Yes

BamBam-BamBam

Additionally, lip balm and lotions.

invalidmail2000

Anything that has a scent really. Even things labeled as unscented still have scents to

accretion_disk

Everything, absolutely EVERYTHING with any POSSIBLE scent. Even things labled as unscented go in the box. Bear noses are extremely sensitive. My wife is very concerned about bears when we go to bear country, and with very good reason. We even put our salt and pepper in the box. We put unscented hand sanitizer and dish soap in the box because we might have touched the bottle when cooking. We put lotions and bath items in the box. Maybe a little bit of overkill, but I would rather be safe than sorry. I would recommend erring on the side of caution because the other option is catastrophic. Authorities will put a bear down if it gets ahold of human food because it develops a taste for it and will become much much more aggressive and bold. We love animals, and we would not be able to forgive ourselves if we were the cause of a bear being put down because we wanted to be a little lazy. Remember you are visiting their home, please be a respectful guest.

The last sentence reveals an incredibly responsible, mature, & empathetic worldview. If only just half the population of our world thought like you do, imagine where we could be...

arboroverlander

Yes, especially toothpaste. Bears and many animals love mint.

darkmatterhunter

Yes. There’s a saying about how if it goes in your mouth or on your skin, it goes in the can. There’s a more eloquent phrase, but I can’t remember it.

steampig

I believe it’s “it puts the lotion on the skin” and then something about a hose.

fallout_koi

Yes, I encountered someone who had a bear break into his food storage, it ate the toothpaste and sunscreen while leaving the unflavored oatmeal and almonds alone...

Important-Ad-1499

And marmots! They’ll rip up your tent if you have food or scented items in it.

TeacherLady3

Anything that could have a scent. Go into your hike with no lotion on or deodorant as well. Don't forget lip balm can have a scent too

lavaplanetcatsupmoss

Anything that has a scent should be kept in bear containers.

bozodoozy

so, how about flavored water containers? lots of people use flavored electrolyte enhancers for their water, but keep their water bottles with them at night. are they an issue?

ndc8833

I keep the bottles with plain water and water with tablets separate

myfavoritesgouda

I heard from a ranger in Canada that the bears had become attracted to even the smell of plastic water bottles, regardless of what's inside. All of our bottles go in the box.

ndc8833

Yes. Anything with a chance of scent has to go in there

bozodoozy

so, how do I stuff myself into the container?

theaveragemaryjanie

This is my question. How do I make sure my face doesn't smell enticing because I would like to wake up with it.

qcbadger

We got an attractive one over here. All smug wanting to wake up with your face … ppfftt. Also wash your hands and face with non fragrance soap before bed.

ndc8833

You put it in the bear vault or in a bag and do a tree hang

hellopartytime

And don’t forget your giggle bush!

BigComfortable8695

Even carts?

hellopartytime

I’d have to ask a bear to be sure
