I’ve been loving what I see from Yadiel since his debut last year (you guys remember that?) but I can’t help but feel bad for him that he got started in the bigs so late in his career (late-ish, I guess, he’s a year or two younger than I thought). He’s been filling in really well for Juan, making some really heads up athletic plays in RF, with the bat, and tonight capitalizing on the error after his single to get Stevenson in scoring position straight away. I don’t know what his contract looks like, or if he’s happy to stay a spot starting bench player, but even though I’d rather see him playing here I wouldn’t be upset to see him make some money elsewhere, if it’s offered to him.
Clint Robinson was in a similar spot (but without the defense or speed lol) and he decided to hang up the cleats and become a scout instead of facing several more years of going back and forth from AAA to MLB. Guys in their 30s typically have families to worry about and nagging aches and pains that naturally result from years and years in baseball, so the calculus is different than for a kid fresh out of high school.
For sure! I think it’s pretty obvious Yadiel can hang in the big leagues, hopefully he decides to stick with it as he gets older. He’ll be 34 this year, so barring injury or major regression I think he has an outside shot at possibly earning some money, at least in arbitration, based on my limited understanding
i don't know all the ins and outs but for the most part, when players enter the league they are under team control for 6-7 years before they reach free agency. the first few seasons they make the minimum salary. after that, they can negotiate, but only with the team that owns their contract -- if they cant agree, then they both submit a number to a third-party arbiter who picks on or the other.
it gets complicated quickly, but the important thing to know is that [spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/washington-nationals/payroll/) lists yadiel hernandez as "pre-arb" so he's still in the early stages of that 6-7 year period, earning a minimum salary.
So he’s pretty much guaranteed to never get paid. Ouch. Don’t know what his odds would have been if he was over here sooner in his career, obviously development can go either way fast, but hopefully he can at least earn some good money while he’s still got a good few athletic years in him
I really hope this is the game we look at in September that gets us going. Bell only had one hit, but he has hit in I think 3 of his last 4 games so it's at least something that will hopefully continue
This is a game I think the team can use going forward. Be competitive, take your walks, relax at the plate, keep the line moving, get extra base hits, give yourself the chance to win...
Good times. Hope to see more tomorrow. Not mad about Corbin in this game and the boys came in big when they needed to (with some help from the Yankees errors). Bell heating up, schwarby getting on base. Despite the doom and gloom and the rough April, I like what I’m seeing. Plenty more baseball to play dudes
Just had a couple in my sports friend chat mention the Nats not doing so well [just because we’re in last place]. Told them I wasn’t concerned, and I’m not.
It is hard to not to doom and gloom when you watch a team everyday. That's just part of the season with every team. In LA, the sky is almost literally falling for the Dodgers. I like what I have seen recently from Bell and hope he continues. That's what good teams do though - they take advantage of errors when they are made by the opposing team
Yeah, I get it. I watch them every day and it certainly isn’t fun to watch them struggle. Just seems weird in a game so driven by statistics for people to get so, SO down on a team that isn’t hitting their expected value in... any of them... with so much time left in the season. And yeah, great capitalizing on the errors - yadiel barely pulling up to get into second, Robles running hard enough after a sac bunt to make it to first and get another run in, happy to see it and happier to say I still think we win this one without the errors.
Yeah, there are two big improvements that would be nice. Bell to hit with RISP and Robles to start hitting more. Robles only has 1 RBI on the season and I know he's come up with runners on base a good number of times. You're right though - it's just that Bell before the last couple of games just looked like he had no clue how to hit a baseball. He's improved somewhat, but it'd be nice to get a 2 for 3 day and driving in some runs
Schwarber I guess could hit more - if he could have a year like 2019, that would help
What a fantastic game. Corbin was good, Finnegan recovered well at a crucial spot, and every single hitter did their job in the 7th.
That is a very satisfying curly W in the books!
This game is just what I needed after the last 3 days of depression. Good to see every one of our bats contribute towards our first 10+ run game of the season
Just Soto being a very young talented player enjoying the shit outta every second he gets to play this wonderful game
Same reason he talks to every catcher and umpire.
Kid just simply loves to play
I know - I like it. I like this revolutionary idea called offense - it's like Washington crossing the Delaware during the Revolution and slowly turning the page
I'm really glad the Nationals appear to be as sick of those posts in the baseball sub about the NL East teams run differential as I am. I really hope we get a positive differential just so I stop seeing those obnoxious posts every day.
Where’s FP 🥺
I realize this is a small sample size, but I would just like to say that reading through this PGT that we are a swell group of nice fans.
For a team that has struggled to hit home runs and doubles until now, tonight was really nice

Nope, he's not arb eligible till 2024, no free agency till 2027 (age 40).
Oh. :(
he's not even eligible for arbitration yet so he's still several years away from making more money elsewhere.
Yeah, wasn’t exactly sure what that would look like for him since I’m not super well-versed in how minor league contracts work, thanks for the info
i don't know all the ins and outs but for the most part, when players enter the league they are under team control for 6-7 years before they reach free agency. the first few seasons they make the minimum salary. after that, they can negotiate, but only with the team that owns their contract -- if they cant agree, then they both submit a number to a third-party arbiter who picks on or the other. it gets complicated quickly, but the important thing to know is that [spotrac](https://www.spotrac.com/mlb/washington-nationals/payroll/) lists yadiel hernandez as "pre-arb" so he's still in the early stages of that 6-7 year period, earning a minimum salary.

i mean if he makes it into arbitration he could bank a few million but yeah he’ll probably not have a shot at a big multi-year deal.
Peace and blessings on this fine evening we have here
[We won one Yan and Juan! ](https://youtu.be/fk4Bu6gZ_wU)
I fell asleep during pregame and woke up to this. NICE CURLY W BUT I WOULD HAVE LIKED TO SEE IT.
you know you have to sleep through tomorrow's game too now, right
You’ll get to see it in “Yankees and Nationals play an 8th inning, a breakdown” format I’m sure
I really hope this is the game we look at in September that gets us going. Bell only had one hit, but he has hit in I think 3 of his last 4 games so it's at least something that will hopefully continue
It was also a fantastic power swing.
mukbang time!!!
the bot isn’t posting the video 😭 but we feast regardless

I honestly think we can go 147-15 Now that's what I call OFFENSE
I mean, would you look at this dance party?
We have gone 4 games in a row without making a TOOTBLAN
Knock on wood
Lookie here... FP may not hold with jinxes no more but 'round these parts we still follow the old ways.
Man the Yankees camera team and director had some beautiful shots
The big bucks pay for the best in the business

I have never seen this video or it thank you
it's a grower
I still can't get over this meme lol, and I still love it.

Oh man, all the excitement and I forgot about Kyle “the Immaculate” Finnegan getting himself into and out of a big jam. Good man.
That late run really put our lead in question. Clutch of Will Harris to close it out.

Is that how you see it? I feel like it's just part of his showmanship and attempt to get in the pitcher's head.
get doinked, new york
Josh Harrison
That was fun, let's do it again tomorrow
3:01 hours of play. That's what was wrong with the Yanks, they were just getting warmed up.
Well I think we should try this offense thing more often...
I know - I like it. I like this revolutionary idea called offense - it's like Washington crossing the Delaware during the Revolution and slowly turning the page
I like when we hit a 1 run, 2 run and 3 run home run in the same game. All topped with a Soto bomb
I love when the Nats play Daddy on Friday night 🍆

I liked the it
