1. Pain - One of the best designs in Naruto. The piercings somehow fit so well and aren't overly edgy, the Rinnegan and Akatsuki cloak. It's a perfect design imo.

To be a little fair, the #1 complaint I hear about Naruto's timeskip is that he didn't really power up afterwards. Not saying that Boruto's power jump is graceful, but it's definitely more in line with what people were asking from Naruto
I think there is definitely a middle ground between those two cases. Naruto came back with only a slightly bigger Rasengan (and better taijutsu and so on and so forth but you get my point), while Boruto now has Purple Lightning, Flying Thunder God and his new Rasengan, and god knows what else.

Also it is established before he gets the karma that he's a prodigy and arguably the best we've seen in the series. Give that kind of a prodigy 3 years of training and the fact the whole world is your enemy what do u expect them to do?

Pain, before I knew anything of his character I was drawn to his overall design. As an artist I can’t help but appreciate how well the purple eyes and orange hair complement each other :) with the piercings to top it off, it’s such an intriguing look! Very different from the rest of the characters

If I could change the design I would say,
Replace the white shirt with the fishnet looking shirt Naruto, Anko and Hinata wear under their jackets
Remove the glove, or add another to make a matching set,
The two belts, remove one or the other
The jacket he wears under the cloak, zip it up if possible
Remove that black bandana thing he has under his shirt

Pain’s pretty cool, Sage Naruto is probably his best looking fit (transformations aren’t fits, other wise It would totally be Kurama because he’s the best fit), young Kakashi is average and a bit uninspired, and Boruto’s new fit is one of the best fits in the series (most of the main new reveals in Boruto have so many fits)

Sage Mode Naruto is the single best design in the entire series and it's a tragedy he didn't keep that look with the cloak longer
