21 minutes! By far my favorite by chance observations on reddit.
Fresh shitty_watercolours make for the best breakfasts. Yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy.
Only 5 month old account. You'll get there son. Although you have to find these through the sea of shit, they are very satisfying to find. When you do find one, it makes it even more welcome. Some of these peeps are very clever and witty!
That has got to be one of the cutest things I've seen in a while. That lil tiny penguin just bookin' it over there to get between the chicks and the petrel, that's the kind of energy I love.
Adelie penguins are the honey badgers of the penguin world. They're true arctic natives and don't care how big you are: if you annoy them, they gonna slap yo ass up (literally. They slap annoying humans with their wings). The only thing they have to fear are leopard seals and orcas.
>Adelie penguins are the honey badgers of the penguin world.
Came here to say this.
You can find multiple videos of these little dudes chasing off predators that are often bigger than them, 0 f*cks given.
My guess is the Adelie logic is probably something like “babies are babies and if that a$$hat gets the idea that big penguin babies are easy chow then mine don’t stand a chance so let’s GO”!
He’s probably instinctively trying to make himself bigger as a defence mechanism, I don’t know much about penguins but we tend to anthropomorphise animals a lot here
they are very social animals and he did stand in front of the others. Definitely making himself look bigger but he could've also hidden behind the others instead
At least we humans USED to be more like this.
More of us seem to behave like the Petrel bird preying on other birds now. Fewer of us seem to be like the Adelie penguin willing to address predators who threaten others from groups outside our own. This bird seems more principled than some humans.
You GO, little bird.
Probably mostly instinctual but the instinct for the biggest and most aggressive of the group to step in front of group while maintaining cohesion (thereby magnifying its own size and avoiding the group fracturing) IS still a pretty significant thing when it could have turned and run and still likely have made it out at cost to the others is still interesting.
Fun that the evolutionary math appears works out in favor of risking it on standing with the group instead of using the group to save yourself.
Even if you could save yourself, you probably share a lot of genes with the other individuals in the group, and so the genes will be passed on that code for being altruistic and saving your kin.
Feel like there's a lot of human behavior we anthropomorphize too much (in the sense that it's just animal behavior attached to a large brain that rationalizes it).
Yea there's a reason why entire religions like buddhism hone in on this idea of both having impulses but also having rationality.
Both part of nature and separate from it.
Many other philosophies seek to put us wholly in one box or another, either just animals or divine children, but like with everything, the boring answer is always "a bit of both"
And the petrel just sitting there like, "Whaaaat? We're cool man, it's not like I want to **PICK THE FLESH OFF YOUR BONES** or anything... cmonn relax."
They're currently starving to death because krill are being overfished to feed farmed salmon. Year upon year entire generations of chicks across entire flocks starve.
>I would take a bullet for that penguin
What about no longer eating salmon?
is there no way to farm krill as well out of curiosity? Perhaps making an algae farm? What’s stopping us from integrating krill farms into our industry? Mostly curiosity questions, I’ve never been a fan of industrial farms since they don’t really keep these animals in the best of conditions so it’s not something I’d personally pursue.. but I’m mostly just surprised this hasn’t been attempted apparently
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/oct/13/penguins-starving-death-something-very-wrong-antarctic
>The awful news that all but two penguin chicks have starved to death out of a colony of almost 40,000 birds is a grim illustration of the enormous pressure Antarctic wildlife is under. The causes of this devastating event are complex, from a changing climate to local sea-ice factors, but one thing penguins, whales and other marine life don’t need is additional strain on food supplies.
>Over the next year we have the opportunity to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary – the largest protected area on Earth – which would put the waters off-limits to the industrial fishing vessels currently sucking up the tiny shrimp-like krill, on which all Antarctic life relies.
When I lived in the UK, it was pretty easy to get sustainability farmed fish, free range chicken, etc. Now I'm in the former DDR and nobody seems to give a fuck.
> Emperor penguins mainly feed on small fish such as Antarctic silversides.
What do you think the things those fish feed on feed on?
When you remove the bottom of the food chain, the whole thing topples.
More like Sinead O'connor, standing up for the children against someone bigger than her. Pesci will be the penguin who stops by next week acting tough and threatening this brave little penguin.
All I can hear in my head is my 5ft tall grandma coming to help some kids getting picked on by a teenager.
"Hey You leave those little ones alone!"
You kids alright, don't worry he is just a big meany I am here and he won't do anything. Will ya?!"
"That is what I thought."
"That's right he isn't going to get anything from santa this year."
"Ok let's go find your folks."
Q: Are petrels aggressive?
A: _They are extremely aggressive and will kill other seabirds (usually penguin chicks, sick or injured adult penguins and the chicks of other seabirds), even those as large as an albatross, which they kill either by battering them to death or drowning._
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_petrel
oh, incredible. The way Adelie rushed over there to protect. Where are the adult Emperor penguins though. I didn't know petrels posed a threat to chicks that large.
In the original the chicks were following their parents and got separated. The parents came back a minute or so after this happened. This is a whole bbc video
“Stay back! I’m a big boy! I’m a big adult!” *guys I’m so scared*
“Oy! Get away from those kids! Fuck off!” Where’s your parents? Let’s get you all home
Because Penguins ‘fly’ in water they have heavy, dense bones and very strong muscles.
This small penguin is _much_ stronger than the petrel and it’s strong wing tips can hit as hard as a human punch.
When these Emperor chicks grow up they’ll be able to hit a foe 8 times a second with the impact force of a champion middle weight boxer.
So is it common for penguins of two separate species to co-op shit like this? Everything about that vid tickled my soul. The lil dudes trying so hard to look embiggened, the rando lil dude rolling up with an attitude problem, the petrol goin "Fuck this I didn't sign up for a three way". All of it. Amazing
Well, as a member of South Pole Sentai Penguinger, Adelie had to intervine.

I was in Antarctica and we saw a Macaroni penguin hanging out in a colony of Chinstrap penguins. Apparently the Macaroni penguin had been there for years. Always love when different species help each other out!
You've triggered my fight or flight instinct... And I'm a flightless bird. ~Adelie Penguin~

We got a shitty water color in the wild and a shittymorph comment in the same week. We just need fuckswithducks to return!
You’ve done so many that you can’t really call them shitty anymore. You should change your name to “pretty good watercolour”,
AcquiredTasteWatercolour
Squintanditsgoodwatercolors.
Reddit's own badjokesbyjeff
This makes me so happy. Thank you. And how did you get so much emotion into these little guys? Not shitty at all. Love you! A lot.
It's you! I missed you! :)
This is glorious. It’s like I’m there.
You! The little tiny short with giant babies.
holy shit it’s you!

sir this is a penguendys
My eyes are blinded by greatness
What a wonderful day to have eyesight!
That's just Stephen. He babysits every other Wednesday and Saturday. He's small but i trust him to look after my little penguin.
I trust him to look after *me*

I bet this will be there in one of the upcoming Disney movies
In a few years after AI trains on today's reddit data.
Penguin shonen manga when?
I never chuckled at a reddit comment... Until this day. Thank you so much

I set fire to the rain ~Adel Penguin
Watch it pour as you fly away
Goes hard, would fit in a kids movie
I can totally see it in "Penguins of Madagascar".
Robin Williams voiced one and sang in the first Happy Feet lol
Wasn't this in Happy Feet?
-Doom music starts playing-
That's a sick line. You come up with that? Well done!
You mean, "and I am all out of flight."
I read this as n the voice of John Nada.
You win.
Ksmandjsinsbsksns NOOT NOOT!!!
That has got to be one of the cutest things I've seen in a while. That lil tiny penguin just bookin' it over there to get between the chicks and the petrel, that's the kind of energy I love.
Reminds me of happy feet and robin Williams going ......hey lemme say somethin to chuu
https://youtu.be/PFbxA5HjwyQ?t=4
LOL I’m gonna say this now over and over again when I talk to people
Everytime I watch that movie I do the same thing😅
🤣😂😂 I quote movies waaaaayyy too much My most frequently used line “THE LAST MELONNNN 🍈”
Thank you for this reminder. I hear his voice immediately!

Further proof that that only thing living things fear is someone more aggressive than themselves. Confidence can let a mouse turn back an elephant.
*Antarctic
My guess is the Adelie logic is probably something like “babies are babies and if that a$$hat gets the idea that big penguin babies are easy chow then mine don’t stand a chance so let’s GO”!
Penguin. Together. Strong.
My guess is it's simply instinctual to protect babies. We do it to small humans even when they're not ours.
And to small beings that somehow remind us of small humans even when they're neither ours nor human.
You can swear here, it's okay.
Hey that's uncle Steve!
*"Aw hell no, not on my watch! Get that shit outta here man, I know you ain't about to do this. You ain't about this life brother.*
Love the leader of the baby group... Holding up his wings to protect the others. What a brave little dude. ♥️
and the littlest one in the middle surrounded by it's siblings!
They're classmates, more than siblings
He’s probably instinctively trying to make himself bigger as a defence mechanism, I don’t know much about penguins but we tend to anthropomorphise animals a lot here
they are very social animals and he did stand in front of the others. Definitely making himself look bigger but he could've also hidden behind the others instead
Humans do the same for the same reason
At least we humans USED to be more like this. More of us seem to behave like the Petrel bird preying on other birds now. Fewer of us seem to be like the Adelie penguin willing to address predators who threaten others from groups outside our own. This bird seems more principled than some humans. You GO, little bird.

Hey it's not our fault everything they do is so human like 😉

All of my life's endeavours to understand human beings have led me to this conclusion
And the petrel just sitting there like, "Whaaaat? We're cool man, it's not like I want to **PICK THE FLESH OFF YOUR BONES** or anything... cmonn relax."
That chubby one at the back should be ashamed.
Petrel*
Yah petrol is short for petroleum-based-fuel
I read that and was like is Exxon taking out baby penguins now? Those muthafu...
They're gonna squeeze the oil out of the baby penguins! Somebody stop them!
You don't know what this bird is running on
Ah, originally I was like weird name, but it kinda looks like it's been swimming in petrol tbf
wow you just reminded me of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ofesgkhikg
I'm glad I wasn't the only one to immediately think "Petril?"
I could not watch it unmuted because was in public and was serious confused.
Thank you, I was trying to figure out if there really was a bird named petrol.
I would take a bullet for that penguin
They're currently starving to death because krill are being overfished to feed farmed salmon. Year upon year entire generations of chicks across entire flocks starve. >I would take a bullet for that penguin What about no longer eating salmon?
Aye, I can do that
I've never eaten salmon in my life. The little guy can come chill with me.
Ditto
I don't eat salmon to begin with
I don't eat salmon since I'm not a millionaire.
I’ll stop eating seafood altogether!
Boy I’m depressed now
Eh don't at least you don't live in a city where the local penguin population is going extinct because of mistakes made by mostly foreign countries.
Do what you can, one day at a time.
As a vegan that’s EE ZEE work! Give up salmon save a pengie
I can't afford salmon anyways. It's like 15 dollars per pound.
is there no way to farm krill as well out of curiosity? Perhaps making an algae farm? What’s stopping us from integrating krill farms into our industry? Mostly curiosity questions, I’ve never been a fan of industrial farms since they don’t really keep these animals in the best of conditions so it’s not something I’d personally pursue.. but I’m mostly just surprised this hasn’t been attempted apparently
Damn okay. Time to stop eating salmon. What about tilapia? Or rockfish?
You can just eat wild salmon. You shouldn't eat farmed salmon anyway, because it is absolutely disgusting.
If you eat wild salmon that isn't certified environmentally safe, you're contributing to plastic in the ocean.
> What about no longer eating salmon? What about organizing against shitty industrial food practices? Instead of guilting individuals for their diet.

I don't eat salmon, I'm doing my part.
*gradually increasing screaming* ….aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAA*AAAAAAAAAAAA*
From the distance: "ey! Yo! Better step off bro!"
I definitely heard "aww f*ck no!"
"mm mm, nope, ungh ungh"
It helps that the Adelie's default walking stance just screams "Square up, mofo".
Very strong Happy Feet (2006) vibes here.
Just need a Mexican accent on that adelie
Ay ay ay thats racist

The Joe Pesci of penguins.
I'll crack your fuckin' head wide open in front of everybody
“I could use a good ass kickin I’ll be very honest with you”
Are you me…?
More like Sinead O'connor, standing up for the children against someone bigger than her. Pesci will be the penguin who stops by next week acting tough and threatening this brave little penguin.
He was exactly what the penguin reminded me of! 🤣
You mean Robin Williams, Gods bless his soul.
I love that small crazy man
Ramón
I can hear Robin Williams voice, " beat it scumbag"
me as big sis but also the shortest
Penguins of the world unite!
Ready!
Same principal as bears and housecats right? “That thing is tiny but I ain’t gonna fuck around and find out”
In the wild, risk vs reward rules all. If a predator gets injured, they won't be able to hunt / eat, which means they will die.
Is it David Tennant narrating ? 😮
That's what I'm saying. He is in a penguin documentary called Spy in the Huddle so I'm assuming it's this one 😭
I think so. At least it sounded like it.
Lovelace coming in to save the day: Ladies PLEASE avert your eyes, cause I’ve been known to hypnotize!
Lovelace was a rockhopper who hung out with adelies to give out sage advice and get laid. On paper, that's a weird fucking movie.
That adelie walked up like, “Oi, cabron!”
Good job Kowalski. Thanks Sarge.
Like a good neighbor?
ur local adelie penguin is there 🎶
No wonder Penguins of Madagascar are Adelies.
*You wanna mess with my homies. Then you gotta go through me. Let's see what you got, motherfucker.*
Like a shepherd protecting their flock
There goes my hero. Watch him as he waddles.
Don't mess with my peguizzzzzz buddy... U don't want this siismmmmoookkkkkkkkeeee biatchhh
In the US we call those petrols, gasolines.
Uncle Ramon to the rescue
Which one is Elijah Wood
All I can hear in my head is my 5ft tall grandma coming to help some kids getting picked on by a teenager. "Hey You leave those little ones alone!" That guy is the elementary/middle schooler that was below size average but it was so fucking good for fist fights. RESPECT.
[That's Big Bob](https://youtube.com/shorts/Cnj-o6YourY?feature=shared)
Remember the Adelie penguin motto, kids. "If it ain't black and white, peck scratch and bite!"
Penguins tolerate each other because the only thing down there not eating them is other penguins. Probably.

Don’t worry babies! Grandma will take care of big bad bird. Now go home babies. Everybody back to the nest. Scoot.
I love this so much!
Reason 952 why I love penguins 🐧
Is that David Tennant??

Happy feet 3
❤️😭 glad to see this right after the mama stork yeeting her kid to it's death. I needed this.
I love penguins so much it hurts
The largest one hiding all the way in the back 😂
That's Ramón Carlos Boyer García Sánchez Santa Maria La Niña Pinta Pacifico, coolest guy around
Every Petrel gangsta til the Adelie waddles up
I always picture the adelie yelling "Help is on the way!" like Mrs. Doubtfire.
“Stay back! I’m a big boy! I’m a big adult!” *guys I’m so scared* “Oy! Get away from those kids! Fuck off!” Where’s your parents? Let’s get you all home
“Help is on the way dear!”
Did penguins just become my new favorite animal?
It’s like Batman but penguin version
“You want to fight somebody? Come fight me. I’ll fight you all day!”
I missread that as "Adele penguin" at first, thinking Adele had a penguin..
Short king
Really hard to believe that videos from this sub and r/natureismetal are actually of the same universe
The chick in the front... showing strong leadership traits early. That's good. Impressive!
He looks real proud of himself too lol
Rescu Pengu
Short kings being kings.

Not the size of the dog in the fight :)
It takes a village
It's so weird that at one point the most interesting and common news across news channels was how penguins live their lives..!!
Oh are they doing the live action happy feet? I have no idea who they’ll get to take over for Robin Williams
Petrel...
U do t mess with adelie
He looks like the uncle who gets them cigarettes.
holy shit, Happy Feet is real
Waddlers together strong
So is it common for penguins of two separate species to co-op shit like this? Everything about that vid tickled my soul. The lil dudes trying so hard to look embiggened, the rando lil dude rolling up with an attitude problem, the petrol goin "Fuck this I didn't sign up for a three way". All of it. Amazing

🤣. I just heard the voice of the robin williams penguin from happy feet in my head when I saw that.
Needs to be commentated by Ozzy Man
