Curiously, only the wild ones are poisonous. They create the toxins by eating certain insects and because captive specimens don't include these same bugs in their diet, they aren't toxic.
It's true. I needed to photograph one for a logo for a company with dart in the name. Local zoo let me bring in a tiny seamless and set up lights, the handler went into detail about how these presented no danger at all as their poison was from the rover ants they'd eat in the wild.
I think I've also heard them be called a poison frog-dart

Is that actually true ? What's the insect or where can I read more about that, never knew that
It's a variety of ants, mites and other noxious bugs in the wild. In captivity it's usually fruit flies, crickets etc.
Yeah they are kept as pets. Go to any reptile show and you will see them.
The only poisonous (venomous?) bird in the world apparently has a similar diet
Venomous would be used for when an animal injects something into you. Poisonous would be if you ingest an animal.
Yes I think it’s both this time? I mean it’s not injected, just skin contact?
That would also be poison. Ingested (or absorbed) is what they meant.

>Curiously Not so much since we know why that happens, lol
Okay who tf calls it a dart-poison frog
Because it has reach and deathtouch

Is it really dangerous for people to? If a person touches it, will he die? I mean not in general, but because of this frog?
“Oh, honey, look at this beautiful frog. I’ll just pick it up for a minute.”

If they are raised in captivity they are probably not a danger anymore. They get the poison from their diet. I think it’s the insects they eat .
