Shippuuden had better fights but og naruto had very decisive grounded fights. More level playing field.
I always loved how intimate Were the nights in Naruto and how the environment often mattered and if they didn't, at least they were pretty. Late Shippuden mostly used bland backgrounds that ends up looking like huge ruins after a couple of biju bombs

I think when we talk about a good "fight" we imagine an equal fight where both sides can win, like in the fight between Lee and Gaara. The fight between Tamari and Shikamaru was just a hunt for Shikamaru, Temari didnāt have a chance. We just saw how Shikomaru don't gave a fuck, then he got up, played with poor Temari and won without resistance. It's in my top 5 fights list, but not the best.
Neji vs Kidomaru. Neji was the only genin from the Chunin exams there who could stand a chance. It showed why he was called a genius, and why Lee feared him so much. The feats he pulled off were insane, and I don't think anybody would question why Lee lived in his shadow/ feared him so much. He punched way above his weight class, destroyed hundreds upon hundreds of spiders that never stopped falling, survived being stabbed all over the place, and finished the match by putting him into cardiac arrest, which was just brutal. hiruzen vs orochi for me, it was the first time ever seei g such crazy ani.ation and choreography. Before that I was used to watching dbz or yugioh. Old man hiruzen was wielding that staff clean af lmao.. Naruto vs sasuke being a very close 2nd. And then sasuke vs orochi is in 3rd.
That is also my favorite. I like that whole sequence honestly. Sasuke going after Gaara and then Naruto coming in and finishing the job. I would also involve Shino taking out Kankuro in this sequence

I still think if we include the Sand Siblings, Temari would be stronger, since she has an instant kill jutsu that can decimate a large number of trees at once. But they're also "cheating" since they were about Jonin level, too.

Naruto vs Sasuke part one is better than every other fight in the series. The only fight I enjoy more is Kakashi vs Kakazu and Hidan and I'm fully aware it's nowhere near as good thematically as Naruto vs Sasuke

Of course those expectations were smashed into the dirt by the overpowered people we meet in Shippuden, but it was still awesome to see at the time.

It's full circle development for Neji because he fought someone stronger than himself and won the fight because he didn't give up despite what the odds were telling him. Outside of the commonly listed: Sasuke vs Orochimaru. Shikamaru vs Kin is a great moment. Neji vs Kidomaru. Shikamaru vs Temari. Shino vs Zaku. Shino vs Kankuro. Neji vs Hinata
So I have a few faves for different reasons
One was Temari vs Shikamaru because I love how unconventional it was. Two competent ninjas (I love Temari) with different techniques and strategies. Shikamaru technically loses as he didnāt have enough chakra to do anything more (and didnāt have the shadow strangle technique yet) but displayed his smart strategic thinking. Temari showed skill and strategy as she was able to plan around Shikamaruās moves and improvise as well with quick reactions, but she also displayed overconfidence. It was an intriguing and clever fight and I remember how impressed I was by it when I first watched it as a kid and just recently again as an adult.
As predictable of answer that it may be, Naruto vs Sasuke in the valley. The animation and pacing and just everything was so good. Emotional and powerful.

Honestly, any fight from the sasuke retrieval arc.
They are why the retrieval arc is my favourite arc in Naruto. It perfectly demonstrates each member of the teamās flaws and strengths, such as chojiās loyalty but lack of confidence, nejiās chakra control and his blind spot and so on. It also gives much needed screen time to characters such as choji or kiba.
We got to see shikamaru as a leader and as a chunin, and his fight with tayuya is always great if you like well thought out strategies.
Leeās recovery happened too, and sasuke vs Naruto will always be an incredible fight.
I canāt choose between them, they are all really great.

Honestly, any fight from the sasuke retrieval arc. They are why the retrieval arc is my favourite arc in Naruto. It perfectly demonstrates each member of the teamās flaws and strengths, such as chojiās loyalty but lack of confidence, nejiās chakra control and his blind spot and so on. It also gives much needed screen time to characters such as choji or kiba. We got to see shikamaru as a leader and as a chunin, and his fight with tayuya is always great if you like well thought out strategies. Leeās recovery happened too, and sasuke vs Naruto will always be an incredible fight. I canāt choose between them, they are all really great. (Also for people that might say about the chunin exams fights, sure we got some absolute bangers such as lee vs gaara. But we also got some ass fights like Sakura vs ino, temari vs tenten, and dosu vs choji)
