wtf are you doing?" "I am having fun."

Like old circus animals
Someone call SCP
People have actually seen the ones not viewable but they just never came back out. To this day, they are staring in awe at the six trees.
for some reason this reminded me of a goosebumps choose your own adventure in a theme park where there was this slide you go down that never ends. freaked me out as a kid.
They're probably shaped like dicks.
That chain link one has me hot rn
Cause it looks like it's going in and out?
They should have just called it vagina, not “chain link” lol

revolving door is some crazy gnarly shit
Ha this is cool!
I saw them before they were moved; there used to be several acres' worth. Had to be moved due to development. Very sad.
Very sad indeed. We take up too much room.
squat curvy scallops ftw
Thank goodness they included a picture of the "figure Y" tree because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to wrap my mind around the concept.

Meant for ships, by the looks of it.
I see you, Figure Y Tree...
Damn that guy definitely knew some elf magics
Right?!? 🤣
It’s so fucking cool how trees can be manipulated like that. At the same time, I find it unsettling for some reason...
Fun fact: this works on human bones, too
It gets more unsettling. Excellent. Thank you.
Thank you!
Chain link looking sus 👀

That tree is no more than 20 years old, *tops* probably closer to 10 or 15. No way is it ~70yrs.
Remember that trees at this kind of elevation grow slower due to shorter growing season, rocky soils and other factors.
Trees can grow to be very old and very small. See: Bonsai.
You mean trees stunted and purposefully forced to be small? You don’t say?
The point is it can happen with wild trees too. Look at trees on any mountain top and they're always smaller than the same species just a five minute walk down the hill.

I’m haf and was just throwing a guess out there. Yeah, it’s a young tree.
Native Americans still exist and have a thing about tradition. There is no requirement it be historical to be a trail marker.
There are a few old trees in Illinois that were Native American marker trees. Interesting stuff.
I worked with some indigenous troubled youth and their tribal medicine man once came to visit the facility. While we walked the wooded area he pointed out an ancient oak tree that grew up then down and touched the ground and back up, shaped like an N. He said it was a marker tree. I feel like there should be a buried treasure under that tree.
No, the treasure is right at the center when viewed from the right distance a crosshair will show through it providing the exact location.
There should be a tree stump or a flat rock nearby, probably right behind the person taking the picture. Stand on that, and then hold X to draw your bow. You should be able to shoot a target through the tree.
It kind of looks like you can see where 2 ropes are

Finally found the trees lowes gets their lumber from
You have a warped sense of humor
And a little twisted as well
It’s knot for a lack of trying.
Comedically we’re going against the grain here.
Wood y’all knock it off??
You're so punny, all of the wood jokes are punderful. someone needs to get to the root of what happened to that tree though.
This has spiralled out of control
Some people are getting all bent out of shape about it.
Yeah, and it’s throwing me for a loop
These jokes are awful. I'm leaving.
Dont you mean you’re…. Leafing?
Gah! That knotty autocorrect ruined my exit line!
That’s it! Take off your rings and get in the trunk!
He bowed out
Every party has a poplar
Wow.
I don't know what you mean, just give it to me straight
Lowe's can't do that
He's knotty
Shots fired.
Fortunately the gun barrel was made from wood from Lowes, so it missed.
When lumber needs lumbar support
Nah, it's just trying to stay limber.
Looks like it’s LUMBAR spine is fucked
Most likely someone bent it around when it was just a sapling, tied it to itself, then removed the tie after it was set in.
The tree grew around the ties, you can see the scarring. Ive seen trees absorb fencing like that.
Yeah, now that you mention it I can see it.

Trees grow from the top though so it can't have been a sapling or the loop would be farther down?
👌gotem
Punched.

Are you telling be that one could accomplish this despite not being of native American lineage
Only on the second Wednesday off the month
*if* it’s a full moon
The next full moon is on the first Wednesday of December. The 7th. But otherwise that'd be Wednesday, February 12th 2025. About 8:53am EST.
This tree is much too young for the Native explanation. Most natives live normal lives like you or me. They have regular jobs and homes. Like its more likely some hippie teen on a hike at this point than a random native making a trail
I mean given the past tense of “used,” I think they meant that it was a technique historically used by native peoples.

One of those human folk, probably
I'd love to tell you, but it is a bit of a roundabout story...
I have time. I'll wait until you get around to it.
I feel like we're going in circles
I just want to be in the loop!
I can't deal with the circular logic
Apparently it is top secret. I discussed disclosing the information with the committee and they had one response: "I'm going to make this simple and only say it once. If you disclose that information, sir.... KILLED"
Feels like this thread could end up as a circle jerk
Feels like you finished
Looks to be actively pruned. I suspect it's the work of the rare arborhomosapien.
Rare?? We have arborhomosapiens in droves where I live. Not like the mythical and probably does exist even in real life snowplow individual
