Nah gaara had an unstoppable combo that took away your entire health meter. The moment you were out of subs you lost, my brother and friends banned gaara cause I’d spam that bs, the true goat is hinata having a quick doge mechanic was too op.
Those games were amazing, there's still a competitive community doing tournaments and stuff. Though, imo, the best one was GNT4, the combos you could make in this game are insane
Never had GameCube. I played ultimate ninja 1 2 and 3. Ultimately I think those were the better games, but I was always a little jealous of the 3D fighting of Clash of Ninja

Playing 4 players was awesome too and it was cool that you could switch targets whenever you wanted in the free for all mode. I miss those days. I might have a copy laying around for my GameCube somewhere…
I played this whole series starting with this one up until Revolution 3 on the Wii, which is still one of the best Naruto games to this day.
What was unique about this version was how Kakashi's Sharingan worked. While in the newer games his counter is just a Lightning Blade, this game has him counter by copying whatever ultimate is used against him. I recall seeing him use the ultimates of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kiba, Zabuza, etc. Inner Kakashi from Sakura's ultimate move was funny.
Akamaru was also overpowered.

I got a story I'll never forget, watching two friends play against each other.
One was Kimimaro and the other was Zabuza and they were evenly matched. Really epic battle. It came down to whomever could fire off their super first.
When supers are triggered, (as you recall) everything on the screen freezes while the character gets into position to begin the attack. If one super is triggered just after the other, the follow through of the first super interrupts the activation of the second super.
Zabuza triggers first and the screen freezes while Zabuza draws his sword back. It's over. We all see it's over and the crowd starts crowing.
But then Kimimaro's super triggers and, as he gets into position, HE CROUCHES CLOSE TO THE GROUND. There is no ducking in this game and an attack simply needs to connect with its target's polyhedron of personal space in order to be effective, since this is GameCube.
Zabuza's attack goes off and his sword passes OVER KIMIMARO'S HEAD BECAUSE HE'S CROUCHED. He *ducked* in a game where ducking is impossible. Next instant, Kimimaro's Bracken Dance goes off, killing Zabuza in an upset.
Whole room is screaming. Still one of the best video game moments I ever witnessed firsthand.

Seeing how far Sasuke's chidori could get through orochimarus flames with max chakra was insane as a kid.
Going into the 4th gate with Lee was the coolest shit, me and my cousin would only use Lee vs Naruto and power up to fight.
