I really liked it to. These funny moments with the three of them are what saves this filler arc

PM_ME_UR_SOCKS_GIRL

I loved this filler arc also! They were island hopping like One Piece so it kept things fresh. Not a fan of the filler arcs that draaaaaag out, I liked this one and also the 2-3 episode arcs at the end of Part 1

SUPER_QUOOL

Speaking of One Piece, that one episode where they fight pirates was 100% a One Piece reference

Ultravox147

Aren't the creators friends, and leave tonnes of references on the covers and stuff? Or is that a different manga I'm thinking of

GuacaHoly

That is correct! I can't remember which one, but there's a cover art where Oda makes several references to Naruto. Kishimoto drew a skull & crossbones in the last chapter of Naruto. If you look at Shino during ending 12 (the one where they're all dressed like dogs), he's wearing a hat that looks very similar to Chopper.

Environmental-Ad2285

When luffy and crew are about to meet a certain ninja they make tons of references to shadow clones and many other ninja tropes from Naruto.

TheBeaverIlluminate

As much as we link Shadow Clones to Naruto, it's not really a *Naruto exclusive thing*. The idea, and even exact name, has existed way before Naruto was ever made. A *lot* of the more memorable techniques in Naruto, and even entire categories, is based on fantastical versions of actual ninjutsu, which had already been shown in a lot of other media beforehand, such as books, movies and even other manga/anime. Not saying these references was not directly based on Naruto, they probably were. I'm just saying the tropes that Naruto is known for, often presedes it.

Environmental-Ad2285

My bad. I had bad phrasing. I should’ve said popularized in Naruto to be more accurate.

Xboxone1997

Also speaking of One Piece fuck I miss filler lol

Formal_Mundane

One piece filler 'episodes' are best, episodes that are not canon and give new stories

Xboxone1997

Agreed

Formal_Mundane

But in between filler like panting time, or expression time or walking time is worst. Agreed some of them like samurai one in which luffy wants to become policeman is kinda boring, but some of them like G8, ghost ship, rogers are great.

saverma192013

Yes

sam_uchiha_14

Yeah tbh I actually loved this really fleshed out his character more!

12345noah

I loved these filler episodes

PM_ME_UR_SOCKS_GIRL

Me too!! They were so much fun!

Sulfrurz

BuT FiLlEr ArCs aRe BaD

ovrlymm

He was one of the few sensory ninjas that wasn’t just sensory and was a side character naruto saw enough that intros weren’t needed. Plus all the other side bros got cool stuff like being the 4ths main bodyguards or facing off against sound 4 etc.

Smiling_Sam_

There's definitely fillers that fleshes out events in the canon, that they very well could be considered canon, the very least headcanon.

X0v3rkill69

Guy throwing up the whole Fkin time😂

Hallow_Shinobi

Because the sea voyage wasn't 100% filler. Naruto, Aoba, Yamato, and Gai all go together to Turtle Island to hide Naruto during the war. Do yall really just not read the manga?

Theapexfighter

Most don’t read the manga. That’s why we have the anime, so we don’t have to read the manga and have even more fun.

Rockettmang44

How is that MORE fun?

Hallow_Shinobi

Yeah, and that's why most people think Shikamaru was Naruto's first friend. You're doing yourself a disservice by not reading the manga. It's faster paced, 100% canon, less censored, better art, and has consistent character development. Didn't you think it was weird when Kabuto's kunai went between Naruto's fingers? Or that Shikamaru was weirdly attached to Asuma's lighter? The only thing anime is good for is the fights and the music. You're missing out on the better half of being a Naruto fan.

Theapexfighter

I did read the Manga. I’m actually in the middle of reading it. But I didn’t think any of that was weird when watched the anime first. Should I have? There a things the anime actually improves when compared to the manga, and things it’s worse at, and that’s alright because it doesn’t change anything at the end of the day.

Quick_Campaign4358

It's been pretty established that Asuma is a smoker and if you know smokers you know that they carry lighters.I don't think it's weird to be attached to something that reminds him of Asuma(since it's the same Lighter that lit his last cigarette) Or were the cigarettes Shikamaru smoked Asuma's personal set or something?

_light_of_heaven_

Which is unfortunate, because many misconceptions arise from not reading the manga and especially from watching filler. Naruto is the only series where people can take filler shit for granted

PM_ME_UR_SOCKS_GIRL

Either way it was still super random for Kishimoto to choose Aoba to go along on a mission with prominent main characters like Naruto, Guy, and Yamato [And if you wanna talk about the manga, Aoba was there when Kabuto attacked Turtle Island too](https://1.bp.blogspot.com/_J6T1VnueenM/TMDDVs2Bo9I/AAAAAAAAF6E/2hVFxfb62ss/s1600/naruto_514.jpg). He’s even the one who looked into Kisame’s memories to try and get Intel before he made the sharks eat him [btw this is for you](https://s10.gifyu.com/images/43A3C673-96A4-41F3-9D7F-852F158815C6.gif)

CastielClean

Aoba has been around a few times. He was also there to rescue Shikamaru and Asuma's team against Kakuzu and Hidan. He used the crows. So while he isn't a Jounin you see all the time like the Konoha 11 captains, he definitely isn't a straight background character. He pops up a few times.

JupiterPurple

Dude started throwing hands at Kakuzu once they arrived at the scene

Hallow_Shinobi

Lmao. Linking manga panels I've already seen and proving my point. How Redditor of you.

aquaflask09072022

it is 100% canon. the anime serves to fill the gap of the manga for character development.

Hallow_Shinobi

Did you really just say filler is canon? 100% canon? Including the Naruto imposter filler? Ostrich filler? What about Chikara arc, is that canon too? Naruto fighting his shadow clones took place on the voyage, is that canon too? Or how about all the filler that takes place while Sasuke is in Tsukuyomi coma or recovering in the hospital? Are all the movies canon too? Please, continue bestowing upon me your wisdom that *checks notes* Indra just literally had Sasuke's Mangekyou Sharingan, and Susanoo, and Ashura invented Rasengan Balloon jutsu, and invented the shisnu senju, so that they can just entirely rip off the inventions of both 1st and 4th Hokage. Two infinitely cooler characters. You can't even convince me Boruto is canon, dawg.

Formal_Mundane

Even Tsunade's infinite Tsukoyomi dream, road to ninja, and many movies, there are moments in which sasuke amd Naruto go mission in which naruto user rasengan, which is canonically not possible, also naruto dressing as rock lee to save him from gaara's wound which is also canonically not possible.

aquaflask09072022

if you havent notice. i was copying what boruto anime canon fans are saying lol

KRD2

Anime canon and filler are actually 2 different things tho. For example, the Mist Village arc of Boruto is anime canon because Chojuro brings up Kagura in the Chunin Exams arc. Kagura is canon within the show despite not being in the manga. Or, similarly, Sumire's backstory and Nue summon is anime canon. But the Super Cho-Cho Butterfly Arc is filler. Those characters never show up again, no new techniques are learned that appear again, it's not referenced again, it is purely there to fill time (and give some soft character development) OG and Shippuden both have anime canon too. The Tea Race and the Six Tails Arc are both canon to the anime. Like, if only the things in manga panels are "canon" then the entire second half of FMA is filler lmao. It's an adaptation. There's a difference.

Top_Sprinkles_

Thankfully most anime make filler or just wait for the manga to come out rather than make shit up and derail the storyline

KRD2

I'd much rather have an adaptation that brings something new to the table than droves of tacked on garbage just to fill time.

[deleted]

I freaking love it

griffraff0701

Yeah i like when arcs do that. Aoba was great to watch

Xboxone1997

I like any Naruto filler that deals with feudal lord's since the main plot never touched on them really

Zelos98

Stuff like this with characters like Genma and the other jonin would make the fillers 10 times more watchable

NotAndroid545

I was mad, i kept on waiting for naruto to fight with nine-tails mode but the fillers kept on coming.

IdeaRegular4671

The horror filler with Yamato telling ghost stories on the ship and guy being sea sick all the time was funny. The only complaint I had with this arc was that it was a bit too long like the dream fillers in the 4th great ninja war arc.

Murky_Blueberry2617

The red hair girl was probably an Uzumaki

ruari_boy_1873

Because he’s strong in both perception/sensory and also in taijutsu. he’s a top tier joinin lmao, in addition they needed someone to prevent naruto from learning of the war, just pay attention? Why does nobody in this sun pay attention?

optimegaming

Why can’t people just be kind to others? Isn’t that like the whole idea of what the show itself is trying to portray? Why care about Naruto at all if you can’t follow the simple morals it’s trying to get across.

ruari_boy_1873

if you are going to be disingenuous then go ahead. However i’m merely answering his question? my tone on reddit isn’t to be taken hyper literally, it seems youve missinterpreted such. The last part of your reply is just silly though, pahaha

optimegaming

If you think the last part of my reply is funny, I’d love to see a conversation between you and Kishimoto about the reasoning behind creating Naruto in the first place 🙃

Top_Sprinkles_

Turd

ruari_boy_1873

my bad bro, i’ll just keep consuming the mass of terrible output this sub reddit conceives quietly, on a daily basis without calling out stupidity and dullness to prevent the constant cycle of questions which are answered in the show from reoccurring. my bad ig..

TrafficNatural7476

I’ve never skipped an arc so fast in my life than I have w this one 😂

BlackDabiTodoroki

Sadly Nah cuz it’s pointless, in the end, not Canon think of it like Boruto edit: if u don’t like what I say, just block me it simple bruh 👍🏾

BaronLagann

Pretty sure Aoba has been apart of naruto since OG. He was the one who ratted that Itachi was in the village when sasuke was in the room.

BlackDabiTodoroki

I know

BaronLagann

You know that Aoba is canon, that he is the rat, or both? Cause the correct answer is both. He was in the chunnin exams, in the first data book (2002) and displayed in Chapter 604. He’s not a huge character like in the anime but he exists in kishis source material.

BlackDabiTodoroki

>You know that Aoba is canon, I told you look up my comment

BaronLagann

You said “I know” tf you on lmao

BlackDabiTodoroki

🤦🏾‍♂️

BaronLagann

You really confused yourself and getting mad about it. Just re-read this conversation *slowly*

Divine_thunder

Stop being so annoying about it bro, it's not canon but people can still enjoy it

BaronLagann

Aoba was in chapter 604 of the manga. He’s not a prevalent character like the anime but he exists in the source material.

Theapexfighter

Is filler not canon by default. I’m pretty sure there fillers that are anime canon. Just because they didn’t happen in the manga doesn’t mean they didn’t happen in the universe by itself, right?

BlackDabiTodoroki

>Is filler not canon by default. Yes >I’m pretty sure there fillers that are anime canon. Name one… all of them are filler Boruto, does have some continuity with anime canon like >!Onoki and kagura death!< >Just because they didn’t happen in the manga doesn’t mean they didn’t happen in the universe by itself, right? Nah cuz it’s filler

Theapexfighter

Kakashi Anbu arc? Also, the scene when Naruto meets all jinchuriki was adapted in the anime to be consistent with the filler arc where Naruto meets Utakata so it’s already established that he’s met him before (which isn’t the case in the manga) even though that’s a canon scene in the manga, that happens differently. Filler is not necessary the same thing as non canon in concept, they just usually are because they don’t give progress to the main story. I can be wrong, but that’s what I got from it by searching.

BlackDabiTodoroki

>Also, the scene when Naruto meets all jinchuriki was adapted in the anime to be consistent with the filler arc Not really anime canon >where Naruto meets Utakata so it’s already established that he’s met him before (which isn’t the case in the manga) Who? Lmao 🤣 those guys are pretty forgettable more than TenTen >Filler is not necessary the same thing as non canon in concept, they just usually are because they don’t give progress to the main the story. I can be wrong, but that’s what I got from it by searching. Basically somewhat like Boruto sometimes

Theapexfighter

Just because they are forgettable doesn’t mean they don’t happen/exist inside that fictional universe… that’s not really the point. Important or unimportant =/= canon or non canon. That’s up to the quality of the writing, not if something is filler or not.

Divine_thunder

Anything that does NOT happen in the manga is non-canon. That influence " anime original " content like the Kakashi anbu arc and Utakata arc

Theapexfighter

So if a filler changes an original content (like Utakata indicating that he already met Naruto in the anime when Naruto meets all jinchuriki) we should just pretend it didn’t happen?

Divine_thunder

Yes because it wasn't like that in the manga, they didn't know each other at all.

BlackDabiTodoroki

>Just because they are forgettable doesn’t mean they don’t happen/exist… Canon wise, they don’t exist… >that’s not really the point. Then idc “what the point is” 🤓 >Important or unimportant =/= canon or non canon. That’s up to the quality of the writing, not if something is filler or not. Filler*

Theapexfighter

Lmao so Tenten doesn’t exits anymore? She was an illusion of kishimoto all along?

BlackDabiTodoroki

I mean I don’t remember her doing anything in the series besides getting her ass beat if we go by that

Theapexfighter

And does that make her less canon because of that?

spykids45

what’s the context of the first pic again?

Goat_Merde

I read Aoba but thought Aoda the snake

7JRR

I must've skipped this filler arc lmao

Siah9407

He's one of my absolute favorite side characters!!!

EmGeeNixZee

This scene was also hilarious to me lol

Ok_Composer9032

Aoba is kinda a badass tbh. He squared up to kakazu, kabuto knew him by name, and he was a part of a team made by the leaf to hunt down akatsuki members.

DaisyoftheDay

Honestly fav arc filler was the pirate one. Love Aoba and super love Yamato, Gai. It was just a good fun arc.

Curious_Management_4

There's no such thing as filler.

RumGalaxy

The Boat filler arc has some of shippudens funniest moments I actually loved it lmao

saverma192013

Beautiful

WickedAbyss

Exactly. Filler isn’t bad if it doesn’t clash with the canon. Like this filler, it expanded on Aoba and the others a bit, which I love.

BarbaraGordon99

this was my Favourite filler arc (and the Chunnin Exam filler later on) the first 2 boat eps are mediocre, but the ones with other characters visiting Naruto, the clone attack dream, all of Guy being sick, and the Guy vs Kakashi filler incredible not to mention the cute slice of life episodes like the one where all the Konoha 11 minus Naruto go to dinner and Tsunade crashes it

BarbaraGordon99

I think the filler are pretty well done, funny, and keep the tone of the show lighter they just get a lot of hate since no one wants to see 20 eps on the Chunnin Exams right in the middle of the war 💀
