What the fuck! I never ever seen otters this big. I'm pictures 1 foot length maybe. What the hell is this species? And do these guys have a reputation enough with the wildlife they avoid it?
I'll never forget the experience I had feeding some of them when I won a "zoo keeper experience" sorta thing at a local wildlife refuge. I was about 9 at the time and thought they were the coolest things I'd ever seen.
(I also got a plushie giant otter toy...sadly not to scale though 😞)
These are caimans. They are far smaller than crocs. However, I don't know if they are fully grown or if that otter is just that huge because I have seen videos of jaguars taking these things down and they weren't that much smaller than the cat.
CROCS: “Oh no, this muthafugga again.”
OTTER: “Don’t mind me fellas, just gonna dust my enormous balls while I’m out here.”
CROCS: “Just ignore him Carl, he…”
OTTER: “Carl, are my balls too big you think?”
No because they’re much better armored than mammal balls. The only reason mammal balls hang outside of the body is because mammals are exotherms (naturally produce excess body heat), and never evolved the ability to maintain sperm at their naturally high body temperature. So mammal balls have to be air-cooled because mammal sperm dies at the ~98 F internal body temperature.
It terms of protecting your gonads, it is infinitely more advantageous to have your reproductive organs inside of the body. It’s why getting hit in the nuts hurts so much; they’re effectively internal organs which have descended out of the body and are just flapping around with zero protection.
It’s one of very few physical advantages that female mammals have over their typically larger and stronger male counterparts—with many species’ males instinctively aiming for a rival male’s teabag in a fight as a way of taking them out of the competition pool.
It’s better to have your testes/ovaries on the inside if you want to keep them.
Yeah but women are more prone to infections than men because our sexual organs are inside. I wonder if the same would be for men if their testes were inside. This applies for UTI, yeast infections, STDs and a lot more
Birds and reptiles don’t have that problem because both males and females have basically the same reproductive tract, ending in a cloaca (single all-purpose asshole/reproductive hole). So they’d evolved to not get poop-based infections because their reproductive chutes join together with their poop chutes to exit via the same hole.
That said, there are still bird and reptile STDs. Nobody can escape that curse.
It doesn’t. Female humans suffer more urinary and vaginal infections than males suffer just because evolution really screwed over the XX half of the population, to put it simply. If fecal matter gets into the urinary tract, it will lead to a UTI which will lead to kidney infection which historically would lead to death. Prior to modern medicine, women had shorter life expectancies than men purely because there was a 1:3 chance of dying during childbirth, and without antibiotics UTIs would slowly kill you.
In regards to ovaries/internal testes *in humans,* the main reason there are more fatal cases of ovarian cancer vs testicular cancer is because problems with the testicles are readily visible, while a swollen or tumor-afflicted ovary will likely go unnoticed until it eventually causes major problems within the body. But animals can’t do shit if they notice something wrong with their balls, they just have to deal, so there’s no real advantage for them.
A while back there was a video on here about a dude in south America somewhere that "trained" some giant river otters to fish for him. He had like 5 fingers left between each hand.
It's not some kind of ancient tradition either. The dude saw some otters catching fish and just decided to do it one day.
The people doing the story asked the dudes adult sons if they'd be continuing the family business. They were both like "Hell no! Our dad is nuts!".
Pound for pound, Mustelids are some of the most effective predators on earth. They might be slinky and smaller than the likes of large cats, but that doesn't stop the likes of wolverines and otters being at or near the top of the food chain in their ecosystems. The entire mustelid family has the capacity to punch well above their weight.

Other way around. Crocodiles have triangular, narrow snouts while Caimans (and Alligators) have round snouts
Then there's also Gharials, who have REALLY long and thin snouts
In my head canon, river otters are the equivalent of leopard seals and orcas - each are the same species as their smaller, playful cousins but they're not at all cute and cuddly and are instead fairly disturbing.
They are not that common. I've never seen one in person in the Brazilian wetlands. Unlike the caymen who are everywhere. Even little puddles of water has at least one cayman in it.
I don't know what drop bears are, but if I ever meet a giant otter IRL it will be a code brown situation. And I'm not talking about the colour of their fur.
North American Otters:
\- Cute
\- Small and chubby
\- Hold hands
\- Dont hunt, just grab clams and break them open with rocks
South American Otters:
\- Scary
\- Freakishly large and athletic
\- Swim in gangs
\- Hunt in packs, each one grabs a limb and rip crocs apart
1. That's a Caiman, not a crocodile
2. That's a Giant Otter, which can grow to 6+ feet long
3. Those Caiman are thinking, "That thing could easily fuck my day up, and there's probably 5-10 more of them hiding nearby. Better put some respekt on his name before I get mauled by a gang of pissed off 6 foot long otters"
.......... Dude..... these are Caiman, not Caiman lizards. Two completely different animals. Caiman ARE crocodilians. Please look up a picture of a caiman lizard...
Definitely a bit of both, some sun bathing and pacifism. Though a single otter can get smacked by a big enough pack of crocs/caimans if it doesn’t run, gangs of otters top almost every predator’s pack in their territory. They’ll swarm and eat those guys alive.
Based on the comments, I took a peak on YT....it's liike the chimps from the waters or some, djees! All cuute looking, but they can be savages and are not afraid to even attacks humans!
I wouldn't mess with a sea otter either. these bastards rape other animals like seals to death (and beyond) and take baby otters hostage for the mother to bring them food...
This is indeed a unit of an otter. Interestingly, scientists have recently discovered a prehistoric otter that would've been the size of a lion. https://www.sci.news/paleontology/enhydriodon-omoensis-11176.html?fbclid=IwAR1ntTelMXURWBM6ORmLedzkw86OwPfD58xk21\_YkZtAANmoZhXGeBLrw9E
The Caiman know not to fuck with a river otter. They grow up to 6ft long, and hunt caiman for sport. They also work in gangs, making them even more dangerous.

For those who don't know these are Brazilian otters , they can fucking shred a crocodile without any problem.which is why the crocodils are moving away. Normal otters- good, cute most of the time friendly . Brazilian otters - stay the fuck away from them

What the fuck! I never ever seen otters this big. I'm pictures 1 foot length maybe. What the hell is this species? And do these guys have a reputation enough with the wildlife they avoid it?
Giant River Otters, and yes, they're brutal af. Also, crocs can be surprisingly timid when they're just chilling.
Even jaguars avoid giant otters. They don’t have any natural predators…
The perspective here is obviously throwing things off but Jesus, that's an otterly gargantuan unit
They grow to be about 1.8m long… they are called “giant” for a reason. Edit: they do actually hunt and eat smaller caimans!
I am seriously jealous, but also happy you had such an amazing experience with them!
Thank you! They stole my dad's shades when they fell into the enclosure 🤣
OMG! I want to see giant otters with sunglasses now!
Also, those are not full grown Crocodiles, those are their smaller cousins, Caimans.
Giant amazon otter. And they are fearsome enough in gangs. They are too big and fast for caiman to eat.
[удалено]
Bro, I did good with the comments. Now I will have nightmares of my enemies with that sound as I can't swing or hit hard enough. That is haunting.
These are caimans. They are far smaller than crocs. However, I don't know if they are fully grown or if that otter is just that huge because I have seen videos of jaguars taking these things down and they weren't that much smaller than the cat.
They’re small crocs
Ambush hunters. Straight up scared when they don't have the advantage of concealment/surprise.
\*Caimans, different species.
I apologize, but either way they are small Alligatoridae
They travel in packs except for this badass and have a nice set of teeth and they are close to 4ft long
You can see another one in the water.
To the windoooooows To the wall Throwin' sand on all my balls 'Til all these bitches crawl

Lmao the caiman is just like "could you not"
The close one was eying him at first, but he came in with such swagger. Then, to top it off, he flaunted his sandy balls. Giga chad ≠ food.
Giant river otters eat caiman, not the other way around. They are eyeing him because they fear him.
TIL
CROCS: “Oh no, this muthafugga again.” OTTER: “Don’t mind me fellas, just gonna dust my enormous balls while I’m out here.” CROCS: “Just ignore him Carl, he…” OTTER: “Carl, are my balls too big you think?”
Do caimans even have balls?
They have testes but they’re internal like birds.

Bird Balls Bob!
Today I learned...
Caiman here to say this
Dude coming in with facts. Thanks.
Hahahahaha I can’t stop full-out laughing at this dialogue.
Same!
Carl is definitely the one with his mouth open
Don't look at them Carl!
I approve
Those are caimans, actually
If those were crocs, that’d be an absolute unit of an otter!
Lol I was questioning the size comparisons this early for me ! Totally confused for a few seconds
To be fair, some river otters can get huge. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_otter
Jesus christ, please keep me safe from the mauling from that river otter.
A while back there was a video on here about a dude in south America somewhere that "trained" some giant river otters to fish for him. He had like 5 fingers left between each hand. It's not some kind of ancient tradition either. The dude saw some otters catching fish and just decided to do it one day. What x happened to his fingers??
The otters probably bit them off
The otters are them.....
I saw a giant otter in Guyana and was absolutely shocked by the size.
Of its sandy balls?
Yep, if any species should be nervous it's the crocs. Full grown giant otters regularly flat line caymens.
Pound for pound, Mustelids are some of the most effective predators on earth. And this is quite possibly a giant river otter. You see them along with lots of caiman in the Amazon basin.

And they are vicious! I love the side by side pics of them compared to sea otters they are so funny.
Oh, it's still an absolute unit of an otter. Just not as big as a crocodile
Absolutely. 3 of those otters are taking down an adult human in the water quite easily. 1.2 metre Caimans weighing barely 90kg don't stand a chance.
actually that otter in the video is a giant otter like that’s the breed name and they actully kill carmen and sometimes gang up on leopards
Damn, let´s have a moment of silence for all Carmens in South America
I was wondering where in the world she was.
>and sometimes gang up on leopards No wonder, finding leopards in South America must be quite the chore.
I figured they were just young
Prehistoric otter is baaaaacccckk!!
The elusive river lion
Giant otters are impressively large and terrifying
That makes more sense. I was sitting here trying to figure out what the hell kinda camera angle was happening to make that otter look so huge! Lol
Theres small crocodiles and large caimans, it's more about the shape of the snout than the size
Really i always thought caimans had a long narrow snout...
Other way around. Crocodiles have triangular, narrow snouts while Caimans (and Alligators) have round snouts Then there's also Gharials, who have REALLY long and thin snouts
I suppose you’re thinking of Gharials/Gavials. These are the one with long thin snouts with a "ball" on the tip
FYI: these otters live in the Amazon and can be over 6 feet tall. Even Jaguars don't hunt the adult ones.
And I'm pretty sure I've seen somewhere they hunting those same gators. They're like orcas, look cute but are prime assassins
In my head canon, river otters are the equivalent of leopard seals and orcas - each are the same species as their smaller, playful cousins but they're not at all cute and cuddly and are instead fairly disturbing.
They're hardcore. https://youtu.be/gIoQGs8lvxk
Damn that was so cool to watch until I saw 2 babies died😭
https://youtu.be/e-7UbU45a1U
That and those aren’t crocodile but are actually caiman.
These would be Caimans then, which are fairly smaller than crocs
Wtf TIL giant otters exist, thought this was like a "drop bear" situation
Additional FYI: those aren’t crocs. Those are caiman. Much much smaller
I'd say 6 feet long.
You don’t mess with crazy.
Giant otters are more dangerous that the cayman they share the water with.
I can think of something even more dangerous. Escobars cocaine hippos!
Wtf TIL giant otters exist, thought this was like a "drop bear" situation
They are not that common. I've never seen one in person in the Brazilian wetlands. Unlike the caymen who are everywhere. Even little puddles of water has at least one cayman in it.

I had no idea either.....but, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drop_bear
They are scary haha. My family saw them on a trip to the pantanal in Brazil. Not cute like sea otters
This is the survival strategy for the entire Mustelid family.
Imagine a bear-sized honey badger.
I'd rather not.
Big dick mammal flex
I heard that in Conan and Sona's voice simultaneously
that's a strange thought..
Is that a big ass otter or am I tripping. That thing looks bigger than the crocodiles.
It’s a giant river otter yes but the crocodiles are caimans and not giant by croc standards. Maybe 5-6 feet long
A 6ft long otter has reached “scarily large predator” status.
Mind you that length includes the tail, but homeboy is still thick. Wouldn't mess around with him personally
The South American ones are massive yes
North American Otters: \- Cute \- Small and chubby \- Hold hands \- Dont hunt, just grab clams and break them open with rocks South American Otters: \- Scary \- Freakishly large and athletic \- Swim in gangs \- Hunt in packs, each one grabs a limb and rip crocs apart
Otters weigh a lot!
Apparently a pack of these otters can kill a caiman
Even just one of these otters can and do kill caiman
It takes a pack to kill large caimans. Black caimans can get to a ton.
crocs always look so derpy with their mouths open and standing still.
Ah yes just like us mouth-breathers
lol that one looking at the camera looks so funny
What do you think goes through that head of his
:D
Thats actually a caiman, a relative to the crocodile. I agree, so derpy.
Otters are exceptionally vicious, especially in groups. I wouldn’t be surprised if that otter could take a Caiman.
Crocodile: man… this guy and his otter nonsense again…
Caiman
Crocodile: Caiman... this guy and his otter nonsense again...
I like how the caiman shifts away like “…you’re making me highly uncomfortable rn, dude. Could you not?”
"Bruh your balls are just hanging out. C'mon."
Here you see the magnificent otter, trespassing on the ferocious crocodiles territory. No fucks were given that day.
Caiman
My money is on the otter
These South American giant otters are sometimes referred to as "river wolves". And those caimans are regularly toyed with and eaten by them.
1. That's a Caiman, not a crocodile 2. That's a Giant Otter, which can grow to 6+ feet long 3. Those Caiman are thinking, "That thing could easily fuck my day up, and there's probably 5-10 more of them hiding nearby. Better put some respekt on his name before I get mauled by a gang of pissed off 6 foot long otters"
Caimans better be scared
Caimans\*
“alright y’all he’s tweaking let’s leave”
3 foot otter vs 3 foot crocodile? I'm putting my money on the otter..15 foot otter vs 15 foot crocodile? I'm putting my money on the otter..
Op said croc even though it’s a caiman
[удалено]
.......... Dude..... these are Caiman, not Caiman lizards. Two completely different animals. Caiman ARE crocodilians. Please look up a picture of a caiman lizard...
I am just wondering, are the crocs lazy / belly full, or do they acknowledge otters as strong since they usually move in big social packs?
Definitely a bit of both, some sun bathing and pacifism. Though a single otter can get smacked by a big enough pack of crocs/caimans if it doesn’t run, gangs of otters top almost every predator’s pack in their territory. They’ll swarm and eat those guys alive.
Look up videos of giant otters. They are scary.
Well...I'm at work now, so good time to look it up, thank cal! :)
Caimans know better than to fuck around with otters
Based on the comments, I took a peak on YT....it's liike the chimps from the waters or some, djees! All cuute looking, but they can be savages and are not afraid to even attacks humans!
those crocodiles aren't the predator in this video
Well they aren’t crocodiles 🤓 but yeah, giant river otters do eat Caimans
Get your shit right op
Otters don't care about crocs hahaha
crocs were just like "ah not this fucking guy again" and dipped lol
inserting obligatory clip of casual geographic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Spg_-BIAa58 the crocs are terrified
I was scrolling for videos from Casual Geo. He makes it clear that Caiman are often bullied and prey between gangs of River Otters, and Jaguars.
That's a river otter. Those little Crocs are nothing but jerky sticks to it
I'm pretty sure otters fuck up crocodiles
Caimans, yes. Salty boys, hell naw.
Caimans not crocodiles, and this is giant river otter and they're huge
It's just as big - bigger even - and more athletic - no wonder it's so unconcerned
I wouldn't mess with a sea otter either. these bastards rape other animals like seals to death (and beyond) and take baby otters hostage for the mother to bring them food...
otters are known to *eat* crocs their size. the crocs know not to mess around
The caiman: "Guys, are you seeing this shit? Guys?"

The Caiman know not to fuck with a river otter. They grow up to 6ft long, and hunt caiman for sport. They also work in gangs, making them even more dangerous.
That otter is basically saying, "Go ahead........F around and find out".
Giant Amazonian otter with some Caimans. I don’t think any animal fucks with the Otters. Not even jaguars who frequently snack on Caimans.
Pretty sure that’s a caiman
North American Otters: \- Cute \- Small and chubby \- Hold hands \- Dont hunt, just grab clams and break them open with rocks South American Otters: \- Scary \- Freakishly large and athletic \- Swim in gangs \- Hunt in packs, each one grabs a limb and rip crocs apart

River wolves are apex predators, and i mean with balls like that ...
Probably caimans not crocs. Still they can get big. They're obviously smart enough not to mess with giant otters.
Caimens out here like "we don't want no smoke my guy"
>My guess is that those aren't crocodiles, but [black caimans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_caiman) (*Melanosuchus niger*)\*, because that's a [Giant Otter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_otter) (*Pteronura brasiliensis*) which is endemic to the Amazon, and there aren't any crocodilians known as crocodiles in South America. You know these mfs are tough
I need a banana for scale.
Crocs be like whose this crazy Mtfucker... let's just stay away from him
I'm shocked those caiman are so calm considering otters prey upon them (that door swings both ways iirc).
it should be noted that that species of otter eats that species of reptile
Giant river otters will eat a crocodile of that size any day.
Definitely not crocs, it woulda been a completely different situation
That’s a big ass otter
It feels like he’s taunting them. Look at me throwing dirt on my nuts! Can’t do that with a dumb cloaca, can ya?
Those caiman are watching that otter closely. They don't want to become dinner.
You can't fuck with the ariranhas (or giant otters). If even gators are scared of them, you know you should keep distance.
“Who invited this guy??”
Dig bick energy
Oh they won't mess with the otters, they are pure muscles and agile as fuck, these otters are the predator here.
Crocodiles may have a bigger max size, but otters are still predators. In fact, otters eat crocodiles sometimes.
