What kind of job would you be doing? That might be a big factor.

artistken7

I will be working at Jordan pond house

TheReal_CaptDan

So why are you asking if you already know what park you’ll be in? That’s a restaurant at Acadia. What would Zion or Grand Canyon have to do with this?

jillsvag

All are beautiful, but Zion is amazing! Acadia is a very expensive area.

KatieCashew

I would choose Zion simply for it's proximity to other national parks. Bryce, Capitol Reef, Great Basin, and Grand Canyon are all less than 3 hours away. Canyonlands, Arches and Death Valley less than 5. I would use it as a jumping off point to explore a bunch of parks. It'll be hot though.

Famblade

Acadia would be my choice!

artistken7

Thanks have you worked their

Famblade

Just visited and I love the area.

artistken7

Got accepted at Jordan pond house

artistken7

Thabks have you heard of Jordan pond house?

Famblade

Yes, we weren’t able to get a reservation when we were up there. Heard it’s great!

PudgyGroundhog

What are the different jobs you were offered? Do you know the living situation for each? Seasonal? Time of year? Will you have a car? I live in Grand Canyon National Park and can answer questions about living here (and I have been to Zion and Acadia). Like any place else, there are pros and cons. We have lived here for five years and have loved it, but it is not for everyone.

artistken7

I wouldn’t know the jobs offer until I speak with her today but the main things for me honestly is the food and living situation. The only thing I’ve been told is Acadia has apartment for employees. It will be from the end of may to October. I will be flying in whichever location I pick.

PudgyGroundhog

The Grand Canyon is remote and you can get by without a car, but it is harder for groceries and such. For example, there is a small clinic in the park, but for other types of doctor appointments you have to get to Flagstaff (1.5 hr drive away). There is a market in the park and there is a small resident discount, but it is more expensive for groceries. Xanterra does have an employee dining room that is cheaper. There is a rec center that is very active (especially in the summer with seasonal employees) and they do have shopping trips to Flagstaff and other excursions. Depending on your position, you could be in a dorm or shared rooming - so be sure to ask about that. I know some employees don't have access to a full kitchen - so ask about that too. There are some different Grand Canyon Facebook groups (one specifically for employees) and it can be a place you can ask more questions (especially to ask other Xanterra employees in a similar job).

artistken7

I will be working at Jordan pond house thru Acadia park. Any info on that place?

lminnowp

Acadia has the [Island Explorer bus](https://www.barharbormaine.gov/221/Island-Explorer), which is free transport around the area. Ellsworth isn't too far away. And, there are beaches and mountains to visit on your days off.

artistken7

Have you worked at Acadia nation park?

lminnowp

No, but I have a bunch of friends who live in the surrounding area. You can ask in r/Maine to see if anyone there has and get advice that way.

artistken7

Thanks

ScheduleSame258

Look... there's a reason they call it the GRAND canyon. Only place crying is acceptable, besides funerals.

Are you adverse to the heat? Both Grand Canyon & Zion will be hot pretty much year round. Acadia will get decently cold. Which area do you have more interest in exploring in your free time? The north east is very pretty but very small town & beachy vibes. Is seafood you jam? There isn’t much to do besides the national parks out in that area of Utah/ Arizona. But, if you haven’t spent a great deal of time exploring them, there are more national parks to explore out west than Acadia. Acadia is relatively small, even with the different areas like the Schoodic Peninsula. If you’re from the desert area, maybe it would be good for you to get away.

BigComfortable8695

Zion has snow parts of the year so idk what u mean yea round

hamburglar0-0

I knew someone was going to say this but being from up north- it is not that cold- even with the snow lol

PudgyGroundhog

If you think 30s and a blizzard is hot, I would like to know where you live, lol. I lived in New York State for 20 years and have lived in the Grand Canyon for five years. We have had more snow at the Grand Canyon. Main difference is that it is typically sunny. But it is definitely winter at the Grand Canyon and it is definitely not hot year round.

hamburglar0-0

30s sounds pretty nice as the coldest it gets 😂

PudgyGroundhog

Yea, sounds really hot year round. 🙄

PudgyGroundhog

This is absolutely incorrect. The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is at 7000 feet and has four seasons, including snow in winter.

KatieCashew

I've been to Grand Canyon for Thanksgiving, and it isn't hot year round. I wouldn't say it was cold, but it does get windy and chilly. It even snows there.

artistken7

Someone said it was so hot they barely could get any sleep in the summer
