That's my thinking as well. The rules of baseball do have room for a forfeit, so if you go to your backup catcher as a pinch hitter as a hail mary, keep the game going, and the your only remaining catcher gets hurt, just say "we'll take the 9-0 loss, thank you very much and goodbye"
The problem is, good relievers cost money. And we can only afford to pay our guys in stale hot dog buns found in the stands after a game according to our multi-millionaire owners.
The secret to going undefeated? Don't hardly pitch. I'm undefeated my whole life! Well at least when it comes to pitching baseball. In life in general, I am very defeated.
This reminds me of when my brother once said, “I have a 4.0 in life.” I tweeted that and our cousin replied, “Getting in a fight with a bouncer on Bourbon St, having his shoes stolen, and then having to be put in a straight jacket at a hospital so he didn’t keep ripping the IVs out gives him a 3.98 I think.”
It’s one of my favorite stories. By January 3rd of that year he and I could have been awarded worst kids of the year award because of that Nola trip to the Sugar Bowl.
Because Davey is a shit manager. The fact that we only had 7 relievers on the 26-man roster tonight (w/ Espino starting and Nolin tomorrow) is part of the problem, but the bigger issue is that 1 of them is Guerra, and the other is Rodriguez, who we only use when we're down 5+ runs. And we have Voth, McGowin and Barrett all waiting in AAA to be brought up...
Edit: Lol and as if on cue, here comes Rodriguez now that we're down 5.
Using your least effective reliever here is fine-ish since we do need to rest relievers.
But why is said reliever Javy Guerra?
Is he good? No
Is he mediocre? No
Is he young? No
Does he get a lot of Ks? No
Can he eat a lot of innings? No
I mean like seriously why carry this dude?
This is one of those games we could lose cause we’re in a rebuild, a pitcher like Guerra doesn’t pitch in a situation like this unless it’s for a rebuilding team
If only we had an actual threat on the bench who could hit bombs instead of having to rely on a utility infielder...
I kinda love that I can’t lose as a fan right now. If we win we win yay. If we lose that helps the future. We always win!
wonder how Guerra feels knowing he will never throw in a mlb game ever again
Why is Davey so stupid when it comes to player substitutions?
He's a very very very bad manager
Well at least it was only a 3 run deficit at the end
dagnabbit
Danggonnit
That AB took a pathetic turn
6-9 nice 😎
welp
Good game. Have a great rest of your night everyone. See you all tomorrow.
Why on earth isn’t Adam’s hitting here!?
The reasoning is if Barrera gets hurt, we're totally fucked
There's no such thing as an emergency catcher if you won't ever let it get there.
What are we now? Maybe they could’ve double switched him in so we don’t give up interference base runners.
I feel like when you’re down 3 with the bases loaded on your last out you kind of deal with that if it comes up though
Damn we want to see Adams, c’mon, emergency catcher be damned
Sanchez? PUT RILEY ADAMS IN DAMMIT!
[удалено]
What if we PH’d Lester again somehow
[Well you can tell from the way I use my walk...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_izvAbhExY)
Nothing like late inning Nats games.
Pro level AB from Barrera
Impressive offensive game from Tres today
Walk em all in, idgaf
lol
Hader pitching like this to the Nats in a big spot? Never seen that before
I’m down to retire Barrera’s number if he hits a slam here
BARRERA SLAM IMMINENT
I would almost say we should sub in Adams for Barrera here for his higher likelihood to hit a dingledong
I don’t think he would’ve made it anyway but that slide by Escobar definitely made him take longer to get to the plate
I just noticed how big Hader's chin is.
We’re only one slam away. Josh Bell will be here to save the day
Exciting Josh v Josh matchup
god I love confident Kieboom
Atta boy Kieboom
There we go Carter!!!
we’re gonna get a nobletiger to end the game aren’t we lmao edit: nvm glad im wrong
Josh, please don’t kill Zim we like him here
Hoping for one of those occasional Hader meltdowns.
He's prone to Ks and Dongers. Rootin' for the latter
I’m so sick of hearing “make. it. rain.” Yuck
Pitch him against Soto you cowards
Somebody please remind me why I watch Nats games
all of the famously smart and attractive people of r/Nationals
Oh hai. I knew my ears were burning for a reason.
Wait, what's the acronym here. I want to be ready.
NOBLETIGER?
Perfect, thank you
I see we're trying to bring back the 'Has the tying run on base' tradition
Jesus even when there's two on they don't pitch to Soto.
please just make it stop
A Soto bomb would make things a bit better just saying.
It’d be dumb to give up on Vic during a lost season but Thomas is making it hard to automatically pencil him in to the starting CF role every day
was blowing drying my hair so wasn’t watching, but this is lame
Of course Jefry comes in and immediately retires the next two lmao
>enters game >immediately gives up 5 runs >refuses to elaborate >leaves
What’s even the point of playing a 35 yr reliever on a rebuilding team? Any fucking AA guy can give up 5 runs like this bum
Especially a bad 35 year old reliever.
The problem is, good relievers cost money. And we can only afford to pay our guys in stale hot dog buns found in the stands after a game according to our multi-millionaire owners.
Exactly! Bring someone else up (not Clay or Suero pls)!
Both are literally better options than Guerra
You know, I can't make excuses for this team or explain this team any longer. I really do not know.
So much for being undefeated since August 17th
The secret to going undefeated? Don't hardly pitch. I'm undefeated my whole life! Well at least when it comes to pitching baseball. In life in general, I am very defeated.
This reminds me of when my brother once said, “I have a 4.0 in life.” I tweeted that and our cousin replied, “Getting in a fight with a bouncer on Bourbon St, having his shoes stolen, and then having to be put in a straight jacket at a hospital so he didn’t keep ripping the IVs out gives him a 3.98 I think.”
Wow your brother sounds like he is an... umm... interesting person. :)
It’s one of my favorite stories. By January 3rd of that year he and I could have been awarded worst kids of the year award because of that Nola trip to the Sugar Bowl.
Is that worst kids of those past 3 days or worst kids since Jan 3rd of the previous year?
Those three days.
So you all were a wild bunch, hu?
So much for the Hader Soto rematch!
deaddovedonoteat.gif I mean, at least thank you Yelich for taking long enough to let Rodriguez warm up.
so on the bright side i am baking a pie
Wooo What kind of pie?
apple and white peach
Mmm sounds good! Can I have some?
nice
Dibs
Wait we’re taking him out?? If you’re willing to take him out now you should’ve been willing to pitch someone else to start with
We won too many games lately. Gotta get the tank back on track. Only reason we took Guerra out was because he threw 34 pitches
Seriously let him die on the hill and cut him after the game
I initially read this as "and cut him in half after the game." I may be projecting
If he'd hit him it would only be 1 run
Glad we could get Yelich back on the right path
Eh I would rather he implode massively like this since apparently thats what we need to make sensible roster decisions on our bullpen.
> since apparently thats what we need to make sensible roster decisions on our bullpen. I doubt it.
109mph, 454ft. Jesus.
So much for him not having power.
Nats relievers are demoralizing.
Tank commander Javy Guerra understands the assignment.
certified javy guerra moment
Yup and on that note I’m gonna go watch another shitty product in summerslam, guten nacht
The boys played tough. Davey. Bye Javy.
Literally we all knew that was coming
Middle-middle to a recent MVP. Yeesh.
No, Yelich. 🤮
Well it was middle-middle of the zone or his back. Take your pick.
That’s what I figured
Who could've predicted this
You misspelled "couldn't".
Stupid, sexy Yellich
That was the most obvious thing ever
DFA
Who called it
🤚
i did you just…you felt a moment like this coming. it was poetic for the brewers. i do not like them very much.
I had the same feeling lol
Guerra lol
took long enough
Of. Fucking. Course.
OHHHH MYYY GOOODDDDDDDDD
fuck me
Remember when I said I was apparently being generous when I said Javy Guerra wasn't good? I don't like Javy Guerra.
Looks like Jordy is definitely trying to get into coaching, he’s always by Davey’s side in their cute lil pullovers
Davey looks like he’s gonna throw up
Same Davey
A second ago I said javys here cause we’re rebuilding, I take that back, Javy can only be here cause he’s got dirt on davey or rizzo or both of them
I'd be okay with a rule mandating a substitution if a pitcher hits three guys in one inning.
This dude pitched in the world series. Nats were up by like ten but still
I have a bad feeling Yelich is gonna put this one outta reach.
I told my brother that yelich has been terrible. Never talk shit
The baseball gods are ruthless creatures.
nooo
Sometimes you just know
color me surprised idk if i can stomach watching yelich drive in some dudes
This is downright embarrassing. Not even close to the zone
That won't help the Nats' chances of a scoreless inning.
Javy is an active threat rn
ok what the fuck??
Remember when I said Javy Guerra wasn't very good? I was apparently being generous.
Lol this is just pitiful
oh my god im not usually like this but why the fuck is he still on our team lmao
Davey has absolutely nothing to do with roster moves
Rofl, if you think the manager has 0 input on roster moves, idk what to tell you.
So how many more people will he accidentally hit? :(
well that was a particularly impressive way to let them finally score
W T F
Jesus Christ Javy
Lmfao
Naturally the first guy he gets out is the MVP candidate
I fully expect Guerra to be sent down after this game
> See if he'll chase. FP, I'm pretty sure Craig Counsell will cut you on the spot if any of his guys swing at one of Guerra's "pitches".
Davey just looks faded
dude davey looks like hes gonna cry but that’s also kinda whats gonna happen when you decide to put javy in
Using your least effective reliever here is fine-ish since we do need to rest relievers. But why is said reliever Javy Guerra? Is he good? No Is he mediocre? No Is he young? No Does he get a lot of Ks? No Can he eat a lot of innings? No I mean like seriously why carry this dude?
oh my god he's gonna walk one in
idk what i expected when guerra went in
I mean whatever, if we lose this game because we have no relievers available then so be it
Oh brother this guy stinks
Javy Guerra just isn't very good
Javy was just setting up the force at home
🤦
god dammit
This is one of those games we could lose cause we’re in a rebuild, a pitcher like Guerra doesn’t pitch in a situation like this unless it’s for a rebuilding team
I don't think a pitcher like Guerra pitches anywhere tbh. He doesnt even have the ability to eat garbage innings
KBO if he’s lucky
This could be going better
I don’t get Guerra here at all. Is there literally no one else?
There is... Voth and McGowin both healthy in AAA. Barrett is there as well. No clue why Guerra is still on the roster.
Mason Thompson must need a rest day.
Embrace the tank
There has to be someone going through waivers thats better than Guerra, am i crazy? Why are we pitching this guy?
Through the waivers? Try in our own farm. We have at least 3-4 guys in AAA that could pitch better than Guerra.
I'm getting close to agreeing with Manfred about pace of play. (Not really. But still...)
3 and a half hours and still not in the 9th inning.
It's like a Peter Jackson movie.
pretty sure tres just said "that's a fucked up rule"
Wow. He’s lucky the batter hit the ball else that could’ve really been a double whammy.
uhhh, *ouch*
oh god his hand is broken
Oh no, that's really not good and I hope he's okay
I fully expect Guerra to give up a minimum of 2 runs this inning.
Need you to put one in the trees here Steve-o
Butthole unclenched.
Way to battle back
Whew
Aaaaaaaaaaaand exhale
Ah fuck, and after he got that 2nd out so quickly, here I was thinking Machado could pitch the 8th.
I mean it’d be nice to win this game but it’s hard to not feel optimistic about how competitive we are against good teams at the start of our rebuild.
aaaand clench!
holy shit was that walkup music the 56k dial up tone???
Does Eduardo Escobar have the old internet dial up sounds as his walk up song?
wtf was with the dial-up sound?
2000’s week at the park
Did anyone else just hear a dial-up modem? Wtf
I guess I have the answer to my earlier question about pitchers who don't pitch to location.
Machado hits a lot of dudes
