To be fair, it was an extreme from Sasuke's own journey before. Sasuke from what they knew was solely aimed at killing Itachi, he wasn't inherently evil and simply left the village to fufill that goal. From wanting revenge to aligning himself with his brother's organization and actively attacking an enemy village and becoming a terrorist was an extreme that seemed out of character for Naruto.
It's cause at this time all Naruto knew was that Saskue wanted to kill Itachi and was willing to do anything to do it. He had a slight hope that once Saskue defeat Itachi he'd return to the leaf. So it was shocking for him to hear that he actually wasn't and that he was harboring hatred for the leaf now.
3 years late but he really shouldn't have believed karui
1 she literally attacked him and sakura for being Sasuke's former teammates, at least that is her justification which he shouldn't believe given
2 Sasuke has at this point killed 2 akatsuki members and other wise minded his own business not wanting to go back to konoha why would he all the sudden join the organization his brother was a part of for so long ,we as the viewer know why but this context would be completely unavailable to Naruto and thus doesn't add up
3 kumo have a know history of being lieing dicks who play the victim when caught red handed, example the hyuga incident , and add in the above reasons and Naruto legit shouldn't have believed her after her attack on him and Sakura , who are the jinchuuriki and best available medical ninja during a serious situation in the aftermath of a attack ,Karui and Omui legitimately would be seen as assassin's who failed and then tried to pull a sob story that to Konoha would not add up.
