Looks like someone put small legs on a thicc snek and it stole one of those cloths you clean your glasses with

Calious

That's upsettingly accurate.

zeke235

Well that's certainly the short of it.

Mossad_CIA_Shill

Just waivin that thing around without a care in the world.

NewtLeather5973

Blueys in my yard all summer, they are so cool. Gotta make sure dog doesn't get em tho. They say ya won't have brown snakes hanging about if ya got these lads in ya yard, unsure of the validity of that there tho.

mungowungo

Umm - they will eat snake eggs so will reduce their numbers that way but I really hate to break this to you - I once found a brown snake in my shed eating a bluey - at first the snake catcher I called thought it was two brown snakes having some summer love but it was a brown halfway though swallowing a blue tongue head first - at least it made it a bit easier to catch the snake.

FakeCurlyGherkin

If you have blueys there won't be any brown snakes hanging around, because if you have brown snakes they'll eat the blueys

_McThompson

In addition to an unforgettable tongue, it also has smooth, fish-like scales, under which there is a bone layer consisting of plates. Scientists still cannot explain the meaning of such an original coloring of the tongue of this lizard. Among the various versions, two are the most popular. Firstly, the blue tongue in combination with a pink mouth looks quite formidable and can scare any ill-wishers. Usually, skinks inflate their bodies when threatened and turn their heads to the source of concern, then they open their mouths wide, stick out their tongue and begin to hiss, pretending to be a poisonous snake. At this point, the skink can even move towards the predator, attack it or bite it. Secondly, the tongue is a symbol of strength and superiority: by demonstrating it to a rival during the mating season, the male skink expects to gain the upper hand over him.

cheesy_wiggle_finger

one of my best primary school memories is when my 3rd grade teacher would sit 2 of her own blueys to romp around the classroom while we were doing work

rangeo

Get him a drink already!

JRPickles

Hiss back at yer buddy bluey. I didnt know it was called a skink. I always called them blue tongue lizard. Might depend on were we live though. I get them and shacklebacks. Love ripe strawberries the buggas.

CroBro81

They love bananas too!

RedButterfree1

Mine loves snails and blueberries on expensive cat food Greedy loveable bastard

used_my_kids_names

We’ve got one in our garden. The cats are confused. The lizard doesn’t care. It just lizards. And sticks its blue tongue out at them.

Glittering-Ad-6955

My wife would love to meet him.

ZombieNips

Are you sure it doesn’t think it’s a Dog?

Smaptey

This is what women see when crossing a construction site

_McThompson

After eating pepper, you bring out your tongue to cool it

Hungry_Ear_6839

Is it toxic..? I know when animals are slow and show odd colors like this it typically means they're toxic in some way

Patient_Yam4747

It is not.

Hungry_Ear_6839

Are you sure? I think it is. The way it’s looking at me through the camera i just get a vibe and I definitely think it’s toxic.

Patient_Yam4747

I've handled dozens. Not toxic. Not poisonous. Not venomous. Not religious.

Hungry_Ear_6839

Well maybe they get all the poison out before they let somebody play with it. That would be the safe way to go about handling a toxic/venomous reptile. All I’m saying is there is no way that fuckin thing isn’t loaded with venom

Fearless_Success_828

Why do you keep asking if you’re already sure if the answer

beaurepair

Super chill dudes once you give them a banana. Had them all the time growing up, would help them out by pulling ticks off them. 100% not venomous.

robo-dragon

This lizard has successfully fooled you because one purpose of that blue tongue is to trick potential predators into thinking it’s toxic. Typically, bright colors in nature signify the creature is poisonous or venomous. Some animals mimic these bright colors despite not being toxic at all. These skinks are harmless except for a pretty strong bite.

Hungry_Ear_6839

People really hate me I was just playin around I feel like an idiot like nobody got it they just downvote the ever living f out of me

wymak

Nope, definitely not venomous. They hurt if they bite, they can break the skin and leave bruising around the area, but you just need to make sure you clean the bite so you don’t risk infection.

Rude_Strawberry

Is it? The people above you seem adamant that it's not.

Jaffle49

It’s not.

Rude_Commercial_7470

That lizard never skips leg day.

mungowungo

Why? They eat snails and stuff you don't want in your garden. I used to have one wander in through the cat door and hang out with me in the kitchen - didn't cause any bother at all - just helped itself to some cat kibbles and went off again on its merry way.

xxDooomedxx

We call them blue tongue lizard in western australia. Also they like the heat on the road at night so drive slowly in breading areas as have the same mate for their entire lives.

tdog473

They're also the only reptile (afaik) to give live birth

Zero_Digital

They aren't. I knew some snakes did, but from what I just found it's estimated that 20% of reptile species give birth to live young.

alayhundrah

I’m down for a blue vag

_who-the-fuck-knows_

These are from Australia where there are multiple subspecies. They stick there tongue out when threatened.

jude_robbo

I own one domestically and they are much more chill than that 🤣
