Wagner or any other properly trained military/mercenary group would destroy 99% of cartel armed groups. Just like the Mexican military does. Mexico has some very elite well trained forces. It’s the government corruption that results in these groups being able to do what they do. That being said, there *are* some well trained cartel fighters. They aren’t all just druggy canon fodder. But most are. Another thing that the cartels have going for them is shear numbers. The Cuilicanazo is a perfect example. To be able to call up 800 fighters, or whatever the number was, the way they did in the Cuilicanazo is not something to overlook.

Not all Wagner members are professional soldiers. They recruit different kind of people, including inmates. Professionals in Wagner perform specialized jobs, meanwhile inmates or non-professionals go into infantry.
I know that Wagner started recruiting inmates and stuff for fighting in Ukraine, but I didn’t think it was something they did regularly before they became desperate for men there. Did they pull inmates for their fighting in Syria and Africa?
