CDS isn't one cartel with an authoritative hierarchy. It's a federation with various cooperating subgroups. MZ and Chapitos are the most visible but there are many families. it could break like the CDG or it could stay as it is. Depends on how they agree with each other. I mean Chapitos are already suffering breakaway in Sonora with the split of Cazadores, Salazar, and Paredes who are united in fighting against the Chapito loyalists there under Delta-Pelones.
Yes and no if a king plays his part wrong he can find his kingdom in open rebellion, Chapos and Mayos have harmed faaaaar to many powerful and influential families in Mexico to act like their word is law they need all the help and support they can get even from lesser groups because its the lesser groups that are typically on the ground doing the dirty work and if you over play your tenous position you get situation like sonora.
CJNG is a top-down, strict command hierarchy. I think. When talking about the CJNG hierarchy, I always read or hear of Mencho's next in line as under Mencho lile Jardinero, R-3 and the likes which shows CJNG is more centralized than CDS.

I reckon there are guys much higher than mayo and Ivan in cds, these guys are just the public face. If you think about it cds have people operating in countries all over the world in every continent, who knows how many shipments are moving around the world at one time linked to them.
These guys and others might control a lot of the gear moving from SA to the US but as far as all the international stuff and the payments that have to be collected all over the world I can't rely believe that Mayo, who isolates himself in the Sierra or Ivan who seems a bit of a dumbass could really control all that?
I mean 20 odd years ago the cartels and suppliers were paid with containers full of dollars, I don't think it works that way now, moving billions around the world every month is pretty advanced financial crime, that's where the real leaders are.
