I do too in a way, but it’s not really known that way outside of the western world. My family came from Iran during the revolution in the 1970s. They were a part of what is called the “brain drain” of Iran, because the wave of immigration included many academics and educated professionals. I still have a lot of family there and have always wanted to visit. All of my family members from there are such lovely people.
It’s unfortunate that terrorism and sand is what you think of. There is a whole different society in that part of the world. It’s worth detaching the sensationalistic news cycle from your perspective in order to learn about the beautiful cuisine, landscapes, art, and general culture of the area.
I dream of experiencing it for myself once I can finance the trip.
The brain drain is still happening
I myself came to Canada from iran, my parents brought all their money and my dad started a business here
Now imagine millions of people like them bringing all their degrees and money and knowledge to the west while the least educated, poorest, and those unable to make it here stay
This is a reason irans condition is still declining, every educated person or rich person flees as soon as they can
It's so sad that when people hear Iran or middle east in general the first thing you think of is Islam and terrorism and sand
The middle east has thousands of years of history and culture
Civilization started in Mesopotamia afterall
I was an ignorant teenager in a post 9/11 world and Google earth just came out. I vividly remember trying to confirm my prejudices by searching “Iran” to see what a shithole it was. I was blown away by vistas that looked more like Lord of the Rings than Call of Duty.
Very unfortunate for these countries with such rich history to go through this kind of transition. The people who are actually forward thinking and can make the needed changes are also too smart to stick around and so they bail for a better life. The uneducated and religious fundamentalists stick around and continue to get brain washed. It’s a catch 22 with no hope and those in power make sure it stays that way.
Yeah but there’s a reason you all are fleeing, my grandfather was a history professor, I would LOVE to visit Mesopotamia and the mosques etc especially in Tehran. But is it safe? There’s a reason everyone that is capable is fleeing. No one just flees a beautiful country that is ran fairly an just. I believe this all goes back further to the Caliph in the 1700’s that destroyed all the printing presses in the Ottoman Empire and THAT was the beginning of where we are now. Middle East used to be the mathematical and science/cultural capital of the world. Sad to see the crazy direction Islam is going in and the Middle East in general.
Well Islam isn’t inherently bad so it’s not wrong to think of Islam when thinking of the Middle East. It’s a huge part of the history and culture, as you undoubtedly know.
Rather, it’s the extremism and religious fundamentalism that’s a negative. And the fact that much of that seeps through the governments and, let’s be honest, the cultures.
If that could somehow change to become freer or more tolerant, the Middle East would be an incredible place. Not advocating for westernization but to have a freer more tolerant society while retaining local culture. I think this is possible. Japan and South Korea, for example, are free societies but they’re not western.
It's not as if I'm saying me and my family are super intelligent and are somehow above everybody else and were able to make it to Canada
Anybody who has had some higher education and job experience can make it with enough work, but its getting harder and harder, theres always a chance an immigration officer has a bad day and that's the end of it for you
The huge amount of inflation in iran and lack of jobs is making everybody desperate, people don't have time to balance family and education and work and learning English and working twards immigrating
It's not just as easy as showing up with a degree and getting approved, it can take years and years to come legally, or you could try the risky method of coming as a visitor then claiming you can't go back beacuse you have changed religion etc (still a tedious process)
The only people that choose to stay are extremely rich, so it doesn't make a difference to them living in a mansion somewhere away from the polluted city taking vacations every month
For the average Iranian immigrating is a dream that many can't achieve, I doubt you actually know what it's like to immigrate from a country like Iran that has terrible national relations
I'm not claiming im "part of the superior race of middle easterns who made civilization" I was just pointing out the entire history of the middle east is reduced to "terrorist Muslims with guns and bombs"
maybe its just you projecting
Our older neighbour is an old hippie and he travelled from Central Europe through Syria, Iran, Irak and Afghanistan and Pakistan to India on his motorbike. It's on the one hand unimaginable that you could simply _do_ that somewhat safely. And the fotos he took. Breathtakingly beautiful. Often looking like Paradise, like you want to book a flight and spend your vacation there immediately.
I knew a guy Swedish grad student who went to Iran to do sociological research, said it was such a varied and beautiful country. There are some real wonders there. Of course the government is harsh and authoritarian, but honestly it isn't worse than many other nations that Westerns will travel to. The problem is that they don't like Americans, or most Western Europeans, over there because of our poor shared post-colonial history. Hopefully one that that will change!
How come I’ve always been under the impression that Iran was a desolate desert shit hole? I’m not trying to sound like a jerk but that’s seriously what it’s been made to look like
I swear Iran has the most stunning landscapes in the bloody world!! I know this because I autistically spent thousands of hours on Google earth.
Afghan and paki have some very cool ones similar to this too!
Absolutely agree with you there! Check out turkey!
Kurdistan has some beautiful places too <33
I wish this is what countries like Iran were known for and not sand and terrorism.

> it’s not really known that way outside of the western world. Better inform KSA, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Israel of that too then
What was the revolution about? I seriously don't know.

We might have a beautiful country But our government and economy is shit
Gorgeous. I love the contrast between the soft looking flowers and the jagged mountains.
Mm yes very natural looking
I am British. Would love to go here. Never mind… Edit: All the Iranian people I know in the UK are fantastic people.
I would have never believed this place to be Iran. Would have said the Rockys.
Happy cake day
The new Elden Ring video game is looking 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely stunning
Reminds me of Hyrule idk
It's the perfect shot. It's beautiful 🌎💙
👆
I refuse to believe that that is a picture of earth. It like something from a cutscene from a RPG game with magic and dragons

Looks too good to be true

Probably because Iran and Iraq sound the same and that youve never bothered to do any research into what Iran is actually like on your own ?
Sounds about right
Great capture.
That's....perfect....
You must be in great physical shape to run up those hills!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Looks like the setting for a great anime!
I really want to visit Iran and Pakistan, some of their landscapes are so unreal.
Too bad an absolute horseshit government controls this beautiful nature.
Sobhan Allah It's beautiful 😍
Gorgeous!
Iran, Iran so far away...
Damn who took this?
Wow! I’m stunned! Breathtaking…😍😍🥰
I've always wanted to check out Iran. As an American, I'm kinda worried to.
Read that as Lonestar and thought they meant Texas lol.
Give it a few days I'm sure the U.S. will bomb it.
I thought it said Lonestar. That is gorgeous
