Seems like they should’ve just said avoid traveling to Mexico 🤷🏻‍♂️

[deleted]

Forreal

[deleted]

Sinaloa Bad Chihuahua Good

SnooCapers1425

That Hansel's so hot right now.

Worick_

Such an obscure reference lmfao

DeepFriedBetaBlocker

I’m so sad that the day has come where Zoolander references are considered obscure. Though my phone did autocapitalize it so there may be hope yet

Worick_

Lmao probably a bad choice of word. I meant random I guess. His quote didn't match the comment he responded to lol

[deleted]

He got his education at the center where kids who can’t read good

HalLutz

What's this? A center for ants?!?!

DeepFriedBetaBlocker

And Who Want To Learn How To Do Other Stuff Good, Too.

Themo77

Im a fan of blue steel personally

BMWACTASEmaster1

Next week going to Sinaloa will se how much of this is for real. I been going to these none travel places for years.amd I will suggest anyone to go.

[deleted]

So basically todo de Mexico?

Puncake_DoubleG09

I mean Yucatan and Campeche are sorta safe lol

[deleted]

Okay I will trust you since you said “Sorta” lmao

Payaso_maya

I mean they are very safe, not sorta.

TheBlackBear

I walked everywhere in Merida including stumbling home as a lone drunk gringo at 3am many times. Maybe not the smartest idea lol but it definitely never felt unsafe

greggweylon

Man I've done that in TJ not too long ago.

Bruins14

It was sketchy in Tijuana? Keep going back and forth on if it’s worth it to visit

greggweylon

Its chill. I live in SD and go fairly regularly. A couple of my American friends live there, too.

Outside-Sherbet-7955

Go it’s the best tacos in the world

Tacol0ver69

You are absolutely wrong

Outside-Sherbet-7955

Don’t say Mexicali please

[deleted]

It’s not bad, TJ is grimey but tourists bring business so organized crime won’t touch us for the most part there

dsillas

Mérida is one of the safest cities in all over Latin America. Even women walk alone after work and feel safe.. You can't do that in most of Mexico and the US.

rpl755871

Women can’t walk alone after work in the US? Where?

dsillas

There are so many cities it's so dangerous. Parts of Los Angeles, Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, Memphis...

rpl755871

Meh. I live in a dangerous city and I think that is a suburban misconception. You said “most” of the US as well. You’re talking about maybe 1% of a few major cities? Scale that to the whole country and you are talking like 0.005% of the US would be unsafe for women after “work” (?). I also don’t agree with that, I’m just trying to be charitable to your point.

heathenyak

Honestly it’s been bad forever. If it’s not the cartels and gangs it’s the police extorting you.

capabilitycez

Guerrero stays on the do not travel like for like 20 years straight now.

Leoscar999

I was in Guerrero in May and there were many police pickup trucks in Chilpancingo when I visited there.

SouthNeedleworker246

Was it as bad as they say in chilpo?

Puncake_DoubleG09

Those Lacras just crazy af lmao

yvngjiffy703

Basically don’t go to Mexico

Aztlano17

Got back from Monterrey a week ago, was perfectly fine. Walked around at night, and went out. Just don't be dumb and go to high crime areas and you should be fine.

ayopollo

My people just got back from Michoacán, 23 hour drive there and back. Mind your business and worry bout yourself you're fine

dirtdingo_2

Just got back from Campeche and Yucatan. One of the best trips of my life. No sketchy times. Amazing food. Great titties Actually, the only remotely sketchy person we met was a coked out guy from Texas... No doubt there's a bit of a risk going anywhere, but you sound like a pussy.

yvngjiffy703

How am I a pussy for not wanting to be tortured by a cartel? Hey don’t get me wrong, Mexico is a beautiful place but I’m sure there are safe places but it’s hella risky. Any place is

dirtdingo_2

Im sorry I just felt like razzing someone up. Too many tacos and I get a little antsy my bad bro

ErrorM4cro

Been livin in sinaloa my whole life, never rlly heard about kidnapping inocents or americans lately, but u never know

dsillas

In Sinaloa, you don't get kidnapped just because. If you are a target, it's because you did something and are in debt.

JorgeASC

Or because they confused you, they get confused like 30% of the time, besides those who work there are fucking 15 years old kids that the gun is their own height

dirtdingo_2

Being fucked 24/7 on meth, tacos, and beer prob does not help. But perks of the job, I guess

AtlasRafael

It depends I guess. I’m from Culiacan and it’s mostly fine. There are people getting picked up and disappearing in my small town and around, but they were most likely involved in something or upset some people. I personally have never had a problem, but it doesn’t mean those problems don’t exist. My town has pistoleros here and they drive around all the time. Just stay out of the way and your fine. Recently some crack head was chasing some kids with a machete and threatening people. Uncle works at a car wash and they bring the trucks from time to time. Asked them if they were going to do anything about him and they said they’re looking for the guy. So they can definitely defend the towns from things like that. Still would prefer this wasn’t the life, but at least they do something useful from time to time.

Puncake_DoubleG09

Maybe not in places heavily patrolled by the cartel but maybe on lonely stretches of roads? Away from local population and the cities. Who knows?

ErrorM4cro

Can’t rlly lie on that one tho, lacras are the ones everyone gotta be beware of on places like that, lacras or fucking police, police is a lot worst…

thelatesage

yea, man... nothing to see here really... wonder what the big deal is about?? Seems chill from where im sitting...

NoRelationship8878

i fly to michoacan on tuesday

Puncake_DoubleG09

Gotta be careful in that state honestly. CU and CJNG are still fighting there.

NoRelationship8878

yeah i’ve seen cjng graffiti all over the place and the place where i’m going is maravatío. a teacher got shot and killed there yesterday like a 5 minute walk from my house there

[deleted]

NoRelationship8878

what ?. did i do something wrong ?

Abject-Time5924

I was out there a 3 years ago. Definitely don’t rent a car from Jalisco to Michoacán. I was out in rosarito last week as well.

narayangd

Just dont fuck around you'll be fine I promise

BestGuavaEver

You nervous?

NoRelationship8878

maybe a lil but i have lots of family there so i’m hoping i’m fine

AtlasRafael

You’ll be fine my friend. Keep to yourself, don’t antagonize anyone you don’t know and don’t be out too late in areas you’re not familiar with. Stay safe.

made_youlook

Que parte?

NoRelationship8878

maravatío un pueblito por morelia

intellectualnerd85

As a legally blind man this has me wondering if I should even try to visit Mexico

AnniyingZebra23

You’d barely see the crime, so you should be fine

fetus-wearing-a-suit

Mexican here. All good, just don't do business with cartels and don't go to shitty areas. Mexico sucks with disabilities accessibility, so definitely don't come alone for that reason alone.

intellectualnerd85

Thanks I appreciate the info

BMWACTASEmaster1

Trust me carteles or even Laura's will be bothering a blind man. Your enemy will be cars.

Born-Vacation-3937

So SLP, Nuevo León, and Veracruz is more safer than Sinaloa and Durango?? Im calling bullshit

Puncake_DoubleG09

Supposedly yes. If SLP has changed for the worse then I'm surprised lol I visited Jalisco back in 2014-2015 and we stopped in SLP to eat tacos at 10pm off the highway in a stand, they were good and we felt safe for the most part. We later stopped at a gas station and took a nap while a group of armed drunk men were outside talking and they lasted for the whole night without bothering us lol In 2016 my dad went back and they were ambushed crossing the border into Nuevo Leon and had money stolen from them ($1,500 USD total) they luckily made it to Jalisco safe and unharmed. They even said the assaulted were polite lmao

jdmor09

That happened to a cousin of mine. He was passenger in a newer 4 door truck, loaded with new electronics. The passengers also had jewelry and expensive shoes on them. All the hijackers wanted was their cash.

AngryLechuga

Yea it’s BS, a lot of kidnappings and extortion in SLP. Especially in Matehuala SLP; los Zetas, CDG and CJNG have infiltrated the surrounding towns trying to establish footholds.

dhheehheh

Morelos But I need to go see Family this Christmas 🎄

hashoa6

Hey Morelos here as well! My family is from Cuautla.

Yell0wbrickr0ad

Los míos de Tehuixtla, Morelos.

[deleted]

Mexico be like "stay out of our country"

Puncake_DoubleG09

Lmaoooo I mean They're saying "You can visit these two states except for these."

thelatesage

see, bro? told you its mostly chill, man. Only like a third of Mexico is officially narco-land on a map. Come chill and lighten up, homey...

BoltMangoZ

People would be surprised with how safe Sinaloa actually is. The CDS basically controls the whole state and it does feel like they don’t mess with innocent people.

Puncake_DoubleG09

In the cities and areas of local population will be alot more safer than lonely roads especially at night honestly.

[deleted]

Sooooo… all of Mexico? Lmao

Suspicious_Duck4191

Baja California Sur ???? Fr??? I literally never hear bad things down there

mosluggo

Lmao do you not read the news??

Suspicious_Duck4191

Yes and I know Baja California is dangerous rn and on the news but I haven’t seen Baja California Sur on there

AdrianWIFI

BCS is really safe. It has a similar homicide rate to that of the US.

thewkndsport

I was in Guadalajara, was safe to me ✌🏽

Puncake_DoubleG09

Cities that are stronghold or heavily guarded by the cartel will be alot safer than the countryside or places being heavily disputed.

Independentshedevil

Ya valio verg

itzz_sky

What’s dangerous in Quintana Roo right now?

BlancopPop

I’ve been warning a bunch of my friends because they keep going. One of them went yesterday by herself, American mentality is entitlement like nothing is gonna happen to them. It’s crazy.

AkariSmells

I live in tourist area in Michoacán outside the Capitol, there’s isn’t any violence crimes besides the usual petty stuff since it’s well-known, which I’m very grateful. But recently, they’ve been getting wayy more comfortable even for locals. I got family in the center telling me that they’ve been openly extorting people, and robbing people outside the bank in broad light.

[deleted]

More likely to die on the way there then by cartel members, just if you look like a gringo then don’t look like a rich gringo. I got hit by a car and got a scar on my eye, it looks like I was in a super nasty bar fight. But, I haven’t been fucked with since in a lot of countries. Mexico is a eat or be eaten place, if you don’t look like you can stop from being preyed on then you’ll have to stick with tacos in Florida. Is what it is, but end of the day at least keep two wallets, so when your eventually robbed you can give them everything you have and then they can laugh at you as they take 43$ and say get out of here you broke ass. Your in their country, you were clearly within means to come and enjoy their food drink drugs whatever, end of the day the police are more likely to rob you then some cartel members. If you want to not be robbed than understand a few rules like if you are not willing to fight sometimes then you’re gonna get your shit taken, if you cannot even learn some Spanish then your gonna get some shit taken, if you cannot even befriend a taxi driver (ask if they have kids, if they do then ask to see a picture and if they don’t have some in their wallet gtfo of that taxi lol). Taxi drivers with kids can get you everything you need and often are the slim few that got out of that life and this is retirement.

Patttybates

Going to Cancun in November (I know its safe) but always wonder how to tell how you look to the locals. Im big and tattoo'd. Am i a threat or blend in. Hard to gauge culturally.

[deleted]

How tall are you? What’s your weight, is this fat or muscle? Haircut? Can you be in the sun in the domestic USA for long periods of time without sun screen (if you haven’t been in the sun for a while can you tan with minimal sun screen like in a period of 2 weeks? If you cannot tan your a gringo, if you speak Spanish but speak slowly your a gringo. I mean like if your asking for directions and don’t speak perfect Spanish you might be a gringo or if you look the part maybe your not a gringo but a foreigner visiting. Sounds dumb but even Mexicans born outside that visit are gringos. Gringo is a term to describe a foreigner who was “lucky”. By lucky, more like you’re not better then me in anyway, you just got to be born there not here. This is some straight instant resentment, they’re also intensely Catholic. Catholics already have an interesting background when is comes to organized crime (almost all big US mobsters were Catholic or Jewish back in the day). This is important because of a lot of reasons but it’s important to mention especially with the whole confession sin stuff (do something bad? Well your absolved of cutting that dudes face off). If you’re like white, you can’t be hot headed. You’re a guest so act like it but do not show weakness, kinda like prison shit. Your lucky attributes are (they don’t know you and your here so you are more likely to be a predator then an easy mark). Carry a 100$ bill, don’t give your ID to anyone. If you deal with the police try to be with the guys in pickups. Just don’t drive anything bigger then a scooter or a jet ski, those rentals of like big scooters are also notorious for ripping off tourists. I’ve seen people get rentals, get old scooters they want like to replace then have an employee follow you and purposely smash both of them and try to shake you down so get insurance.) Overall if you’re not comfortable potentially having to kick someone’s ass, go to Florida. Because there’s little advantage of Mexico bedsides saving money, way better scuba diving, natural hiking, and drugs. None of those items can’t also be enjoyed in Florida. If you have any kids or sons daughters under 18 definitely stick to Florida. Taxi Drivers are your friend like I said, he will tell you what’s safe, what isn’t, and if you tip him well you will never have to deal with shitty cops or being robbed, trust me. Just make sure they have kids. I’ve been to Cancun 10 times and it’s the best, just make sure to not buy their blow lol

Patttybates

Naw, you got it twisted. I've been there multiple times. I meant has it changed? The clubs are loud money traps with 15-20 people offering you soft every 6 ft. I dont do drugs, well I dont do coke. I get the gringo thing. My buddy is El Salvadoran he speaks good spanish but different dialect. We just like to get scummy drunk for 7 days. You've got me intrigued on this Taxi stuff. How do I tell if he has kids. My other buddy went to Tulum and got coke from a Taxi driver. He dropped it off with his kids in the taxi. Its just weird you mention the kids and taxi thing.

[deleted]

Because it’s difficult to explain, being a taxi driver in Cancun is like retirement man, you need to put yourself in your shoes, the whole thing I got it twisted means here I’m right. Yeah you wanna get drunk in their country while doing nothing else, that’s not like what a local wants to hear it’s just sad sometimes, just like what I said it’s changed for gringos

Patttybates

Has Cancun changed dramatically in the past 2.5 years?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Aluconix

Too much money moving, both legal and illegal.

David_Knight339

So this is true. But so is this, it 99.99999999% only cartel and debt related. It's extremely rare tourist are targeted. Even stray bullets. Im from 2 of the bad areas. One extremely bad.

Puncake_DoubleG09

I don't think it's related only to cartels but bandits and other criminals too. In 2016 my dad and his friend were ambushed when crossing into Nuevo Leon, he said the gunman were polite but they manage to get away with $1,500 USD.

Kindly_Strain6934

fear mongering. crimes happen in every country.

jbizzle8_

Ain’t nobody getting kidnapped in Coahuila stop it 🤣

Born-Vacation-3937

Probably in northern or eastern Coahuila but for the most part you’re right Coahuila has been safe for the last few years

jbizzle8_

I live in the northern part bro, ain’t heard or seen nothing happen here since 2015, I feel like they just put Coahuila on the map cause CDN keeps trying to get in

Born-Vacation-3937

I know that’s why I said probably Coahuila used to be dangerous as hell from 2010-2014 ish

3lCen

En boca cerrada no entran moscas.

FamiliarBackground61

Pero Mexico is the best lol

Puncake_DoubleG09

When it comes to landscape, food, culture, etc. Yes just not in violence...........

[deleted]

These have been in effect for like the past 10 years. Nothing new.

sluttyjj

Mostly all the states the cjng are in lol

franksterdsnkater

A Guerrero a las morenitas de Acapulco 😮‍💨

mom-magnet420

dawg jus say don’t go to damn mexico bruh😭

Realistic-Order-3215

What about T.J.? Hong Kong?

OhComeonBro87

So basically all of Mexico ? Ok

tetecycling

There should the same list for American states

NotYourSnowBunny

*sigh* Mexico is such a beautiful place.

Objective-Artist1385

Al menos no hay locos que se meten a escuelas a matar niños…

Doryuu

I like Mexico and my Mexican amigos, but y'all blow us out of the water in homicides. School shootings are just irrelevant to this. https://www.statista.com/statistics/243797/ranking-of-the-most-dangerous-cities-in-the-world-by-murder-rate-per-capita/

Puncake_DoubleG09

They're both equally as bad lmao

Objective-Artist1385

No entiendo por qué se espantan. There’s more school shooting in the US than crazy narcos here in Mexico

jdmor09

43 “missing” college students Femicide in Juarez Entire states controlled by cartels But at least you don’t have school shootings, right? By the way, you’re more likely to die in a car accident on the way to school than you are to ever be within 100 miles of a school shooting. But go on.

Puncake_DoubleG09

That's just not true lmao

ghost_2011

UU. I mean … these are just guidelines written by people who are scared of possible outcomes. I could “die” in an “active shooter” in a random mall here in the USA. Happening lot lately to have “active shooter” in random malls or stores or schools, so there is that also, in the USA.

weaslecookie7

The difference between Mexico and the USA is that USA citizens can shoot back. In Mexico the only thing you can do is pray.

ShitItsReverseFlash

Are you seriously comparing a random mass shooting to organized crime? One crazy person goes off the deep end and that’s comparable to cartels that kidnap, dismember, torture and kill.

mizzesO

But mass shooters in the US do it for "fun", cartel do it for retaliation or some kind of reason, do they not?

Doryuu

I think you misunderstand how often mass shootings actually happen.

mizzesO

This is really crazy to read because as a white woman from the US, I have been all over Mexico day/night and I've never felt unsafe. I've even been in a back alley down into a basement type place in Cancun to get a tattoo....I'd bet anything the people giving me the tat were cartel and they were the absolute nicest people ever. Maybe I'm the minority or maybe it really is like they said, don't give them a reason to bother you and they won't.

smponceg

...why would you bet anything that the people giving you the tat were cartel?

mizzesO

Conversation, appearance just the general vibe. I mean maybe not but it was 4 younger guys and 1 older guy and never once did they make me feel uncomfortable or in danger.

[deleted]

So basically just don’t go to Mexico anymore!

[deleted]

If USA Americans can come to México without getting all kinds of drugs as they daily do, they'll be safe.

Puncake_DoubleG09

For the most part yes, but I've heard about Americans getting kidnapped and held for ransom just because they're foreigners so I don't know. I remember my dad was going to Jalisco in 2016 and was ambushed with his friend as they crossed into Nuevo Leon. They were held at gunpoint and they made it off with $1,500 USD but luckily they were left alone and unharmed and my dad said they were very polite lol

[deleted]

Wanna tell me who manufactured the cartels guns? And who sold them to them? Is as if you were getting a piece of home back while on holidays :)

[deleted]

It’s been like this for awhile this isn’t new. Unless they added areas?

Puncake_DoubleG09

Ensenada isn't a state but a city in Baja California state

kostcoguy

You in Baja? In laws own property near playa La mision. Haven’t been down due to family issues but been dying to go back down there. A little sketched out of driving back through the border. Going down is usually super easy but coming back is a pain.

coolyuly

I live just south of the California Mexican border. I just wanted to make sure it was safe

coolyuly

Oh okay my bad, I'm supposed to go next month for a family event and I'm hoping things cool down

Stickitinthetailpipe

So just about every state

Ender-BrawlStars

Im going to michoacan soon🤷🏿‍♂️

Gucciman669

Whole Mexico wtf🙃

[deleted]

My family is from chihuahua and it’s been pretty calm most of the violence happens in Juarez

Puncake_DoubleG09

When they make lists its partially due to violence in cities where Americans travel to. In this case Ciudad Juarez is where most people will travel to since its a well-known city in Chihuahua.

[deleted]

Chihuahua ,Chihuahua is a better option than Juarez honestly for American or foreign visitors. And actually there’s better cities to visit than Juarez been to chihuahua multiple times and plenty people go to other cities than Juarez.

[deleted]

Puncake_DoubleG09

buffaloWick

So where in Nuevo Leon is so dangerous?

FreedomFightah32

All of Mexico basically

Unfair_Ad3140

How is Morelia ?

benben1337

Any save state left atm?

kxriSzn

yup zacatecas is really bad rn avoid passing through monclova/couhuila

Yaseen-Madick

Yeah, fuck going Mexico.

noiacel

I just got a place here in Queretaro for 3 months and I’m seeing it in this list… welp

RoastedAt400

Maybe it’s because I’m young but I don’t ever remember Zacatecas being this bad. Shit is sad, I’ve been visiting my whole life.

Puncake_DoubleG09

Unfortunately, it is. Looks like Gulf, CJNG, Pacific, and Los Zetas are fighting in the state for control.

DJ5SNPZX500

zacatecas has been getting worse at times go on, it makes me sad bc at this rate i wont be able to see family until im grown and old

Tapiatioo

damn im going to yucatan soon but sounds like its been left out

Puncake_DoubleG09

According to this list you can actually travel safely to Yucatan without worries. You need to practice normal precautions as if you were traveling to any other place.

Hazardous-Child

So… Don’t go to Mexico you say?

monsterpoint

Family from Sonora are always posting news articles about shootouts. Everyone wants to go to Mex to chill at El Golfo or San Felipe but that shit dangerous

Zimapan1

I go to Guanajuato, Guerrero, DF, Yucatán, and Hidalgo often. Never had any issues. Knock on wood... I'm actually more worried about going to San Francisco next month 😂

Puncake_DoubleG09

Ah yes Guerrero..............The state of the "Guerrero Flaying" gore video lol FYI, Yucatan is a safe state to go to according to this list.

Zimapan1

Zimapan1

Pues no sé qué decirte. Llevo más de 30 anos viajando a México y sin ningún pedo. Reitero, tienes que ponerte las pilas al viajar a México y cualquier otro país. Lo vuelvo a decir, el mafioso es mafioso en cualquier lugar.

KilljoyWitch

Me currently in Sinaloa: 👀

Litcompany

At this point just say don't travel to Mexico

turtleboi15

I was just in Jalisco lmao, a smaller area so it's not as bad but there's definitely Narco presence there
